I was considering getting one of the two versions. However, should I got with the cheaper original or pay $10 (?) extra for the second. Is there any big changes?

2 has online play. You can also get the first one off the playstation store for $11, though you won't get a physical copy of it if you like having one.

If you're new to the series or eventually want to have both at some point, I would recommend getting the first one. Regular price at Best Buy is $15. It should keep you busy while you wait for a price drop on the second one.

I picked up HS1 @ Target for $4.98 last week. I stopped by yesterday to check for any price drops, there was still 1 copy remaining. I think they clearanced them out when 2 was released.
