There are still way too few games on the PStriple... I think the only stuff I've got that's worth hanging onto is NG Sigma and Ridge Racer 7 (which is great, despite the Kaz Hirai factor)... since MGS4 makes 3 good games worth having on the PS3 for me, and the system's been out for like 2 years... that's pathetic.

But MGS4.... soooo important.

Anyone know just how many people were line in NYC?

Resistance
Warhawk
Uncharted
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
MGS4

All jump to mind as good exclusive PS3 games. I think that by this time next year there will be alot more good games out for it.

I didn't go, but Game|Life reports (http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/06/new-york----at.html) that the line stretched all the way to 6th Ave (from Broadway, which intersects with 7th Ave. around that point). Midtown Manhattan blocks are huge, so maybe... 300-400 people? It would be more if it curved around the block, but that wasn't made clear. I'm sure there's a better estimate elsewhere.

Someone mentioned on NeoGAF or here, I forget, upwards of almost 700 people?

Someone posted pics of his signed MGS4 LE 40 GB Gunmetal PS3 O_O!

I'm at work now. This sucks.

I got Friday off though. We're going to have a good time you and I, Snake... a good time.

Resistance was soooo boring. It was solid, but after playing FEAR, I remember it being untolarbly bland.

Warhawk is pretty damn boring too... glad I didn't buy that.

Uncharted... shooting mechanics killed it completely. Pretty, though.

I heard the GS at my Mall (1 out of 5 locations in my area) had over 300 preorders for MGS4. The GS I'm picking mine up at had over 200. There might have been around 1k preorders on MGS4, just in my area alone, which is quite impressions (that's like 0.5% of my town).

I'm really excited, but cannot go until close to around 2pm since I cannot get a ride until then. Then I won't be able to go home and play it until 4pm at the latest, since I have to make other stops.

That is quite 'impressions' indeed.... just curious, what difficulty are you gonna play it on TMK?

I wanted to play more, but I'm at work now :(

Thats why I reserve at GameStop stores with no traffic at all... I hate waiting in lines on weekdays.

Thats why I reserve at GameStop stores with no traffic at all... I hate waiting in lines on weekdays.Well, the slowest GS locations I'm thinking, were over 30 minutes out of my way (there's one GS located in pretty much a rural area, that doesn't get much business, especially since there's another location down the street closer to neighborhoods. One was GS while one was EB, but the merger changed it).

I will play on the easiest difficulty most likely.

It wouldn't surprise me the location at my mall has a ton of preorders. They have HUGE MGS4 posters at the front entrance (the store has always been located in a very high traffic area) and lots of other MGS4 stuff heavily exposed.

Checked out the Ninja Gaiden 2 demo last night per daroga's reccomendation the other day.

I was pretty impressed. I'm not a giant action game fan, but this was pretty enjoyable. Lots of moves with the different weapons etc. I liked the moon staff thing the best for my initial brief play through.

Only concern would be difficulty, as I know the series has a reputation for being tough as nails and I don't have patience for hard games these days. I didn't struggle at all with the demo, so maybe I'd be ok playing on that easier difficulty setting for the whole game.

At any rate, I definitely want to give the full game a go sometime. Not for $60 though. I'll wait for it to go on sale for at least $40 or to be able to get in on goozex. No rush as I have a couple games on the shelf I need to get to, and very little time for gaming this summer anyway.

the disgaea 3 trailer looks pretty hot.

for some reason i wasn't too big a fan of disgaea 2. the story was fun but the actual gameplay system seemed barely improved over disgaea 1... i did like all the extra side stuff though.

I wasn't too crazy about Disgaea 2's story, but I did like the gameplay improvements, especially the secret rooms in the Item World and all the changes made to the Dark Assembly.

Disgaea 3's the only PS3 game I'm interested in right now. We ended up getting a 360 instead, though :/

Who here bought a ps3 for mgs4?

