So we’ve just been talking with a Sony Playstation rep regarding the upcoming Playstation E3 conference which is being held later on today.

According to the rep, Sony have some interesting things to unveil at the show. The first thing which caught our attention was 4 new PS3 exclusive games which are to be released later on in the year and early 2009. These 4 new games will be shown as well as the following games which have been officially confirmed by Sony:

Killzone 2 (PS3)
LittleBigPlanet (PS3)
MotorStorm Pacific Rift (PS3)
PixelJunk Eden (PS3)
Resistance 2 (PS3)
SIREN: Blood Curse Episode #1 (PSN)
SOCOM: Confrontation (PS3)
Buzz! Master Quiz
Buzz! Quiz TV

We’re guessing that one of the 4 games to be announced by Sony later on today will be God of War 3. For the others, we’re unsure.

The Sony rep said that Home has a few more features/additions and these will also be demonstrated. What these features are exactly, we don’t know.

A new Playstation controller is also supposed to be in the making. Apparently it has a much longer battery life (not that the current controllers don’t have a long battery life!), will be lighter than the current DualShock3, and of course will include rumble. A wireless headset is also said to be included in future PS3 packages and we’re told that we could be seeing a new PS3 bundle in time for Christmas. With Resistance 2 being released in November, there’s a very good chance that Resistance 2 could be part of the new PS3 bundle.

A new PS3 firmware is supposed to be demonstrated, displaying “In game chat”. A few more “surprises” will be detailed later today, we’re not told what, so we’ll just have to sit back and wait.

As this is not officially confirmed by Sony, we’re currently calling all this a rumour for now - we’ll see it all happen later on today.

I'm hoping Sony puts on a good show. I'd love to see God of War 3, something new from Sucker Punch (a new Sly Cooper) and some brand spanking new IPs.

Microsoft showed some sweet games but nothing all that new.

Sony did good, and I'd say that their show wasn't as exciting as MS' show (due to their big Surprise) but seemed to me Sony had more content. and hell the video services goes live tonight.... (proabably tomorrow if he was talking in PDT time)

MAG has potential and while it was cool to see anything on God of War 3, it's just a total cocktease that showed absolutely nothing. And while it was cool to see Little Big Planet again, this is the third E3 we've seen it at isn't it? I was really hoping for some "oh shit" moments with some brand new amazing looking games, but honestly nobody really had that this year which is disappointing.

Right now, I'd rank the conferences Microsoft > Sony >>>>>> Nintendo. Microsoft really didn't have anything new, but exclusive DLC for Fallout 3 and at least 2 pretty big exclusives I want this fall, plus the GTA4 DLC still put it ahead of the other two in my book. Plus, that FFXIII announcement was the closest thing to an "oh shit" moment thus far.

Think of it this way:

The current 80GB system goes bye-bye.

The current 40GB system stays the same price, gets a larger HDD.

This includes all the other hardware staying constant (the $400 80GB PS3 will not play any PS2 games, will feature two USB ports instead of 4, etc.).

I got the feeling they didn't originally plan to talk about God of War III at all until yesterday's bombshell. It was just kind of near the middle-end of the show and the intro was basically - "here's a trailer" - and there's no way that's coming out any time soon with only 10 seconds of CG shown. I enjoyed microsoft, and sony. I didn't enjoy nintendo at all... That was the worst conference I have ever seen. Microsoft's was better because they showed gameplay. I could care less about final fantasy. I'm more interested in gears of war 2, and god of war 3. :D

I think the biggest news is Sony keeping pace with Microsoft with price movement - $399 80gb PS3 w/bluray but no BC versus $349 60gb Xbox360. I wonder why Sony wouldn't also throw-in a pack-in game just to be on the safe side, maybe that Ratchet & Clank expansion.

The 360 + Live cost the same as the upgraded PS3 so I think they are even on prices. I could see them packing in a PSN card too which would be nice.

Though Sony began really slow and boring (I went to go get lunch in the middle of it) they did show some nice stuff at the end. I wasn't very impressed with M$ but I did like some of the more casual stuff with the online game shows. As far as games go, I was more interested in what Sony had to off for the PS3.

I believe this. A lot of my friends who own 360s don't even have any legit software on it. Plus not needing a modchip made the 360 almost as easy to pirate as the Dreamcast.

Gameplay is a big difference. Remember the Killzone Trailer......man how excited everyone got (including me) and where is it? I am wary of anyone that shows trailer only spots as it likely means the game has a loooong way to go yet.

I'm not saying that they are a sure thing to stay exclusive, but you could theoretically make that argument about any and every game. Honestly, the fact that the 360 is even getting 3 of the 4 first is big news. Hell, it'd be big news just that the 360 got them period a couple years ago.

Well that is Killzone 2 footage almost 3 full years (or is it just 2?) since the all-CG Killzone 2 trailer so while Killzone 2 seems to look pretty good, it was still a big time gap between the CG trailer and the final product. Same with FFXIII it seems. They've basically shown the same footage for the last 3 years, 95% of which is all CG even now and the game still doesn't even have a launch window. That said, we'll probably be enjoying God of War 3 Fall/Winter 2009.
