last month we went back to basic cable with DVR to try to save some cash. Basic Cable here with a DVD runs around 70 bucks per month. Well starting last week i started calling up to see if they had any deals runing.. July 1- 7 (calling every day) i was told they had no deals running . July 8 i called and the worker said that it seems i called in everyday and that i was bugging the workers so they would offer me this deal
Full basic Cable + full digital cable + DVR system + HBO for 12 months for 49.99
so we went from Basic + DVR for 70 a month to all of that and saved 20 bucks
so if you want a cheaper rate just keep calling till someone gives in L: )

Comcast is a bunch of bungling jerks that know you have no other options in most areas.

Yes for some reason cable companies are the only companies that get to have a legal monopoly.
I like the fact that my grandma canceled her internet 5 years ago, it still works, but not all the time. It's kind of like dial up. :)

Best bet is to call and threaten to ditch them for satellite over price. I've always gotten good deals that way over the 6 years I've had comcast.

I remember when comcast offered me a really crappy deal and when I said no they sent a guy to my apartment anyway to try to hook it up.
I really really hate comcast.

I did that and they gave me the 8mb broadband for $15 a month for a year.
Once or twice a year I go to battle with Time Warner (used to be Adelphia) for various reasons. The apartment I live in only lets Time Warner cable operate here and it drives me up the wall.
I initially got a cable/internet/movie channel package for ~$70/month when I moved in then they upped it after three (I'm sure it was just a promotion rate, but it was never specified since we have a contact for people in our building). Anyway it went up about $50 a month after and I cancelled all the movie channels to get it lower.
Last year when baseball season kicked off I decided that I wanted all the extras again to watch the games on channel 176 (basic gets us channel 2-99 basically). After I turned the service on, channel 176 never unlocked and after numerous calls to ask for just a channel to watch the Indians on NO ONE could help me. (Worst part is 45 minute waits just to get to an inept rep).
Fortunately there is an office about a half mile from my house so I ordered my own cable modem and took all of their equipment up there and requested basic cable, low-speed cable internet, ect... Saved a ton of money that way (although still not cheap).
I just found out through my mom that they offer yet another lower tier of internet for $14.99 a month and went up there yesterday to get my bill lowered to $55 for basic cable (2-99, plus some QAM HD channels that aren't locked) and internet. I bought my cable modem for $36 and it paid itself off in a year without giving a penny to the cable company and it is still working fine. I absolutely hate Time Warner and if I didn't have such a cable dependent girlfriend I'd turn the TV service off and just have internet. I've heard that TV still comes through the line when you do that, but I'm not quite to the point of stealing it yet.

i think they learned that most people try this and change their ways... I did this a few times this year for my internet and was told
Nice having you as a customer and hopefully one day you will come back.... CLICK LOL
i only pay 24.99 for low speed cable hook up and that is good enough (sometimes you can get the higher speed for 19.99 for so many months, but with my old 6 year pc you really cant tell the differecnce in speed

Cable prices are horrible the actual rates are set so high that what you pay is almost entirely based on whatever random deal you happen to find. I just got offered $70 for cable, internet and telephone when last month they quoted me $100 for the same damn thing and both of those are "promo" prices so in a year I'd have to watch out for a doubling in service cost.

I agree with the OP. I live in Chicago, and we've been paying about $250 a month for phone/net/cable + a few premium channels.
My pops (a true old-school CAG) called Comcast and complained, threatened, etc...for about 30 mins, and eventually the lady gave us a $160 a year package that somehow miraculously includes everything we had before.
Either Comcast does this on occasion when pressured...or this girl fucked up REAL BAD.

I called up Comcast and threatened to cancel my service and ended up with $20 a month taken off my bill and 100 additional digital channels. It's only for 6 months, but after that six months I'll just call them up again. It's a relatively easy way to save some serious money.
Also: I hate Comcast.

Thought of this thread as our 79.99 deal for all the basic, digital and HD channels, plus HBO and internet just ended. My roommate called Comcast and we now have the same deal plus they threw in Starz for another year.
So they're still doing it. If you get a no just call again and see if a different representative will give you a deal.

I'm moving soon, and just turned off my cable. Hopefully, when I move I'll be able to talk them into a lower price by telling them that I'm trying to decide between them and satellite. We'll see.
