View Full Version : [DEAD] Best Buy: 24 Season 1 $16.99, Seasons 2-6 $1.99 each!

Indiana Jones

Just got back from Best Buy. This week every season of 24 is on sale there for $16.99 each. However, on the special edition of Season 1 is a manufacturer's coupon that is good for $15 off seasons 2-6 (up to a $75 value). So if you buy Season 1 special edition and use the coupon, you can get the rest of the seasons for $1.99 a pop!

You can apply the coupon on all the rest of the seasons? Wouldn't it be one use only?

yeah, need clarification can u get 15 off each season at once?

Indiana Jones
06-29-2008, 04:10 PM
The coupon itself says $15 off the rest of the seasons for up to $75 savings, $15 off per season.

And when the coupon is scanned at the Best Buy register, once the cashier accepts it the discount applies to the rest of the seasons.

unholy

It's $15 off ANY and EVERY season bought with season 1. I just got all six seasons half an hour ago, for $26.94 + tax TOTAL.

Edit: eh, beat me to it.

Indiana Jones

It's an automatic thing so you can buy them all at one time. And why would you need to use a copy? The coupon's on the front (outside) of every Season 1: Special Edition box.

Best Buy shouldn't care about the massive discount since they get their money back through the manufacturer. But once this happens at a store, I'm sure the cashier will think about grabbing 24 for him or herself.

It's attached to the season one special edition set.... and obviously, YMMV, but the discount would apply to the one transaction. So you'd be paying $16.99 for Season 1: Special Edition, and $1.99 for each other season set. With the coupon you can get all the sets for less than $30. Awesome deal.

Unfortunately, the manager at my Best Buy shot me down on this. Very unfair. I am going to try and go back to get in on the deal tomorrow.

Well I got all six seasons for $30, and so did unholy, so I'm not sure how you would doubt that it happened.

It's not like Best Buy is only getting $1.99 for seasons 2-6 -- they get the money refunded back to them when it comes to manufacturer coupons. The only way you can't get the deal is if the cashier freaks out about the discount and calls up a manager or something like that. At the store I went to, the register took the coupon fine, no need for supervisor override or anything.

Well I just got back and it worked for me as well. I got shot down at one Best Buy and they told me the same thing about a sale and an offer being considered the same thing. I then went to another best buy and it worked.

FYI.... The coupon WILL scan into the computer and automatically take $15.00 off every season 2-6. I saw the screen where it asks "are you sure you want to continue and apply coupon to every season." It said something to that effect but, sure enough it works. So maybe ask them to scan it so you can see for yourself. Good luck!

It was going to work for me also but I only ended up picking up the new season one set in the metal box for myself and a copy of season 6 for my brother-in-law, that was the only one he was missing. I figured I let BB slide on this on since I had all the season already and I wanted someone else to get in on the deal in my area.

True! Although, none of my stores have every set in stock. The one nearest to me is missing one set, and the other that is near too is missing another. Then the other stores are missing almost all of them =/

Someone should point out to a manager that online obviously accepts this offer (for one season at least) so why wouldn't the brick and mortor stores? Seems to me that if the website allows it then the stores should do the same thing. Of course logic like that will go right over their heads.

For those of you getting shot down, try this:

Do an in-store pickup with season 1 and one other for 1.99 on the website. When you get to the store, grab the rest of the seasons, walk up to the pickup counter and say, "I'd also like to buy these (other seasons)" when you get there and use the coupon. They'd be hard-pressed to argue that the coupon wouldn't work, right?

Got shot down as well.. and I did point to the web site. Since the web site only allow for Season 1 @16.99 plus ONE other season 2-6 (1.99), that's all I can get.

Paid $18.97 plus tax for Season 1 and Season 6.

Wanted to try to buy another set (Season 1 and Season 5), thinking maybe I can do a partial return (for Season 1 only).. but they already ran out of Season 1.
No go.

I think it is all YMMV.

I just did this at a store in Roseville, Michigan, definitely worked. I got Season 1 special edition, and then season 3 4 5 and 6 for $1.99 each. I couldn't get season 2 because they were out of it unfortunately, but I couldn't just go to another store because no other store had the special edition and thus the coupon. Guess I'll just buy season 2 for the sale price sometime this week.

