i dont think the 80gb is a limited edition as much as they used this bundle to get rid of the 80gb systems. 80gb systems werent in stores for a few months prior to the bundle being announced unless you bought a used one at ebgames/gamestop or you bought one at a ridiculous price on ebay or amazon. i think imo many stores were told to send back their stock of 80gb systems to sony so they could be converted to the 80gb bundles.

the addition of a free game and the new ds3 controller was a good way to get rid of the systems considering they were selling them at the current price of just an 80gb system alone. could be they stopped making 80gb systems a long time ago due to slow sales and many gamers reluctance to buy a system with emulation bc.

yeah they may come out with new consoles but for now 40gb might be all you can get new in stores.

Cancelled my Dell order that was delayed, and bought it right there. I was still around the area around 5 pm and saw that 2 bundles were left. Then I saw a couple of employees moving about 5 large boxes from the back room with a clear "qty = 2" on the sides - clearly more bundles. Sure enough, they hoisted out more for display.

I still can't believe out of all the calls and trips I've made, I never considered the Playstation store. But judging from the quick restocking, I'm guessing they have a few more bundles left there.

Colors on the PS2 are well... dated... and the HDMI input is sweet for bc games. I've played Xenosaga, Lunar 2, GTA4, and MGS4 on it within the last 24 hours. It's not silent like my old 40g and the 80g fans can get reasonably warm, but it's worth it. They're so sweet that even my buddy who helped me waste the time in line asked me to hook him up with one (also upgrading from 40g) and I did. =D

no, it won't let me check out either. It's done this off and on for a few days for me- changing between being listed as in stock or out of stock, but never letting me actually check out with it.

As for the Zoolert wonkiness, I think it's totally Sears' fault, they show it's in stock, and Zoolert goes by what the Sears page says. I'm sure their automated checker doesn't actually try to purchase the item before marking it as 'in stock'.

I was able to get one yesterday at my local Best Buy, this Best Buy sold out of all bundles the same day, so it must have been a second shipment that just arrived, I just passed by to pick up a movie and as I walked by the PS3 aisle I saw 3 bundles sitting next to a whole mess of 40GB's, picked one up right away. I think many people want to know. I've personally gotten rundowns such as "120 gig is coming out", "the mgs bundle was limited", and "we dont know when we're getting in but we have 66 on order"

Rumor has it that for launch, Sony only released 70,000 bundles. But according to Joystiq.com shortly after, a rep from Sony said they will be supplying more bundles to stores. They would not say when though. If you go to the CC forums, there is a customer service rep who said that CC doesnt know when they'll be getting in theirs. And even if he did know when, he can't release the info (for obvious reasons).

If you don't care about backward-compatibility, you can get the 40 GB and install a larger HD in it.

I'm sure once people find out what's going on, we will all know and post is here. So we just have to hang tight. Best bet for the time being is just to call every single day and inquire about it (hint: find out when they receive shipments and call that day or the day after).

to be fair, they do want to sell PS3s... but mostly the 40 gb version.

a problem with the MGS4 bundle is simply that they don't know how many fans there are of MGS4 that haven't already bought a PS3.

eventually there'll be a point where the bundles won't sell because people aren't willing to pay $500 for the console and they don't like MGS4. they want to sell up to, but NOT PAST that point.

What's funny is you can buy a PS3 40 GB (w/ no BC) for $400 OR get a PS3 80 GB (w/ BC) and a game for $500. So you're spending basically an extra $40 for 40 more GB and backwards compatibility.

It's quite clear which is the better choice WHEN there are 2 different options to choose from. In all th stores that I've called they mentioned that they still have the 40GB if interested. That goes to show you Sony found a good packaged bundle that people like. They don't have to use MGS4. They can even use other games or heck.. even offer the 80GB PS3 for $450, and I bet people would buy it.

I also think they created the 40GB to target a different market. People who wanted a bluray player and could care less about games would probably pick that up.

Back on topic, Sonystyle has it online to purchase. Because it's OOS, I can't make it through the checkout part. Circuit City also has it listed as "Backordered" wihch I'm assuming that a lot of people cancelled their orders because CC was overly slow in receiving their shipments.

After seeing a couple people on here mention finding some in stock at their local Targets yesterday, I decided to check mine here in Milford Connecticut today and sure enough, they had one in stock! It seems like your best chances of finding one in stores right now is Target, so make a trip to or call your local Targets and see if you get lucky.

Now I have to deal with trying to get a refund for the order I put through on Konami.com for the gunmetal PS3 (I didn't mean to buy it, I was just trying to see if they were actually in stock by going to the final confirmation page, but it turned out I went to far and it actually processed the card and now I'm having to deal with Konami's horrible customer service), but I'm so happy that I finally managed to get an 80gig.

Relax buddy. After all I did offer it to the CAG community first for cost as posted previously in this thread. Secondly nobody in the community offered to purchase. After waiting a few days I put it on ebay. I cant see how you could have a problem with that. So, settle down and get off your Internet high horse. Nope, they are much easier to find. As long as your local gamestop has a 40GB ps3 in stock, they'll just throw in mgs4 and a ds3.

If anyone is having a lot of trouble finding a bundle I suggest checking the SonyStyle store online a few times a day. They've had the bundle in a few times within the past few days, however it doesn't last for very long. In fact, here's the url to the page:

I managed to get one finally, and although I'll probably have to wait over a week before it arrives, I was also able to use the Sony CC to get $100 credit back from my purchase. I had the same problem 2 days ago. I was pissed, as the "add to cart" option was still available for at least 15 more minutes. I suggest to try again another time, the site seems to update frequently. Gotta echo the other posters, check your smaller local retailers like Target. I think in all the hype about Wal-Mart's gift card and Best Buy's price matching, a lot of people skipped over them.

Got mine yesterday at a local Target, the bundle + GTAIV for $540 thanks to a friends employee discount. They had four bundles when I went in, but two were being held when I left. If you're in the area, you might find one more at the Target on Imperial Hwy. in Fullerton, California.