Someone at my GS did last night at the midnight sale. It was funny too because he came out carrying the PS3 and MGS4, while wearing a X360 lanyard and hat and someone said" Hey that ain't no 360!" He kinda laughed and replied I hate the PS3, but I want to play MGS4. I have a decent amount of good games for the PS3, I don't know why all the hate and when people say it doesn't have enough good games. It does not have enough good exclusives, I'll agree with that but some multi platform games are even better on the PS3. *Does not want to turn this into a fan boy flame war again*

Any way played a little more of MGS4, and I am finally getting used to the controls, which makes me like the game a lot more. Wtf is square for though? I think the controls take some time to get used to, and that is what was "off" to me last night. Anyway to those who got it, enjoying it thus far? Impressions of it? Graphics are fucking gorgeous, Story seems decent thus far, game play is great, once you get the controls down, music is EPIC and awesome like all MGS games. Question, how do you roll while laying on the ground with a gun? I can't seem to figure it out and don't want to read the manual.

Picked up my LE at the midnight launch, no problems. GS sold through their meager allocation of MGS4 PS3 bundles as well. I shouldn't have been surprised that the turnout was almost as large as the GTAIV launch, but I kinda was, a little.

The game's visuals blow me away. However, and this is somewhat of an experience/story spoiler: The brief, live-action interludes before the game and in-between stages are extremely weird.

That sounds reasonable. I don't like absolute pushover games, but I don't want to be throwing my controller through the TV by the middle of the game either.

I can only talk TVs since I never looked much into front projetors....

For that price I'd recommend looking into 50" plasmas from Panasonic and see if you can find a deal, or some of the newer LCD rear projection TVs in the 50"+ range from Sony.

I have the Sony 50" e2000 series and love it--they don't make them anymore but the newer lines out have even better pictures. The Panny plasma's had better pictures when I was looking last summer--but I couldn't pass up the Sony at $999.99 vs. $1399.99 for the Panny Plasma.

Many will probably reccomend plain LCD (rather than rear projection) but I'm not a fan as they're still pricey and I don't think there is an affordable 50"+ LCD out there and I wouldn't go smaller than that personally.

But it's all preference. Just head to the local stores and play around (i.e. adjust teh color setting etc.) with different types and brands of TVs and see what you like.

Hm, $1200 is so broad. I guess it depends on what you want?

Offhand, that will give you a huge selection of 26-42" (and an occasional off-brand 46") plasma or LCDs--I believe mostly 720ps--to choose from.

I think LCDs are a better long term value now, and will continue to be, over plasmas--esp. once LED backlights become more common/mainstream. Lower power requirements and heat output still give them the edge at least, IMO.

Brands I like/have faith in are Sony, Samsung, and Sharp with Sonys being the high end in price (i.e. you'll get less/smaller for the money with Sony).

My main TV is a 46" Sharp AQUOS LCD that does 1080p. Picked it up with "Friends and Family" discount direct from Sharp for $1300, but at the time it was retailing for over $2K.

It's been a little while since I've researched projectors, but $1200 sounds like that rough spot between very good and not good enough as far as features/specs.

For me, I'd rather wait and save a little more to get a higher-end, larger TV or higher-end, better resolution/brighter projector than to try and squeeze something in on budget as it minimizes the "rats, I could've done better" feeling post-purchase.

Edit: forgot to mention DLP and rear-projection LCD TVs. There are many solid, larger-sized DLPs and rear proj LCDs that do 1080p that run about this price. Again, I like the 40"-ish size and up Sonys and Samsungs for these kinds of TVs. Best thing to do would be to test 'em out at your local electronics store to see how you like the PQ. I don't care for the lack of brightness/contrast with the rear-projection LCDs (compared with other types of TVs), and the bulb replacement on DLPs can be scary in terms of price and long-term maintenance, but there's a lot of great-looking ones that fall around $1200.

Good luck...

I have an Xbox 360 and PS3.

I don't like that Nintendo didn't make the jump to HD for this generation. The Nintendo games don't appeal to anymore because they are trying to cater to such a broad audience and it has gotten "too simple" for me. The franchises on the Wii just aren't cutting it for a 17 year old anymore.

360 I have for exclusives (Gears, Halo, etc.), multi-platforms are 99.9% better on 360(I will never buy a sports game for PS3 because that version is usually inferior), and all my friends have 360 so it is more fun to play online.

PS3 I have for exclusives of PlayStation series I have been playing for years and years and I don't want to stop playing them as well as the new IPs. (Tekken, MGS, GTA) (Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Uncharted) and its a blu-ray player.

I like HD.

I played some Commandos 3 and NG2 prior to heading out for the MGS launch last night.

Commandos 3 is pretty much what you'd expect from the old-school, isometric view, run-and-gun shooter but it was still pretty fun. I guess nothing beats running around and blowing shit up, no matter what generation of technology it is.

And I love NG2. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm loving acolyte mode as well. I'm damn rusty on these action games, and I don't expect I'll be getting much better so it's all good with me. Plus, I can always switch difficulties or re-play the game if I need an ego boost ego crush.

I admit I was getting a little concerned about the game becoming one of those odd, short-print titles that gets rare/hard-to-find.

Thanks for all the TV suggestions guys. I don't think I'll be getting anything much over 40" as the room just isn't that big that it'll be going in.

This TV seems like a great bang for buck. CNet loves the line (though they only reviewed the 32" from the "entry level")

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN37A450-37-inch-720p-HDTV/dp/B0014176N8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1213314607&sr=1-2

I don't think 1080p is a real necessity in a 40" and under screen, and it'll save some scratch.

Battle of the Bands - surprisingly fun, awesome music. Music player from the main menu is win.

Speaking of Disgaea , I'm curious as to how the DS port of the first game is gonna turn out. I passed on the original PS2 version and got the PSP version since it was supposed to be better but I really don't wanna re-buy the game again unless it's significantly better , which seems unlikely. I'm also wondering why it's taking them so damn long to announce the seemingly inevitable Disgaea 2 deluxe for the PSP.

And speaking of rentals , I have my copy of spyro : the eternal night for the gba still sitting in it's gamefly envelope unplayed cause I've been trying to finish Phoenix Wright 2 , which hasn't been going well.

Well, I was first in line yesterday for the MGS4 PS3 bundle at the midnight opening. There was only about 20 people or so there, so we had a good time. They even made a couple of the employees that wanted the bundle stand in the back of line.

I haven't had a chance to play it much since I'm still up in Kentucky at my parent's house, but I played a bit of my brother's (he got a bundle too). Wow. Cannot fucking wait to get this back home and hook it up.

I don't think I like the Solid Eye.

There's a guy far away - I want to know if I should shoot him or not.
Sometimes I see small test, sometimes I see nothing.
If I do see the small text, I have to figure out which side Militia is on.
If he is militia, will he raise an alarm if he sees me, or will he not care?
Arg.

I feel as though I'm takin' my sweet time... moreso than in any other MGS. I'm really being stealthy, particularly cause it's so fun to use the camo system and hide.

And I'm stunned by how many ways there are to approach a situation.

I might keep the PS3. Just might.

I knew I would keep it when I saw MK2 on the store with online multiplayer...

And I want to play uncharted and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. And Resistance.. that's about it, though. Maybe Warhawk, if I get it cheap.

I can't say enough good things about MGS4.

I dunno if MGS4 will stay exclusive, but all I knows is this game is fuck ing EPIC. Oh it will. Konami said exclusive in more places than ANY other game. It will sell fine anyway. It's not like of those games that badly needs to be multi-platform to make the money back.

Anyway, I'm a little angry that the PSN Card I bought no longer works (got errors yesterday) and no money was added to my wallet, so I gotta call SCEA today. I'm still one of the first to have one, so it's not like I can easily find the problem out.

jer7583
06-13-2008, 09:57 AM
Nah I'm sure there'll be a directors cut version put out on 360. Nothing I've seen so far seems like it couldn't be done on 360, graphically or storage wise. They'll just have to be smarter with compression and put the online component on another DVD.