Seriously, an amazing deal though, I've never seen 24, but heard enough about it to spend a couple jeffersons on the series :)

Sometimes Managers are stupid, so people will get denied. I will try, but I won't be surprised if I get shot down by a manager.

There are always going to be stupid managers and supervisors. One time, I went to a store and bought a video game. It went on sale at another store, so I brought the ad in to get the price difference refunded. The supervisor said he couldn't do that, that they only price match at the time of the sale and that he could lose his job if he pulled a stunt like that... even though in the electronics department there was a freaking large sign on the wall that said I could bring in a competitor's ad within 30 days of purchase to get the difference back!!!!!!!

Since I'm currently on vacation, unable to get to Best Buy, I was thinking of doing the deal online. Which of the seasons would you recommend me to get? I already own season 1 and 2, so 3 would be the logical answer, but I was wondering what opinions everyone else had.

Also, is it worth upgrading from the old sets to the newer thinpaks?

Stopped by my local Best Buy today and got the very last copies of seasons 2, 4, and 5 along with the SE of 1 and 6.

This is definitely one sweet deal - I think I've paid around $20 per season of 24 (already own them), but I couldn't pass this up. $6 more than the usual season price for Season 6 (haven't seen it yet), and I end up with everything but season 3.

These are gonna make a great gift for somebody.

BillyBob29
06-29-2008, 07:11 PM
Sounds like a sweet deal of those that don't already own the sets. I've already got them all.....well all of them I care to own, I wouldn't drop even $1.99 on Season 6.

Not really. If you already have the old sets, the only difference is season 1 which has the bonus extras (there're all in FullScreen anyway). Unless you really want to watch the extras (only has 26 mins) for Season 1, it is not worth to upgrade at this time. Perhaps, just get Season 4,5 and 6 since they're pretty good deal at $16.99 per box this week.

This is definitely good deal for those who have not collected any of the 24 box set yet.

Yeah, I'm planning to give away my existing season 1 to a friend who borrowed it and liked it. It was only $4 more to get season 1 with season 3 (next in chronological order), so I figured that was the best deal. I may do the same for season 4, maybe try and get someone else interested in the series.

$17 isn't a bad price for a season, considering I picked up my first two at $20 (which was also a good deal).

Was going to post about this deal, but then I saw this thread.

T'was spooky, me and the wife just went into Best Buy to kill some time and saw the 24 seasons for $16.99, and since I needed season 4, figured what the heck. Then the wife notices the $15 instant rebate on the S1 SE.

She opened the coupon and noticed that you got $15 off ALL other seasons (up to $75 value) so I grabbed all the sets and asked the cashier if the coupon did indeed work on all seasons. He scanned them all in, then the coupon and 2-6 came up at $1.99 each.

Bargain-a-rama!

So, since I already have S1, is the S1 SE *that* much better than the original?

BTW, Evansville, IN was the store this worked at, they had all 6 seasons at about 4pm when I bought mine.

I wonder how accurate the tracker is. There are not many copies and no Season 1 copies within a couple hundred miles of me according to the tracker. Around here, I'd be lucky to get them to honor what the coupon says though. People are cheap in these parts and when they think someone is getting a good deal that they are missing out on, they will deny you the deal no matter how plain the wording is.
At least it's not CC though, because they are the worst about it. They'll make up a story just to avoid giving a sale price.

I'd love to get a few sets and give them as presents (people would flip out thinking of the fortune that I must've paid, LoL). But if this deal even flies here, they'd probably bust me when I came to checkout with three or four sets of the series and tell me "No resellers" or some BS like that. Oh well, they probably just pulled what they had from the shelves and put them in the back until the sale is over. They do that here a lot as well...

One thing people need to remember about the in-stock indicator with BB. Bear with me, as this isn't a quick explanation.

