Features

The saga continues in Star Wars™: The Force Unleashed, casting players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and unveiling new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. Set in the era between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, players must assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi, and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

The power of the Force: The core powers of the Force can be upgraded throughout the game. Use Force push, grip, repulse, and lightning in powerful combinations. Force grip an enemy in mid-air, zap them with lightning, then throw them to the ground.
Familiar and new universe elements: Interact with familiar characters such as Darth Vader and new adversaries such as fugitive Jedi and Force-sensitive Felucians. Visit locations including Episode III's Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk, the floral Felucia, the junk planet Raxus Prime, and an Imperial TIE Fighter construction facility.
New technologies: The game debuts Pixelux's Digital Molecular Matter system that incorporates the physical properties of items in the environment, making wood break like wood, and glass to shatter like glass. The game also features Natural Motion Ltd.'s euphoria, a revolutionary behavioral simulation engine enabling characters to move, act, and even think like actual human beings.

Just got my Game Informer mag last night and it looks like we get a new Star Wars game for the 360 console. If you remember E3 last year, there was some "closed door" footage that showed some Jedi just laying the smack down on the Empire:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6FbhqCnOvs

Well, it looks like this November we'll get to play it; aptly name Force Unleashed, you play as the aprentice to Lord Vader himself as he trains you to overthrow the man who made him who he is. Set between Episodes III and IV, the main character (named Apprentice in the article but noted that this will not be the real name given) builds his force powers up as he hunts down the few rogue Jedi that are left in the galaxy.

From what the article says, they are using the same engine that Lucas Arts is using for the next gen Indiana Jones game. Since I can't remember the exact names I'll just describe them:

The first engine focuses on the enemy AI, allowing them to react realistically to their environment. One example given is that if a catwalk is collapsing, a trooper may grab for the ledge and attempt to hold on, if his strength is high enough, he may even pull himelf back up; if another trooper is falling, he may try to grab onto his buddy to save himself which could pull them both down. Another example said that a trooper was following the Jedi into a room intentionally designed with tons of crates. As the Jedi tossed crates at the trooper, he would duck and jump if he anticipated the objects coming towards him, but if he was too late he would pull his arms up to try blocking it. Also noted is that the trooper would get knocked off balance and would try to correct himself.

The other engine says that it will allow for real-time shifting of the enviroment. If you force-pull a beam from a catwalk (there was alot of catwalk mentions in the article) it would fall or break apart; if you force push a character into a stone piller it may shift a little or crack a bit, but if you throw a AT-ST cockpit into it then it'll shatter and the cockpit may dent a little.

All-in-all the game sounds sweet, but it also sounds like it's very linear and your Jedi freedom may be a bit bound. For example, they described one scene in which you fight against a Jedi that has a bunch of Rancors; in order to defeat a Rancor, you have to toss somthing at it to disorient it, then get close to it and have it eat you, then do a force power to explode it from the inside ... not sure I like having to kill something ONLY one way.

I really wish LA would bring out a Star Wars game in a sandbox environment. It'd be damn sweet to cross breed GTA with Star Wars to give players a deeper gameplay experience. Either way, I'm sure I'll be getting this game, from the sounds of it it'll be freaking SWEET!!!

Big Star Wars fan here, but...

...this'll probably be total shit. Prepare your "But a 5.0 ain't so bad!" rhetoric, kids.

I'm also guessing the (assumed) Wii lightsaber game will utterly suck because, well, they won't even have to try and they know it.

EDIT: For example, they described one scene in which you fight against a Jedi that has a bunch of Rancors

This alone sounds like a revenge fantasy that Ghyslain, the "Star Wars Kid", dreamt up while crying himself to sleep in his piss-stained bed.

But the way this game sounds intrigues me quite a bit. The possibilty of what online multiplayer might be like is what is really getting me going about this title. I just hope they don't drop the ball on this one. I don't want another Obi Wan.

Quite right.

I remember reading an article about the new Indiana Jones title, and while it sounded pretty cool, I've become rather skeptical of such "revolutionary" programming. The previews always start with something cliche like, "Picture this:...," and then when the game comes out you find it's just a few context-based animations that more often than not will happen no matter how you play.

But then again, what the fuck do I know. Every doubt I've had regarding anything with the 360 has been cleanly removed so far, and I would love for that trend to continue.

