I have read a lot of things about people not being able to justify paying for a PS3 to play Metal Gear Solid 4. I will admit, I caved and got one for the soul purpose and it was completely worth it for many reasons.
Aside from the great game it is, being able to play another Metal Gear game again makes me feel like a kid again. Let’s face it, Metal Gear is one of the last of a classic, relatively unchanged video game series. It isn’t like a Final Fantasy game where every one is dramatically different. At its core, it is the same espionage fun I had back in 1997 when I first picked up MGS. I was just as excited last week to pick up MGS4 as I was to grab MGS2 in grade 10 and MGS3 in my first year of University. I cannot tell you the last time I was this excited about a game before.
I think many of you can agree with me that gaming has dramatically changed. The simple excitement of a new adventure, those simple pleasures that made gaming as a kid exciting as hell has been overshadowed by graphics and multiplayer.
I’ve played as Master Chief, Niko Belik and Marcus Fenix, but even 10 years later, crackly old Solid Snake still beats them all. I give props to Metal Gear Solid 4 for giving me a gaming experience that makes me feel like a kid again and gives me the excitement and the adventure I can hardly find in games anymore.