When an item is showing as available as order able for in-store pickup from BB.com, it's because their inventory is showing more than three copies of that item in-stock. If the item is showing as unavailable as an in-store pickup order on BB.com, it's due to two things:

1) The inventory on that item has gone to three or less showing in-stock. At this point, the website gets a message from the in-store inventory that there isn't any items in-stock to prevent issue with the item being ordered and not being present, because people may be checking out with the items or have them on-hand.
2) Whoever in the ops group of BB that is going to pick the item for fulfilling the in-store pickup can't find the item, even if there's dozens of them on-hand. If they can't find the item, they assume there's none on-hand, and marks the item as "No Pick", which means they have no more of the item. In-store inventory could show something different by calling the store, though BB.com sees it as out of stock. The only way this can be fixed is by someone in ops removing the "No Pick" status for that SKU, which shows it in-stock if there's more than three of them on-hand, and still unavailable if there's 0-3 of them on-hand.

Basically, even if BB.com shows the item(s) as unavailable, there might be 0-3 of them on-hand in the store, and only a call to the store to check in RSS with the SKU # of the item would show true real-time, to-the-second inventory.

Hope that helps clear things up.

Wow. You're amazing, Shrike.I learned all the ins-and-outs of how that works when they had a promotion on BB.com that would get you a $10 RZ cert for any order on BB.com. I ordered a pack of batteries, and it turned into a comedy of errors from that point forward.

Hope that helped explain how BB.com's in-store pickup works.

The Mission Valley location in San Diego mysteriously had the $15 coupons peeled off of the boxes. Methinks a manager was afraid of the deal or employees kept it for themselves.

for anyone who's seen the coupon does the 15 off work with the scan of the coupon or does the 1st season need to be purchased at the same time with everything else to work? I'm just thinking that I could save the aggravation and PM the 1st season at walmart and get the coupon form it then take the coupon to BB and get the rest of the seasons. That way I know I can find the first season and get the rest at a steal without having to deal with the shady shit that the previous poster encountered at his store.

Got in on the deal, barely.

Girl at register scanned all the sets and then just typed in -$15. I told her it was for all seasons and to scan it, but it didn't scan.

Then she called over a manager (oh crap) who said it was for 1 season. I pointed out the $75 limit. She said if it doesn't scan, we don't accept it. Then she asked if they were on sale (not looking good....).

Cashier suggested voiding and ringing it up again (Yay) so we did that and scanned the coupon right away. It worked. She scanned the rest of the seasons and hit Yes to the popup. Total was $28.

Here comes the kicker.
"See sir? It only took off $15 from one season."
"Yes, i see........That's ok, ill take them anyway"

Gave her a $10 RZ cert.
"Ok, total is $17"

The manager was standing behind her the whole time, but never said anything.
I got the last complete 1-6 seasons set too. Wooohooo

You know you get a good deal when the cashier is amazed. I got all 6 seasons. Was worried when she took it to her boss, but he just kinda glanced at it I guess, or didn't have a stick up his butt about the whole "cannot be combined with other offers" thing. It worked out in the end. Thanks so much for this.

Awesome.

Shrike - you were right, my store had multiple copies of all 6 seasons even tho the website said they only had season 2. So definitely ignore what the website says & check for yourself!

Pooky - your story helped too. Cashier rang up the sets first, then tried to scan the coupon & when it wouldn't go just manually punched in $15 off. I corrected her politely, so she starts scrutinizing the coupon. I suggested she try scanning the coupon first, then the sets, and she just gives me "the look" and calls her supervisor over.

Her supervisor was VERY friendly, much more so than the cashier. I explained everything to her, including the "scan the coupon first" part, and she smiles and tells the cashier "why don't we try that?" You could tell the cashier was thrilled. :-P The supervisor cancels out the first transaction, then as the cashier is rescanning everything (coupon first) she steps away for a minute. It rings up correctly this time, and as I'm paying the supervisor comes back over and says "did it work?" The cashier just nods - the supervisor looks at the register and goes "Wow, it took $72 off!" The cashier then makes some snap about the supervisor initializing the reciept so "it won't come back to bite me."

So thanks again guys - all 6 season for $29.xx after tax, incredible deal!