I didn't mean it to say any other game is perfect, but the hyperbole people are spouting about the game's quality is absurd. At least in the first act, many areas are easy to get lost in and seem to be lacking the tight structure and design even MGS3's open areas had. The sniper segment early in the game has no real areas to flank the enemy, and two areas right next to each other where enemies continually respawn (way too obvious areas, where I actually saw PMC soldiers popping into existence) seemingly forcing you to rambo through instead of giving you the option for stealth.

The lack of a modern cover system also is frustrating. The silly story elements remain, and Akiba's diahrrea was funny once, and increasingly annoying the 20 times after that. The inventory system is as clunky and unintuitive as mass effect - Going to the menu everytime I need a new weapon not in my 5 presets is not a good choice. Drebin's shop system makes no sense since everytime I pick up a weapon it's just an extra menu choice to get it unlocked.. etc. etc.

I'm still really, really enjoying it, but as with any hyped product, people are glossing over the flaws because of the hype. It's gorgeous and has the best controls the series has had yet, and I've already seen some awesome scenarios that I know I'll want to play again.

Just because they said it more doesn't make it any more true. You hear lots of people use the word these days and it's rarely true anymore. But I couldn't care less if it stays exclusive or not, I have a a PS3 to play it on and I would gladdy rebuy a directors cut(or whatever they choose it) of the game(Which I'm sure we'll see sometime soon).

The silly story elements remain, and Akiba's diahrrea was funny once, and increasingly annoying the 20 times after that.

I imagine that Sony will want to keep it exclusive for at least a year, it's obvious people are buying PS3's just for MGS4 and I guess shifting units is a key for Sony.

They'll want developers to see an expanding user base and hence greater profits on PS3 games.

I think the fact that he's Johnny Sasaski should clue you in that he's gonna be walking around with the brown stain. Johnny's been in every MGS game and is constantly the source of diarrhea jokes. I think the Akiba part is supposed to be a reference to Akihabara, but I'm not sure.

Seems like it will do pretty well, surprisingly. Sold 300k its first day in Japan, likely headed for a 450k first week or so. Which would already make it the best-selling PS3 game over there.

The Mana Knight

I wonder what the budget for MGS4 was. I've got a hard time believing it's going to make a profit any time soon sitting on the PS3 only.I thought I heard somewhere it had to sell around 1 million copies. The game sold over 300k copies in one day in Japan, and that doesn't include any PS3 bundle containing the game (which also sold out at many retailers there). If my county (definitely not the biggest one) has around 1k preorders at just GS, I pretty much guarantee the game sold 1 million copies or more on JUST the initial date, worldwide (PS3 also has its smallest userbase in Japan. Also, MGS series has been selling the best in Europe, and that's where PS3 has its largest userbase). Most games budget, they have to sell 500k to make a profit, and bigger budget games have to sell around 1-2 million to make a profit. I'm pretty much thinking the game will sell 2.5 million overall, and as long as it does, the game is fine. This isn't like many a brand new IP which people may not care about, which needs to sell 500k and keeping it exclusive.

The main reason I don't see it ported is, LATE PORTS DON'T SELL. Despite all the added content VF5 had on 360, it did not sell as much as the PS3 version worldwide. PS3 has the smaller userbase too. Last gen, MGS2 Substance bombed very badly on Xbox (sold like 25X less on Xbox when compared to PS2). Lost Planet sold like crap on PS3 compared to 360 due to being a year late. Late ports just don't sell, and when you factor in the cost of porting (Porting MGS4 to 360 would be harder since the game uses a dual-layered Blu-ray disc at 50GB), the cost of porting isn't going to make up. If anything, Konami will release a MGS4: Sub something on PS3 in a year. Not trying to be in denial here or anything, but late ports do not sell. I guarantee Bioshock is going to sell like crap on PS3, because it's a late port (Gamers want their games NOW, and even if it comes a year later, it becomes old news. GC had a much smaller userbase than PS2, but RE4 on GC outside the PS2 version in the U.S.).

