Dark Cloud 3 In The Works?

If you're supposed to take rumors with "a grain of salt", this would probably require you to ingest so much salt you'll melt away like a slug. Not only does Italian magazine PSMania claim that Level 5 is working on White Knight Story in tandem with development on Dark Cloud 3, they claim it's being developed as a PlayStation 3 exclusive for release in March of 2009 (http://www.psbeyond.com/news/Rumor-Dark-Cloud-3-being-developed-for-PS3-exclusively.657.html), using the new "Kumo Engine". While this is great news, we're skeptical Level 5 would be working on their new, ambitious IP while also hacking away at another beloved franchise. Take this how you want, but we hope it's got some truth to it. Dark Cloud is a pretty underrated franchise.

If this is true I will be the happiest gamer in the world. Dark Cloud 2 is one of my favorite games ever, so hopefully there is truth to this rumor. :bouncy:

It's actually an old rumor (this was mentioned long ago). All I gotta say is we'll see. I'd love to see it, but I'm going to wait and see.

Dark Cloud 2 was one of the best PS2 games in my opinion. The original was fun, but there were just too many characters to keep them all leveled evenly so once you got to one of those later levels that only let you use a specific character, you'd have to go back and spend an hour getting them strong enough.

yea it makes no sense for anyone in Japan or Europe to call the game Dark Cloud 3 as DC2 is released as Dark Chronicle

Well if you look at the translation of the original article, it only says a "new Dark Cloud game." They would probably call it Dark Cloud 2 :lol:

I remember playing the first DC... and kept wondering if I was playing Zelda for some reason. I can't remember exactly why but I think it was because the main character seemed too much like Link.

DC had that cool mechanic where you could build the towns up through time, the character designs were really neat, and it was pretty straightforward. Also that great fishing game! Plus the ending was great.

DC2 puts 5 billion items in your inventory that you arbitrarily fit together for relatively useless new items, the level layouts were confusing as hell and the characters were annoying (especially the one you played) Plus that cel shaded look was done so poorly, the underrated XIII really nailed cel shading - if you can't do it like that then I say don't bother.

I liked the original DC. I just hated how the weapons broke and were lost forever. That seriously pissed me off. I'm glad they changed that in DC2. I always liked the town building aspect as well.

I didn't like DC2 mainly due to the characters, they pretty much killed the game for me.

Also Level 5 really hasn't made an RPG with a great story (IMO) now that I think about it. I hope they work on that.

Huh? DC was terrible, and DC2 was an amazing game.I have to agree there. I hated the first big time. I was shocked the 2nd turned out good. I ended up renting and being VERY impressed. Never beat it, but it was great.

i played DC 1, and it wasn't that bad, and had an original idea and a good execution, but... DC 2 was a complete failure in my eyes and strayed away from the original idea.

Yeah I really enjoyed DC2. I liked the story, the characters, and all the weapons. It's been a very long time since I played it though. Maybe it sucks ass now, I don't know, but IMO it was a good improvement over the first game.