I just had success in Bridgewater, NJ store. They didn't have Seasons 2 and 6, but I got all the rest for $3.50(I had RZ Certs). The coupon language is VERY clear. This coupon does not say you can only buy 1 additional season. It states that you can use on any other seasons (2-6), up to $75 value.

When the coupon was typed in, it even asked the cashier, if they wanted to use it on all other items. IMHO, any staff that says it cannot be used is completely misinterpreting. I know BB stores are YMMV, as are many other retailers-but in this case it's crystal clear. Good Luck!

They didn't have any coupons at my BB. I remembered reading here that there was a coupon but when I got there I didn't notice any.

I did notice a sign relating to the coupon however, and when I brought all 6 seasons up that was my main bargaining tool. After convincing them it worked online, a manager came and altered the price on all my dvds. Total = ~$26 for all 6 seasons. This deal rules.

On a side note, my friend and fellow CAGer tried hitting this deal up a couple hours after I did. He brought up the fact that I was able to walk away with all 6 for cheap and was wondering why they weren't allowing him to do it. They said "After your friend came and noticed the sign + the sale on 24 we removed the sign and aren't offering it in store any longer. You can try online if you want."

Such a hassle today, but completely worth it.

wow, this is a really shady move on best buy's part. A manufacturer's coupon should have no direct influence on a sale price. I was almost tempted to buy S1&2 online, now I feel cheated. If this were a mail-in rebate instead of an instant coupon, there'd be no problems with obtaining a copy or hoarders.

Saw this deal on SD, got one set yesterday and then went back this afternoon and picked up another set for a friend. Managed to get the same cashier and she just said "Decided to come back for some more?" She read the coupon pretty carefully the first time but saw no issues and just rang it all up this time. I haven't watched 24 since S1 so this is a great deal to get back into watching! Just wanted to let people know that this is still alive if you can find the S1 SE box with a coupon!

I had to put my Black DEVIL may cry tshirt and green CAG armband on for this one. (+5 Luck, +2 Stealth)

I saw something very interesting as I went into the DVD section. An employee had a rolling cart with all the SE Season 1 24 DVD sets on it, and he was methodically peeling the coupon stickers off the front, putting the sets back on the shelf, and placing the stickers on the edge of the cart.

Thinking quickly, I said hi, and asked where hard-drives were. As he turned around to point at the section, I quickly palmed two stickers. I ran into a little problem at the register because the clerk couldn't believe the price, but when she called the manager over, she kind of grimaced at me and said to process the sale. Pretty sure I was outed as a "devil customer"

From the sounds of the way BB is handling this, there will be new stock midweek, but there won't be a single coupon sticker to be found nationwide.

Best idea so far was Loserboy's to visit another retailer (Wal-mart, Target, or FYE) and snag a coupon off of one of their S1 tins to use at BB when they restock sans stickers.

DO YOU NEED TO BUY S1 FOR THE COUPON TO WORK WITH THE OTHER SEASONS?:

Its in the lower left hand corner. There is a layer left behind when you pull off the coupon. Then there is residue if you pull off that last layer. Sounds like the other retailers may not have the coupon?

I might go back over thursday and check. Then again i could always rip of the sticker and return season 1 and try to get

Prison break season 2 and 24 season 6 for less then 20 : )

It's not worth the pain and monotony. For those of you that want to get caught up on season 6 without having to watch it: Jack has an evil brother and father that we never knew about, they die. Audrey was caught snooping around for Jack by the Chinese and they captured her. Jack got her back but now she's nuts. LA got nuked (the first four episodes were actually great, but after the nuke hits in episode 4 there's no reason to keep watching). CTU still sucks without Mason or Chapelle.

I went to go pick up my in-store pickup order of 24 S1 SE and 24 S6 and found that they screwed up the order. :-s

They pulled S1 instead of S1 SE. Normally, this would be a bad thing, as they didn't have any more S1 SE's on the floor, though the CS rep did find another one at another store. They're doing an inter-store transfer on it, and it should be there Thursday morning. Best part is that since they screwed up the pull of the items, I get my $10 off the order. :D So, I'll end up with S1 SE and S6 for $6.99 + $1.99 + tax. :D

He said employees took them when they were almost sold out and a few of them even stashed seasons for themselves in the back.

