Not really big into shojo, although I did really enjoy Honey and Clover. Nodame Cantabile was also ok but would've been better served if some of the characters weren't so annoying...the gay guy especially (not because he was gay, I have nothing against that, it's just that the character was too whiny and over the top for my liking). Loved Nodame's character, though.

Man, i'm getting tired of When They Cry. 16 eps in. The series wouldn't be too bad if it were a series of chapters involving different characters. I know they introduce a few new ones each time, but when the story hits a climax and the chapter ends, its a hugely unsettling feeling seeing the new chapter start and everyone's all happy & cheery.
Its getting close to the repetitiveness of Hell Girl. But at least WTC actually shows the murder happening.

I just finished Sailor Stars a couple days ago. It felt a little sad seeing the 完 at the end since Sailor Moon was my second anime like a dozen years ago (preceeded by Voltron). I checked eBay for the manga real quick last night, and the complete set was going for $500 and it wasn't even mint.

I am in neither of those two categories. CCS doesn't seem to be going for that much (aside for one listing for a "first pressing" with a BIN price for $750). The few singles I see are only going for $15-ish.
Maybe I should try to unload my first pressing DVDs for $600.

I hadn't watched any anime in 3 years until a couple weeks ago (Fullmetal Alchemist was just finishing up when I moved from Louisiana, that had been my last anime until 2 weeks ago). I started with Code Geass, which was pretty good. Now I'm trying Naruto Shippuuden, on ep 32 and it sucks. NOTHING happens. It's soooo slow. And really predictable. You can see what's going to happen 3 or 4 episodes in advance. I often just scroll through an entire episode in 2-3 minutes, and can understand every single thing that happened.
I need something faster paced... and smarter.

If you like Code Geass, you may want to give Death Note a try. The first 2/3 of the Death Note anime was great, the final 1/3 was awful imho, and I've heard the manga also started to fall apart right around that point. Something happens to a certain major character, and the show just loses its intrigue and suspense.
And for those who enjoyed Hunter X Hunter, *applauds*. One of the most underrated anime series that I have ever seen. I'm happy at least the manga was licensed in the US.

Shippuden anime is really bad IMHO. They slow it down even more (naruto is slow enough in its manga form) so that they dont have to end up doing filler sooner.
Its in filler now I think, not sure because Ive stopped watching.

So I saw Akira today. I don't really think it was that great. None of the characters were really likable, and the conflict between Tesuo and Kenada is so old and played out that it just pisses me off. I also couldn't understand what the hell was going on through most of the movie. Of course, you may say that's because I'm stupid, but you must admit that tons of questions are left unanswered. Things just happen without any explanation, and I'm left with "It's a cartoon" whenever I try to make sense of it all. Visually, the movie is awesome. One notable thing that shows in the animation is the great lip syncing, but the way the characters move when talking is quite gratuitous. The part near the end with Tesuo is probably the most disturbing thing I've seen in anime. I don't watch much, but still. All in all, I find the movie unfulfilling. The high admiration it gets just makes me feel like I'm out of the loop.
Also, yes I know I'm about 18 or so years late.

You aren't stupid, they condensed the huge manga into one two hour movie, I feel much the same way about it really, stunning animation but the story makes no damn sense. I chalk up the love the movie gets to nostalgia and it being purely hand drawn.

I started Code Geass R2 and was loving it, even better than the first season, but decided to force myself to stop because I know I'd slit my wrists if I had to watch the second half of the season one episode per week... I'm waiting until it's all out, then I'll watch everything.
I tried watching Tengen Toppa again, it still sucks. I don't understand the universal praise. A couple weeks ago I plodded through the first four boring episodes, and today I just suffered through two more... this show is boring as hell. I can tell it's still getting started, every episode introduces a new character, but everyone is boring. Everything is boring, but especially the generic characters, and since there's no real plot (yet) other than "ROOOOOBOT FIIIIGHT!!!" it's easy to criticize the generic people who shout the generic lines. I expected much more from Gainax, especially given the budget.

