Just beat chapter 7 in NG2. Wowsa, my favorite by far. I think the story is better this time around, because it's so horrendously bad you just laugh at it, rather than trying to figure out what the heck is going on.

I'm also liking that the levels are more linear. No wandering around that city in 1 aimlessly, only to have one encounter with the guys go bad and end up 1/2 dead.

The game was the first music/dance game (averaging an 88% (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/198264.asp?q=PaRappa%20The%20Rapper) on Gamerankings, although it has aged a bit. Back in 1997, it was one of my favorite games along with , SotN, Mega Man X4, etc. The timing is a bit different and takes time to get use to (such as in the first one, you hit slightly off the corresponding button, but then it also allows you to press multiple other buttons to do your own freestyle rap). The newer PaRappa games (like the 2nd one), the timing is more forgiving. Lammy Jammer is the greatest one though, although I feel the first has the best music overall. I still play it often since it's quite addicting.

So, went to see Speed Racer today because we had nothing better to do. Wow, I was really, really surprised. The movie is really well done, doesn't take itself seriously in the least, is just a fun, well written, well acted, well effect-ed movie. Blu-Ray purchase for sure. :)

The first one, uhh.. let's not get into details about. The glock is a glock, your neighborhood friendly firearm. The last two are for competitive speed shooting. (My dad is big into speed shooting, range shooting, etc.)

Prices? :x The glock was normal price. This particular one was a little shy of $700 a few years ago. The other two cost way too much. $2K + each.

I still wish there were many interesting music games being made this day, which aren't just sequels with all new music and recycled gameplay (last game that I found interesting in that way was Elite Beat Agents). I mean, games like PaRappa, Gitaroo Man, Amplitdue/Frequency, etc. were all great, and didn't require some expensive accessory.

To keep it GGT related. Time Crisis 4 isn't as fun to me as Time Crisis 1 was. ;)I still enjoyed Time Crisis 4 (It's Time Crisis and I still enjoy the Arcade action shooting, I just feel Namco REALLY dropped the ball on the game's local multi-player the way the handled split screen), but I'll admit I liked 2 and 3 much better. I MIGHT have preferred the first, but it has been several years since I played it (I really want to go back and play it), and I barely remembered what I played now.
Parappa did not age well. Long live Gitaroo Man!I love Gitaroo Man and still play it often right now (The PSP one, didn't keep the PS2 one). I personally feel the gameplay in the 2nd PaRappa is handled a bit better (where it ages much better), but the first one just has much better music. Although, it's tough to say which game I prefer, since both are my favorite Japanese music games for sure. I like Parappa because the music is so catchy and one of the only games I can replay a stage 20+ times in a row never getting tired of it. I like Gitaroo Man because the gameplay is more unique and love its quirkyness, but it's not one of those games I find myself replaying a song over and over again (more like just once per session).

I've got House of the Dead on the Wii but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. Fortunatly for me , I've already played and beaten both games several times on previous platforms (DC , Xbox) so its not an urgency for me.

I brought this up cause I remember playing the shit outta HotD2 on the DC back in the day. Unfortunatly I had to play it with the controller since both of the light guns for the DC refused to work with my tv. I persevered though and got really good at it with a controller and could beat the whole game by myself with the minimum continues. My friends thought I was nuts , you actually beat the game without a lightgun?:lol:

Yes house of the dead 3 was way easier than 2 , with or without a gun. I also hope they port HotD4 and the original to the Wii. I know sega mentioned that if returns does well they might consider releasing 4 , no word on the originaly though , sadly.

I just picked up spanish coach so that I might be able to learn at least some basic conversational spanish , so that when I get stuck with a customer that refuses to speak english , I might be able to actually help them out.

(Or the highest level it will go?) You have any tips on them damn Demon hounds? Fuckers killed me more then any bosses thus far. Did you ever encounter any slowdown in the frame rate/any mid loading?

3) Slowdown... yeah, there was one passage where it was real bad. Like, I was fighting a ton of enemies, so the slowdown lasted for like... 3 minutes or something like that. But other than that, it didn't pop up too often.

4) Mid-battle loading... happened a grand total of once. And it was like... a half-second pause. I didn't really care.

1: Alright, once I get the Scythe I'll make sure to upgrade that. Anything in particular I should also keep/be upgraded? I am working on the Dragon sword/Talon's so far.

2: I noticed the flying swallow seems to work the best on them, also heard Lunar works wonders but I suck with that.

3: I had a little bit of slowdown/frame drop one time so far, and it lasted about 20 seconds so that isn't too bad. Noice to know it isn't too often, as well as the mid loading during battle. One thing that is really funny is like if you go back through an area you just came from it seems to mid load. I loled at that. :)

4: What do you rate NGII out of 10, and do you think it's surpassed the original Ninja Gaiden (and all it's different versions? ;)) Will you be writing a review? Thanks for the tips man I appreciate it.