That's what's commonly referred to as "Employee Benefits".

ineedstuffhelp: The regular $16.99 sale price is part of the weekly ad, should be good until Saturday night. Due to all these newfound shenanigans, if you only want to partake of the nice sale price try to get a raincheck for the seasons you want.

At the Chesapeake BB I got all 6 seasons for 26 then walked next door to the movie stop that I worked at and traded them in for 90. With my discount I was able to buy 120 worth of stuff for the 26 that I spent.

No love at the Winston-Salem, NC store. Season 1 did not have the coupon although the display card on the rack had the deal. S1 rang up as $49.95 and then $16.95 for all the other seasons. I tried explaining the deal to the clerk but no luck.

Why didn't season one ring up on sale? Couldn't you have shown the weekly ad? And did you try to get the coupon deal without the coupon? That seems rather silly.

Anyone that is having problems finding them, look in the "normal" tv dvd section. I found all 4 copies at my store there, instead of with the Fox dvds. However, coupon isn't working in Fargo. Wouldn't apply the discount and the bitch of a manager was a complete duche about it.

No go here. Cashier tried scanning box sets first then coupon. I asked her to scan the coupon first then the sets. Instead she calls the supervisor over and I knew I was going to have problems because this is the same supervisor that at one time said I couldn't use an emailed Rewardzone certificate. Anyways, he just said to take $15 off, to which I told him it should be off each additional set to $75. I asked him to try to void the transaction and start over with scanning the coupon first. He seemed reluctant to do so, but he did. However, after scanning the coupon then the box sets, the total was still at $109.xx with no sign of any money taken off. He said he could give me the discount off one but "I'm not gonna give you a discount on each." I'm pretty sure he scanned the secondary barcode on the coupon and not the main one. I was pretty irritated at this point so I just told him that I was gonna forego the purchase. However, I did get the coupon back from him and will try my luck at the other stores in the area. Congrats to the CAGs who got it and good luck to the rest of us.

By the way, is there any specific order for the box sets to be scanned? It would be nice to know some info before I journey out again later this week.

I love you TC, thank you for pointing this out and making this an awesome way to spend $28.

And I just opened up the copy of Season 1 and everything's in tact, so no problems there.

And it took me a good 20 minutes for them to check everything over, call over the MOD, and finally say they had to do it. Awesome :D

And I got the last copy of the S1 SE, and they mentioned it there too, so they wouldn't have to do this again or whatever, hah.

All these differing stories are odd. At my BB, the cashier scanned all the box sets, scanned the coupon, a popup screen appeared and he accepted the coupon, $75 off no problem.

07-01-2008, 03:45 PM
Well he looked over the coupon thing, and took $15 off one of the sets, I pointed everything out to him, and finally had to walk him over to the Fox DVD display where it said on one of the yellow tabs, "Buy 24 SE S1 and get $15 off each additional season."

It all worked out in the end, so I'm happy.

Both sets I got were all dvd's scanned first then cashier scanned coupon. A screen popped up, she clicked yes, and the discount appeared. The first time there was an issue with the coupon not scanning but it seemed she was having trouble with the two barcodes. Once she covered one of the barcodes everything worked fine.

I might've gotten the last S1 SE, and I didn't see a coupon, but there was a tag on the shelf that showed:

Buy Season 1 and get $15 off ANY season.

I grabbed them up took them to the register. They all scanned at $16.99. I mentioned to the cashier the 'deal' and she called someone to check. Needless to say, it took about 15 minutes but they finally ok'd it and had someone do a price override.

The cashier was nice and everything was fine. Now I got some 24 to watch.

Nope - as long as the coupon is scanned first, they can scan the sets in any order. I know, because the girl scanned mine in no order whatsoever (and she didn't scan season 1 first) and it still worked.

Why didn't season one ring up on sale? Couldn't you have shown the weekly ad? And did you try to get the coupon deal without the coupon? That seems rather silly.