I thought Anakin(and the Empire) killed all, or nearly all, the Jedis in Revenge of the Sith. And aren't the only surviving ones at the time Luke and Obi-Wan? So how can one hunt a Jedi in this game, if there aren't any?

Well, I am probably wrong in my above statement, but I hope this game is good, with good multiplayer. If it plays like the Jedi Knight games, it should be good.

Edit: Woops, forgot about Yoda being a surviving Jedi.

If I remember correctly some survived and went into hiding (remember Obi Wan was able to send a warning message when they broke into the temple, replacing the message that was telling them to return to the temple), and Vadar was hunting them down and killing them between episodes 3 and 4.

I think we'd be ok storywise anyway. Anakin wiped out the Jedi on Coruscant (not sure if I spelled this right), and the Jedi Counsel, but there was definitely an impression that there were many Jedi. So, it would be unlikely that he got all of them (and Lucas likes to leave these parts of the story in between the movies, either because he likes to jump to new plots or to leave plot room for the books, etc (come on, Luke just showed up at Return of the Jedi as pretty much a full fledged Jedi, he left Empire as an undertrained Jedi wannnabe.

Man, I hope this game rules. I love Star War games.

Don't worry, you play the Dark Side through the entire game from what I read. I totally agree, the way of the Sith is much better (Hell, Tie Fighter is still my favorite Star Wars space combat games).

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

The Star Wars saga continues this November in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a videogame developed by LucasArts, which casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.
As its name implies, The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time: Digital Molecular Matter (DMM), by Pixelux Entertainment, and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. Paired with the powerful Havok Physics™ system, these new technologies create gameplay only possible on the new generation of consoles. DMM incorporates the physical properties of anything in the environment so that everything reacts exactly like it should - wood breaks like wood, glass shatters like glass, plants on the planet Felucia bend like plants on the planet Felucia would, and more. Meanwhile, as a revolutionary behavioral-simulation engine, euphoria enables interactive characters to move, act and even think like actual human beings, adapting their behavior on the fly and resulting in a different payoff every single time.

That's correct, and as this game proves, much of the "EU" material we'll see across a variety of media in the coming years will be how Vader relentlessly hunts them down across the galaxy, so that by the time the Tantive IV enters the frame in Episode IV, there are only two left. A 'midquel' era with no lightsaber fights would be one that doesn't make Lucas mucho dinero, and that clearly ain't happenin'. Hell, there could be one hundred or a thousand Jedi out there, for all we know. They will bend and revise things as they see fit to maximize fan spending.

I still don't like the idea of Vader having a pseudo-Sith apprentice to do his dirty work. (Although having Vader do fuckin' backflips and other Ninja Gaiden-y moves would really look silly, an issue that I'm sure heavily influenced the direction here.) The Jedi should die at the hand of his crimson blade, or by an onslaught of stormtrooper fire, or relentless bounty hunters. Also, it takes away from his discovery of Luke giving him the 'epiphany' that his dream of ruling the galaxy as a family could happen. But the kids love those anti-heroes and Star Wars needs its marketing meeting-born "Shadow the Hedgehog", I guess!

Also, it takes away from his discovery of Luke giving him the 'epiphany' that his dream of ruling the galaxy as a family could happen.
Not sure when it happens, but wasn't it eluded to that the Emperor expected Luke to take him out. I know in Jedi he said something to the fact of "take your blade and strike me down to complete your transition to the dark side". I don't know, it's possible that Vader was looking to train someone to help him get revenge on the Emperor.

jollydwarf
02-15-2007, 02:29 AM
The Emperor wanted Luke to give in to the Dark Side, because Vader was a shell of what he could've been thanks to The Duel. Vader at some point (for some, arguably from the fateful "What have I done?!" moment in Palpatine's antechamber/office) felt resentment towards the Emperor and felt like he could overthrow him. Both of them wanted Luke to off the other. As the novelization of Revenge of the Sith put it, "Treachery is the way of the Sith."

Maybe it's just my personal OT-loving bias clouding my vision, but I'd like to think that Vader never really made an effort to team up with one individual to possibly take down Palpatine until he found Luke. Besides, you would think that the Emperor would discover Vader's 'midquel' pupil one way or another, sooner or later, and have them both taken care of. With Luke, it was much muddier, because they both outwardly decided to coerce him to join them (see: the Empire hologram scene), while internally, they were both viewing him as the downfall of the other.

