Have a huge backlog that you're tired of wallowing about? Post it here and have fellow cags recommend a game for you to start (for hype, entertainment, whatever!). Even if you're looking for more than one recommendation, say you want x many and that should be fine...So let the cags unload their backlog!

*I'm gunna post mine in a bit. ;)

Looking for 2 reccomendations on a game to play through it.

I've narrowed it down to what I would play. I'm in the same boat, although I'm getting caught up and I'll throw a "short" game into the line-up once in a while just cause.

I want to know who the son of a bitch is that decided to release GTA4 and MGS4 within 6 weeks of each other is.

I could dig this idea , I was actually thinking of something similar just the other day. When you have so many games , its hard to think of what you should play next.

Personally for you (Foo228) I'm going to say:
Console : Ratchet and Clank
Handheld : Feel the Magic

Since you said you already started Ratchet and Clank , and you said your almost finished with Feel the Magic.

Alright, thanks for the suggestions but I'm looking for two choices to coincide (meaning one more person needs to recommend the same game) to play it. But as you said, StarKnightX, it is hard to think of what to play next.

I'd love to choose some from your lists. (when up of course)

Oh and nothing is going to compare to GTAIV and MGS4, QiG...:-#

I also narrowed yours down to what I'd bother playing at all on each system, and put them in order of preference.

I'd go with Metroid Zero Mission and Bioshock for one portable and one console. Since you have RROD I'd say go with Zelda: Twilight Princess on Wii.

No list from me as I don't keep a back log. I'm working on Crackdown (360) and Space Invaders Extreme right now, and all I have untouched is Oblivion and Call of Duty 2 on the 360, and I'll start one of those up (probably CoD2) after finishing Crackdown.

Basically I just narrowed it down. Cut games I dont' personally like, cut a bunch of old RPGs (outdated, take too much time when you've got a ridiculous back log), got rid of lesser games in series (later Ratchet Deadlocked, Jak games etc.). Bolded a few that I'd play first--i.e. some of my favorites.

Big thing is to cut down on last gen and older stuff--you'll probaby never get to most of that as if you're like me you'd rather play newer games most of the time.

That's the PS3 one right? Deadlocked wasn't as good as the first 2 on PS2 IMO.

Mainly, I wouldn't' worry about playing every game in a yearly series like Ratchet and Clank or Sly Cooper etc. Just play the newest one and the best reviewed oldest if you must. Variety is the spice of life and those yearly series don't offer much new from game to game IMO.

Yeah, I'm talking about the PS3 Ratchet. Speaking of Deadlocked, I actually put a decent amount of time into it (It wasn't as good, but I still enjoyed it a lot more than most games). I just haven't touched it in a while. Since I'm a Ratchet fanboy, I'll never get rid of it.

Speaking of Wipeout on PSP, I forgot to say, I almost beat Pure, and I am playing Pulse a lot, so I won't ditch either (Wipeout is one of the few series I actually play a lot).

I like this site (http://www.backloggery.com), partly as just a basic game collection manager and because it's geared towards completing old games. Here's my list (http://www.backloggery.com/main.php?user=metaly). I plan to make some real progress on it starting soon because there's not much coming out that I'm looking forward to besides SC4.

long long list

Dude, you have to play Lufia II. And definitely finish Secret of Mana sometime. That might be my favorite SNES game.

I've seen backloggery before , and after seeing so many CAGs show it support , I might have to give it a shot. Only problem with it , and part of the point of THIS thread , is trying to figure out what to play next , not just to play the games you have.

Lufia 2 is awesome , never finished it back in the day though. I really hope it might get ported or see a Virtual Console release some day , maybe along with the first game as well. Secret of Mana was great too , with an adventure that really built to a great climax.

Jesus Mana, I have about 50 games across all my systems (GBA, DS, GC, 360, Wii, not counting XBLA/VC), and I feel like I have too many games, lol. Some of those aren't really beatable games too (most of my DS games now are puzzle games).