Read the manga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akira_(manga)). 2,000 pages of a manga as complex as Akira cannot be turned into a 2 hour movie -- at least, not a good 2 hour movie. The movie is so overrated. They changed a lot and omitted even more, a lot of scenes end up being virtually inexplicable. It's dumb. IMO.

The manga actually seems cool, but I'm not really into that sort of thing. I only watched the movie because I had recognized the name and heard it was good. I"m unfulfilled, but I have no desire to see the source material.
Seems to me like they were just using Akira as an excuse to make a visually stunning anime movie. In that case, they should have built one from the ground up. Probably would've gotten the same amount of admiration. Of course, I have no idea how big that source material was in Japan or anything.

ADV deserves to go under if they think they are going to do good by re-releasing shows like Final Fantasy Unlimited & Noir in thinpaks w/ extras at a $90 SRP. They need to take a hint from Bandai and release full release bricks with $50 SRP's. Sure, you probably wont make as much money, but better to sell a lot of less profitable boxsets than go OOB because you dumped all your resources into shitty expensive releases.
I watched the first episode of Code Geass today. I'm not much for mech shows, but this looks like it may have a lot more to offer than your standard mech show. I'm gonna be watching this during my lunch breaks the next week or so.
Koggit
06-26-2008, 11:23 PM
Yeah, I'm typically not into mech shows much either. I think the reason I like Code Geass despite finding mech battles boring is because it's more about the strategy. The actual fighting is really short -- the focus isn't on the piloting or the abilities of the robots, but rather the planning, preparation and execution of both sides' macro strategies. It's easy to excuse the boring robot combat. It reminds me a bit of Full Metal Panic in that sense.

Hah never said they made good decisions. Funny you mention FFU and Noir, both have been selling for peanuts on ebay for years. But still even if the pricing if off for re-releases they at least put the stuff out to begin with. I was looking over the ADV catalog at Rightstuf, if they do indeed go under that is a hell of a lot of stuff that will be going out of print. Hoping we get some more official news next week.

No one likes bricks. I think they should take after Media Blasters or Funi. MB released the first 5 volumes of Gaogaigar in a box for like $35. No brick, no thin pack. And, Funi is releasing those season boxes of DBZ (in before widescreen whining) and Yu Yu Hakusho boxes (thinpacks, I think) for aroubd $40 each.

I dunno about you guys, but for me the biggest problem with purchasing anime is the evidence. I sold a lot of my anime because I was embarrassed of it. The two most embarrassing series I had were Love Hina and Ranma 1/2. I sold almost everything though -- Trigun, Nadesico, Evangelion, Outlaw Star, Gokudo, Slayers, etc... at least 200 DVDs worth. I only kept the ones that I could write off as adult looking (Texhnolyze, Hajime no Ippo, Black Heaven, etc). I also kept Dragon Ball (not Z) as it was my favorite anime when I was younger, I keep Dragon Ball hidden in my closet. No joke. My porn DVDs are just on my dresser out in the open, and the Dragon Ball is hidden in the closet.
I'm not just paranoid -- this was after noticing nearly every time I had a new guest at my apartment the DVD/game collection would get a lot of attention, and they'd always be shocked by how much anime I had. They were never rude about it or anything, but I could tell they wanted to ask "...why?" It's pretty embarrassing, especially when the guest is a girl you just met.

Seriously? I don't give a fuck what people think of my hobbies. I could see if you were doing something illegal, but there's no reason to be ashamed you like anime. If anyone had a problem with it I'd remind them where the door was, and let them know they can use it at anytime. I don't care if it was a girl or not.

I proudly display 20 volumes of Cardcaptor Sakura, that's a lot of pink, yellow and baby blue. Not to mention the Sailor Moon, Wedding Peach and probably some others.

