Umm, I would say most of his questions just sound like those of someone who isn't a huge video game nerd. Seriously, most of the public has no clue about these things and have no clue how to spell Blu-ray (especially since it's spelled incorrectly). Ask most people how to spell Flickr, etc. As for his confusion over the price of the 360, well, yes, that is part of Microsoft's really stupid marketing.

Multiple SKUs from both parties leads to some amount of consumer confusion if they havent been paying attention.

On top of that (though not really in this particular case, except for the GTA 360 thing), there is some minor degree of loss of branding. When the libraries overlap in a certain way, both the consumer and to some extent the developer treat the two machines as interchangeable. The situation might be slightly worse if you are constantly trying to match your competitor's machine for each and every bullet point on their box.

i think it's the marketing... I don't recall the PS3 and X360 commercials ever reveal too much about the hardware, not even in print ads. Operating a book, or even a dvd, is relatively simple compared to playing a videogame- even on the wii.