Here's my list of games I want to finish (I don't really need help with it, but just for comparison):

360:

Guitar Hero II
Guitar Hero III
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Mass Effect
PGR4
Stuntman: Ignition
Viva Pinata

Wii:

Elebits
Link's Crossbow Training (would take like an hour)
Mario Kart Wii
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (probably won't finish anyway)
Trauma Center: New Blood
Zack & Wiki

GC:

F-Zero GX
Fire Emblem: PoR

DS:

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

GBA (haven't played much of this lately):

Castlevania Double Pack
F-Zero GP Legend
Fire Emblem (on part I of final chapter)
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap
Sonic Advance 3
Warioware: Twisted

And I feel like I'll never get it done, so good luck with that shit you two.

what to play next?

Fire Emblem: POR
LoZ Windwaker
Tales of Symphonia
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Suikoden III + V
FF Tactics
Persona 3 FES (don't own this one but thinking of buying it)

I'm leaning towards Tales or Suikoden III or Tactics. but if P3 is better than all three then i'll buy it and play it first

Dude, you have to play Lufia II. And definitely finish Secret of Mana sometime. That might be my favorite SNES game.I played Lufia II for over 20 hours. I really liked the game, but there is a problem. I tried putting the game in a few years ago, and I completely forgot where to go. Even looking at GameFAQs and so on, I cannot get out of being stuck. That's why, I've kind of given up and will sell it to a CAG member soon who wants it.

As for Secret of Mana, I beat a friend's copy years ago, but there were certain portions I did not play (due to a mode mix-up with my friend). That game is quite dear to me, so I hope to finish it one day. I considered selling, but I probably won't.

Good job on not having a backlog, I wish I could say that ;) (can't remember the last time I replayed a game after beating it...aside from Brawl)

Here are the suggestions I've got so far:
-Feel the Magic & Ratchet and Clank
-Metroid Zero Mission & BioShock/Zelda: Twilight Princess
(nothing specific from QiG and I'm looking for just one more vote from the above or two seperate votes for the same game :hot: - today I was bored outta my mind as I couldn't choose between 'em)

Okami - I absolutely loved the game up until it gave you that damn dog hunt. NOT FUN. Hopefully once I get past this part, I'll find something to love again.

FFXII - IDK, just got boring somewhere.

MGS2 - I just don't like this game much. It's been in the backlog for a reason. I love 3, 4, and even 1, but 2 just doesn't compare.

I don't have many other games in my backlog due to being poor. Most games I get, I will definitely play to the fullest extent.

Son of a bitch, you have a lifetime of games to play dude.

Not how I see it, but I guess to each his own? ;)

Dude , you wouldn't want to see my list.

I thought I had it bad...saw Mana Knight's and I can tell there is only worse to come

My backlog use to be way worse than that. It still sucks, but not as bad:

right, this is going to be fun:

Don't know if you refer to backlog as not 100% complete or just the average completion (sorta confused me), but again to each his own.

Games I highly recommend:
Console: (you'll be better off for newer renditions, when present)
Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy Tactics
Chrono Cross (big exception - no new one)
Castlevania: SotN (another exception - best in series apparently)
Dragon Quest VIII (idk..same goes with choosing other rpgs, not my thing ;))
As far as downloadable content goes, I didn't list any of my Wii titles (or any of yours) as I just play them in short bursts here and there, anyways.
Super Mario Galaxy (not that long - very good take on platforming)
Mario Kart Wii (see Sonic Rush below)
Yoshi's Island (stuck?...I was for awhile)

Portable:
The World Ends With You
Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters (stuck in combat or a part of the game?)
Daxter
Sonic Rush (don't bother unless you want to be frustrated several times)

(Also, I'm in the same boat as you are on EBA if you are on the last song on the medium setting)

Oh and we both have Jet Grind Radio, Klonoa 2, and Ac!d 2...one of these days, we'll have to start playing them :hot:

That's the PS3 one right? Deadlocked wasn't as good as the first 2 on PS2 IMO.

Mainly, I wouldn't' worry about playing every game in a yearly series like Ratchet and Clank or Sly Cooper etc. Just play the newest one and the best reviewed oldest if you must. Variety is the spice of life and those yearly series don't offer much new from game to game IMO.

Good take on that...never came to me for some odd reason. As for Deadlocked, I (as well as critics) agree to you - reason it didn't stick to me like the others did was it felt stale, shooting segment after shooting segment (big fan of Up Your Arsenal though...smashed platforming and shooting - 2d and 3d, masterfully).

I like this site (http://www.backloggery.com/), partly as just a basic game collection manager and because it's geared towards completing old games. Here's my list (http://www.backloggery.com/main.php?user=metaly). I plan to make some real progress on it starting soon because there's not much coming out that I'm looking forward to besides SC4.

I'll check it out in a bit, I do agree with what StarKnightX said though

Alright I can play this game as well.
Cept for I'm got about 50 hrs of work each week so I need games I can play in bursts

Split between Metal Gear Solid and God of War...whichever you're feeling, I suppose. (I remember it took me 70 hours to get through GTA: SA although I did have a blast). As for short bursts, Halo 2 (as much as it pains me to say this) is perfect with the checkpoints every so often.

So I think I am about done with MGS4, and I have 3 games that I got in the "buy 2 get 1" sale at GS, So which one next CAG's???

A. The Darkness
2. Dark Sector
III. Time Shift

Easy, The Darkness (I personally loved it...hopefully you will too)

Only one I can reccomend from experience is Zelda: Windwaker (loved it...played it in 6th grade though 8-)). As far as the others, I say go for Persona 3: FES as it's new, could become rare and it's critically praised.

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/937269.asp?q=persona

Okami - I absolutely loved the game up until it gave you that damn dog hunt. NOT FUN. Hopefully once I get past this part, I'll find something to love again.

FFXII - IDK, just got boring somewhere.

MGS2 - I just don't like this game much. It's been in the backlog for a reason. I love 3, 4, and even 1, but 2 just doesn't compare.

I don't have many other games in my backlog due to being poor. Most games I get, I will definitely play to the fullest extent.

Sorta wish that was still me...I'd be alot wiser in my decisions in buying (as would others). Go Okami.

I'm trying to decide between Halo 3 and the Orange Box for my FPS fix.

Tough choice...but the nod goes to Orange Box due to the new stuff (new pyro capabilities/acheivements and the sniper in tf2!) Unless of course you're yearning to play Halo Wars later this year, if so...then Halo 3 8-).

Good job on not having a backlog, I wish I could say that ;) (can't remember the last time I replayed a game after beating it...aside from Brawl)

I seldom replay games after beating them. They're usually sold or now thrown on Goozex right away. That's part of the way I don't have a backlog.

The main is just not buying a bunch of games. I don't like to have more than 1 or 2 on the shelf waiting for me. It's kind of nice to beat a game, or be close to beating a game, and have nothing there and then to spend a day or two figuring out what I really want to pick up and play next.

both are good. but i'd say orange box as you can get through it pretty quick chunks, and because Portal is fucking amazing.

I wouldn't list speed as a reason there. Halo 3 takes around 6 hours to beat probably. Orange box takes a lot more than that assuming he's doing Portal and all the Half Life 2 episodes that's around 20-25 hours at least.

I'd say play it first too, but just because Portal and especially the Half Life 2 stuff if he's never played it are better games--but I did like Halo 3 as well.

Alright, let's see what I have waiting for me to finish:

:gc:
Paper Mario*
Skies of Arcadia*
Killer 7*

Final Fantasy V*
Yggdra Union*

:ds:

All the asterisks mean I've made significant progress in the game. So not a whole lot waiting out there for the most part. I'm in the middle of :wii: Okami and :ds: Etrian Odyssey 2. Been debating dumping VP2 if VP DS gets announced here.