Mine is pretty much on every shelf in my computer room and if people care that much, I really don't care enough to worry about it. then again, most of my friends are also into anime to some extent, and the ones that aren't usually have just not seen anything or been exposed to something that they liked. I can usually find a series that a person can appreciate for some reason or another though. I just have to make sure not to inflict anything too terrible on them near the beginning is all. (save those for later. heheh)

Seriously? I don't give a fuck what people think of my hobbies. I could see if you were doing something illegal, but there's no reason to be ashamed you like anime. If anyone had a problem with it I'd remind them where the door was, and let them know they can use it at anytime. I don't care if it was a girl or not.
Same with my hentai DVDs and PC games. I used to keep them right on the shelf with other games and DVDs (I only now put them out of sight since I have kids...).
QFT
BTW, the ADV thing just boggles the mind. I think it was a case of getting too big for their britches with the anime club, anime channel the half-assing of their manga division, and other things. Once I read PiQ is dead, that was an ominous sign as far as I am concerned.

This. Why should anyone care? If a girl is judging Koggit based on that, it's obvious she's shallow and deserves to be treated nothing more than a cum receptacle. Besides, anime has become pretty mainstream anyway so anyone who thinks they're still for kids is still living in the 50s (even if they weren't born yet).

It's the same stigma video games used to get. Now you have people at nursing homes playing the Wii.
The closest thing I have to hentai is I Dream of Mimi, Strange Love and Sprite and those aren't that much different than your average R-rated Cinemax movie. It's just animated is all. The only hentai I ever owned was a tape of La Blue Girl. I was curious, so I bought it. No big deal as far as I am concerned. I personally wouldn't store hentai with regular titles any more than I would porn DVDs with my Jackie Chan films. I don't think there is anything wrong with adults owning them, but I wouldn't want to have family over, try to grab and pull Batman Begins and pull Boobs and Babes 5 out instead.

seeing a whole shelf full of love hina or negima, chobits, or whatever would be off-putting to most "normal" people.
Totally.
For clarification, I don't hide my penchant for the nerdy from my friends -- I just don't want it to be one of the first things they learn about me, because for most people it tends to draw certain associations (with the Otaku) that aren't fitting of who I am.
For example, I have a framed periodic table (of the elements) in my room. Most people who see it would think I'm nerdy -- but I'm perfectly okay with that, because being associated with a science nerd is fitting of who I am. The personality associations made from seeing Love Hina on my shelf is not fitting.
Essentially, the difference is that I'm not ashamed of who I am, I just don't want others to judge inaccurately.

Fantasy setting, 6 dvds, 24 episodes.
its about a princess who has a destiny to bring about the end of the world, and as an infant she had been ordered killed. Somehow she escapes that fate, and spends her time wandering the land with her companions helping out people where they can. People who are out to destroy her to stop her destiny from coming true.

that pretty much describes it. it's a fantasy/medieval setting, swords + magic. it can be light hearted but also very serious.
this is my all time favorite show for a few reasons. one, it gets better as it goes along and has a good ending. a lot of shows end abruptly with no resolution or you just start losing interest.
second, the series has believable, emotional situations. the three main characters are a family of sorts, and you really feel that in the conflicts they face. near the end i stunned at a few of the plot points. HUGE SPOILER *** when her real brother stabs her i was completely blown away. i knew it was coming, but the way it was done was breathtaking. seeing shannon's eyes when it happens... *** HUGE SPOILER
i can understand why some don't like it though. the side characters aren't fleshed out very well and the plot can feel a little disjointed or rushed at times. however i think its merits easily overcome its faults.

It's been meh recently. Code Geass is probably the only thing decent thing on, although I'm still enjoying the new Golgo 13 series but I'm biased as I've always enjoyed the series in general. This seems to be pretty much a mindless summer as all the stuff I'm seeing seems to be general shonen action & comedy. Real Drive might be a winner but it doesn't come w/ enough regularity for me to know. Ditto for Mnemosyne. Vampire Knight sounds good but looks like it falls into the general shonen category. Nabari no Ou is ok but nothing special. Shion no Ou (no relation) is pretty good but dragged a bit near the end. xxxHolic season 2 is ok but the story is dragging (though I admit the last eps. I saw was pretty good).

