So my computer just finished its automatic download of XP SP2, buy I am reluctant to install it because I've read that some people have had problems with various programs (mainly file sharing and games). So I was wondering if anyone has experienced any problems with their programs? I'm wondering if my Counter Strike and CSS Beta will be ok? Also has anyone had a problem with something like Bit Torrent. Any replies will be welcome, thanks!

I'm new to XP. Where can I even download Service Pack 2? I don't see it in Windows Update, but I'm still running SP1.

I've had it installed for about a week now and haven't had any problems whatsoever. I did turn off the Firewall and Antivirus options as soon as I rebooted though (ZoneAlarm and Norton handle that just fine). Other than that, I was using ABC over the weekend and didn't notice any problems nor have I seen any issues with any other things, excluding having to update ThemeXP and reset my login sounds...

You will probably have a problem with filesharing apps and hosting your own game server, but please don't turn off the firewall unless you have another one in place... It will take some work and research but you need to configure the built-in firewall so that your applications will work with it enabled.

Disabling the firewall without another one in its place just leaves you open the next time another MyDoom or Netski comes out.

It lets you config (and turn off) the firewall and other annoying...er...annoyances once SP2 is installed and you've restarted, so you can pretty much get rid of any problems immediately.

Man I think SP2 wont let me connect to Shareaza anymore...and I checked if the port for Shareaza is open on my router, and it is...I swear Service Pack 2 made my computer slower and made Shareaza not work.

Just turn on Automatic Updates. It will download in the background over the next few weeks.

Have you tried making an exception entry in the firewall?

I've had no problems at all with SP2...i turned off automatic updates and the firewall though....but the default pop-up blocker in IE makes me happy and i've started using the evil IE more and more since installing SP2

Your problem may be due to the limit of ten open ports as a security measure. P2P stuff tends to open tons of ports. You need to hack the registry to enable the amount needed.

I've had no problems whatsoever with SP2, but then again I had no problems before I installed it.

The new stuff in IE is nice, but I'm already hooked on Firefox and tabbed browsing.
