I was pretty much raised on WCW wrestling. I watched my fair share of WWF when I was young, but for some reason or another, I was always partial to WCW right up until their last show.
During my time watching WCW, there were several extremely memorable events that took place.
- Sting unmasking the Black Scorpion and unveiling Ric Flair at Halloween Havoc.
- Hogan turning against his tag team partners and siding with the Outsiders.
- Bam Bam Bigelow's Hardcore Championship belt busting off his belly because he was too fat on his way to the ring.
- The awesome matches between Ricky the Dragon Steamboat and Ric Flair.
There were just tons of great things from wrestling back in the day, and wrestling today is just a shadow of what it once was. Good storylines are pretty much a thing of the past.
Who can ever forget when Hogan bodyslammed Andre during Wrestlemania? Man, those were the good times.
What are some of your guys special moments from the good ol' days of wrestling?

Any time Sting would make an appearence (right after the nWo took over) was always cool because you never really got to see him.
Hogan turning heel was awesome.
When Scott Hall and Nash first appeared in WCW.
Even though the writers messed it up, the Ultimate Warrior returning to take on Hogan was cool, could have been so much better though. Stupid writers.
I still have the final Nitro on tape, need to watch it again. Good times.

The Beer Bath that Austin Did to the mcmahons
the whole Ministry thing from taker
Hogan body slamming andre of course (got it on tape)
I agree Wrestling was great back then
some of the story lines are just way 2 retarted now
for example the Kane Baby

What about when Jake the Snake was wrestling against Ric Martel and in the blindfold match. He got the audience to tell him where Martel was. That was a brilliant way to get the fans into the match.
Who remembers what led up to that fight? Jake was doing an interview with Bubba Love and Martel sprayed him with his cologne and blinded Jake. It was pretty freaky because they put some white contacts in his eyes and he really did look blind.
Jake the Snake was one of the best wrestlers of all time. His DDT was one of the best finishers ever created. He pulled it off so well.

Heh, I remember that Martel/Jake angle. That was classic. Remember when Martel tried to comeback near the end of WCW, that was kinda sad to watch, the fans just didn't get him.

Any time Sting would make an appearence (right after the nWo took over) was always cool because you never really got to see him.
Do you remember when Sting appeared in the balcony holding the vulture and an eerie kid's voice started reading a poem about Sting? I think I still remember that poem.
When man's heart is full of deciet...
It burns up, dies...
And a dark shadows falls over his soul...
From the ashes of a once great man, has risen a curse...
A wrong that must be righted...
We look to the skies for a vindicator, someone to strike fear into the black hearts of the sane man who created him...
The battle between good, and evil has begun...
Against an army of shadows, lies the dark warrior...
The prevailer of good...
With a voice of silence...
And a mission of justice...
This is Sting.
I just about creamed my pants at that point. That had to be the coolest singular event of all of my time watching wrestling. I used to have about 20 friends come over and watch Nitro with me, and we were all blown away after that. Sting was the coolest damn character ever!

Hell yeah, I remember that. I think I have it on tape somewhere. Then JJ Dillion asked Sting what it is he wants. Of course, Sting doesn't talk, so all the fans started chanting Hogan, and he pointed to all the chanting fans. Some of the greatest moments in wrestling came from the whole Stin/Hogan lead up.

Thanks man, I really appreciate that. I used to tape Nitro every week so I could watch it Tuesday and Wednesday, then I'd watch Thunder on Thursday.
The best part in the final Nitro was the Sting/Flair match. When the match ended and they gave each other a hug and shook hands, I believe I shed a single tear.

I liked being in the Ga dome when goldberg won his belt from hogan. That was bad ass. Then i met him the next day at publix in lawrenceville and had him sign my tickett stub from the night before. Come to think of it that damn thing is probily worth some money since it was the night he won the belt! Might have to ebay that thing.

That whole sting crap was such rip off of the Crow. I mean come on. Thats not old school anyway. Old School is like when Taker used to put people in the coffin or Brother Love show. I still remember when he was introduced in the WWF at Survivor series, good stuff. I'll take anything with the hitman in the match over anyone else. He will always be the bester there ever will be

Well, the Sting angle isn't old school, but it's just wrestling goodness. I'd say that was probably the last gimmick that took me back into the old days of wresting.
Yeah, everyone knows it was a ripoff of the Crow, but WCW did such a good job with it, that it worked.
Do you guys remember when he'd break through the ring and pull a member of the NWO through it? That was pretty cool.
Hah hah, then I remember when Tony Shiavone was talking about how beautiful Scott Steiners body was. He was trying to just put him over and sell him to the fans, but what he said ended up being a overtly gay statement.

Old school eh, I was always a fan of Mr. Perfect's training videos for other sports. My favorite was football when he threw the long bomb to himself. Great stuff, simply Perfect.
Sidenote, he was my favorite character to play in Wrestlefest.