It's probably really tough to make an exciting game around Vader while not making him look laughable. I understand that. But concerning whatever 'apprentice' character ("Ya fried!") they've concocted, he or she is most likely going to be bland and utterly disposable. Hell, Vader pre-helmet was, as it turned out.

I would like to see a Jedi-in-hiding game set during this same timeframe (it's a big galaxy!) that makes you use your powers and lightsaber judiciously so as to not draw too much attention from the 'locals', but that'd be asking for gamers to show Patience, a Jedi-like trait, and that'll happen as soon as Lucas is asked to 'punch up' Josh Whedon's next script.

I don't get it at all - its so over the top, its ridiculous. Pulling down an entire cruiser? Ultimate fan service? Thinking back to all the Jedi duels and "powers" in the original trilogy, such as Obi and Vader's lightsaber battle or Luke flipping out of the trap and Vader thinking "impressive" - that was TAME. It makes me think, if Lucas had the technology at the time, would he rethought the entire original trilogy to be more Ninja Gaiden-esque as someone already mentioned. Is the only reason Vader didn't still flip around in III+ because the visuals weren't advanced enough for the day? The special effects available at the time seem to have more of a sway on the direction of the action then the story. I understand that "force unleashed" suggests more power than we have ever seen before, but at this stage, its maddening. Apprentice my cheeks, every action shot from that game suggests he/she's the most powerful Jedi ever. Pass.

jollydwarf
04-08-2008, 03:42 PM
I've always said that the way around the lightsaber issue while avoiding the "M" rating is to have enemies hold you somewhat at bay with laser fire, have shields or devices that can actually block your blade (see: Grievous' guard droids), and when it comes to a duel, instead of actual health damage, each opponent has a 'Force bar' that depletes as it autoblocks attacks that you, the player, do not manually block (with a well-timed button press or analog stick movement).* CPU opponents would also have a similar health bar substitute, and their moments of oversight would have a visible cue of any animation that shows them momentarily losing their balance/fight stance. Eventually, you would strike the fatal blow. Of course, Jedi 'bosses' would have a much greater chance of successfully blocking your attacks, and given the nature of these kinds of games, would probably only be beatable by your using the environment and your other Force powers to temporarily stun.

Everything I mentioned there would be too much work for the programmers and 'the kids' wouldn't like the frustration of an actual, you know, duel, so forget about it ever happening. Fortunately for me, I have no interest in this game as a full-priced purchase (or anything close, for that matter), as I have very little faith that it'll be anything above and beyond a mediocre, fairly short Ninja Gaiden-extra lite with a Star Wars skin.

*--The autoblocking would work for blaster fire, too. Maybe a trigger could be used to slow down time for the duration of a bar that replenishes, so as to make it somewhat easier to manually block the bolts or projectiles.

Sweet! Can't wait until the 21st to finally play this game. I really hope it plays as good as it looks. We haven't been flooded with SW games lately, and the Lego ones have been good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hey, as long as it doesn't have Ziro the Hutt, we'll be okay. Anyone who's seen the Clone Wars movie knows what I mean.

I will definitely be checking out the demo and probably picking this up. It's Star Wars.

One thing I can't get past is that the Apprentice holds his saber backwards. I saw an interview on G4 with one of the developers and he said that they had never seen anyone hold their saber like that in the movies, so that thought it would be cool. Well, the reason no one holds their saber like that is because it's not good for defense. You wouldn't hold a sword or gun behind you in a battle. I guess I'm just looking too much into it.

Well Joystiq had a write up on this game on their PS3 fanboy and they didn't really dig it that much. Lets hope the only reason is because it's a demo. They specifically pointed out the game looking lackluster, and the game itself just seeming sort of meh. Hopefully this game isn't going to have the star wars game curse of mediocre.

Yeah, I really don't have high hopes for this. From the videos it just looked like a pretty, generic beat'em game--but that could just be because I've never liked beat'em ups.

At any rate, still will give the demo a go as I'd like to have a good star wars game, but I'm not holding my breath.

