That fight at the end with Liquid Ocelot was pretty sweet. Yes you only attack with one button (well, unless you count the dashing and the blocking), but damn. I haven't seen such convincing hits since a long ass time.

I will say I enjoyed the game quite a bit. Now to dig into the gameplay more instead for the story since I'm done.

SF2 Turbo AI is nowhere near as hard as ST or HSF. I don't think I've ever beaten either of those.

I don't know anyone who plays A2 or A3 either, it's all 3S and I really really hate that game.

RCing is pretty easy... if you can get it a couple times in practice mode, just play your matches as if you could RC every time, and you'll build up your consistency.

But then again, I never learned RC electricty or the one where you charge back or down. The QC / HC ones are simple =)

Other than MGS4 and NGII, I've been playing a bunch of fighters. Hokuto no Ken, GGXX AC, Third Strike Garou MotW, and Project Justice. Third Strike is becoming my favorite SF; I used to prefer the Alpha series.

I've been working on my Griffon/Tizoc and Hugo. Grapplers FTW!

yeah, I've been watching alot of the dragunov T6 vids you have on your Youtube profile MM... it's never boring.

question MM as I never really took a moment to really answer this myself: to do a running attack (ie. f,f,f+2) do you need at least a certain amount of distance between the two players or regular command is fine? I always seemt o have a harder time pulling it off when the two characters are very close... I know I'm probably doing something wrong.

You can do it instantly you just have to be very quick. Even if there is no space between you and your opponent. Kinda hard to get used to at first, but once you get used to it you can pull it out like nothing.

I can do it point blank thanks to all of King's iSW (instant shining wizard; f,f,f+2+4) juggles...

An easy way of going about pulling off the move... just think, it's a normal f,f move, but you have to do it as fast as you can. Instead of hitting f,f and 2 at the same time... you have to do f,f, F+2. Think of it like that... I know it's simple/weird, but f,f,f motions are so unnatural in most fighting games that a lot of people aren't used to it. Especially at the speed required.

with Garou, it's all about just defending. I.e. pressing back before an attack hits to regain a bit of health AND giving you an opportunity to counter attack. if you get your just defend game right, you'll give yourself a major advantage against other opponents.

next would be proper use of your a+b overhead attack. with proper prediction, you can hit a downed opponent expecting a sweep with this move for added minor damage.

also keep in mind that if you press down + ab you doa different move altogether that usually has a low hit property ( there are exceptions)

special move cancelling is really important to getting big combos. it's done the same for each character (ab when doing a special move) but only certain special moves have it.
example: jenet's qcf +k can be cancelled after the short jump. terry's dp +d can be cancelled, but it needs to be done quick.

if you want I can teach you more through playing (combos, strategies and stuff) if you're up for it. all i ever really play on ggpo is MOTW

sadly and scarily that's 90% of what I hear people say. I talk to friends of mine who don't play fighters and ask why they tend to not enjoy them. 90% of the answers I get fall in the "you ahve to memorize so much...", while I can agree with later games such as Tekken and Virtua Fighter (note: i agree sightly only since it's more about learning game mechanics then it is actually learning moves) they have no excuse for games like street fighter and such.

Probably the simplicity of MvC2 moves made it very popular to a wide audience. I mean how can anyone forget QCF+1+2? too easy.

in the end it's almost like how outside media is oblivious to gaming, except it's gamers oblivious to fighters >_<

Although personally I would like to see games with a lot less mechanics (*cough* Guilty Gear), the problem comes down to two things: competition and finding information to get better.

A gamer needs motivation to play a game. In a game designed to be played head-to-head between two people, the motivation is to the beat the other person.
The death of the arcade makes it hard for someone to play live people, and playing online the lag makes a huge difference. It's gotten to the point where people view the CPU as the toughest opponent. I quit playing a lot of fighting games because of this.

How does somebody improve at a skill in life? First, they need a motivator. Next, they need to see a path to improve their skill. And lastly, they practice.

The motivator comes from competition: you lose.
The path to improve is not so clear. Some people I've talked to are averse to SC, Tekken because they don't want to learn the command list, or they think they're good because they know the command list. VF4's training mode was perfect; if there are elements in your game that you are missing, chances are that it's in there. The only problem was that it was dry and not intuitive, throwing in a bunch of vocabulary and just doing straight up drills. For the most part, however, there isn't a great deal of in-game help.
Outside of the game is no better. Gamepro / EGM used to have guides in the magazines that were decent; now they're poorly written and can make players worse. The big online game sites like Gamespot and IGN are no better. And guess what, these are the sites that show up when you google "street fighter" or "virtua fighter" or "tekken."

So that leaves the players as the ones who have to spend hours writing tactics, recording videos and combos, writing guides, and doing everything they can so that MAYBE some random dude can look at it and be motivated to play. The company doesn't throw any support this way.

Yeah, it's always fun to play people that have 10+ hit combos memorized. Hit them in the mouth and their plan goes all to hell and they end up in the corner crying like little babies. They keep trying to attack with the same first move because it's the first move a bazillion hit combo and it'll take 75% percent of my life bar, like duh. I kept telling my buddy that his combo only connected once or twice in the whole time we played and he still couldn't win the match because he had that great plan to get 75% of my life bar down but then didn't know enough of the damn game to get the rest of it.

Just played a bit of Sengoku Basara X and toyed around with the Kenshin infinite. The infinite is easy as hell to do.

The current game looks similar but there are some tweaks to the animation frames that make the idle and walking animations look more natural...

This is a 3 month old build and doesn't have the true widescreen format implemented yet. The character balance is way different from the current build as well.

Ken is a BEAST in this version.

Looks like Ken can't be stopped in this one.

I got my copy of CvS2 for the GC and it doesn't play anything like the PS2 version. It's great for kids because they can pull off special moves with ease but you lose all the finer details. No footsies or pokes to soften someone up, it's just fireball spam and dragon punches all day. Looks like it'll make a good gift for my father-in-law. He only has a GC and likes to get his ass whipped in fighting games from time to time.

I played like 2 hours of the Super Street Fighter II TURBO HD Remix beta with my brother... good times. Unlike a lot of people, I am lucky that my brother is always nearby for competition in ANY fighting game. He has natural instincts and killer reflexes. Always makes for a good learning experience.

It was fun playing the same game with new tricks... slowly using new tactics/exploits and refining the way we play was fun. Reversal/wakeup Shoryus are SO easy now... Good thing Ken can't get his wakeup shoryu to combo unless at a specific wall/character situation...

Ken landing anti meaty mp dp x 2 into dizzy corner into jumping fierce, standing fierce, fierce shoryu...
= call it a night!

muahaha, those screens look hilarious to me for some reason. Just a wacky concept. I think it could have had potential in 2d, if done in a Guilty Gear kinda way (the characters are far fetched enough/have enough random powers that it would prolly have worked)

Damn I'm pissed.... I only got to play about 5 matches of SSF2HD beta, because I forgot my TV and was using my buddies internet connection. Now I'm sitting around with nothing to play. I did get a USB pad for 3 dollars from Wal-Mart. It definately would be horrendous for fighting games, but it works well with SNES emulator

3+ hours each way, and I drive a Ford Explorer so gas is fucking KILLING me. I do think I'm going to Baltimore for the 4th of July weekend though, so I'll stop at home (Philly) on my way back up to school though and pick that ish up. Living without a TV is so hard.


Also, that Castlevania game looks horrendously terrible. Like, it's gonna be really bad. REALLY bad.
