Problem is, there was nothing that was like FUCKIN ZOMG AWESOME like DMC4, NG2, or MGS4.

Yeah, I have to agree there. In 07 I liked Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, R&C:FTOD, Bio Shock, Mass Effect, and more I'm probably forgetting. 08 has already blown 07 out of the water IMO, since there are more games I have enjoyed a lot more. Like the three above you mentioned for starters. ;)

Vagina In A Bottle. there you go.

in terms of where the ast thread left off... 2007 was not the best year in gaming IMHO, just alot of big names. I say this too since a large number of the big name games I really didn't give a rats ass about. I think the only large one I loved was Mass Effect. and yeah, portal was cute, but never really blew my mind.

2008 is going to be the year I think will be better for gaming (for myself at least), seeing as I actually care about quite a few of the big titles. GTAIV, MGS4, Little Big Planet, Home (yes, I want home like a horny bitch), etc.

Yeah, ZOE2 still looks fantastic, so it would be insane to see what he could do with the PS3.

I didn't buy a single game for PS3 in 2007 except Warhawk and I played that for about a week before the gameplay just didn't hold up anymore when I could be playing Gears instead.

Now in 2008 I have already bought MLB '08: The Show and GTA IV. I also bought Motorstorm this year. I'm going to get Metal Gear Solid 4 soon. And some big hitters are coming that are the real reasons I bought PS3: like Tekken 6, LittleBigPlanet, Socom, and Resistance 2.

It's on my list of games to buy this summer. Once I clean up my backlog.

:360: Devil May Cry 4, King Kong, LOST, Lost Planet, Mass Effect, Orange Box, The Darkness, Tony Hawk Project 8.

:ps3: Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear Solid 4, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, Time Crisis 4, Uncharted.

Does anyone have a witty MGS4 Quote so I can switch the title?

To me, 2008 was the best gaming year in awhile due to one little...big game, Super Mario Galaxy.

I'm really enjoying MGS4...I REALLY really am, but not nearly as much as I enjoyed SMG. Playing that game was just nonstop gaming nirvana for me.

But of course that's just my opinion. If it weren't for SMG, I'd probably agree though. MGS4 is just that awesome.

If y'all are thinking 2007 was "meh", it's only because 2008 has been an incredible year so far. 2007 was a great year for gaming and '08 has only shown that the current gen was just getting started.

Then again, it's hard not to have a spectacular year when GTAIV and MGS4 are part of it...

I didn't think it was "meh" at all, it was a good year but thus far 08 for me already is better then 07. Especially when GTA IV, MGS4, DMC4, and NGII are all on my shelf. ;) Anyway I think I'm going to start up some MGS4, then switch off to NGII, then back to MGS4, then fuck a bitch, then back to NGII.

Eh, I'm not really joking, though they weren't "meh." A couple awesome games make it hard for me to claim a year as "best evar" though I suppose it could be.

But in the long run there are only a handful of amazing games over the course of a generation, so if you just want to pick the year when the best one was released as the greatest, works for me.

Yes, I'm hard to impress.

Just a matter of what you like.

Metroid Prime 3, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4 and Mass Effect were all awesome IMO. Among the best games I've ever played. Mario Galaxy and Halo 3 were damn good as well, but not quite as good.

Yet I don't care much for DMC4 or NG2 since I'm not big into action games--I do want to play thorugh NG2 after playing the demo, but I'm in no rush.

MGS I've never been into. Can't deal with the silly story, tons of cutscenes and most of all I loathe stealth gameplay. I don't like going slow and sneaking around, I like to play games where you just shoot the shit out of everything all the time.

I have to say though, since I got used to the controls I really like it more then when I first started. First off , although I'm a bit late saying it , but happy b-day daroga.:applause:

Second , Relento , I saw the thing about megaman and I'm really hoping that turns out to be true. About the 3 biggest things I want from the megaman series at this point are Megaman 9 , Megaman Gameboy Collection (perviously known as megaman mania) and Megaman X9 , in that order. I'm a huge megaman fan and hate how both of the previous series never got proper conclusions. I'd alos like to see a megaman legends 3 , but not until the other three things happen.

Lastly , since tvs were brought up , any good suggestions for a good budget hdtv? Also a good dvd player/recorder (doesn't have to be budget).

Wow, so we went shopping again tonight and I was looking at the 120hz TVs. I dunno, I don't think that should really be a selling point. It gives everything their weird, fake vibe. They had a Pirates of the Caribbean demo going split screen. Motion on the 120hz side looked like it was all in-game-engine from a video game, or semi poorly done CG in a movie, even though it was all very obviously just people moving around on camera. I guess I'm not sure why anyone would want to pay more money for that...

Maybe gonna throw in some Burnout Paradise here since I beat NG2 (soooooo good) this afternoon. Anyone know what the cheapest way to get a 360 and a non-Wified PS3 to be wified? I'm sure as heck not buying MS's $100 adapter; I know there's cheaper methods but I've not looking into them before.

Sure. Why not. I wasit a good 7 hours in line, got my autograph in 45 minutes, and then explored San Francisco for the rest of the day before I went home. It's always fun to go to the City.

You know who is a REAL patriot?

my head almost exploded when Big Mamma told you everything about the Patriots. I never expected them of all people to be the founding members of the Patriots... especially Para-Medic.

Also, did any of you play around with the ipod? It seems one of the songs makes Sunny dance while you pause the game, I have to admit it's sickenly cute to watch. I'll need to double check the name of the song when I get the chance.

Well, the thing is, it isn't a one trick pony. Even if you only play MGS4, you still have one of, if not the best Blu Ray players on the market. So if you are only interested in MGS4, maybe, if you are a huge fan of MGS. But there are other games out there on the PS3 that will make you enjoy your purchase further than just MGS4.

