View Full Version : Rumor: Call of Duty 6 to be set in space?

Dear God, I hope so. You know what, I might even allow space Nazis to pass.

Following the tremendous success of Infinity Ward's well-received Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, fans were generally disappointed to learn that the next installment in the wartime franchise would not only have a different publisher, but would also be replacing their M4s with M1s, taking the series back to its World War II roots. If a recently uncovered rumor is credible, we're not entirely sure these same fans would approve of Infinity Ward's plans to throw the bullet-riddled franchise into the DeLorean, gun it to 88, and take it to where they don't need roads.

This rumor (and accompanying clumsy "Back to the Future" reference) finds its origins in a statement from an Infinity Ward insider, who mentioned the company is working on "a sci-fi title", and that further details concerning said title may or may not be made available during E3. It's extremely possible that Infinity Ward would get their hands back on the Call of Duty franchise once Treyarch has had its way with it, but would they really introduce elements of unrealism into such a history-steeped series, or could they be working on an entirely new, space marine-flavored franchise?

We are currently working on a new sci-fi title, we cannot release any more information as of yet, we may or may not announce it at E3.

Probably horseshit, since the original article can no longer be found on the TalkPlaystation.com Blog, but interesting nonetheless.

Probably won't be CoD6, but some new franchise. I'm all for it. I prefer sci-fi settings in shooters to realistic ones.

I could see it being called, like someone said: Call of Duty 6: Futuristic Day Warfare. Infinity Ward likes trying new things.

If they really went at making a realistic futuristic shooter (I know, sounds goofy), and went more the route of Starship Troopers (the movie) rather than Doom, I could see it working. In fact, it might be the shot in the arm the whole sci-fi shooter genre needs and might be closer to what many of us had hoped Halo 2/3 would be like.

And this is why they keep going back to WWII, CheapyD. Subsequent wars are too controversial/grey, previous wars are too 'boring' as FPSes, the current war needs to be danced around via fictious locations and tangential-at-best fictional side stories, and going more than, oh, five years into the future creates a disconnect where Johnny SportsCenter can't 'get majorly pumped' by the game's premise "'cause we just got our shooter ripped by a bunch of fuckin' nerds."

"NERRRRDDDSSS!!!" (http://www.ugo.com/versus/images/characters/gallery_ogre_1.jpg)

(So, no, I don't see this scenario happening as a CoD game. At least...not yet.)

I have already thought of this idea before, and it indeed sounds awesome.

someone should just make a space above and beyond videogame or a decent aliens videogame.

Preferably, it will be more realistic than fantasy, as that's my association with Call of Duty. And as others have said, what ever they choose I will support, as I have faith in Infinity Ward. In any event, a change was inevitable.

That would be fuckin awesome. Cause I know they'd do it in a way, which is believable and fun. Seriously can't wait.

Be awesome having those huge COD battles with walking mechs walking right next to you.

I don't know, they did such a great job on cod 4 with the modern warfare angle I really wish they try it again.

However, if they want to step away from the COD franchise and try something entirely new, I'm all for it and wish them luck.

It's actually going to be set in the 1950's in an underwater dystopia.

That would be shocking.

This could be interesting. I think that they need to make it real enough to keep people connected with the story and setting, but unique enough to set it apart from other shooters. As long as it is a solid shooter then I will be getting it. All of the Call of Duty games have at least been average, with Infinity Ward's being great. I have high hopes for their latest installment.

That said NOTHING about sci-fi AND IW's next CoD game. All it said was IW may be working on a sci-fi title..that is all..nothing else...why are people lumping CoD into it?

If IW is doing it, I could care less where it takes place. It could turn out to be a dirt clod war behind some elementary school and I'd still be on board.

Well IW has been nothing but a CoD factory since its inception, so I think it's fair for people to lump this rumour with it.

EDIT: Maybe they are working on StarCraft: Ghost?

I think it's just that CoD6 is due from them next year, and they're a fairly small developer I think--so many assume this must be it.

But I agree, it may well be called something else and there just won't be a CoD6 next year, or it will be another turd from Treyarch.

It would be a bit of a kick in the nuts to the Killzone franchise, considering that's pretty much its whole schtick.

CoD6: Future Warfare

Eh, at least it isn't SAME OLD SHIT and the good CoD team is doing it. Should be a sweet launch title for the Xbox 720