Ah the classics:
The rockers vs the hart foundation
the rock n roll express
Hogan vs Warrior in wrestlemania (I think) and warrior wins (first multi-ttile holder in wwf back then) and then they shake hands.
Honky tonk man vs ricky the dragon in NBC Saturday night wrestling those were badass.
ahhh the memories of good ole wrestling

I was at Wrestlemania III when Hogan bodyslammed Andre and the whole freaking place went nuts!!
I believe that event held the attendance record for quite some time. Ahhh, the good ole Pontiac Silverdome.
My old school wrestling days take me back even further. How about the old NWA days on TBS?
The Road Warriors would just kick the living crap out of every single team they went against.
Those were also the early days of the 4 horsemen, Flair, Tully Blanchard, Arn & Ole Anderson.
Damn my age is showing.

I remember when I was a kid staying up late one night and watching some kind of local wrestling federation.
During a match, about six or seven other wrestlers came out with aluminum bats and beat the living shit outta one guy. At that point, I still thought wrestling was real, and this dude was bleeding really bad.
I remember sitting there under my covers and at that point, I was scarred for life. I just witnessed my first beatdown. I was never the same since.

- Hulksters Back
- Wrestling Boot Traveling Band
- Bad To The Bone
- I Want To Be A Hulkamaniac
- Beach Patrol
- Hulk's The One
- Hulkster In Heaven

I'm really too young to remember Ventura.
What about the Great Muta? Him and Sting had some GREAT feuds back in the day. I loved when he'd spray that green stuff in his opponent's face, and they'd go down like a sack of potatoes.
I've also seen this strange Japanese wrestling match. It was a hardcore tournament and Mick Foley was actually in it.
On the outside of the ring were broken glass, barbed-wire bats and other very dangerous things. In the middle of the ring was a square box that contained hundreds of metal tacks. I remember watching these two Japanese guys going at it and on guy got Powerbombed into the tack box!
He ended up winning the match, but there were literally hundreds of tacks stuck in his back and in his head. The most disgusting thing ever! The camera followed him into the locker room where he pulled his shirt off, along with all the tacks. He then proceeded to the toilet where he threw up. That was a very messed up tournament. Now I like hardcore matches as much as the next guy, but I really don't want to see wrestlers gore and maim themselves.

Yeah, there's a fine line between entertaining hardcore wrestling and over-the-top hardcore. Seeing some blood once in a while is cool but when there's a puddle big enough to fill up a Mr. Turtle pool it kind of takes away from the action.
Before Muta there was another old-school wrestler named the Great Kabuki that had the same routine. I believe it was during the real old school WCW days(World Class Wrestling back then). Others you would see would include Abdullah the Butcher and King Kong Bruiser Brody.
The Ultimate Warrrior also came from here, he was originally the Dingo Warrior.

There's really just too many memories, I've been watching wrestling ever since my dad thought I was old enough to watch it at age 3. Since I was so small and he became the closest thing to Andre the Giant and naturally it was my job to play the role of Hulk Hogan and jump off of the furniture and try to knock him over. It never really worked though... I should try it again next time I'm back home for old time's sake.
Anyone else remember the big Hogan - Earthquake feud? Hogan was on the Brother Love show I believe and Earthquake came out of nowhere and leveled him and proceeded to do the Earthquake splash on him several times (Think Banzai drop in the middle of the ring). Then Tugboat (Typhoon/Shockmaster later on) had a promo in which he pleads with all the Hulkamaniacs to send in "get-well" letters to the Hulkster so he'll heal faster. Hogan eventually came back (from making movies I believe) and got revenge on the Earthquake. Tugboat later turned on Hogan, and joined the Earthquake to form the Natural Disasters, that was good too. Poor John Tenta (Quake) though, he was recently diagnosed with cancer, although I'm not sure what kind, hopefully he recovers.
That's the really crappy part about looking back at classic wrestling, remembering all the wrestlers that have since passed away. It's strange to think that the British Bulldog, Crash Holly, Road Warrior Hawk, Mr. Perfect, the Texas Tornado, Yokozuna and of course Owen Hart are no longer alive.
On a more positive note, does anyone else remember the second coolest heel turn ever? This of course occured at Brutus the Barber Beefcake's barber shop show. He was interviewing Marty Jennety and Shawn Michaels, when Michaels took it upon himself to send Jennety through the barber shop window, oh that was classic.

