My roommate broke my laptop a few months ago, I'm pretty sure the problem is the port for the power cable is disconnected from the motherboard. Like, if you plugged in your power cable and pulled up or down on the cable, you could break where it connects inside.

I haven't taken it apart but I assume it's connected to the motherboard.

It has a 1.8 GHz Pentium M, 1gb RAM, 80gb HD. It's about 4lb and 12". Averatec. Is it worth fixing? If so, should I buy a new mobo and do it myself, or pay a repair service to do it? I'm quite confident in my desktop skillz but never messed with a laptop before (other than RAM & hard drive upgrades).

Hate to bump my own thread -- but, anyone? I don't wanna just let it sit & depreciate. If not worth fixing, I wanna eBay it ASAP.

Do you know how to solder? If so, you should be good here. I recently had this EXACT problem on my gf's Dell. I took it apart and sure enough the power connector had separated from the motherboard.

When taking the laptop apart, you may want to keep all the screws in a baggie or bin of some sort, and perhaps label them. There will be many different sizes.

Ya be sure to label everything.
If you have to buy a new mobo its not going to be worth it, but if its just seperated like the above guy said you can just solder it back into place.

I've never soldered anything before but it doesn't seem too hard, I could probably figure it out. I know how to weld. :)

I'll give it a shot after my midterms. Thanks.