Wow. That was just a bizarre Geass episode. I swear, half the reason I watch this show is cause it's like a giant train wreck that doesn't know what kind of series it wants to be. It's become like the summer blockbuster movie where I just click my brain off at the beginning of an episode. Though I did like Cornelia's return. I always liked her in the first season so I like that she's back. Same thing with Jeremiah. That's another reason why this show is like a giant train wreck. Death means NOTHING. I watched a couple episodes of Soul Eater and categorized it as "kiddie Bleach."
Not that I'm a fan of the Bleach anime, but it felt like the same idea, but with a more playful tone.
It is hard to believe people are reading and enjoying Togari and Alive. I read the first volume of Togari and felt it was just another throwaway title with a poor plot. Alive had some of the worst dialogue I've ever read in manga.
These days, I only look forward to King of Thorn and Chunchu, with an update of Golgo 13 if I feel the itch. It's a shame Kamiyadori and Judas ended with so few volumes - especially since their last volumes felt a little rushed (like the anime ending to Paradise Kiss).

I think if we have more cable channels beside Cartoon Network and Sci-Fi showing anime then there is a better chance these companies won't go belly up. Granted, Geneon had a good presence on Cartoon Network, but other than Manga (thanks to Sci-Fi), Funimation and Viz no one else gets much airtime. I don't ever remember ADV on CN, and the only Media Blasters title I remember being there was Rurouni Kenshin. You would think MTV would at least try something like Beck. They tried Spiderman and Aeon Flux and other shows before.

This is a true shame, first Geneon and now this.. Poor marketing is simply killing these companies, no matter which way it is sliced. While some may cry, bootlegs did it, boots may have hurt the market, but not as bad as these business decisions. Poor selections in regards to the shows they licensed. Poor pricing strategies, especialy in regards to Geneon, 29.99 + for 3 episodes was pathetic, and now ADV's new box sets for series like Noir, and some of their olders shows for 74.99 or so, when they thin sets are still out on shelves. Also ADV's Manga, which cost us Yotsuba, and some other decent offerings as well. Also the ADV channel offers what we want to see without buying as well. Honestly, I am thankful for Bandai/Namco, Funi and Media Blasters, and hope they continue to do what they need to do to keep their companies up and running, and the anime flowing.

Single discs definitely segmented the market IMO. YOu have those who can afford to buy expensive singles or those who wait for boxsets. Unfortunately, since most shows to get on TV and get ad revenue, the singles are the only way to maximize their revenue. The ironic thing is that last year is when I started buying singles because I could afford to for once (Black Lagoon, Ergo Proxy, Haruhi) and that is when all the craziness in R1 started. Honestly, it wasn't about how expensive it was to get an entire series (though it was on the pricey side)... not being able to watch through a show at the pace I want has always been a huge issue for me. And the most annoying thing is when you have a release like Berserk or Eureka Seven where they just decide "oh, well instead of a 2 month wait, it's a 4 month wait this time." Yeah, that's a good way to keep people buying your show. Don't sell it to them. Fucking idiots.

A lot of that is because of dubs. Look at how Bandai is releasing Gurren Lagann. The first 9 episodes come out next week followed by the next set next month, and the final set the month after that. A quick and cheap release because there's no dub. The dub release is coming next year.

Yay on Geneon finally being sorta back in the game (Hellsing Ultimate Vol. 4 get?)
and as far as that Gurren Lagann set... that's interesting that it's sub only. If that's what it takes to get speedy releases, I'll take it. Better yet, without being saddled with a dub, they should be able to have PCM audio and better video quality. since space isn't being wasted.

I guess that is why only select titles were mentioned to be rescued from Geneon. All that other money was going to the ADV stuff.
I just hope Funimation isn't over-extending themselves by trying to do too much at once. Part of ADV's problem was they got too big for their britches IMO by spending like money grew on trees.

