Is it wrong if this crap + the horrible trailer makes me want to actually get the game?
Here seems to be the list of other games it has ripped from:
Silent Hill
Unreal Tournament 2004
Thief: Deadly Shadows
Painkiller
Diablo
Return to Castle WolfensteinThey also ripped a Wraith bust from WETA workshop and sequence from the Spawn movie where Spawn is first sent to hell (2:40 in the trailer)... just wow.

Interview with the Project Director:
http://www.quandaryland.com/jsp/dispArticle.jsp?index=795
Some highlights:
Gordon: So have any more recent games influenced your current project?
Steve: The project is more influenced by film and literature rather than other games, we want the experience to be as original as possible and as such we have made a calculated effort to keep away from other games in the genre. Limbo of the Lost is an experience first and foremost, secondly wrapped up in a game media and genre.
Gordon: During the long gestation for this game, what sort of changes have you made to bring it up to date.
Steve: All of the game (apart from initial background story and some character designs) had to be re-written, all the characters had to be created in 3D and animated, all the background scenes re-created, all the sounds, coding and music?..basically everything had to be redone or newly created for the PC version. This is not an old game that has been dressed up. This is the original concept, dusted off and re-created.
Gordon: Finally, is there anything more about the game you'd like to share with us, and do you have any more projects on the drawing board?
Steve: I could talk about this project for hours but I would prefer you to play, experience and enjoy it, so I will hush up for now. But before I say a fond farewell I will tell you this much, If anyone can honestly tell me after playing the game that they did not have an enjoyable gaming experience or have a favorite character that they have met whilst playing the game, I will never mention or speak of the sequel — LIMBO of the LOST II — Temptations of Tarot.

Tri Synergy, Inc. would like to publish an official comment regarding recent comparisons of level design and artwork between Majestic Studios’ Limbo of the Lost and Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion/Eidos Interactive’s Thief: Deadly Shadows.
Tri Synergy is just as shocked as everyone else is by the recent screenshot comparisons. At no point during our dealings with Majestic Studios up until the point that the comparison was first publicly made by a third party did we have any knowledge of these similarities. Additionally, Tri Synergy will discontinue distribution of Limbo of the Lost in both retail and online outlets.
We have contacted the developer, Majestic, and are anxiously awaiting their response. As soon as we know more on this matter we will issue another statement.

More drama
From GameFaqs:
Turns out this guy Steve Bovis stretched the truth when he talked about remaking the game for PC out of code he developed a decade earlier... He doesn't know HOW to code!
Bovis used a recently-released free indie game software called "Wintermute" for the entire game. It's a great program that allows you to design complex adventure games with basic coding knowledge. The thing is, Steve Bovis has about twenty long threads on the Wintermute forums asking help for EVERYTHING! Animation, NPC interaction, video files, applying fonts, even how to get the cursor to change. If you read between the lines, you see Steve may have been subtley asking the Wintermute community to send him the exact scripts he needed, and in most cases he got them. Which means that Limbo of the Lost was programmed quite a bit by members of the Wintermute community, yet credit for the game only went to three people.
What really puzzles me is, how could you have designed a nearly completed adventure game in the mid-90's, and not know how to do the basics of the basics today? I've learned answers to some of the questions this guy was asking simply by trying to mod Oblivion. There was one reply he got where the poster said many of his NPC animation switching problems could be solved by using variables of "if", and Steve still asked if he could send a specific example, as though he didn't know the meaning of "if" in scripting. Makes me wonder if the unfinished LoLs for the Atari and Amiga were ever meant to be finished at all.

Yeah, that's if anyone ever finds them. Their publisher (who has dropped the game) has been trying to contact them, but it turns out that they're "on vacation." In other words, they've skipped town with their up-front check, and no one is ever going to hear from them again.