They didn't have any copies of S1 in the tin so I never saw the physical coupon. There was a card on the shelf that said when you buy S1 you get $15 off each additional season so I thought I was okay without the coupon. When I told her this, she said they were already on sale so it didn't count. She did notice that S1 was ringing up incorrectly for the full price and she did fix that.

Thanks for the heads up, the wife and I were able to take advantage of this.

Was worried that I would have to explain things to the cashier, but the guy had had someone do the deal the day before, so when some slight difficulty appeared (the coupon didn't seem to take any money off anything), I had his backing with the manager that it was the way the deal was supposed to work.

The manager quickly did a 1.99 price override on all the seasons but season 1.

I went to both Mission Valley and Chula Vista locations in San Diego. The coupon scanned, but it had no effect. The coupon is now time-delayed until July 6. The CV manager showed me a copy of this email. However, CV still had "Save $15 on each additional season (2-6) of 24 when you buy 24 (Season 1)" on the shelf. After calling 1.888.BESTBUY and being on hold for an eternity, the CSR spoke to the manager and said to let me have it w/o coupon. The MV location did not have the "Save $15" banner.

I attempted to use the scan from page 29, and it scanned properly, but the system didn't give me the discount.

Tried to get the deal at the Tigard, OR store, but there was no Season 1 SE at all. However, they still had a sign that said the deal. Even though I quoted the sign, they still wouldn't sell me the regular Season 1 for $16.99 and 2-6 for $1.99. I didn't really put up much of an effort to get them to let me have it for the right price. Instead, I just let them put the DVDs back themselves. I did start a discussion because my cashier had to ask others and about 5 employees were in a circle discussing it infront of the 24 DVDs. Oh well.

I'm not sure if the coupon is dead, but I went to my BB yesterday evening (where they had a S1SE on hold for me). The coupon had been taken off the box (I had asked on the phone to verify that the coupon was still attached). When I asked about it I was told that a 'flash' or something was sent out to all BBs telling the stores NOT to accept the coupon. I also saw the message stuck on the wall in the CS area. I'm not sure if its a computer change or not, so at this point YMMV....

I don't think that coupon has appeared on recent shipments of the C.E. of season 1....my guess is they just didn't think this through all the way and never thought there'd be enough coupons floating out there to make a difference...Whoops, guess they don't read CAG.

I love these shows but not to the point where I want to spend $100 to get all seasons. There was one, last September, if I remember right. Took $10 off any Fox DVD set, and some people used it to go nuts and pick up entire series on the cheap. So, you guys could try this I just approached the manager before I got in line and showed him everything and he said sure and told me to go in the closest line so he could approve it. Sometimes I find if you tell them before hand while they aren't busy it's not such a surprise to them and they are more likely to see that it a legit price match plus coupon instead of dismissing it.

Thanks to you guys at CAG, I snagged this deal last Tuesday... well most of it. The manager was pretty stupid and did a lot of screwy things, and I ended up having to pay $16.99 for another season. Somehow the discount was at $67 or so after applying it 4 of them, and since it was a $75 value, she couldn't apply it to the last one. Really messed up. I tried to fight it but she wouldn't budge. Still being an amazing deal I swallowed my pride and paid $44 for all 6 seasons. I definitely appreciate it a lot more now since I just read here that they took away the deal. It makes me feel like I conquered BB, which is slowly becoming a money-grubbing hell hole in my eyes.

Alright this was an insane deal. I went to Meijer tonight to try to get my father a set of the first four seasons. They had the season 1 tin with coupon on it. I had about $400 total in my purchase tonight. I took in my BestBuy ad and they matched the $16.99 price. Then they took off the $15 per season coupon (in looking at my receipt they took it off for season one as well for whatever reason). Apparently they have an instore coupon for $3 off each item over $15 that they scanned at the register (it took the price off about 10-15 different items in total) and it came off each of the sets of 24 that I only paid $1.99 for. So just do the math. It was an insane deal that I didn't even realize I had till I got home.

That is just crazy.

I got my sets in the mail - and my Season 1 set still has the $15 coupon attached - meaning BestBuy won't be sending it in for redemption from FOX.

This goes well with the theory that FOX was discounting the DVD sets and simply told BB they wouldn't honor BB's stacking of the offers.