When it comes down to DMC4/NGII I gotta rule in NGII's favor. I give the story to DMC4, as well as the camera. Everything else I give to NGII, at least from what I played thus far as I'm more into NGII then I was DMC4....


That's the only other game that came to mind for best game so far this year... I mean, both of them were fuckin' incredible, and I'm still amazed we got two action games like this in the span of a few months.

so far to be honest I can't seem to find a game I go apeshit crazy like this year. it's been a great year, but nothing that slaps me in the face and say "whoa! what was that crazy shit!"... GTAIV is the closest, but even then that just feels like a game pushing the benchmark of what games can do but not really twisting the game industry.

then again, the last game that blew my mind was Hotel Dusk...

GTAIV is the closest, but even then that just feels like a game pushing the benchmark of what games can do but not really twisting the game industry.

Yes house of the dead 3 was way easier than 2 , with or without a gun. I also hope they port HotD4 and the original to the Wii. I know sega mentioned that if returns does well they might consider releasing 4 , no word on the originaly though , sadly.



I just picked up spanish coach so that I might be able to learn at least some basic conversational spanish , so that when I get stuck with a customer that refuses to speak english , I might be able to actually help them out.

I'm not really counting on it though , considering that I flunked out of spanish in school twice.:cry:HotD3 was a bit easier, only took me a few tries to beat it on Xbox. HotD2 took a while, but I've beaten it several times (on Dreamcast). I thought of buying HotD on Wii, but passed up because I just didn't feel like going through them again. If the first was included, I'd buy.

I've realized that I need to not play games for the story, ever. If the gameplay isn't the principle reason I play a game, I'm going to just get irritated and distracted with it. I think that's why I've lost interest in MGS mostly. Stealthy gameplay and I don't get along well, and I was trying to force myself to play them to find out the story. No good.

Games that channel the same forces at work in the best 2D platformers from the 8 and 16 bit eras are where its at for me. Games that are just fun to play on their own, regardless of whatever story is going on. I think that's the reason I've got little patience for most RPGs. Most of that genre's gameplay bores me to tears, regardless of how compelling or interesting the story might be.

But, yeah, GTA4 is going, as is the MGS Collection. Things were starting to get too full on the shelf.

Anyone know what the trade in value is on GTA4 at GS for the 360? Looks like I'm going to get screwed on Amazon too, so I might as well not have to pay to ship it out...

I agree with that, to an extent. For most games I need to like the story AND the gameplay for it to rank among my favorites. But story is definitely still secondary to gameplay.

But I enjoy something like Bioshock that has great gameplay and a good story that sucks me in much more than a WWII FPS games even if it has great gameplay. My attention span and interest in gaming isn't great these days, so it really usually takes something with great gameplay and a great story to suck me in and get me to finish the game.

As for getting rid of GTAIV, I'd suggest Goozex. It goes for 1000 points (equivalent of $50) and there are a ton of people who want it so you can trade it in no time and have 1000 points to spend on another new 1000 point game or a handful of older games.

On that note, I think I've finally decided not to bother picking up GTAIV. I didn't have much plans on doing so since I hated GTA3 and haven't played any games in the series since then. The hype had me thinking about it, but I've seen enough comments along the lines of people not liking it if they didn't like the earlier games to decide that it proably still won't be my cup of tea.

trade in was $35 for the PS3 version last week (~$39 after edge.) Same price you'd get for it on amazon/ebay, if not more. Then there's that get $10 extra with 2 current gen games deal going on this week.


agreed on not playing games for stories. GTA's story got incredibly over-hyped by the gaming press (who seem desperate to make it some crowning artistic achievement.) but no, Nico is a dude who goes around and kills people for money, that's all. :lol:

I love the gameplay in MGS, though the story is interesting enough because it's so insane. Of course, you can always skip the cut scenes and call on the codec to find out what to do next (unlike JRPGs, where you're usually plopped in the middle of nowhere after a cut scene.)

It's funny that you mention Bioshock, because that's one of the games that I thought of in this whole issue. I loved the environment and the story, but thought the gameplay was totally mismatched for that game. Another game I stopped playing because I didn't want to slug through the gameplay to find out what happened.