Depends on how this goes, Funimation doesn't have to re-release a lot of this stuff , Guyver and some others have been done for ages . So that leaves the incomplete series, if they buy the dubs off ADV that gives them quick and dirty releases. If Funi actually tries to redub all this stuff............ then they'll be stretching themselves super thin that's for sure. While I am happy that these titles aren't in limbo anymore it just seems like a dirty move on the Japanese license holder's part, ADV already invested time and money into this stuff, Welcome to NHK has been rumored for awhile to have wrapped up dubbing, it just needed a release.

Good series though it ends too early AND unfinished. Not spoiling anything by telling you that things are kinda left hanging in the air and more questions pop up unanswered. The ending feels like you're in the middle of the series rather than the end. This should've been around 26 eps. to fully flesh out the characters, not 12.
Oh how I wished I'd have seen this sooner. I was really loving this show and then, BAMF I have no more. I got to get more and realize there is none! NOOOOOO....WHY WAS IT CANCELLED?!?

Hey guys between Rozen Maiden, Lucky Star, and Dennu Coil which should be my next show? What are these shows like?*cough* Well, I'm completely biased about this (hint: look at my sig) but I'll tell you what they are:
Rozen Maiden: creepy Victorian age dolls (http://images.google.com/images?q=victorian+dolls&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi&gbv=1&ei=aHVuSLy4IZKUigHwu7mgAQ) w/ powers fighting each other to achieve perfection... kinda like pokemon except w/ dolls.
Lucky Star: slice of life self-referential anime about 4 school girls (and one of them is an admitted otaku* who hangs out on 2chan forums, loves Melancoly of Haruhi Suzumiya, works at a cosplay cafe AS Haruhi & plays mmos)
Dennou Coil: slice of life drama/horror/comedy/future anime about kids who use virtual reality to surf the internet & play w/ virtual pets. But there's a problem, the internet might be haunted by a girl who takes childrens' souls. Think Ghost in the Shell minus the action plus Haibane Renmei's sometimes somber sometimes light tone. I liked them all but if I had to go in order: Lucky Star, Dennou Coil & Rozen Maiden.

I'm certain they won't try to re-dub what's already out there, but some of the best news is that it won't be difficult to keep the same dub cast for newer volumes. Funimation and ADV are based out of the same region (Houston and Dallas, respectively), and practically every voice actor in that area is already a double-agent for both studios.

Well, the original was sorta broke. From what I gather, the way they made the original makes it really, really difficult to get a decent transfer to Blu-Ray... as evidenced by the disappointing Japanese BD release. So I'm guessing this is designed to alleviate that issue.
I just hope they don't change the style of it, ya know? I don't want GITS SAC: The Movie, I want straight up GITS.

Same here. That's why I said I'm gonna be cautiously pessimistic. As for the GITS movie being a difficult transfer to BR, well, my impression was that they were essentially doing a remake of the original movie w/ new animations so I was afraid it would change the tone of the movie (which is not necessarily not a bad thing if, as I mentioned in the other post, they are able to offer a more compelling experience than the original).

Just finished season 1 of Code Geass. After seeing other shows that were hyped to hell, like Gurren Lagann turn out to be steaming piles of shit, I wasn't too sure how this would end up, but I was fairly surprised at how good it was. The ending left a bit more to be desired, but i'm taking a pretty fair guess in that the story continues in R2.
Right now i'm hunting down the first 12 episodes of R2. From what i've seen, Episode 13 aired this week. It'll be nice to have something to look forward to each week, just makes that climax better and better.
Anyone thinking about this show, go for it. Even if you're not into mechs (like myself), the story around the mech battles makes up for it (something Gundam could never deliver on, ZING!)

I just don't buy into Gainax. I did like Abenobashi & FLCL, but those shows seemed original (yes I know most of Abenobashi was references to other series). TTGL just seems like the same ol regurgitated mech plot, but they take shit that no one else would bother to do because the fans would think its completely stupid, and since its Gainax doing it, the fans think its revolutionary and cool.

