Decision Time: Top Spin Tennis 3 next week - Wii or PS3 version?

Obviously I have Wii Sports (Wii) and I have Virtua Tennis (PS3). Like both. Undecided which version I want to buy next week. Gimme feedback! I've read one or two of the previews and I guess if I'm leaning one way or the other it would be...to the PS3 version maybe?

Anyone else in the same dilemma? Which way are you going to go?

Can't buy both cuz I need to save money for Civ: Revolution 2 weeks later.

Basically, it comes down to whether or not the Wii controls 'work'. If they do, and you decide that's the sort of game you want, go with it. If they don't, or you decide you just want a normal tennis game, get the PS3 version.

I remember back with Sega Superstars Tennis, I was repeatedly told that the Wii version was slightly superior... but I just wanted a normally controlled tennis game, so I got for 360.

Got to make your own decisions sometimes. ;)

I was going to bring up SST, which is actually *better* on the Wii, (though preferences are more important, of course), so it's worth waiting until reviews hit to see which version gets the nod -- you just never know.

Keep in mind that Top Spin 3 has a new control scheme that departs from parts 1 and 2 and Virtua Tennis. In other words, while early word is good, the controls on PS3 are still not a "done deal." Is there even a demo out? I might wait for that.

Thanks everyone...I am still leaning towards the PS3 version. But I'm going to lay back and see if any new reviews hit next week with release that address the controls. Online play does give PS3 the nod too.

Well, then. Fuck that game.Maybe it's better and more deep? Tennis games are always fun...for the first day or two, then you learn the A.I. patterns and easily dominate. A deeper, harder control scheme could remedy that a bit.

True. I think I still have a copy of TS2 - if the reviews on the controls are good, and the play more complex, then I may give it a try.

That said, I'm down with the OP's dilemma. This is the sort of game I think about when determining PS3 or Wii. I'd never buy a golf game on PS3, for example, but if anyone ever gets it right (Super Swing and Tiger Woods have been uninspired so far - can't anyone just rip off the Wii Sports setup?), then I'm on it like neckbone.

Same goes for a good tennis game.

I would still rather just use a Analog stick and buttons instead of the "mimic a tennis swing" thing. I played a 3 and a half hour long game of real tennis a week ago, and was a gimp for the next 3 days. I really wouldn't want to feel the same way after playing a "relaxing" videogame.

Damn. I forgot about this. I'm sure VIrtua Tennis 4 (whenever that comes out) will be far, far superior, but I'll pick this one up (360).

You're probably right, and this definitely wouldn't be of any importance to me. Controls will be key, and I suspect they've put a lot of time into making sure their first few Wii games control well. I could be wrong, but if I had both systems I think I would still lean towards Wii. Tennis games on normal consoles have never really done it for me.

This is an excellent point. The Wii version will probably hold it's price a little longer thanks to higher sales (if nothing else due to a larger install base) as that seems to have been the case with a few other games.

this is true...$20 is all I gave for Virtua Tennis 3 back in February at Target.

I'd actually expect it to sell less. Most of the Wii userbase is probably fine with Wii Tennis.

Fans of the Virtua Tennis/Top Spin series are probably PS3/360 gamers since I don't think those games have ever been on a Nintendo Console (can't recall any on the Gamecube)