MGS4 is also an exclusive Sony would paid for (that and Final Fantasy main series). If there was ANY loss (which I doubt it), Sony would cover it (they certainly did for the Final Fantasy movie). Just look at the PSBlog, it's a game they won't shut up about and are not staying quiet over (It sometimes seems more like a Sony franchise than Konami). Plus, Kojima said himself, there's no way he's porting the game ever. And does Konami have anyone else left good enough to do a port??? Nope (Many of their development teams have downsized significantly since late last gen, which explains why their internal studios output is tiny now. Also, it explains why Silent Hill: Homecoming and Origins was outsourced).

From what people have said, the MGS2 Substance port on Xbox was terrible or something. Was Kojima involved in that? The only issue with the port was there was a slight bit of slowdown at the very beginning and the controls may have felt weird (since it was designed for a PS controller). I certainly believe Kojima was involved since there was a big OXM interview with him at the time it was getting ported (I use to have that OXM issues too and remember that).

I do remember the game came out near the same time as Splinter Cell, which did very well on Xbox (not so good on PS2). Oh course quality of ports can hurt sales, but overall, if a port is a bit late, it just won't sell most of the time. Releasing a game simultaneously on two platforms, all versions tend to do good (or seem to sell at a ratio of comparing user bases usually).

Maybe not a good example, but the PS3 port of Overlord has all the 360 DLC and some added features I believe, but since it's late and selling at $60 (compared to the 360 version at $20), I can guarantee it will not sell and it might have been best to not bother (I see its good for those who only have one console, to bring a late port, but usually new games come along, and they get forgotten).

MGS4 needs to sell more than a million. It needs a couple million in its lifetime to start to pull profit. It's ridiculous. Nothing against the game, but I don't know how it will sell a large million number of copies for a system that has barely over a 10 million fanbase around the world when halo 3's lifetime units are close to 8 million and it's on a console that has a nearing 20 million fanbase.

I had it before and loved it. But that was when they still had the Tivo made DVR and before they started leasing their equipment rather than giving it away or selling it for free....

I'd still probably take them over Comcast if I had the option in my current place though, just because I hate Comcast so much.....but maybe not as I need the cable internet since Fios isn't available and when we tried DSL it was slow as balls here due to shitty wiring in the condo building.

I've had both DirectTV and DishNetwork and agree that DishNetwork is better...you can get a better starting year package, you don't get charged on returns (damages due to spills etc), dvr is just as good as tivo (maybe even easier to use), and you get color-coated remotes! :)

My brother picked this (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8781339&st=asus&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1204332769810) up today. Along with Orange Box and a 1 year warranty it came out to $1390.xx IIRC.

At Bestbuy I got my Dad the 3:10 to Yuma Blu-ray for Father's Day.

Then at CVS later I got him this Father's Day card. --> http://cmsimg.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=B2&Date=20080608&Category=FEATURES&ArtNo=806080337&Ref=AR&MaxW=180&Border=0

Oh yeah and I canceled my MGS4 LE which was $10 and ended up getting Sega Genesis Collection (PS2) for use on my PS3.

I like some JRPGs, but they have to be really, really good, and not feature 12 year old girls and 12 year old boys that look like girls and be filled with cliches.

I want to try that remote play feature sometime. Can you do something like put a PS1 game in the PS3 and play it via Wi-Fi on your PSP somewhere? That sounds amazing.

No, 37" or higher is where you'll really start to notice a difference. It won't be as drastic as the difference between 720 and 1080 on a 50" or higher set, but it'll definitely be noticeable.

It's worth it if you have an Xbox 360 and/or PS3.That doesn't really change my questioning of it. I've got stuff that can output at 1080p, no problem, it's that at 40" the screen's not really big enough for someone to notice the difference in detail that the resolution brings. I suppose viewing distance is an issue too.

Besides, most games this gen run natively at 720p anyway. It's really the BluRay argument that is the most forceful one.

Well thats what happens when you go to a store with the basic idea of "I shall buy a TV" and no research/idea of what you want. Don't do it kids.

Luckily my company paid for it as part of my relocation package.;)
Even more lucky is that I can point it directly at where I sit in the room, so I get the best of what it has to offer.

When it finally goes the way of the dodo, this is what I was intending on getting

hmmmm....

I liked them better than the MGS3 bosses (except for The Boss, obviously), but they lacked personality. They're more or less just dropped there for some reason. I still think the best set of bosses are either those in MGS1 or 2, because they had a real purpose for being there... they had personality, motives, and were much more integral to the storyline. That said, I loved fighting the actual battles.

And I fuckin' loved the Rex/Ray and Ocelot fights.

Got home late last night from my sister's wedding in Kentucky, and stayed up even later hooking up that triple and playing some of that MGS4 awesomeness. One of the best console games I have ever played, period. No, its not perfect, but it does so many damn things right that the imperfections are easier to overlook.

Last night I went thru all of Act 1 and am now a good ways into Act 2 on normal (Solid) difficulty. Then, I restarted a new game and played it on the easiest setting, and just went thru Act 1 again without bothering to do any stealth and just running and gunning my way thru. Awesome. I thought it was cool that I got different opening movies, and I'm wondering if this is just random, or is it based on the difficulty you select?

Anyway, I'm going back to playing it now.

BTW, my PSN callsign is Krymner, if anyone wants to friend me.

It certainly not going to be what an audiophile with unlimited money would get, but it's gonna be a heck of a lot better than what we've got (amp/speakers from a HTIAB from about 7 years ago). Maybe the fronts will actually have tweeter AND a woofer in one speaker ;) Actually, kinda thinking of going floorstanding over bookshelf speakers. Not sure yet though. Have to go listen!

Beat Contra 4 on east last night, and just beat Contra 1 on its cart. Great times! :)

I'd like to play MGO, But I need to play around with my PS3 and get it to stop disconnecting from PSN. And a DNS error a pops up every now and then when I turn on the PS3.

I am remarkably slow in MGS4, only in Act 2.
Same here. I got stuck working for 11 hours for 2 days. So I haven't really played much.

As always, if you've got any questions about that HT nonsense, feel free to ask.

Got my first death in MGS4. :bomb: Those damn Gekko's!! However, the Laughing Octopus boss fight was pretty easy.

MGO is really fun. I loved it in Subsistence and it's even better in MGS4. I'd be up for playing with GGTers. My PSN name is DioMustaine, but my name on MGO is VicRattlehead. I'm not sure how that really works.

Let's hope they keep the servers up for more than a year this time around.

Daroga I think the way gamesharing works is you can log onto the other person's Playstation Store account and re-download the game on a different PS3.

Yeah, the MGO system is pretty stupid. I don't know why it doesn't just use your PSN name, but some moron at Konami thought it would be a good idea to force you to make a new name.

Oh well. In any case, my PSN name and MGO name is mmmpepsi. We should get some GGT action going one night.

And happy b-day Daroga. Hope you get something nice ;)

Happy B-day big D. I'm still right after Drebin in Act 1 in MGS4. I haven't played much of it since the midnight release. Hopefully that changes today, but a girl wants to go out and do something with me and everyone knows girls come before dem vida ghames. ;)

I just read Gamespots review of MGS4 and I like their complaint "The single-player experience ends."

Best complaint ever.

Squeezed the last few cheesemints out of MOH Airbourne (well last few I can actually be bothered getting). So I need to decide what game I'm gonna concentrate on next.:-k

For what it's worth, Chac, I have no complaints about my DefTech speakers.

I thought I needed a break from MGS4, but I have nothing else to do. So I guess it's back to the game for me.

Thanks everyone! Spent the morning shopping with my wife (including speakers and TVs ;) ).

Originally I was thinking about just getting some better fronts for the setup and replacing the rest as I went along. However, the guy at the store suggested it might be better to get a 5.1 set so that they're all properly voiced / powered. That make sense?