If you don't like it, fine, but I don't think it's fair to call it nothing special. The whole series is just refreshingly catastrophic. It's one big trainwreck; I've never seen a series that had the balls to do that. There's no protagonist. I can't think of any other anime in which there's no protagonist.
It's been a long time since we've had an unpredictable, fast-paced series. No foreshadowing, no talking down to the audience, no reiterating what's already been done.
It's also pretty unique in that it lends itself to philosophical reflection -- the issues of justice raised by Geass, pertinent in a day and age when there are countless heated debates regarding the death penalty and the right to judge.

Anime crew fell in love with dragging out scenes, whether through a ton of flashbacks , inserting filler moments into fights where characters revert to tactics they used years ago or 10 minute staring matches. I kinda get why, otherwise the show would blow through material and catch up to the manga again. But at the same time I wish they would take the bleach approach, just go through pacing like normal with the important stuff then throw in an ep or two of filler in between until a filler arc happens.

This is the truth. It's entertaining and it gives me something to watch, but this really isn't a great show at all. And yeah, it was entirely predictable this week. Especially with Shirley not showing up in the new opening. It's like "And she's totally dead..." This show really is a predictable Sunrise anime. People come back to life every five minutes, plot twists are given away in the openings, it eventually devolves into a giant train wreck of a plot.

About R2:
Sayoko was pretty awesome, last season she was just a plain maid, now she's a kunoichi. Just awesome. I missed the lack of Shirley in the new OP, so her death was a little bit of a surprise for me. Come to think of it, I never really noticed her character in the OPs both in the first and second season. I honestly never liked her character, she seemed just unimportant (kind of glad her character is gone).
What caught me off guard was Orange-kun (haha, what's his real name) suddenly joining Lelouch's side, after being screwed over so many times in the first season. Total 180 on his part. I doubt he's playing double agent, he really doesn't seem all that smart. These introductions of new information through flashbacks, I find to be horrible.
I would think Rolo would have the common sense to leave Shirley alone, but he must've been so brainwashed into being just an assassin, and just that. Though I thought some sort of connection between him and Lelouch (brotherly love if you will) would support this, but no... I think Rolo is just plain gay for Lelouch.
Still dislike Suzaku for some reason.
I also don't like the direction they took by introducing the different Geass and V.V. Maybe it was to deter any thought of Lelouch being all powerful. But with Orange-kun, it looks like the power is once again shifted to him.
Whatever happened to Xingke and his limited lifetime? I thought he had a disease or whenever he piloted his mech, it'd slowly kill him.

Yea, I guess I should have waited. I just finished episode 2, which explained everything except what happened to V.V. Thus far its seeming like it's going to end up as I feared, a "Geass user of the week" (like demon of the week) anime. Oh HELL yeah!
BTW, I saw the Ghost in the Shell Movie on Sci-Fi for the first time last night. Very, very cool. It's weird seeing different character designs compared to SAC or 2nd GiG (the Major looked way different), but it was neat seeing it on TV.

I started watching D.Gray-man out of need to just watch something. It's not bad so far. I'm only like six episodes in, but I think I'll keep watching. Not the best thing ever, but pretty decent for a shonen action show. I can definitely see why people say it's sorta like a mix of Bleach and FMA.

The end is near for this series (I think) and I like that they don't (relatively speaking) drag it out like Naruto or Bleach.

That would be nice to know there's a definite end in sight for the series. Both Naruto and Bleach have annoyed me beyond belief with the never endingness to them. It's also why I've never really been able to get into One Piece, cause there's a 350+ episode backlog to get current...
I've watched another 5 or so episodes now of D.Gray-man, and I'm still enjoying it. Still far from the greatest thing ever but it's entertaining. I could see myself watching this through to the end.

also stopped Honey + Clover after the first episode. i might give it another shot in the future, but it was just.. boring :-#

That makes me feel less bad, I stopped at episode 15. I don't think I could sit through another 35 episodes (and at least 1 OVA) of the same characters going through the same thing happening around the same festival. I may be able to sit through a arc (i think they call them chapters) every now and then, but a marathon watch is a bad idea for this show.