I'm around 10hrs in and just started act 2. I am taking the game really slow, and trying different things in each situation to see how it works out. I have to say my view on the game has changed a lot since I put more play time into it last night. It definitely changed my first impressions on it for sure. Like at the start of act 2 where (Not a huge spoiler)The PMC's have the rebels all laying face down on the ground. My first attempt I ran down there to save them, and they got killed. So I did it again and whipped out my Sniper gun and was able to save all the Rebels. So it just goes to show that you can handle each situation differently.

Well Once I shot the PMC's over top of the rebels and started dropping the other PMC's near by, the Rebels got up and said "quick grab the guns!" (That the PMC's dropped) and they grabbed them and started shooting PMC's as well. I think one Rebel died but the rest lived. The funny thing is the PMC's had no clue where I was since I sniped from the very top of that mini cliff thing. After that was done, I jumped down and they thanked me for helping them and they stayed there and patrolled the area. So, not really much changed other then instead of it being deserted they stood guard there. I still think it was pretty cool how it played out differently.

Will MGS4 be good enough to change my mind, I guess only time will tell.

Hmm, when looking, they now have colored HDMI cables. I'm so tempted to buy a red one. ;)

Last night I played some PSP. Had no issues when playing Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2, but ran into some problems with Tales of the World: RM (first off, Home screen randomly popped up, and another time, it stopped loading at a Now Loading). The reason I haven't sent my PSP in yet is that I want to play it more, to assure there are problems. I'll most likely send it in July.

Do I need one of these 1.3a certified ones ?Monoprice is really quick, since they send USPS first class. I ordered Wii component cables via Paypal on a Thursday and got them on Saturday.

As far as HDMI cables are considered, I'm honestly not sure, so I hope someone else in the GGT answers it. I believe it is better (PS3 does have HDMI 1.3). I know for sure my HDMI cable from monoprice isn't HDMI 1.3, and mine has been fine (been using it for over a year).
Resistance demo makes me not want to buy it. Is the aiming really that clunky? Is the it really that easy to get killed all the time?

Uncharted though.. wow.I found aiming to not really be the issue with Resistance. Demo is okay, but full version is better. I do not recommend buying it until cheap (It needs to go cheaper too, since it's still quite expensive).

Uncharted is excellent. My favorite game last year. Full game is way better than the demo too.
Trading in the 360 tomorrow for a fresh PS3 and one copy of Metal Gear Solid 4. Can't wait. :D How much will a used 360 fetch at GameStop?
Not much at Gamespot (I believe it only gets less than $200). I'd just trade the 360 in for a PS3, but then go back and eventually buy a new 360 when you get money (the reason for this logic is if the Jasper 360 consoles hit a little later this year, picking one of those up would be good).

Got to Act 5 now in MGS4. The end part of Act 4 was so awesome.

I've been thinking about what my next PS3 purchase and I've narrowed it down to Uncharted, NG Sigma, or DMC4. However, I probably won't pick up any for a couple months. I've still got GTA IV to work on, but I think I'm gonna jump into FES as soon as I've beaten MGS4. And FFTA is coming to the DS next week, and FF IV next month. Plenty to keep me busy for most of the summer.

I'm hoping there will be some good end-of-summer clearance deals, or I'll probably wait for price drops (which usually happen as we get closer to the winter holidays.)

Can anyone recommend a decently priced TV stand? The TV we're getting is 39" wide (horizontal), so probably a touch above 40" would be good, but I'd rather not waste a lot of space on it. Actually, just to clarify, there is "standard" and "high speed" HDMI cable with the former tested for 75Mhz (1080i) and the latter 340Mhz (1080p and higher).

http://www.racksandstands.com/Atlantic-63335223-AL0217.html

I think based on gunm's link that 14 gauge would be more than sufficient for the setup. Actually, 16 would probably be fine too, but I'm going for middly of the road with this setup, as opposed to the low end of my current gear. The wire is never going to be longer than 25' even if it takes the long way around from the far back speaker to the amp. Thanks for that little chart. :)

Those work well. I have an open TV stand I bought at Target that has a the wire catcher holes in the back. It hides the wires pretty well, keeps everything open so it doesn't overheat (looking at you 360!) and is pretty sturdy and matches my TV very well. Mines a good bit smaller than the one you linked too though. Mines a little less than the width of my 50" TV (but wider than the foot of the TV which sits on the stand) and just has 3 shelves--2 glass ones and the wooden bottom one.

The thing that annoys me with that design is that they ate so much space off of the shelves with those legs. The 360 and PS3 could barely sit side by side (to say nothing of ventilation) on that shelf. The receiver would have to be on its own, or just with the Wii. Just a weird design choice.

Thanks for the link, though, and I'm glad it works well for you! :)

I hate driving so much. It's hard. Driving in video games is so much easier and more fun. I wish that's how driving was like.

Anyway, played MGS4 for a little today. I've played Act 2 for a bit. Hope to beat Act 2 tomorrow or Wednesday.

I did play NG2 demo. Combat definitely feels smoother, which I definitely like. One thing I do not like is pressing the L trigger to block. Feels too weird (I'm use to pressing L1 to block, which felt the most natural to me).

I feel the exact opposite for driving... I feel that video games have made driving in real life MUCH easier. Although I'd never recommend it... I can drive, text message, play a DS/PSP game all at the same time.

And regarding block in NG2, isn't block the same as it was in NG? I first played NG at launch, but I seem to recall it was the same setup control wise?

I didn't play NG much on Xbox. I rented the game around release, couldn't make it past the 2nd boss, so I decided not to buy it (I did buy Otogi though). Great game, but my problem is that when a game gets too hard, I give up because I have way too many games to play anyway.
