After finishing The Darkness, I found alot of ingame cutscenes to be top notch mainly because it was nothing that I expected (in a good way of course).

Final Fantasy VIII: Opening Scene

From Metal Gear Solid 4... Don't click unless you've beaten the game yet.

The pseudo gameplay/cutscenes for the final battle between Ocelot and Solid Snake. Honorable mention also goes out to the Act 3 sequence from the chase to the very end...

Other highlights for me:

- Kazuya's Tekken 2 ending
- Onimusha 3's opening cinematic
- Resident Evil Code: Veronica Wesker vs Alexia
- Resident Evil 2 final few cutscenes
- Zone of the Enders 2 climax

The intro from bioshock. I had just built a computer last summer and the graphics were amazing for me. I was immediately immersed into a game I heard of one day before release and bought the next morning. I remember the original ps1 resident evil cut scenes being memorably bad. And now that I'm playing through MGS4, I'm sure a few new favorites will appear.

I have to agree with most things said so far about mgs4/mgs3/ff8/darkness.

Final Fantasy VIII is still my favorite RPG simply for it's music/storyline and cut scenes. Here's a few: (keep in mind this game came out in early 1999, nearly 10 years ago)

Hmm. Lotsa good ones out there. The opening of Deus Ex. The whole "Aeris" thing. The behind-closed-doors fight between Guybrush Threepwood and Fester Shinetop (Use. Use gopher repellant. Use gopher repellant with gopher.). Marle bringing Crono back to life. Zant's tongue thing in Twilight Princess.

Fire Emblem 9's "Greil Vs The Black Knight" was pretty good, but would have been better without Ike.

I'll second the vote for Soul Reaver's cutscenes. I don't think that series actually had any memorable action sequences --despite being about superpowered dimension-hopping vampires-- but the drama ranks among the best in video games in terms of dialogue and delivery. Soul Reaver was a clear, winning example of substance over style, a polar opposite of Metal Gear Solid 2.

Didn't have time to post it, but here is the unfathomably good introduction of Letz Shake and Henry. Unlike my other number one pick, the death of the Overmind, you don't have to have played the game to appreciate the scene. If you have not done the Letz Shake fight - I think he's ranked #5 - but intend to do so, you absolutely should not watch, as the spoilers contained herein will melt your face.

Were it not for the fact that this is a "favorite" thread and not a "best" thread, I would be vehemently against Xenosaga. The game incensed me with its disregard for pacing (worse even than the MGS series) and the meandering drivel that passed for a story certainly didn't help either. At least Xenogears was a beautiful mess.

The problem is that not enough people ever really played that game. I think I've met two people who've played it, and all of eight people who've even heard of it (even after Bioshock came out). I never came close to finishing it and by the time I meant to go back to the game I couldn't run it anymore on my newer computers. :cry:
