Since the trophy system was just launched with firmware 2.40, it seemed better that instead of just confining discussion to the update thread, that trophies deserved its own organized thread to keep track of what games do and don't support the system as it grows. More info on trophies themselves can be found here (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/06/30/firmware-v240-walkthrough-part-2-trophies/)at the PS Blog, which also includes a video walkthrough.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the required points to get to each level?

Using the Bronze = 1 point, Silver = 2 points, and Gold = 6 points scale:

Level 2: ~13 points
Level 3: 40 points
Level 4: 70 points
Level 5: 160 points
Level 6: ~267 points
Level 7: ~394 points
Level 8: ~533 points
Level 9: ~667 points

How do I get my trophies to sync to PSN and show up on my profile?

If you're playing a game at the moment, push the PS button, go to your friends list, compare trophies with a friend, and click on your PSN name to confirm that it's up to date now. If you're not in a game, just click on the trophy icon in the games tab of the XMB and it should sync right there, so check your PSN profile to confirm that it's up to date.

Are trophies retroactive?

For the most part, they're not. Because Sony wants everyone to start collecting trophies at an equal starting point, they made sure that saves needed to be locked down to the console/profile to combat the gamesaving issues that the Xbox 360's achievement system suffered from. It'll be on a game-by-game basis with games like Warhawk offering some retroactive trophies and others like Mainichi Issho being fully retroactive.

Will all games support trophies eventually?

As far as every game that's already out, no, but going forward, Sony is likely requiring all of 2009's releases to support trophies, though a large number of this fall's releases will have trophy support, as well. Just keep an eye on the OP for updated news on what titles definitely will or will not be supporting games.

Is there a limit on how many trophies can be given by each game?

Yes. Using the 1,2,6 point scale, downloadable games have 21 points to spread around while their DLC packs can add an additional 6 points. Retail games can have 70 points to use and 12 points per DLC pack. I haven't heard if there's a known value attached to platinum trophies since they also add to your total, but I will add to this if I see that info.

Are DLC required to get platinum trophies?

It depends upon the game, as Warhawk doesn't require the booster packs for the platinum, but I imagine if developers don't care, that it could be done that way like 360 games change the max amount of points for a game to 1250 when the DLC is released, whether you own the DLC or not.

Are platinum trophies offered for all games?

No, for the majority of downloadable games, you will not be able to get platinum trophies. The platinum is mainly for retail games and the largest of the PSN games, like Wipeout HD.

Are there any official Sony trophy cards or other automatic ways to see what trophies I've earned when I'm away from the PS3?

Yes, Sony just recently started fleshing out the features for their regional sites to give you a better view of the trophies you've earned in a browser. First, SCEA has added a Trophy page (http://www.us.playstation.com/MyAccount/Trophies.aspx) to your profile on http://us.playstation.com that lets you see the trophies for each game and the overall level in a nicely designed page.

SCEE has leapfrogged over SCEA with actual trophy cards that are updated automatically. Anyone with a PSN account for any region can sign up for a card here (https://secure.eu.playstation.com/psn/mypsn/myportableid/) and all you need to do is sign in with your PSN account's email/password combo, select to create a new account on the SCEE site, unless you already had an SCEE site account, and you should just need to check off the "Show Trophy Information" option on the portable ID page to get your card. You can pick a game to personalize the card on the right side, a favorite game, and emotion for the card as a means of personalization and it will show the last three games you've earned trophies in. Use the BB code to put it in your signature on CAG and it will look something like this:

http://mypsn.eu.playstation.com/psn/profile/CrashSpyro.png (http://uk.playstation.com/psn/profile/CrashSpyro/)

Another nice feature of SCEE's revamped profile page is that you can now see your friends' trophy levels and progress here (https://secure.eu.playstation.com/psn/mypsn/friends/), though you can't get check out what games they've played or what specific trophies they've earned yet.

Are there any websites that allow people to keep track of their trophies, maybe with a PSN card to put in my signature?

Not to the extent that it could be done automatically like the way Xbox.com or MyGamerCard.net does it, but there are manual sites that let you check off the trophies you do have for your own interest. The people behind the Xbox360 Achievements site have a PS3 version of the same site called PS3Trophies (http://www.ps3trophies.org/index.php), though they do not have their own card that you can put in your signature, but they do have forums for each trophy game that you can get help from for specific trophies and games. If you're looking for a PS3 trophy card like what MyGamercard offers, Playfire (http://www.playfire.com/) would be your best best. They require you to check off all of the trophies you've earned yourself, but they are collected into a nice profile that is really nice if you sign-up or you can just pick out the trophies and generate a card without signing up, but you'll probably have to do that everytime you want an updated card.

Feel free to offer suggestions for tweaks to the format and post info and links on other games that are going to be supported or not. Thanks.

I don't have the Solo Pack and I can see those trophies.

Who said Ratchet won't have trophies? I thought it was going to have trophies.

Does it matter what difficulty it is on for the trophies? I'll admit, I find easy on SSHD to be a decent challenge.

Thanks. Click the link for Resistance, which covers both games.

Happy: Not sure. Easiest way to test it, if you haven't done much of anything yet, is to start up an easy arcade mode and see if you get a trophy for beating Lave.

Definitely. I'd say it's the best dual-stick shooter out there. There's a demo in the PS Store so you can try it out for yourself.

Well you can get them on easy, I played a bit and I have four or five trophies, haven't looked to see if my level went up.

SSHD is a great game, especially for the $3 or so it costs through gamesharing.

Anyone else think 250MB is a little big just for the trophy update on SSHD? Could we be looking at the next expansion pack soon?

Anyway, Novastrike has trophies coming in August. Link (http://tikigames.net/NOVASTRIKE/update_20080623.php).

I believe SSHD essentially makes you redownload the entire game + updates whenever it has an update. Plus, the Team Pack add-on's in the in-game store now, so it may be released this week.

Hmmm so Warhawk will have some that are retroactive. Guess I should start picking it back up again and play. Have been meaning to do so anyways, just some extra motivation.

I tried it once or twice, the easiest way seems to be using bombs only on the bomb ships and then you get 2 for using one. The other potential way is to hope the red mine things blow up the bomb ship, but that would probably be even harder.

So...will all trophies be retroactive? I have seen information for games where they will be, but haven't seen that all games will act this way.

I say this because I just finished MGS4, and am ready to start Uncharted. But, I don't want to play that if the eventual trophies aren't retroactive.

If I were you guys I'd wait til SSHD's team pack shows up in the store and not through the demo. I bought SSHD back in January through the demo and now the full game (Which I paid for) doesn't show up in my downloads list or in the PS store as purchased. Why has COD4 never been patched with Rumble?IW doesn't really care, because they don't make money for adding it (they are good at making games, but terrible when it comes to support many times). They said they designed the game where patching it wasn't technically possible unless they redo the whole game.

I think it's a matter of them and Activision don't care because it doesn't bring money, and Activision/IW want to stick to their new game right now and forget CoD4 (they aren't like Criterion, who is awesome with support).

New life and sales, maybe .... but they have a small window of opportunity. If they can get the trophies in, in the next few months then it will be worth it. After that though most games will start incorporating them and it won't be as 'new'.

Everything so far makes sense. The games that have had updates during their life spans will be getting trophies.

If Sony doesn't want to help with the old stuff that is one thing, but if stuff like Ghostbusters and Fallout 3 lack trophies then they will officially suck in my book.

The Mana Knight
07-06-2008, 10:18 AM
How do you propose Sony force 3rd parties to go back and patch old games? The problem is, Sony cannot technically force third parties developers to patch old games with trophies, because they are already out (and approved by Sony). And like I said, many developers (except a few these days) aren't too kind about continuing to support games unless they are making money or they basically aren't doing anything (most developers have moved onto new projects). Sony isn't going to tell developers you cannot support PS3 if you don't do it, because they need the third party support. I also feel what may hurt some games getting patched (especially from third parties) is that in order to release a patch, they MUST get it approved and certified to release in 2-3 regions separately (that's just how PSN works, and Sony has NO plans of every going global for reasons (I don't have the link on me for the reason)). And for some developers, going through the ENTIRE game takes takes. Testing the ENTIRE game again takes time. Getting 2-3 approvals takes time. If it was ready for retail (trophies), then it's not much of a problem.

As for DMC4, I'm not sure if I'm right here, DMC4 MIGHT not have been setup to work with patches. Some may think I'm lying, but I remember several older PS3 games and some more recent single player games cannot easily be patched (due to a developer not leaving in hooks or whatever to allow for patching). Part of the reason I know this is because the entire reason VF5 did not get online patched (or even some later Arcade stuff patched) was because the game wasn't setup for them (the game wasn't even setup to look for an online connection). DMC4 might have the setup, but I know for sure some PS3 games didn't. PSN games, even if they were not setup for patches, can be because they'll have you re-download the entire PSN game again (which is updated, like Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD, Toy Home, etc.) to implement features.

And what Eric Lempel said was:
We are working with developers to ensure that Trophies are supported across the board in the future.
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/06/30/firmware-v240-faq/

The REASON trophies are NOT mandatory right now is:
-Developers have ONLY had them in development kits since ONE month ago. When did the announcement about trophies being in development kits come?? Back in late May/Early June. There is NO way developers can get the implemented (into games that had nothing previously set) and get it fully tested in one month.
-Only SOME developers know how to utilize them (even if you give developers a set of instructions, that still doesn't technically show them how to use them, and there are developers who only speak particular languages).
-Sony (like Eric Lempel has said) is STILL in the process of going door to door to EVERYONE developer teaching them how to utilize trophies in-games. Some developers they've already taught, some still yet have to be taught. Sony has to teach developers because there might be some "imbalance" because a developer thought he could put all gold trophies (and maybe didn't include a platinum trophy in retail).

Will trophies be standard?? Most likely yes, but not until later in the year (helping hundreds of developers isn't exactly a day and night thing). Sony recently made rumble standard (once all developers got it in their development kits) which is why many newer games are starting to support it?

When will be see more games support trophies??? Most likely September, because games which are coming out in July/August (or most) have already finished production (or nearing) and are entering the testing phase. Unless a developer added their OWN achievement system in a way, a developer would have to go through the entire game again to make trophies work.

The problem is that PS3 fans demanded there be some achievement system, so they got it. Just by looking at Game Trailers, PS3 Forums, etc., I got sick of seeing a thread everyday about it for a while. I don't really care personally (I was happy being able to download game saves).
*Wonders how long TMK is going to blame third party companies and their fancy profit margins before he admits that Sony half-assed the trophy system.*

Also, is there something special you have to do to unlock trophies in SSHD? I beat the first planet the other night in arcade mode and I did not get anything.
I rather level up then gain meaningless points. And not it's actually a pretty good idea, just came a bit late.

Did you update to 4.00? The 4.00 update for SSD HD was removed along with 2.4 update. Anyway, you haven't even got a trophy to see how cool it is.

If Sony doesn't want to help with the old stuff that is one thing, but if stuff like Ghostbusters and Fallout 3 lack trophies then they will officially suck in my book.I think there's a chance they'll get trophies due to being October releases (and their games aren't complete).

But seriously to everyone, would have rather have trophies implemented, even if a little late, or would you rather Sony say screw you, we are never implementing them?

This is somewhat like third party demos on the PS Store. There were no third party demos until late Feb./Early March of 2007. There wasn't a decent number of third party demos until August. The reason was Sony was working with developers to bring demos to the PS Store. Same thing about trophies, they are working with developers on implementing them. They'll come to more games, and will pretty much be standard by December/2009 (since all games coming out by then still have a ways to go in development, so it's not like it would be a pain to implement them).

PJM will most likely have support, like the developers said, but will not come until they finish Eden.

EDIT: When reading the PS3 Fanboy article, it says:
There is a tiny bit of good news though, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix may have trophies implemented, but it will depend on "what schedules look like and what Sony's requirements are." The only real good news is future games from Capcom will all have trophies, as it has "been worked into CEI's developer contracts as a required deliverable." Have other publishers signed such a contract?
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/07/05/capcom-no-trophy-support-for-devil-may-cry-4/

Adding trophies to games almost about to be released is similar to if you were almost finished with cooking dinner, and a friend asks you if you want to go out to eat for dinner. Although going out to eat for dinner will be nice, you really can't do it since you already started cooking and it's almost done. If you knew about going out to eat before you started cooking, most likely you would go out to eat. If trophies were in the development kits around the time development started, it's pretty much a guarantee they'd have trophies. Also, I do see many multi-platform games getting trophies because most devs WANT to make their game as similar to the 360 version as possible, since in no way do multi-platform games want sales to be heavily skewed in one way (they want all versions to do well). Devs have to implement achievements in 360 games, so most likely they'll implement them in the PS3 version in a similar way.

I know everyone wanted Sony to get this out, but I think they just expected a little more support for trophies on day one than just one game. Same with in game music, except nothing supports it yet. I can't wait for future support, but man...there's just not much to do right now.

Also sucks for me since I procrastinated and got SSHD after Sony pulled the patch, so I can't even get those yet :(

Extremely weak, indeed. It's one thing to go in and retrofit a game to recognize certain trophy conditions, but if your game already does that, I don't understand how hard it is to just layer something else on top of it.

Of course, developer time is developer time.

Really doubtful. Games generally dont change going from the original to platinum line. There are sometimes exceptions, like Lost Planet Colonies or DMC 3 on the PS2. Maybe if the dev wanted to pick up a few extra sales they could toss them in, but I don't see many doing it.

My point about the Platinum Hits argument was that if Sony made Trophies a requirement down the line, would it mean that Trophies would be a requirement in those games, meaning that since it's the same game, trophies would be implemented in past games via update?

Capcom could put trophies in DMC4 after rereading it. But it's not a very good sign. Maybe Sony should do it if developers allowed them to.

I think that's why they call it split-screen co-op and not online co-op. ;) I'll be getting it for the music-generation-based game mode in the add-on.

The PAIN post (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/07/08/pain-amusement-park-first-trailer-and-preview/)on the PS Blog confuses the fuck out of me because it makes it seem like the trophies are stuck to the new level DLC, either that you'll need to buy it to get the trophy update or that it's not coming out until then.

Either way, the Bionic Commando Rearmed post (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/07/09/bionic-commando-rearmed-psn-features-revealed/comment-page-1/#comment-83708)on the PS Blog suggests that trophies will probably be coming to the game sometime after the game's launched.

I beat a planet and didn't get a trophy :(
And yes, I got 2.40, patches SSHD, and played on arcade.

But whatever, I'll try again.

Havent read all the way throught the thread yet so forgive if this has already been addressed. For those who have earned trophys but they are not showing up try leaving the game and then relaunching it, then check again for the trophy via the in game XMB.

I had the same problem and this seemed to remove the monkey wrench.

Being both a 360 and a PS3 owner, I am quite a bit disappointed to see a lack of support right after the release of the 2.40/2.41 update. If I'm reading this correct, only one game currently has support for trophies, and that is Super Stardust HD. Can I get a raise of hands of people who actually play this, or still play it? I mean, c'mon, Sony. Why include a feature if such a miniscule percentage of your available library supports it? I feel that they should have teased us with the trophy system, but didn't actually release support for it until a lot more games were patched to include it, or made it mandatory that any games after X date had to support trophies.

How am I supposed to brag to my friends about my kickass gaming skills when I don't even know if my favorite game will be supported by this trophy system? This kinda seems really backwards to me. In my opinion, I think Sony should have waited to include this in a future firmware update.

I have to say that the 360 achievements have certainly influenced me to hold onto and go back and play through my 360 library more times that I have with any other video game console. I hope that in the future this trophy system will be included in all PS3 games, because I think they're a really cool feature with the 360.

You've got to start somewhere and it's better to start now to get the ball rolling. It would've been nice to have more titles, but whatever, 'm just glad to have them be around now and see the support grow until every PS3 game coming out has trophies.

Plenty of people have and are still playing SSHD (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141969&page=3), with quite a few picking it up now just for the trophies. I turn it on whenever I've got nothing to really play and want something to play for anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or so. There's no need to bash a great downloadable game.

The interesting effect will be if people flock to the upcoming games that have trophy support, like the way that 360 owners literally jumped from 360 game to game in its first year that was a bit light on games to play.

I wished they would add online multiplayer to SSHD. It'll be cool to play against other people and see how you fair instead of just looking at leaderboards.

Also, I wish Konami or Kojima would at least say something about trophy support for Metal Gear Solid 4.

If Microsoft was able to convince people to jump from game to game, even if the library, like all system launches, was filled with one or two good games and a lot of mediocre ones, then those people deserve the credit for giving the Xbox 360 such a high attach rate for games to console sales.

Anything that keeps a gamer coming back for more is a win-win situation, as long as it's not some super-expensive DLC. Too many games in my library go unplayed or unfinished, but I have to admit, I hang on to the Xbox 360 ones (and PS3 ones now) for the achievements and possible quality DLC. Anything that keeps me inspired to play again, or anything that can bring me back to playing with a fresh idea or set of levels, I'm all for!

I think if enough of us keep requesting individual game developers to release a patch for trophy support, it'll be more likely.

I'm gonna start e-mailing some requests, myself, and in each I'll explain why I don't think it's an unreasonable request (especially games also on 360). I encourage everyone else to do the same.

darn no DMC 4, eh I'll just have to get them for the 360. Of all the games I'll probably only play 3 that supports trophies - Resistance 2, Socom and possible SFIV. The lineup is a little weak, but it's new so I guess we'll have to settle for what they give us.

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/07/17/rock-band-2-will-support-ps3-trophies/

Although Rock Band 2 is coming out on Xbox 360 before PS3, Harmonix isn't neglecting PS3 owners. They note that Microsoft "helped us out massively by coming in, helping us to complete features and have given us great marketing support." We wonder if "marketing support" means "money?" Regardless, it appears Sony didn't offer the same "support" as Microsoft.

There are still a number of features that Rock Band 2 will support on PS3 that wasn't found on the original Rock Band release. Dan Teasdale from Harmonix told Videogamer.com, "You're going to have voice chat, you're going to have complete integration with rockband.com, you're going to have trophies. We're going to make sure that PS3 gamers have just as great an experience."

Trophies possibly mandatory in 2009:

Trophies are rather new for the PS3 audience. In fact, only one game on the market right now supports them. But, will things change in the future? The answer looks to be "yes." First party titles are all required to have Trophy support, but in 2009, all Trophies may become "mandated." One major developer told Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/rumor-sony-mandating-some-unique-trophies-in-2009/) that Sony may require Trophies in all third party games

According to Managing Producer Kyle Shubel, Guerilla Games is determined to support all PlayStation 3 features including full Trophy Support, SIXAXIS motion control, DualShock 3 vibration, online community support and more.

"We are going through that checklist, but that one, we did do them all (PS3 features such as Trophies), and two, they don't feel bolted on," said Shubel. "We want them to feel right."

Shubel continued stating that Killzone 2 will be supported with Trophy support but that details would be held off until around the time of the public beta. He also confirmed that Killzone 2 will feature a plethora of online support outside of simple online gameplay.

I hate online achievements/trophies. I really think they're bothersome. As you've seen with Team Fortress 2 on PC, it just turns into a bunch of achievement getting games. It ruins the entire fun of the game, especially if they're really hard to get. I think that's partially why COD4's multiplayer is so fun. People are just there to play.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/07/21/bioshock-ps3-trophies-confirmed-detailed/

Recently, the BioShock (http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/enter.html) PS3 design team here at 2K Marin (http://www.2kmarin.com/) spent some time with the Trophy system for the PS3. The Trophies for the PS3 are ranked as if you, the game player, were an Olympian. It seemed only right that we organize our thoughts by this method.
Our first batch out of the Trophy-maker, were the Bronze Trophies.

Just like in the original BioShock, for the PS3 version our initial emphasis was on encouraging thoroughness and exploration of the BioShock universe. Each system in BioShock has a reward for the player that digs deep enough. Our hope is that players that may otherwise neglect a system will want to explore it just for the Trophy. Systems like Researching, Modifying Weapons, Hacking, and Crafting are all loaded with awards. A meticulous player will find themselves up to their armpits in prizes.

While every system has a tactical in-game advantage, we hope these Trophies will encourage players to try out every aspect of BioShock. Hacking, for example, is a system that some players may never focus on. However, for the player who gets out their wrench and starts tinkering, the tactical significance of having a turret and two security bots on your team is impressive. We hope that luring you in with the promise of glittering medals will make you consider revisiting such systems. We believe that once you get a nibble of the effectiveness of certain tactics, you’ll come back for a full meal.

Silver Trophies were next to be handed out.

For the true explorer, we present one of the more difficult Trophies to get in all of Rapture. The “Historian” Trophy is awarded for finding every single audio diary. This particular Trophy is Silver because we understand the rigor required for this endeavor. If you’re a true adventurer and seek to know the full story of the fall of Rapture, look under every desk and open every door. There are many to find.

As you may expect, several Trophies must remain secret. Giving this information away has the same effect as turning to the last page in a great book. We imagine you hate this as much as we do. The other silver Trophy must remain in our vault until you discover it for yourselves.

Next we turned to the Gold Trophies, the real beauties.

When considering how to use these Trophies to reward players, we chose to give a respectful nod to those few who desire a challenge. We believe that BioShock PS3 has a lot to offer in a single play through, but we wanted to emphasize and reward a player’s second or third descent into Rapture. This led us to create new Trophies that encourage more advanced tactics and enemies that provide a greater challenge.

As a result of this thinking the first Trophy bears the name, “Brass Balls”. If you desire to be among the few who have this prestigious award on their mantle, you must win BioShock on Hard difficulty with the Vita-Chambers turned off. A feat so daring that anyone even glimpsing this formidable Trophy in your glass case will be shaking with terror and respect.

There are still more Trophies yet to be unveiled which will push you further than this. Devilish trials which only the sturdiest among us will finish. Keep your ears peeled for further details.

We believe that you will find gathering all of these Trophies a grueling but satisfying trek. Should you manage to gather every single bronze, silver, and gold Trophy, the ultimate achievement is waiting: the coveted BioShock Platinum Trophy. Its glistening mass is reserved for those few who can stare down a Big Daddy without shivering.

Our hands are at the ready to give congratulatory pats on the back to anyone strong willed enough to claim these shiny keepsakes. Until then, expect more updates from the designers here at 2K Marin as BioShock for the PS3 surfaces.
Bioshock's trophies officially confirmed along with a look at their design of their trophy set-up, as well.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/07/23/pixeljunk-eden-trophies-galore/

Anyway, this all leads into trophies somehow. Ah yes, because our development cycle is so short, we find ourselves being able to implement all the latest OS-supported features before anyone else can. For PixelJunk Monsters (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/PixelJunk_Monsters) it was Dual-Shock 3 support, but this time there have been a couple of really cool new features and we have put both in. These are the Trophy support and the YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/) video upload support. Both of which are really cool.

Initially we implemented all our own trophy screens etc., but then Sony Computer Entertainment built it all into the OS, which really helped us out. The trophy comparing and your “gamer card” screen really up the ante for those hard core gamers out there. In fact, it might make some of the non-gamer types even turn hard-core as chasing trophies can be rather addicting.

PixelJunk Eden is a short-form PSN title so there are fewer trophies when compared to, say, a Blu-ray title (which can have the esteemed platinum trophy), but we still managed to pack in quite a few. To begin with, you can get a bronze trophy for opening every “seed” in a stage. This is quite a challenge on some of the stages as the gardens are large and expansive. Then there are trophies for a load of other things, such as destroying 500 of the “prowlers,” or collecting 15 “crystals” in one jump. My personal favorite is a trophy that you can only achieve in 3P mode, where you have to “volley” a player between you back and forth five times without him/her landing on a plant, a bit like tennis.

Dylan Cuthbert gave a little teaser on the PS Blog about PixelJunk Eden's trophies and said this about trophies for PixelJunk Monsters:

Oh, and we have been totally inundated with requests for trophies in PixelJunk Monsters (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/PixelJunk_Monsters) via some kind of patch. As this goes to press, I can say we are definitely looking into it - you just need to badger Deborah Mars (http://blog.us.playstation.com/author/dmars/) and her team in Santa Monica to get some dates set. If we release a patch, we will not only implement this but we will also implement XMB music and a couple of other things.

He mentions in the comments that they're looking for a way to implement trophies retroactively so that you don't need to earn them all over again.

In terms of retroactiveness, I hope since I only have 240 medal points, if I got to 300 points, and that, along with 100 and 200 points was a trophy trigger, I'd get those as well. I'd hate to delete my save file and start again.

Well I don't care if it's smartly done, like giving the extra's mentioned above for it but past that I have issues with it. Namely that a dev. can make a complete piece of shit for a game or a mediocre one(see Fusion Frenzy 2 supposedly) and sell it just for the trophies.

I'm having a problem with the trophies in SSHD - I looked for something similar but haven't found anyone with this problem.

Anyways, I got SSHD when 2.40 came out and managed to get 11 trophies. Then a couple of nights ago I downloaded the solo expansion with the idea of getting some more trophies.

No matter how many times I try the trophies don't register. I noticed it first with the 45 second one (as it's pretty easy to see when you should get it) and then with one or two of the others.

Yea, with this on sale this week I might be interested in picking it up if they are definitely doing trophies.

They are doing trophies for sure, but this is all they've said about exactly when the trophy patch is coming. Maybe sometime next month?

I'm having a problem with the trophies in SSHD - I looked for something similar but haven't found anyone with this problem.

Anyways, I got SSHD when 2.40 came out and managed to get 11 trophies. Then a couple of nights ago I downloaded the solo expansion with the idea of getting some more trophies.

No matter how many times I try the trophies don't register. I noticed it first with the 45 second one (as it's pretty easy to see when you should get it) and then with one or two of the others.

Anyone have any ideas?

You downloaded the multiplayer addon, right?

no, I got the solo expansion...Am I that stupid? Quite possibly. Is it only the multi-player pack that has trophies? I thought the solo added 3 or 4.

yeah, the solo pack adds a few. Are you picking Survival mode for the 45 second one? It's only for that mode that you get a trophy for not firing or using bombs for 45 seconds. Other than that, I have no idea what could be wrong.

Yeah that's it. I went for 45 seconds without using a weapon and then I did it without using bombs...guess it is just me who is screwed.

no weapons or bombs at all on the same run in survival mode. Right? Just fly around for the first 45 seconds, don't press any buttons.

I have no idea what's wrong.

The problem may be that you're picking up the time things. They add to the time counter for score but don't count towards the trophy if I remember correctly. So you may see a time of 50 seconds but actually only have survived 40.

Not sure if this has been posted:
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/894/894898p1.html
IGN: How many Trophies will be available to nab in Uncharted?

Arne Meyer: You'll be able to get up to 48 Trophies in Uncharted. There are 47 Trophies related to what you do in the game -- finding treasures, hand-to-hand or gun combat and the like -- and the last one is the Platinum Trophy for getting all the other Trophies.

IGN: What are some of the more notable or difficult Trophies that you've added?

Arne Meyer: Well, some of our more notable and tougher Trophies are hidden, so it wouldn't be any fun if we revealed those, right? That being said, I think the Trophies for getting 100 headshots or defeating 50 enemies in a row without dying can present a challenge to most players. Of course, there's also the Trophy for the Strange Relic, which some Naughty Dog fans might find familiar...

IGN: Is there a direct link to the treasures and unlockables that are already in the game with the new Trophies?

Arne Meyer: Yep. The Trophies are tied to the medal rewards which already exist in Uncharted. The requirement to get each Trophy is exactly the same as the one for the associated medal.

IGN: Will veterans be able to go in and nab all the Trophies in a single play-through?

Arne Meyer: No, that won't be possible. It is possible to get nearly all of the Trophies on a single playthrough, but I think you'd have to be very good and extremely thorough to do that. We'd like to believe that some of the more difficult Trophies are enough of a challenge that even the most skilled gamer will have to play through Uncharted a couple of times.

IGN: Will any of them be able to be awarded retroactively?

Arne Meyer: That would have been nice, but it wasn't something we would be able to do. We originally left our save games unlocked and portable so gamers could move them off the hard drive and their existing game elsewhere or show off some of the unlocked content at a friend's house. This type of portability would have allowed gamers to get Trophies unfairly and we couldn't let that happen. To receive Trophies in Uncharted you will have to start a brand new save game without any medals or rewards unlocked.

IGN: Will the update contain anything in addition to Trophies? We happen to be fans of the different rendering modes that you can unlock...

Arne Meyer: Aww, we like the rendering modes too. However, the patch only adds Trophy support to Uncharted. We didn't add anything new. Sorry!

I agree. But I still think games from now on should use the Capcom method where your Trophies are tied to Network Data ala DMC4. That way you can use other peoples' saves, but won't give you trophies. It gives you freedom to explore other modes you didn't want to try or couldn't get to.

Also, Update 1.01 for Soul Calibur IV locks the game's save system to your console (Might be PSN name, but it said console) so there is a possibility of a Trophy Update in the future.

As a PSN title we are only allowed a set amount of points and each trophy is worth X points (with gold being quite expensive) - so rather than use points on a gold, we decided to go for variety and give the player a load more trophies instead. (you still gain the same amount of "exp" if you get all the trophies as you would with the non-dlc-addon version of stardust HD)

Best Regards

It seems that the values figured out for the main game's allotment of trophies is 1 pts per Bronze, 2 pts per Silver, and 6 points per Gold, which ends up with 21 points for the main game and 12 points allowed for expansions.

My guess is 100 pts per level like most RPG standards with the cap rising each level.

FriskyTanuki

Looking at the people on my friends list, you should be able to reach level 2 at between 12 and 15 points, using the Bronze = 1 point, Silver = 2 points, and Gold = 6 points scale, as PastaBoi93 has 10 bronze and a silver and is just short of reaching level 2 while miyamotofreak has 9 bronze and 3 silver and is just above the level 2 mark.

As for when you reach level 3, I am just short of reaching level 3 with 17 bronze, 5 silver, and 2 gold, which would be 39 points, so I'm guessing 40 is the limit to reach level 3.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/08/04/more-bioshock-trophy-details/

A look at the unique trophies to the PS3 version of Bioshock:
Hello again readers. I am Tynan Wales (http://blog.us.playstation.com/author/twales/), a game designer here at 2K Marin (http://www.2kgames.com/) and I’m happy to bring you more tidbits from the BioShock (http://www.us.playstation.com/Media/Screenshot/17478/BioShock_Screenshots_4#SearchId=17478&Page=1&PageSize=15&Section=featuredmedia&ShowMedia=17478) vaults.

There have been many questions (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/07/21/bioshock-ps3-trophies-confirmed-detailed/) regarding the trophy system in BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3, and we are glowing from the attention. As some of the trophy criteria noted in our last post seemed familiar, some drew the conclusion that the PS3 wouldn’t have unique trophies. That is not the case.

As BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3 continues its ascent from the depths we have assembled new information regarding the trophies that will be available to players. Specifically, we have new intelligence on the trophies which are unique to BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3.

“A Man Chooses” is the first of these golden trophies and is reserved for those with the courage to complete Survivor difficulty. Its name is meant, in the words of Andrew Ryan, father of Rapture (http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/home.html), to remind you that a man chooses because in Survivor mode every choice could mean the difference between life and death.

The final trial for any committed BioShock player is “I Chose The Impossible”. This trophy is named appropriately as attaining it will make even the most self-assured gamesman into a shaking leaf. To make this your own, you must complete BioShock on Survivor difficulty with the Vita-Chambers turned off.

Each of these shining treasures can only be found on the PLAYSTATION 3. So tense up your trigger finger and polish your diving helmet, you will need them at the ready.

A billion points? Ridiculous...........
Not in one try, but cumulative.

Added Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars to the OP for upcoming games getting trophies and the dates for Warhawk and Pain's trophies.

Seems that Warhawk's platinum trophy only requires you to get all of the trophies attached to the main game, at least maybe if you don't have the boosters.

From the trophy list:
Note: You must start a new save without importing medals and rewards to be able to earn trophies.

This is ONLY IF you have a save file from pre-trophy Uncharted, correct?

You know, I get the feeling Sony wants Trophies to be harder to get than Achievements. SSHD has some pretty tough trophies, and PJE's trophy list is just bad (no indication whatsoever as to what you're doing) and Warhawk...man, no one's getting a Platinum in that thing. No one. Now Buzz doesn't look half bad, but I have no interest in Buzz, and Pain might be tough as well. But so far, getting trophies is hard.

Does the 100,000 pollen trophy take awhile to activate? because I did this in the first garden (103,000) and it never registered.

Points or pollen? There's a difference.

Has anyone had any problems with the Uncharted trophies? I should have unlocked 13 but only got 4.

Twice recently I stopped receiving trophies while playing Uncharted. I would unlock the medal in game but not the trophy on the PSN.

The 1st time I missed one, I couldn't get anymore until I loaded an older save file and re-tried them. I think I unlocked 3 that didn't register that time. I saved and left game, synchronized info, restarted everything etc and still never got them until I replayed them

Happened again last time I played after having worked fine for awhile, haven't remedied yet. I noticed the second time I was having connection issues before hand, so maybe there are communication issues with the network and trophies. (and disconnections)

(and its a new save file)

For those that like unique trophy pics, Warhawk should have you covered from the latest post on the PS Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/08/11/warhawk-v15-update-%e2%80%9cfree-never-gets-old%e2%80%9d/):

Edit: Also, since I don't see anyone that mentioned this, but Capcom pretty much confirmed (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/08/08/bionic-commando-rearmed-behind-the-scenes-3/)a trophy patch for Bionic Commando Rearmed last week, as they're trying to get it to be retroactive (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/08/08/bionic-commando-rearmed-behind-the-scenes-3/comment-page-1/#comment-97402)with the medal system that's already in place.

That Force Unleashed video in the OP just made me mad. He gave no explanation as to why the PS3 would not be getting trophy support. Sony should just make it a requirement to have trophies like Microsoft has achievement points. Is that really so difficult?

I can understand how games now won't have trophies just yet because the game may have been too far in to development to add support. But games coming out around January really have no excuse.

I take it as basically a sign saying that once the game is done, the developer doesn't have any plans to support it. Lucas Arts is already in a bind it seems, think they have been letting people go. So I'm sure once they get the core game done, they'll want everyone to focus else where. Lets hope there are no major bugs to worry about because I doubt a patch would come soon at all.

The Wowhawk ones look nice.
pic > number

Considering the positive response of trophies in general from fans, I don't see how a dev can just say 'no' when it comes to including them with a game that's still months away.

Sony does plan on making this mandatory, but probably at the end of the year.

You sure? Sony hasn't really impressed me administratively with their choices regarding software support/hardware. I'm just hoping that this doesn't become a half assed feature.