Haha... that's pretty damn funny. I guess they figured nobody would ever notice.
Actually, I think they DID expect people to notice. Think about it, if they had simply stolen from one title they might have gone unnoticed. But the fact that they stole from just about every major title possible, including films, seems to imply this was done on purpose, including the game title's acronym. Now they've simply skipped town?
I think they just pulled one of the biggest scams in media history, keenly aware the entire time what they were up to and what the reaction would be.
It is actually pretty funny. The fallout from this should be interesting.

An intriguing conspiracy theory - but what is their gain? Did Trisynergy cut them a check for the rights to profit from distribution of the game?
I will admit, from the photo these guys look like they're straight out of central casting for the next Guy Ritchie film.

A call for a 2D/3D background artist for a LoL sequel, from a few days ago: http://forum.dead-code.org/index.php?topic=2904.msg18305#msg18305
Claim:
I am on the look out for a 2D/3D background artist for the sequel to LIMBO OF THE LOST. This is a % of royalty position for the right person.
The backgrounds need to be in 1024x768 resolution and the end result is a static 2D image.
Other parts of the job will be for alpha masks and layers within the scenes. Approx 80 backgrounds will be needed, if you can construct in 3D using an editor like Unreal 3 etc all the better.
The reality:
I am on the look out for a person to do some screengrabs of well-known retail games to use as backgrounds for the sequel to LIMBO OF THE LOST. This is a % of the up-front check from the publisher for the right person, before we all liquidate our assets and bank accounts, change our names and identities, and catch a flight to Rio.
Other parts of the job will be asking for users on the dead-code forums to basically code the game for you, even though the Wintermute Engine is only about as difficult as Click-and-Play. Approx 80 printscreens will be needed, if you can printscreen from Unreal Engine 3 games all the better.

I honestly want the game, i am a fan of adventures and the idea of this coming from so many different games is awesome. The reviewers at Just adventure also mentioned d(months ago) that the game felt as though it was made by 5 different people (the 5-6 levels each created separately). It still scored pretty well at 80% though.
This is just way too awesome. I must play it.
The other cool thing is the book that came out in the 70's with the same name...:
"The Bermuda Triangle, one of the great unsolved mysteries of our time. More than a thousand people, over a hundred ships and planes, swallowed up into the sea without a trace. "
This could be an awesome scandal. If they would now release it as freeware and give all the money back, could they clear themselves? Or give all the profits to the 5 companies they stole from?

Plus, what's up with that character named "Cranny $$$$$$"

Nope. It's real.
If they would now release it as freeware and give all the money back, could they clear themselves?
Nope. It's still copyright infringement, even if it's not-for-profit.
And I'm also pretty sure that they're guilty of some pretty major fraud against their publishers (Trisynergy and G2 games, both of which are completely legit publishers, outside of this debacle). So, even if Bethesda, Epic, Blizzard, Disney, Eidos, EA/Crytek, Konami, id, DreamCatcher, Activision, and New Line Cinema were to all magically forgive them and not press charges, I'm pretty sure their publishing contracts have some clause stating that, ya know, the game not contain any unlicensed intellectual property.
What we have here is called a "Publicity Stunt". No way this could all could be real.
Nope. It's real, man.

I didn't notice anything out of place while working on the music. I had written descriptions about the levels and I based my music on those. I never saw any of the levels before I got my own boxed copy of the game. I haven't ever played most of the games the graphics were stolen from, so I doubt I would have ever noticed anything odd by myself.
I did compose the music for DVD main feature (it can be found on YouTube) but at last minute Majestic Studios decided to replace my music with something that "would better appeal to younger audience", so what you hear in that YouTube clip is NOT my music. To my knowledge it was made by Lawrence Francis, the person who was credited for music in the game.
I saw early versions of all the bonus DVD content when I was composing music to them but it never occurred to me that some of the visuals are stolen from elsewhere. Also after I was done with my part, they still did some changes (mainly additions) to those clips. That is the reason the music seems so out of place in the clips in YouTube.

Way to fucking half-ass developing a game half-assed.

It basically confirms it: this whole game is a huge, huge joke on the entire gaming populous. There is simply no other explaination.