Coolest Heel Turns:
1. Hogan joining the Outsiders to form the NWO.
2. Andre the Giant challenging Hogan for his title at Wrestlemania III (happened on Piper's Pit).
3. Shawn Michaels aligns with HHH and Chyna and starts Degeneration-X.
4. Scott Steiner turning on his brother and joining the NWO during a championship tag match against Hall & Nash.
5. The Rock turning heel for a short time after his victory over Hogan at Wrestlemania (XVIII?) in Toronto.
Zenithian Legend

I'll agree with #1, but Michaels turning on Jannety was so unexpected at least at the time, plus it was done with such zest. Jennety's face was crimson after going through the window. I also liked the Rock turning heel at Survivor Series 98, when he and Shane O Mac did a mockery of the Montrael screwjob from the previous year.
The worst heel turns have to be anything in WCW's dying days:
1. Sting turning heel for a week
2. Goldberg turning heel for 2 months, after WCW announcers promised "something so shocking it'd change wrestling forever"
3. Bret Hart not joining the nWo, but turning heel later for no particular reason.
4. Austin's WM heel turn, followed by him leading the "alliance".
5. Jake the Snake turning on the Ultimate Warrior after pretending to train him to fight the Undertaker, that storyline actually made wrestlecrap.

I have that CD. It's the worst piece of garbage I've ever heard in my life. I bought it at a used music store for a buck. Thing is is that it was still sealed. He tried to RAP in it. HOGAN TRIES TO RAP!!! Also he tries to sing. He sings a freakin ballad in it. Talking about the Wimbeldon arena and stuff. If you want to know how it feels to get raped in the ears then this is what you should listen to.
On the other hand one of the moments that I remember in wrestling was when Warrior and Undertaker were having a fued and Undertaker locked the Warrior in a coffin. All you could see was the coffin shaking around and then it just stopped. I was real little at the time and Warrior was my favorite at the time so that' s why i remember that. I still have a Warrior pillow case.

Since you guys seem so knowlageable about WCW, even the late WCW. I remember Dustin Runnels ( Golddust ) went to WCW in like '99 or so. I fell out from following wrestling at that point, but I remember there was a big deal about his enterance into the ring or something. Supposedly it was "the greatese enterance ever" or something like that. I also read something fairly recently about Hogan breaking chracter during a PPV and basically quitting on the spot or somthing like that.

Hmmm, I haven't heard anything about those two events. Actually, I don't keep up with wrestling at all anymore. Never really have since WCW went under.
I am pretty excited, though, because the WWE is coming to Wichita Falls in a couple weeks, and we always get a wrestler to come out to the base. Who's coming out this time? None other than Chris Benoit!!! I'm going to set up an interview with him. I can't wait! He has always been one of my favorite wrestlers.

Old school.. Like when Kurt Hennig beat Nick Bockwinkle for the AWA world title, when Scott Stiener debuted in the AWA he was only 150 lbs. When the Fabulous Free Birds (Michael PS Sexy Hayes, Terry Bam Bam Gordy, and Buddy Rodgers) ran amok in the WCCW (world class championship wrestling) and went back and forth witht he Von Erich Family, when Steve Austin 1st showed up in WCCW, Kerry Von Erich Beating Ric Flair for the AWA title and losing it again a little over a mont later. Oh man those were the days. Terry Funk, Chris Adams, Jimmy and Ron "the hands of stone" garvin, the Crockett cup tag team tournies, Starcade.. Awesome days.. Not like this crap we have now that passes for wrestling (Kane and Lita wedding....)

When Hogan broke character it was when he was wearing the mask and was supposed to be the Mr America character. He wasn't supposed to take the mask off, but he did anyway for the fans (everyone knew it was Hogan, that was the schtick, but Hogan was "suspended" hence he came back as Mr America.) Once he took off the mask on TV, it pretty much screwed the angle of him being "suspended" and the whole angle of if they ever proved Mr America was Hogan, both Mr America and Hogan would be fired. That was his last match with WWE.

I'd say my fondest memory of the good ol' days of wrestling would have to be when I was about 10 years old and my dad took me to see a WWF event. I remember being so excited. The big match of the night was a tag match: Hulk Hogan and the Macho Man Randy Savage against Jake "The Snake" Roberts and the Undertaker. Savage ended up pinning Roberts to win the match.

Sadly I didn't grow up watching wrestling, hell I hardly watched anything. Damn near every minute was spent on video gaming. Ironically it was because of a video game (Warzone) that I eevn became a fan. Ever since Warzone I've been a big Wrestling fan. I may hate the WWE and their bastardilized vision of "sports entertainment" but I'll always love pro wrestling.
Anywho my favorite moment in all of wrestling would have to be the Raw after the Invasion PPV. It was in my homw town and I attended it. The match in question is Lance Storm defeating Albert for the IC championship. At that point I was a HUGE Storm fan and I went nuts after he pinned him. I cheered so hard you could actually here it on TV! Just seconds after Lance won the belt you can here a very audible "YESSS!" in the background.

That was back in the days when it was the cool thing to own your own wrestling stable. WCW had Raven's Flock, the LWO, NWO White and Black, NWO Wolfpac, the Four Horsemen. It was pretty crazy.
I have an LWO shirt.