It will have to be damn good to be as successful as KOTOR was. I will play the demo tomorrow anyway since I have been looking forward to the game, but I'm afraid it might be like Republic Commando. On a side note - I recently installed KOTOR on my PC to play over again, and just be a total bad ass and get my dark side as high as I could get it. The dark side ending is so much better.

I don't know why, but first thing I tried doing is making the Stormtroopers hold hands like in the demo when they're in panic. 08-21-2008, 11:56 AM
It's inspiring to think the force powers in the demo aren't the max level. You already feel like a mini-god among men from the get-go, even if you're not that invincible in the higher difficulties.

It's fun seeing him use many of the abilities I've gotten VERY used to him doing in Soul Calibur IV. I think some of the special effects look un-perfected (Theres a floating point of electricity above the lightsaber when you do electric-charged attacks, for example), so I hope a lot of that gets ironed out before the game releases. I do have to mention I love the Zelda-esque pause for impacts with melee attacks, and the camerawork whenever something extra impressive happens.

Seems like a very fun game!

The demo was meh. Really disappointing. I guess you would like it if you weren't hyped up for the original force unleashed. I hate the targeting reticle and the green orbs that fly out and how enemies have health. I thought it was suppose to be "kicking ass with the force" not dwindling down their health. I don't like the skewed camera that is pulled back so you can't see the crappy character models. Bodies dissapear... the jumping looks dumb.

"I enjoyed slicing the atst in half!"

Me too. Whats really dumb is i can download demos for arcade games the day they come out, but not the demos for retail games. Making people PAY to play demos right away is stupid, and robbery. Making me wait to buy gamerpics, or a theme is only going to decrease my chances of buying it. Because after a while, my impulse buying goes away, and logic sets in. So i think this one week wait is only hurting XBLM content. Plus i hate the fact that ill have to wait a week to buy GTA DLC even though ive paid 60 dollars for the game!!!! This is Madness. It should be like it used to be, where gold members could play online, and that was the only difference.

Demo was dissapointing. It's a pretty bad action game with a fancy effects/license paint job put over it. The combat is just dull and lacks challenge. Even the force powers gimmick gets old quick, because you're basically just throwing things around, except it's not as fun as it was in Psi-Ops or Half Life 2.

The targeting is very innacurate and the camera sucks. It's too zoomed in to see all the cool stuff you're doing, and doesn't react quickly enough to everything going on.

Even worse is the lightsaber stuff isn't nearly as good as Lucasarts' own Jedi Knight games. It should have been similar to those with the new force things added in, and a little more ninja gaiden/DMC style fighting. As it is, it's a bad God of War clone that lets you throw people around. The shallow Quick Time Event at the end of the demo was the punctuation to my increasing "meh" feelings on the game.

Throwing enemies around was fun, the first few times, but it's not going to make a $60 purchase worthwhile. Add that there's no multi or co-op and hopefully the full game has a LOT more depth/challenge or this is going to be quickly limited to the kids table.

I did a more complete write up on the CAG blog, but it got lost just as I was finishing it. I might re-write if I get the patience.. grr.

Having controls mapped to your motions and enemies that could get dismembered accurately to how you swing/robots that got chopped up based on how you swing. Yeah, i'd say so. Those games had badass multiplayer too, and the option to fight with guns. This really is a step backwards in all ways but the force powers - which were more stat/gameplay based than TFU's flashy effects.

I thought the demo was ok, but I can see it getting old really fast unless they mix up how you use the powers throughout the game. Using them to break open doors and manipulate locks is a pretty cool diversion but more stuff like that needs to be included in the full game.

The jumping just looks/plays awful though and I don't like how the camera is set up, it just seems too close. If the final result is like the demo, I think it will be a good rental.

I haven't played the demo yet, but that was my take on the game. Even if it ended up being good, it would just be a rental as these types of action games are pretty short, repetitive and I seldom replay them.

Not a knock on the game, that's just how I am with action games, beat 'em ups etc.

I was really excited for this game, and was going to buy it on day one. So with that said, I was really disappointed with the demo. I'm glad they put out a demo because I would have wasted $6x.xx on a game that I would play through once. The thing I thought was really stupid was the jumping. I don't really know what the devs were aiming for here, but the jumping is just plain retarded. I think that's the best way to explain it. The force stuff was cool at first, but then it had an Assassin's Creed type of feeling, which was awesome at first, but got boring rather quickly. I am not going to be purchasing this game now, but instead will probably pick up Mercenaries 2, which comes out next week.