Looks to me like they were trying to rip on the "song-as-ending" effect as seen in Portal. I'd say we're lucky that they didn't just steal that and have it playing over the "credits."

Monkey Island 2 is up there with it was aaaalll just a dreeeeam, and those just suck when you think about it..
This is just jaw droppingly "what did I just watch?".

Monkey Island 2 is up there with it was aaaalll just a dreeeeam, and those just suck when you think about it..
Now that's debatable.
There's enough evidence to suggest it wasn't a dream at all, and instead that you're under some kind of hallucination/curse from LeChuck.
And yet, there's basically just as much evidence to suggest it was indeed a dream/mass imagination of young Guybrush. When I beat it, I remember seeking out any and all discussions/websites devoted to the ending as I could find, and a lot of them chronicle just how much there is to suggest the "dream" dynamic - the water pump that makes the waterfall, the underground ending scene that really suggests Disneyworld's real-life underground tunnels, the fact that the very last scene in the game matches up perfectly in terms of structure/building placement as one of the islands (where the spit contest took place), etc. Pretty fascinating when you think about it.
Since Ron Gilbert wasn't involved in MI3 or MI4, and since he's off doing other projects now, and since there's probably no chance he'll ever get his hands on the license/rights again, he probably won't ever reveal where he was going with the story. Besides, this far away from the conclusion of MI2, it could end up being a Star Wars prequel problem that George Lucas had, where it looked and sounded like he just made shit up the weekend before they started shooting episode one.
I'd really like to find out that Gilbert does actually have a script/idea for MI3, especially if it concluded the series and brought some closure.
But then again, I'd love for that to happen with Loom too, and that's probably never happening.
Shit, as long as we're on the subject, give me DoTT 2 - I'd like to find out what happened to Purple Tentacle.
Sigh, so many cliffhangers.
As for LOL, I hope the original trickles out somewhere in the midst of all this controversy. I kind of want to buy a copy off eBay too...

I wouldn't make it to the end to laugh at this again. Having an absolutely non-existent tolerance to first hand creepy things, I'd probably lose it pretty early in, but the thing that really kills me is, when I watched the gameplay: it's slow. It's slow as molasses in January. The guy literally moves like he's dragging an anchor behind him. Then I turn around for a second and when I look again, there's a running skeleton ghosted over him. He's not dead or in danger or anything, it's just there. He didn't touch anything, there's no point at all, someone just thought that the ghost of a skeleton (uh?) should suddenly appear on top of him. I gave up at that point.

It's official, these guys are just stupid (http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6192856.html).
In response to the shocking notification that some alleged unauthorized copyrighted materials submitted by sources external to the development team have been found within the PC game Limbo of the Lost, we (the development team) have given our consent and full cooperation to both publishers who are recalling all units from all territories immediately.
Please be assured that we do not condone in anyway the use of unauthorized copyrighted materials and if we had been made aware earlier, we would of course have ceased development of the product and rectified the issue prior to the publication process.
To the best of our knowledge no one at Majestic, [European publisher] G2Games or [North American publisher Tri Synergy, Inc.] knew about this infringement and knowingly played any part in it.
We can only apologise to all regarding this issue, as a team we are shocked and mortified regarding these events and we continue to work with said publishers in order to rectify the issue.

So where does that leave us? If the publisher was in the dark, and the developer was in the dark, then who made this damn game? The Janitor? Did I seriously just read that the DEVELOPER of the game OUTSOURCED IT to a THIRD (FOURTH?) PARTY?
You know, I understand that the Publisher is sort of the middle man to help the developer get the game to the market, but if you're a developer and you're not actually making the game, what the fuck do they need you for?
Are you seriously telling me that an entire development studio was answering phone calls and printing papers between the publisher and some guy coding in his basement?

Someone posted it because if you look at the background, it doesn't change (and it's from Oblivion), it zooms in on the wall beside them instead of looking at the opposite wall.
And I laugh whenever I see it because of how he slaps his hat off, and the imp's expression as he stumbles away is just priceless.