Anyone on the east coast going to the Otakon?
After last year's sorry Otakon i'm on the fence, didn't have nearly as much fun as previous years. I don't know panels just seemed boring, the Funimation panel consisted of the art director babbling about how much he loved art and what pieces he used to put on a box, ADV had a question and answer session about a bunch of shows i've never heard of, highlight was seeing people go apeshit over Devil May Cry ep 1, guess none of them had seen enough of the series to know it stunk.

I love Lucky Star exactly for that reason. Each of the characters personifies a different group of people I hang out with. I have the Konata group - the otaku/gamer set, the Tsukasa group - the timid but cute wallflowers who I have to drag kicking & screaming when I wanna go out, the Kagami group - the mature (but sometimes immature) ultra "must act like an adult" friends who don't understand why I hang out w/ the other groups, and finally, the Miyuki group, the genteel, 'rich' kids who always act proper & are really smart. It's like they took a page out of my life & distilled it into an anime. So of course I love it. :bouncy:

If you like Code Geass, you may want to give Death Note a try. The first 2/3 of the Death Note anime was great, the final 1/3 was awful imho, and I've heard the manga also started to fall apart right around that point. Something happens to a certain major character, and the show just loses its intrigue and suspense.
I'm on episode 28...
Were you referring to L dying? L died in episode 26, and these two episodes have been really boring now... I can't imagine it being too great from here on out, without L. They should've just made it 26 eps. I'm gonna stick with it though, I blazed through the first ~25 in two days.

Haven't been able to get online for the last couple days cause AT&T f'ed up my dsl connection again.:bomb: It's alright now though , they fixed the problem. As usual it was there own equipment.
Anyway , finally after much delay I managed to finish watching GTO. I liked it a lot. It was strange cause I hesitated watching it initially and didn't think I'd like it but I don't know why. Glad I did watch it though.
Time to dig out the backlog list , which was buried halfway through the last thread:
Haibane Renmei
Azumanga Daioh
Escaflowne
GTO
Last Exile
Witch Hunter Robin
Zone of the Enders
Record of the Lodess War
Space Pirate Captain Herlock
Niea under 7
Tenchi in Tokyo
Final Fantasy Unlimited
There has been a couple new additions to my backlog since I made this list. Wanted to know if anyone could help me figure out where to place them:
Noien (picked up from that Best Buy sale a few months ago)
Robotech Protoculture Collection (same)
Naruto (doesn't really matter since I don't have all the current released sets , plus the shows ongoing , plus I'd just be rewatching a lot of these episodes)
Any of these I should push to the front or should I just start on Last Exile?

Lucky Star just seemed to punish me with massive unfunny portions with a brief moment of brilliance. I'll probably steel myself for another go, but at this point I'm back into One Piece. I have to say the eps around 225-235 I watched last night actually had me RIVETED to the television. Probably some of the best moments in One Piece I've ever seen.
What it was when the Franky brothers beat up Usopp and stole the mugiwara's money and Usopp is too ashamed to face them. Then he goes to fight the brothers himself and just receives more a beatdown. Finally the crew shows up and murders the entire Franky brothers gang but their money is still unrecovered. At the same time the news of the Going Merry being destroyed pushes an already beleagured Usopp to leave the crew and to challenge Luffy to a duel. Man, so much drama.

Last Exile is excellent. Record of Loduss War is awesome, though the US DVD release video quality sucks. Are you going to watch the newer Herlock or the older original series? The newer series was ok, but the older one is awesome. Robotech is overrated. Robotech is an edited version of three unrelated series spliced together. I seen only parts of said 'Robotech' though I own all three original series (Macross, Southern Cross, and Mespeada), and they are fantastic.