Loved it , day one purchase. That hangar part with the beams you can force push to destroy Tie fighters was a pretty cool thing to throw in that didn't matter in the slightest. Force holding a guy, bashing him on the floor and then the ceiling a few times was also pretty fun. My only real complaint is the lightsaber itself seem underpowered without using a combo move like force lightning with it.

Razzuel
08-21-2008, 07:21 PM
I don't really like the game. The premise sounded really awesome but I think they got caught up in making the game feel to "gamey". Star Wars games never get lightsabers right. If I can cut a droid in half in the beginning of the demo then I should be able to cut a storm trooper in half or cut the leg of an AT-ST off. I mean it is a fucking lightsaber not a steel sword. I really would of liked if the force powers weren't restricted. I was running out of force power all the time which felt really lame. Unlimited force power would of been a lot more enjoyable. I know this would of made the game easy in its current state but that's why they are supposed to build a game around being a complete bad ass.

That AT-ST fight was really annoying and difficult. Eventually dieing and retrying became extremely monotonous so I quit. Oh an how the hell can an AT-ST cause a shockwave with its foot—stupid.

There was also a really lame animation fuck up too. I got knocked face first into the ground by the AT-ST. The AT-ST did its foot stomp and I got knocked off the platform, falling to my death, but I was still face down as if I was on the ground. Starkiller proceeded to stand up as if he was still on the ground not even realizing he is falling to his death.

Agreed. I have Satellite Internet so no playing online for me. Not to mention I can only Download large files between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM or be baned from my Internet for 24 hours. Gold would be a waste of my cash.

I like it. It is a fun game but there are few problems that kinda ruin the game for me.

1. The graphics are okay and stuff but I saw a couple of screen tearing and places where there was not graphics O.o

2. When your trying to aim your force power and it hits the wrong person or doesn't hit them at all. I also remember when I had an object and tried to through it at a tie fighter and it went to hit another person I did not even aim at that guy WTF

3. The force controls have to get better(but it wont happen)

I have more problems but whatever

The real game is so much better, you can change the camera (5 or so camera modes, choose ISO, give you that Diablo like perspective) I also hated the R stick melee attack, but I practice and got use to it after a few hours, now I kick butt and it feels natural

Just played the demo, wasn't impressed, but then again, I was expecting to be. Very mixed reviews here. I, personally, think this game will be as 'hit or miss' as Assassin's Creed.

Definitely a rental, not a first day buy for me just because they took out online support.

It's pretty amazing that you can do pretty much anything you can think of in the game. For example, there was a metal pole hanging down in the TIE hangar with all the ships flying by. I was like "Hmm, I wonder if I can bend this back.." so I tried it, and it worked. I kept giong back and back and back.. and pretty soon, every TIE fighter that flew by hit it and blew up :D

Psi-ops had too many bugs and glitches to be amazing.

This demo made me actually want the game. I heard about it and saw some video online, but nothing interested me about it. But after playing it, I am stoked. I held reservation. I am certainly glad I didn't give into the hype wagon before I played the demo. I might be buying this on or slose to release. That would certainly explain the lackluster visuals. I was dismayed by the character models for Starkiller and Darth Vader, and some of the animations were less than stellar. I think the jumping was the worst offender. It was like a watered down version of Dante's Air Hike in DMC.

Other than that, I liked the demo. The Force powers were neat, and the combat, while not at the NG level, was enjoyable. Don't know if I'll pay the full $60 for it, but if I can get it at some sort of discounted price, I'll pick it up.

I frickin' LOVED this demo. I'm a Star Wars fan but I kind of lost interest in this game after it was delayed for the umpteenth time (I've been playing with TFU minis for almost a year now). This demo totally gave me a kick in the balls. I expected it to at least hold my interest because it was SW themed, but I didn't expect it to be a genuinely awesome game. That melee pause (a la Windwaker) does so much for the combat. Definitely picking this up day-one.

I have major problems with the camera and locking onto the enemies didn't help either too. Force grip was hard to use in the heat of battle. I'm going to have to wait for a price drop on this one.Did you explore the options screen? I was pretty pissed with the camera, but then I went in and tweaked the sensitivity and inverted it and it felt great. I also changed force grip to 'toggle' instead of 'hold' and it made a world of difference.

