This isn't really a gaming deal. It's more for those who picked up the $20 Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive. It's $24.99 at Future Shop now. Sold out online, but all my local stores show stock. It's $89.99 at Best Buy if you want to price match for another $6.50 off, which is another 25% of the sale price!

Edit: As of now, all HD-DVDs are 50% off including Planet Earth which is now $12.50!

Awesome series, I have it on BR. The HD quality is truly amazing. Just wondering, does anyone know if the narrator is Brit or American (Sigourney Weaver apparently). The Brit version is said to be better, which is what the BR version has.

Wanted to add since this is a HD-DVD thread:

Giant Tiger's flyer lists HD-DVDs (combo format) at $6.88, titles vary by store. Probably great if you can find a GT in your area.

Damn. If I was able to get that HDDVD drive from Walmart a few months back I would be totally excited right now! I have Planet Earth anyways... but to have it on HDDVD would be pretty badass. Anyone with an HDDVD player should definitely pick this up.

If you still REALLY want one, Futureshop has them for $50. I missed out on the $20 Walmart/$20 FS Web sales, so I actually ended up just buying one for $50 (from Superstore in Sherwood Park actually). Combine that with this and you still pay less than the Bluray version. Plus you get the novelty of owning a dead format player, that is just as good in HD, for a fraction of the cost! :bouncy:

Don't forget you get a remote and King Kong on HDDVD, which is still a good deal IMO. Not as blazing hot as $20 but something I'm glad to have purchased, especially with this on sale now. :D

I picked mine up from FS Northeast Edmonton, tagged $24.99. They had about 8 left in the HDDVD section when I bought mine around 7:00 PM.

My Internet is live once again!
Very happy, its been down for about a week now.
Great to see Futureshop actually lowering the HDDVD boxset prices. I bought this+Sunrise Earth for $50 or something like that at the discovery store.

I think it means that one side is HD-DVD, the other is regular DVD. Great for people that didn't want to commit to the newer format until the dust settled. It settled, but not in HD-DVD's favour, LOL.

The only example of one of these movies I remeber is The Fast and The Furious 3 movie with rice burners, whatever it was called...

I think there are plenty of these to go around, but just in case someone in Edmonton needs one and couldn't find one, I bought one for my bro who already had it (?!) so I'll be returning it today to the Downtown location.

I've got it on blu-ray. Fantastic stuff.

Okay, you've convinced me it's worth buying...plus it's Educational for the kids :P
I picked it up today at the Future Shop in Kanata they had 6+ copies in the HD-DVD bargain bin near the cashes. The cashier was raving about it and was shocked it was so cheap.

Hmm... if it was less than $50 I'd totally pick it up... but just like you said, it's a dead format... so $50 is a bit much, especially since I already have the universal 360 remote... and I'd probably never watch King Kong again. I know $50 isn't much... I just wish I could find it somewhere for $20 again! I bet Planet Earth would look absolutely insane in HD! :bomb:

Block Buster Video has the HD-DVD player for $20 also. Call around to a few shops to se if anyone has any left. I just watched the first have of one of the disk the animals look amazing, my sons are loving it too. Were planing a trip to the Toronto Zoo this summer this is a perfect introduction to what these animals are.

Yay I have been looking for a good deal on this. Everywhere I go HD-DVD is gone. My Dad bought a 2nd HD-DVD/BluRay player for cheap at FutureShop a couple months ago since I am alwas hogging the PS3.

Sorry to bump an old (non-gaming) topic but has anyone had trouble with this set when playing on the 360 HDDVD drive?

I just popped in disc 2, and it can't be read. I tried disc 3 and it worked fine, then disc 4 and it cannot be read either. So 1 and 3 are fine, 2 and 4 seem to be busted.

There's some scratches on disc 2 which may explain it (don't ask me how they got there...I'd just popped it out for the first time), but there aren't any scratches on disc 4 and it has the same problem.

Any ideas?

I am connected to Live so it would tell me about an update if there was one, right? I think I installed one the very first time I played disc 1.

I had a prob with min Disc 4 was welded to the plastic case and was scratched up when i lifted it up. Didn't work in the HD-DVD drive on my 360. However I ran it through one of those circular disc-cleaning things and it played fine.

That's not fair at all :(. This is just because I was never able to get my hands on the player itself...

(BTW, it doesn't really matter... I have it on DVD)

The BBC one has British Guy the Discovery Channel one has Sigourney Weaver. Both are available on Blu-Ray & HD-DVD.

BBC is better, it's couple of mins longer on each episode than the Discovery one and better picture according to reviews.

Checked the local Blockbuster, HD-DVD drives are indeed 20 bucks but weren't labelled. Drive is still 49.99 at Futureshop though.

Humm... I called blockbusters in my area, and none are selling HD-DVD drive...

So...

Could someone buy one for me? I'd pay shipping, as it would still be cheaper than buying it at Futureshop...

Thanks!

The Kanata Walmart had a decent selection last night I picked up National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (I'm sick of watching CBC's edited version every year) and TMNT for the kids.