I'd say finish off Okami (great game--on PS2 anyway, haven't played the Wii port) and then finish off Paper Mario, then move on to RE4.

The others I can't help you with as JRPGs, killer 7 etc. aren't my bag.

I have a general suggestion for dealing with game backlogs. I've noticed that many people put their game collection right next to their TV... So when you're playing one game, you can still see all of your other games. So any time you turn on your console, you have too many choices... and the backlog stays the same.

I recommend moving your collection somewhere else, and only have @ most, 3 games next to your tv. These 3 games become the only games that you can play. You continue to play those games until you've either beat them, or traded them in. Only keep games that you really know you will play again. Just a thought...

Oh, I highly recommend Panzer Dragoon Orta... It's a lot of fun, and it's pretty short too.

I did the same thing. I've got all the games I want for Xbox Live plus a couple in the backlog. The rest I put in the closet. It's becoming like a kid's candy store in there but it's always fun to pull a game out of the closet after I'm done with the games I have near the TV. It's really helped thin out the backlog much faster than having them all sitting there.

If I were you I'd focus on the games I left in the list--and maybe ditch some of the others. Especially Zelda, no need to replay it on the Wii--it's the same game with waggle added.

I'd prioritize Okami and Eternal Darkness as those are among my favorites of last gen, and Mass Effect as it's maybe my favorite so far this generation.

My list has grown absolutely huge by my standards due to the fact I almost never play games when I am in school, and just haven't felt like playing very much during my summer vacation in addition to working.

PS2:
Odin Sphere
Grim Grimoire
Nocturne
Disgaea 2
Rogue Galaxy
MGS 2/3 (From Essentials)
Ico
Shadow of the Collosus (don't own, can borrow)
God of War II (don't own, can borrow)

Last game played: Persona 3: FES (about 75% through Tartarus)

Wii:
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Zack and Wiki
Metroid Prime 3
Mercury Meltdown Revolution

Thinking of Purchasing: Okami and No More Heroes

Last game completed: Super Mario Galaxy/Guitar Hero 3 Expert (all songs except Raining Blood, Devil Went Down to Georgia, and TTFAF)

PS3:
GTA 4
MGS4
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
DMC4
Folklore
* I pretty much never touch my PS3 games because I only have an SDTV at the moment...waiting to get an HDTV around Christmas time

Gamecube:
Eternal Darkness
Tales of Symphonia
Ikaruga (played this a bit, hate playing without multi-player)
F-Zero GX

Xbox 360:
Lost Odyssey
Blue Dragon
*Don't own a 360 yet, waiting for price to drop...got both of these games for a combined 20$

Although most of my games are RPGs, I'm actually looking for something quick that I can just blaze through, but is still enjoyable and moderately challenging.

urzishra14
06-22-2008, 06:22 PM
this is really just a general guideline for a lot of people on here..

stop buying every RPG out there.. you're just not going to be able to play or finish many of them.. and the mechanics are usually derivitive and repetitive..

I love me some good RPGs too but In my personal experience the majority of them I probably could do without..

the good thing though is they keep their trade value relatively high.

dmaul1114
06-22-2008, 06:38 PM
Yeah, for RPG fans a good rule is to not buy a new one until you finish the old one. That way you can prioritize and buy and play the cream of the crop.

But a problem is a lot of these guys collect RPGs and some of the oddball ones are rare so they buy them to be sure they can find them. Not much to be done there--either get over collecting games, or just accept you'll never play all the RPGs you buy.

It helps if you think of it less as a shooter and get used to using the lock-on. I was really skeptical of how the series would work in first person, but it ended up being one of my favorite Gamecube games. I still need to play 2 and 3 at some point.

