The Unofficial Casual MGO playas (aka the 360 CAGCOD4 guys, others welcome)

I'm setting up this thread for the group of CAG COD4 Xbox360 regulars that have decided to try out playing Metal Gear Online (MGO) together. I also wanted to separate MGS4 discussion from this thread since they are almost 2 different games and some haven't completed MGS4 yet :D

Others are welcome to join but I wanted to have a separate thread from the main MGO/MGS4 thread for those of us who play a little more casually (heard the main MGO CAG clan are real badasses ;-).
I will probably setup a clan in MGO if we can get some regulars.

Please post the following info:

PSN = <insert your PSN name>

MGO = <insert your MGO name> (not your Konami ID or your Konami Game ID but MGO character name)
Headset = <yes/no>


NOTE: This whole PSN/Konami/Konami Game ID/MGO name deal is a bit confusing and convoluted. So, in #2 above I am referring to the name that you have given your MGO character when you went through the whole character creation step of MGO to setup what your character looks like. It just so happens that my PSN and MGO names are identical to eachother but different from my Konami ID and Konami Game ID. Something else unconfirmed is that someone commented that the person you are adding may actually have to be online in the game for them to be added.

Yes, I would like to play tonight given my latest COD4 woes....probably won't be able to get on until around 11pm CST or so......at least now we can access the XMB/Friends list in game!

Also, I think that comment that the person has to be in-game in MGO for you to add them to your MGO friends list is starting to hold water because I tried a couple last night and was presented with an error.....very strange setup.

Not sure if you have to stick to one clan, or if you can join multiple, or if that requires you buy a new character slot from Konami, or what the case is......looks like Simon is already part of the "CAG" clan FriskyTanuki setup :cry:

well, i dunno if you heard, but mine crapped out on me this morning while we were playing, so i don't know what to do :/

i'll see if it works in some other online games, like GRAW2, or Unreal 3, and then get back to you. and if it does not, then i might have to suffer with my MC2 one, or return it to gamestop.

and this morning was tight. i pushed my K/D ratio to positive, and went from level 0->2. and i am close to finishing my Assult skill to level 1. w00t!!!

Blood, how do you know where you are with leveling up your skills? Also, how were you getting so many damn headshots?

Also, I figured out after everyone left how exactly I am supposed to enable Drebin points (should make for some interesting play) and found some smaller maps for us to play on.

I could hear that you guys were talking, but I couldn't really make out any of the words except for in the lobbies. once I figured out how to text chat in the lobby it wasn't so bad. Yeah, that was my fault because I just used pretty much the default server settings and didn't realize that I needed to "enable" (thanks to Sean I believe who mentioned this) Drebin points which you earn in the matches like in MGS4 and can then spend them to upgrade the weapons. I also found some smaller maps for us to play on since that damn warehouse map was just too freaking big.

Also, there are some other cool game modes I saw such as where 1 person plays as Snake against everybody else and an escort mission where you have to protect a critical player on your team.

I also discovered that CQC is a pain in the ass to pull off and I was using the CQC skill.

Blood, if you hold down select for say 5 or 10 seconds you should eventually get a "Voice Chat On" that shows up and stays on the left hand side of the screen kind of just below the half-way vertical point on your screen.

crunchb3rry, I have yet to even finish the first Act but I haven't seen any spoilers in MGO since they are pretty much 2 different games. Having said that nobody better talk any MGS4 in-game on MGO!

Heh, I've completely forgotten what the hell happened in MGS1 and 2 since it's been years since I played them and I never got around to even taking the shrink wrap off of my copy of MGS3!

BTW, great game with Simon and Khondor this afternoon. It is a much more fun experience now that I changed the maps and enabled Drebin points. Did you not turn on voice-chat khondor?

I just beat it last month - took me about 14 hours, but I took my sweet time going through it. The game still holds up, minus the graphics, IMO.

I know it is listed in the OP, but someone want to give me a quick tip so I don't have to scour Konami or the MGS website. How the hell do you use the headset? I have it paired and everything, just can't figure it out from there on out.

You have to hold down the "Select" button until you see the "Voice Chat On" text show up on the left-hand side of the screen about half-way down or so. If you cannot even hear others then try going through the options menu to play around with the voice chat/headset settings. Speaking of, I only have a few days left to decide whether or not to keep my MGS4 bluetooth headset. This old wired SOCOM headset is pretty meh.

Wet Ninja, you can go through the MGO tutorials that give you the run-down of the controls in-game or they also have training servers where you can learn with other people and there is supposedly a host instructor.

Yeah, as Khondor said, there are tutorials in-game. There are also tutorial servers that have real-people teachers and other people trying to learn. Pretty cool idea IMHO, although I haven't tried the hosted tutorials myself, just the built-in scripted tutorials.

I would take the MGS 4 headset back and just use the wired Socom one until Socom Confrontation comes out in Oct. The retail version of that game will have the new official Sony Blutooth headset and it really looks nice.