Making people PAY to play demos right away is stupid, and robbery. Making me wait to buy gamerpics, or a theme is only going to decrease my chances of buying it. Because after a while, my impulse buying goes away, and logic sets in. So i think this one week wait is only hurting XBLM content.I definitely would have say so, because I grabbed it on PSN, loved it, pre-ordered it and now have no reason to even try the XBLM demo. For consiole exclusive titles it may be incentive for people to upgrade, but, seriously... I can't imagine it's good for business in situations like this.

I just played the apprentice level and it was okay. It seemed a bit too easy, and the same thing over and over. Then at the end when i went against that 2 legged machine (i forget what they are called) it looked like i could use my force to pick it up, but i couldnt. Then when i was rapidly jumping and slicing it, random buttons came up for me to press in order. But while i was hacking away at it, i would always press the wrong button becuase the button sequence comes out of nowhere. I did beat it, but i really hate when they have press button A, then B, then X to complete something. I dont really like how fast he moves and jumps. But other then that its pretty cool. I think because its star wars that is what makes it cool. If it was some other franchise then maybe i wouldnt like it.

Not terribly exicted by the demo. I thought it was kinda meh. The graphics didn't blow me away and seems like throwing things will get boring after a while. Also can't help to think the the fighting in the game is a bit shallow. Although all my comments are premature bc the full game could offer more depth but would like the fighting to be akin to DMC, GoW and Heavenly Sword. Now that would be a kick-ass game.

Yea. Speaking of Psi Ops when the fuck is 360 going to make it playable... I bought it cause I never played the full game (only the demo) but it doesn't work! Ergh!

Anyways about SW:FU, I have played the demo multiple times. On 360 and PS3, and I am actually a little into it now, if you have expectations and have been looking at the force unleashed since it was announced you will be highly disappointed, but once you get over that the really Force Unleashed is not coming then you can find some fun in the game.

Also they have the ability to turn most of the hud off which I commend! I just wish you could turn the targeting and green orbs off...

Also, I dunno if it's just me, but the PS3 version looks signficantly more sharp and the colors are more realistic. (360 version is to dark and the contrast is wanky.) That could just be HDMI vs Component.

Funny I had my ps3 hooked up through hdmi and it was way too dark, was a tad bit sharper that i'll agree on. 360 is hooked up via VGA and was much brighter.

Just played the demo yesterday. It seemed like it would get old quick. The graphics were what's expected, not really amazing. Seems the character is way too overpowered. I think I would have enjoyed this more if it was a Wii exclusive.

What would save this game:
- Refreshing, specific mission objectives and not just kill the shit out of everyone (Which I'm sure it has at least some of.)
- Some type of free roaming sections, like say: HQ's, crowded cities.
- Fighting Yoda or perhaps even Vader himself. (The intro seemed very suspicious.)
- Customizable character.

That was my first thought as well, they want you to not just go through the entire game force grabbing soldiers like you could in the demo. Makes sense as during the demo the soldiers were 100 percent no threat to me at all, an entire game of that probably would be boring.

Well, I was hoping for the game to be you playing as a unstoppable bad ass Jedi, with force powers that are unleashed. Not some "meh" action game. And what's wrong with being able to totally obliterate everyone you come in contact with? I was hoping the challenge would come when fighting other Jedi's. . . the soldiers would be the equivalent to walking to the Colossus in Shadow of the Colossus.

Very meh game to me, i don't care for the button pressing cut scenes either.

I still want to play the game but I completely get what you're saying. But that has always been a problem with star wars games, a lightsaber isn't some glowing metal sword it is a weapon that severs limbs in a hearbeat yet it never gets portrayed like that. Always hope for a sequel .

This game was one of my most anticipated for the year. I played the demo and liked it but like a lot of people said previously, I'm not a fan of the 'anti force armor' crap. That kind of sucks..

Also it's not doing so hot on Metacritic either :\

Yeah, I never go with MetaCritic or any reviews. Too Human was blasted, and while I say it isn't the best game ever, I have highly enjoyed it. I've long since given up on gam reviews because most of it is based on the personal preference of the writer involved.