Final Fantasy X or Dragon Quest 8 -- best PS2 RPGs bar none imho. DQ8 is more traditional, and I'm a sucker for old school. It is the perfect embodiment of a simpler SNES rpg in 3D. FFX has an elegant and somewhat poignant story with fun characters and some fairly dark themes. Full customization in how your characters gain stats versus regular level ups is also a huge plus with the awesome sphere grid system. Also has what is by far my favorite Nobuo Uematsu track w/vocals in Suteki da ne. Both must be played!

Those two are the last truly fun rpg's I played that were fun throughout, the overrated (imo) Final Fantasy 12 and Persona 3 included (although if you love level grinding, persona 3 will be right up your alley).

Since I've just been making comments and asking for advice on my own backlog , I finally decided to help others in this thread (besides foo) with some advice.

Dreamcast:
Jet Grind Radio

DS
Elite Beat Agents (on last song)
Mario Kart DS (really behind on characters)
Sonic Rush

GBA
Final Fantasy V Advance
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
Sonic Advance 3 (near end)

GC
Bomberman Generations
Mega Man Network Transmission

PS1
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Chrono Cross (Shockingly I never beat this, got stuck)
Final Fantasy Tactics
Um Jammer Lammy (Stuck on stage)

PS2
Jak X: Combat Racing (I played the game quite a bit, but still a lot left to unlock)
La Pucelle: Tactics (At end, but too low level)
Mega Man X7 (at end)
Ratchet & Clank (On the 2nd to last stage)
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga (At the very end, but too low of a level)

PS3
DiRT (Over 50% complete)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (Working at it now)
MotorStorm (Stuck on some level 3 stages)
Ridge Racer 7 (Over 75% complete)

PSP
Mega Man Powered Up (need to finish completing characters)
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (near end, but kind of stuck)

SNES
Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest
Secret of Mana (never beat the copy I have, only a friend's)
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Wii
Link's Crossbow Training
NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams (Beat William Taylor, almost done with Helen)

360
Beautiful Katamari

Xbox
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Project Gotham Racing 2 (almost done, have over 40 hours in it)
Rallisport Challenge 2 (near done, just haven't done the last races)

Alright I can play this game as well.
Cept for I'm got about 50 hrs of work each week so I need games I can play in bursts

**means I'm almost done with the game

Xbox
Halo 2

PS3
Resistance (almost to the end)

PS2
RE4 (** on my 2nd playthrough)
TimeSplitters Future Perfect (about half way)

Ps1
Resident Evil 2

So I think I am about done with MGS4, and I have 3 games that I got in the "buy 2 get 1" sale at GS, So which one next CAG's???

A. The Darkness

what to play next?

I'm leaning towards Tales or Suikoden III or Tactics. but if P3 is better than all three then i'll buy it and play it first

I'd say go with Final Fantasy Tactics.

I'm trying to decide between Halo 3 and the
Orange Box for my FPS fix.

Have you already played the first two halos and care about the series conclusion? If yes , go with Halo 3 , if not go with the Orange Box.

Here goes.

My list has grown absolutely huge by my standards due to the fact I almost never play games when I am in school, and just haven't felt like playing very much during my summer vacation in addition to working.

PS2:
MGS 2/3 (From Essentials)
Ico

Last game played: Persona 3: FES (about 75% through Tartarus)

Wii:
Zack and Wiki
Metroid Prime 3
Mercury Meltdown Revolution

PS3:
Folklore
* I pretty much never touch my PS3 games because I only have an SDTV at the moment...waiting to get an HDTV around Christmas time

Gamecube:
Eternal Darkness
Ikaruga (played this a bit, hate playing without multi-player)

Although most of my games are RPGs, I'm actually looking for something quick that I can just blaze through, but is still enjoyable and moderately challenging.

Returning the favor to you cecil , since I left you out of my previous post.

Personally, I'd try to tackle these games before the rest. As for which ones ... I'd probably alternatte between an rpg and an action/adventure game til I got through a big chunk of it, but whatever works. Lot of great games there. Hope you get to experience most of them.