You're probably best staying away from GTA4. It's a technilogical marvel and the gameplay is cleaned up quite a bit, but the mechanics are still goofy and after the inital shock and awe wears off, it's not likely to hold you. For as much I've played Disgaea 3, I can say it's pretty enjoyable. I just wished they'd make the enviroment larger. When you zoom out, that's when everything looks nice and crisp, but once you execute actions/end turn it zooms right back in, something I've always been nit picky about :/

Other than that, gameplay is smooth, basically builds on Disgaea's Battle system and adds some tweaks, bells and whistles, etc.. Expect to spend 100+ hours on the game ;)
I can't wait for it to come stateside, since half the time I didn't know what was going on :-P

On another note, I just noticed FF IV DS' release date, and it comes out on my birthday :D

I'm never spending $500 to play one game.It probably will not happen. If there's any series Sony will pay to keep exclusive to their platform, it's Metal Gear (just look at how hard they are pushing it with constant blog entries over the game). And it's not just that, late ports just don't sell regardless. Although Bioshock is coming to PS3, I guarantee it will not sell too great because it was a late port. If it was released on the same day as the 360 version, sales would be more comparable. Even with VF5 adding online play and C version content, it didn't sell as well as the PS3 version, because it was a late port. Last gen (in the U.S.), RE4 sold better on GC (despite the GC having a much smaller userbase than PS2) because it came to GC first. MGS2 Substance didn't sell too well on Xbox due to being a year later than MGS2 on PS2. The game does use up a 50GB blu-ray disc too (Kojima even wanted more space).

Anyway, every game platform will have their own third party exclusives, regardless. You either have to own every platform to play all the games, or just go without owning every platform and accept the fact that another platform got an exclusive game. I know those without a 360 who would really want Ace Combat 6. I know those without a Wii who'd love to have No More Heroes. And I know those without a PS3 who badly want MGS4, that's just how it works. Occasional exclusives are good for healthy competition.

And btw, it's really only $400 to play MGS4. ;) You may not get the PS2 BC, but it plays MGS4 (and there are deals to get it even less. Anyway, your loss IMO.

- Bad Camera + Small Cooridors = FAIL
The camera is okay in large areas, but in those tight, turning cooridors, it's awful. At least there aren't any doors.

- Difficulty Curve
Butt easy to okay to Insanely Hard to okay to Challenging to Insanely Hard. The difficulty curve needs some work. If it weren't for the Auto-Healing Mechanic, it'd be harder that Normal on NGB. On Acolyte it should be Easier than NGB's Ninja Dog with Auto-Healing. I might not be able to beat it in time, or at all because of this.

- Glitches
The first door when you're inside on the very first level (Come on, that's a joke), enemies getting spawned outside of an enclosed area so you have to restart to get though (Dead serious).

Slowdown
- The framerate isn't smooth at all. It touches 60 fps a lot, but more and more, it's hitting 50 and 45. I just started Chapter 9, and I'm fearing the worst.

But the combat is fun, and despite some of the maniacal BS I've seen in this game (Level 3 boss, Return of the Ghost Fish, and Blocking ceases to work after like a second sometimes) it is still a fun game. Just not a $60 one. I'd have to give it an 8 right now.

Oh, and I've crossed the Streams on achievements. I have 32 right now with 320 points in it, so I should get past 500 if I beat it. And I've done every Test of Valor so far.

Finally got around to playing the game I sold to you. ;) It's an awesome game. I think I prefer Mario Kart Wii personally (I've been more of a Mario Kart fan over the years), but I liked GX much better than Double Dash.

Ability to replay races you fail in a grand prix? Check for F Zero.
Chance to be cheated out of (or cheat for) a win due to items and race placement? Mario Kart.
Sweet rides? Meh...they'll both get it (though F Zero is sick compared to cartoonish MK imo)
Replay your races? Again, double check.
Save your replays? F Zero, baby, F Zero.
Online? Mario Kart (though I haven't even scratched the surface of it - played 1 match).


Until I play s'more Mario Kart (even if its offine or the wondrous online), I'm sticking with F Zero GX is better...of course, this is just my opinion.

Rose is real up until she tells Raiden she's pregnant. After that point it's the AI talking, not Rose. Kojima used Rose as the voice of reality. She's the one trying to get Raiden to stop "playing the game" and think about the real world. That's why she annoys us as players. Raiden himself is supposed to represent us. Everything from the fact that he was training only in VR missions to him getting angry at Rose for trying to get him to stop playing.

in terms of resolution, from all the people I hear that have beaten it already they say it feels like it really does a good job in closing all the open ended doors alongside resolving every character's issues.

It's hilarious how you guys all make fun of Halo's story but put Metal Gear's contrived story twists on some pedestal. Both of them are at best children's cartoon show level quality.

SNATCHER did, and a lot of old adventure games do. Mostly text based and less interactive games.

Games like Chrono Trigger have endearing characters, but the story is pretty stupid. I enjoy FF7, but its story is nonsense. Fallout is interesting because of the freedom it gives you and the setting.

I'd say less than 10 games ever made have what would qualify as a "good, intelligently written" story.

Half Life has great characters but the premise is basically just aliens taking over. Nothing that halo or any other alien movie/game hasn't done.