The space they have to fill won't be huge (probably 10x10 or a little bit bigger from couch to EC), and they'll be running on on the Onkyo 606. Would something like this do?

http://www.amazon.com/Harman-Kardon-HKTS-18-Channel-Speaker/dp/B000K7ZWVK/ref=pd_bbs_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1213465393&sr=8-4

I'm not sure I could get away with spending any more on a speakers, but I also don't need top of the line stuff either (I've been using a Sony HTIAB setup for the past 7 years now), but I certainly want the most bang for my buck.

Is there going to be a huge difference between the set linked above and this one? Is H/K something I should even be consdiering?

Personally, I wouldn't bother with either of those. I really, really think you should get two good front speakers and a good sub. I guarantee you that with a great 2.1 for the time being, you would have a much better experience than you would with a 5.1... especially a 5.1 from Harman-Kardon.

I finished watching the Blu-Ray that came with the MGS4 LE. Very informative. I'm not sure if I want to play through MGS4 again and try and stealth through it, or if I wanna play Metal Gear 1 and 2...

MGS4 it is.

Any suggestions on where to be looking, Chac? Brands and the like? Would the medicore speakers that I've already got from my HT setup work alright as stand-in rears until I can get around to replacing them?

He demoed some Energy speakers which had a beautifully clean treble to them.

Yeah, your mediocre speakers would be fine for rears, especially since they won't get used that much.

For speakers, I'd look at these stereo pairs:

http://www.svsound.com/products-spks-sbs01.cfm

and

http://av123.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=172&category_id=21&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=37

The latter is not much better, but the finish is really nice, if you're into the whole wife approval business.

For the sub, it's going to be SVS:

http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-10nsd.cfm

That's the smaller one, and if the room you're putting this stuff in is small-ish, then it'll be more than enough. There's also the PB-12NSD which is a little bit bigger, though the price goes up quite a bit. Basically, this'll net you better sound than you get from the theater.

Only downside is that you've gotta order this stuff online... it's not at Best Buy or anything like that... but these places do have like a 30 day trial or something on their stuff, and honestly, this stuff is incredible, especially given the price.

Edit: Oh yeah, the sub is gigantic. That could be a downside for you, but if your room is set up for it, you could put the sub next to your couch and use it as a table. I'm not even joking.

Cool, glad I'm not the only one who is <sacrelliege> avoiding the stealth elements when they have a chance on at least one playthrough. And I will echo that is just sooo badass when the camera pans and zooms out just before you resume control of the game after a cutscene.

I can't stop playing this game! :o

Happy BDay Daroga! Wouldn't it be sweet if Konami did some hi-res remakes of the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 for XBLA and PSN? I'd be all over that. I really wanna get a PS3 for MGS4, but I was gonna holdout to find a 60GB model for the BC. I might just get a 40GG though. All of the PS1 games and most of the PS2 games will look like garbage on my plasma anyway.

Well last year had uhhhh...well, the only non FPS game I liked in 2007 (on current consoles) is Uncharted I think. I can't think of anything else.

Still, so far this gen is a disappointment IMO (aside from MGS4 of course).

All my local game stores still have the MGS4 LE in stock. If I secure a job this week (I have 2 different interviews), I'll go pick it up with the MGS collection.
If there is no job. I'll just get the collection and later on the regular edition.

I woudn't call it disappointing. Mass Effect, Bioshock, Portal, Phoenix Wright 3, Persona 3, Rock Band, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword (I liked it...), Ratchet and Clank, etc.

Far from disappointing.

Well for me so far, I've enjoyed FF Crisis Core, GTAIV, AW: Days Of Ruin, DMC4, and of course MGS4.

I've yet to try out Patapon, DBZ Burst Limit, COD4 (!), TWEWY, Burnout Paradise, and just a slew of other games.

I really want to pick up 360 though so I can play NGII also.

I can't wait for Resistance 2! That game looks amazing, whoever hasn't yet, should check out the gameplay/interview at Insomniac studios on Gametrailers.

I thought 2007 was an amazing year for games, Mass Effect, Orange Box, Forza 2, Super Mario Galaxy etc

I think this year might be dissapointing, seems to have been a lot of sequels so far.

I think this gen is kicking last gen's ass in terms of technological leaps forward like Live and the Wii.