It's the most recent Herlock series. I know well the history of robotech , and despite the fact that the show is a "hack" of three unrelated shows fused together , I still like it.
I find it interesting that you say you like the three original shows that robotech is made from , since most fans (that've I've read online) seem to feel that although Macross was great on its own , that Southern Cross and Mespeada were both subpar shows that were made better as part of robotech.

Having seen Southern Cross as well, good God was it bad. It was bad in robotech as well, its a pretty funny show in that regard. Mosepeda on the other hand I enjoyed quite a bit. For years I had heard from fans that Macross got hacked to pieces in robotech, honestly there wasn't much different. A few references to robotechnology thrown in, music changed and that was that. Oh and a surprisingly more morbid ending.

I can also agree from having seen Southern Cross as part of Robotech (The Masters Season) that it was pretty boring. Useful for plot progression but not much else. The New Generation (Mosepeda) is the only season of robotech I've NEVER seen.
The Macross season I think is the one edited the least , as you mentioned other than changing some music and adding in the refrences to the robotech masters and whatnot. Most likely when they started the robotech project they began with macross as the template , and when they decided to add southern cross and mosepeda , it was easier to just add minor refrences to future events in the macross season , where in later seasons they had to do more drastic changes to fit them in with previous events.

I'd add Trigun, Outlaw Star, and Big O. Huge props to your list for including Hajime no Ippo, and also for not including The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya nor Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan.

I just watched episode 32 of Death Note and am super confused...
Light was on the phone with "Kira", in the room with Taki, and the police department had the room bugged... Light writes on a piece of paper for the police department to remove all the bugs and they immediately do without question. WTF? It seems like a huge, gaping hole in the plot... it doesn't make any sense at all. "hay guyz, im not kira but stop watching me for a second while i talk about kira stuff kthx" and they're never the wiser? After constant suspicion, they just say "okay, that's a reasonable request"? WTF?!

 I just did the same thing. I was moving my bookmarks around from my different browsers and when I loaded AOD to check it I was like huh? Had to do a double check and googled the site just to make sure I had the right address.

If anyone watched Someday's Dreamers (aka Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto), you need to watch Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora. And, if you haven't seen Someday's Dreamers you have to see that and this. They aren't really connected, so the order you watch them in doesn't matter.
The new series, which is currently airing, has beautiful animation. I honestly can't decide whether or not some of the backgrounds are photographs or not because they seem so real.

DB dropping Shippuuden, for real or another stupid joke? They've cried wolf too many times for me to believe them.

No kidding, they pull a stunt every few months like this, if it were really true I would imagine the first thing they would do is remove the files from their trackers, since they are still up I call horseshit until further notice.

Ditto. Not to mention they pull this during a week when Naruto didn't even air. The joke is getting old.

DB has always stunk.
Didn't they pretend one of their staff was picked up by the police for subbing at one point?

DB is the definition of troll. There subs have never been that good anyway.
I wish someone would just release subs faster then them so all the leechers would just goto that group instead of DB.

Not true. DB has really stepped up their quality over the last few years. For a group that's able to crank out episodes as fast as they do, the accuracy is impressive. I'm just sick of all the artificial drama they manufacture every couple of months as a "joke."
Also, you may want to work on your own English before criticizing the English of others.

They've attempted to hold episodes as ransom for money, claimed they were stopping all of their projects before for this same thing, and claimed that a good portion of their staff was arrested at Otakon when invited for the fansubbing panel amongst other things. They've apparently tried to pull the same thing for Bleach during one of its off weeks before, so that seems to make trolling the more likely answer.

Frisky, not to mention all the troll releases. They know the leechers will continue to download no matter how many times they pull this crap because they are the only ones doing either series. The worst thing was the whole GNAA fiasco in which they released an episode of gay porn in place of a naruto episode.

Its pretty bad. One of the guys in the group is part of a trolling group called GNAA. Here is an article they published about the incident.