Metacritic said EGM gave it a 56, GameRankings said EGM gave it a 68.33
Wish they would just leave out alphabet review scores if they have to make up a number like this, or make it a separate category just showing what it got.

One of my favorite games on the dreamcast got a 3 if I remember correctly, yeah reviews don't mean much since your personal taste can be wildly different.

lol @ "not having obligations to sell on release day".. LucasArts won't appreciate that and won't send them stuff in the future.. assuming they're getting it direct from them, which I assume they are, since they got it in early.

Some local mom and pop store doesn't care about lucasarts as much as lucasarts doesn't care about them. Most of those places get their games from a middleman distributor that buys in bulk from the publisher and sells to small stores like that at a markup anyway. They're pretty far from any direct suspicion.

Uh highly doubt it. If it isn't a major chain, they probably go through a distributor.

I just beat it if anyone has any questions ill try to answer them.

I had alot of fun though I beat it in about 7-8 hours great game im going after the 1k achivements and ill probally be done. It kinda reminds me of devil may cry in the sense that even though I beat the game I still wanna play it just for the hot fights and being a bad a$$. Vader stage is sweet too

7-8 hrs only, then I should finish it before a weeks end. so theirs no MP vs mode then, thats the only reason why I would keep it.

nope no vs mp mode only wii has that I belive. I was on some type of crack this weekend I played the game str8 through and I fairly found alot of stuff. Still more to do though I see myself playing it again on Hard or Hardest for the achivement and get the second ending and getting my full 1k but I will play again just for fun here and there though

this is why game journalism is a joke, why no one asked the developers, why they are screwing 360,ps3 owners by not having vs MP, thats why i think game reviewers and so called game journalists are the lowest form of writing. its a simple and point question vs mp should be on all versions enough said glad I get to play the game for free for a week then return back to eb before weeks end to get full credit for something else like fifa09. FU game journalists for weak questions and FU lucas arts for screwing the customers.

Do you guys think this is the type of game Gamestop will 15+ used copies of within a month after release like Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed?

reviews have been pretty harsh so far. The demo seemed fun but I could see the hack n slash frustration elements. I still wanna pick it up though cuz the TRU deal will be nice, especially since I still have my $10 gift card from Madden.

My bro works for gamestop he got off work just now (his store is the one I am going to for a launch event) and he told me they do have special star wars figurines that are very high quality (like the halo 3 todd mcfarlene quality) that come with a special code for the game etc. He told me that you can only get them at launch night and that they are being sold ($10) not given away. I am not sure I believe him as he couldn't even remember what it looked like. (He is not a 360 fan at all) anyways just thought I would give that info out there.

The game is pretty short. Certain bosses require a certain strategy to beat otherwise it could be frustrating. Its a linear path game, but if you are into Star Wars this story is a must. The gameplay itself is nice because of the many types of ways to kill people using the force powers and stuff.
Basically this game will have dozens of copies in the used section within a week or two after release due to people finishing the game and not doing anything with it. Now there are two endings but they don't require a whole replay. The hardest difficulty setting has to be unlocked so for all the achievements you'd have to play through it twice. There are also Jedi Holocrons that you can collect that give you different lightsaber colors like red, blue, purple, gold, green and black or they are saber crystals that can give your saber added benefits. That gives it the minimum replay value.

Beat the game on normal. Took less than 6 hours. I'd give the game a 6 overall. The demo on XBL is better than this game as a whole.

The frustrating elements far outweigh the positive elements. So much so, that when I beat the game I was completely done with it. I'm fine with never playing it again.

Dealbreaker right here, I just changed my mind even with the Toys R Us deal going on. That is just entirely too short an experience so i'll borrow a friend's copy.

I don't think multiplayer is mandatory for any game. Frankly, I think some games embarrass themselves by attempting to toss in a last-minute halfassed multiplayer mode. Adding multiplayer more to satisfy a Game Design 101 requirement than anything. If the game won't function well with multiplayer, leave it the fuck out.

Holy crap the Star Destroyer thing was a pain. They turned one of the highlights of the game into one of the biggest annoyances.

I really am enjoying the story, despite the "average" (Yes, average, Wombat) reviews.

Double jump. A+A then do the dash thing with LB and if you want even further which is what you need for a holocron later you need to add a B
So: A A LB B for the furthest possible movement.
