Frantic and fun, Fat Princess pits two hordes of players against each other in comic medieval battle royale. Your goal is to rescue your beloved princess from the enemy dungeon. There’s a catch though: your adversary has been stuffing her with food to fatten her up and it’s going to take most of your army working together to carry her back across the battlefield.

You can switch between five different character classes literally at the drop of a hat: the fearless Warrior, the steadfast Archer, the mystical Mage, the tireless Worker, and the deadly Priest. In order to triumph, players must combine their skills and work together. The name of the game is cooperation, whether it’s helping another player drag a log back to your castle, manning a battering ram to smash through the enemy’s front gate, or building a human pyramid to scramble over the walls.

Key Features

* Casual Single & Multiplayer Online/Offline Action – Cooperate with your team of medieval soldiers (up to 16 players on each side) to overthrow the opponent’s army, plunder their castle and save the princess
* 5 Character Classes – Change your avatar's character anytime by swapping hats: Worker, Warrior, Archer, Mage and Priest
* 10 Unique Maps – There will be 10 maps total, shared across single & multiplayer modes
* Experience intense frantic gameplay across diverse, charming and challenging environments
* Resources & Upgrades – Work together to collect resources to upgrade your primitive weapons and basic castle defenses into superior armaments and impenetrable fortifications
* Unique Game Modes – Select from several various game types: Rescue the Princess, Thwart the Invasion, and Medieval Games
* 32-player Online Skirmish – Jump in and join as many as 32 players online to wreak havoc on the battlefield and carry your stout princess back home during the conflict

At first I didn't understand what this game was, but after hearing 32 player online and seeing what it is, I actually have some interests in it now. This may be fun game for CAG nights. :D

This was shown at E3 as one of the PSN games.

I like the game's premise. The princess has been kidnapped and stuffed full of candy so now she is fat so you'll need all the help you can get to carry her back.

This game looks awesome. If we can get enough people on CAG to play, I'm sure matches and voice chat will be downright hilarious.

Here's IGN's hands-on (Greg Miller's Game of E3 atm):

On 1upyours they talked about people using a canon to shoot someone on top of the enemy castle. Also the ability to build new types of defenses, starting with a door, but presumably more later. Sounds like it will actually have sufficiently complex gameplay to keep it interesting. And if people were playing it the game may actually come out soon

The Mana Knight
07-16-2008, 01:14 PM
I think Sony had some stats to back that up.I posted it within a PS Store thread once. Sony analyzed it, and so did others:
http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/04/14/study-publishers-shouldnt-release-demos-just-trailers/

Super Stardust HD use to have no demo and did pretty well. A game like Blast Factor which had a demo (and others), didn't do so well.

It seems surprising, but true. I'm not trying to support this idea, just what I've seen.

That's how she gets fat, she starts thin but you can find food and make her eat it to get her fat. And if she's fat it takes more people on the other team to carry her out the door.

That's just hilarious.

Not to mention a cool game dynamic. I see they thought out the gameplay a lot too. You have classes you can change between for instant teamwork, but there's still a lot of details and side objectives.

Do you send some people out to grab food and feed to the princess, this way making her too heavy to carry alone, or do you focus everyone on combat, and risk the princess getting skinny enough for 1-2 sneaky players to carry her away?

This one should be more successful than Calling All Cars because it allows more players and has that teamwork aspect.

Anyone know who developed this yet? Looks like it was from the same studio.

Wow, the more I hear/read the more depth there seems to be in this thing, a tech tree...

That seems to imply it's playable on the floor too, only one level but completely functional which means a full game won't be that far off (please)... With all the internet hype for this I wouldn't be surprised if Sony finds a few extra hands to lend them to finish it sooner if needed too.

You were pleased? Well I guess its not that surprising considering its you, but if their best showings were 10-15 dollar PSN games, that is a problem. PSP stuff who cares, many USA people pirate games. I just think they were certainly lacking in their press conference. If your best stuff is 10 dollar short mini-games, its not good.

This entire post is based on your own personal preferences. You donot care about PSP. So it is a waste? You do not care about PSN games so it is a waste.

Well I do so it worked for me.

Added that Sony has more shows this year. Why group everything together so nothing stands out.

Really, the game's only real misstep appears to be the questionable decision to forgo voice chat in favor of a menu of selectable text messages.

I am continually amazed at the perception that this is a good idea. At least they seem willing to change their minds.

I wouldn't mind a combination of the two, half of the games I play you can't understand what people say when they talk, so for strategy type messages being able to quickly select something to send to your team from a limited list would be useful.

An update:

http://kotaku.com/5108099/fat-princess-takes-the-cake-voice-chat-coming
Among the other PSN titles I got to check out this week was Fat Princess. Games such as this should be covered with disclaimers saying: “Warning! This Game Will Make You Grin Like An Idiot.”

Fat Princess is a medieval-themed co-op game that pits two teams together in an all out war to rescue each others princess from the opposing side's castle. Interestingly enough, however, is that you can feed cake to your prisoner, causing the other team trouble and grief due to her increased weight. Does the 16 vs 16 player mutliplayer work? Or will it be chaotic as ever?
What you’ll notice first is the great visual style this game has. The half-cell shaded, half-drawn look really pops on the screen. But don’t go thinking this is for your kids, as the game is filled with all sorts of violence and blood. And I mean a lot of blood. Combine that with cute “Hiya” sounds the characters make when they attack adds up to a very charming little game.

The co-op is the big feature of Fat Princess. Rather than picking your character class before you spawn, you are given the option of choosing your class whenever and however many times you want simply by picking up one of the five available hats deployed inside your castle. Warrior, Wizard, Archer, Priest, and Worker. Out of those, I thought the Warrior was the most useful (and most fun). The Worker goes and gathers resources to upgrade character classes and defenses, but it's a lonely job.

This game requires a ton a strategy if you wish to succeed. Trying to organize 12 (possibly) random players into working together could be tricky. Previously, there was no voice chat support for Fat Princess, only commands to shout, but that has since changed after getting this response from Sony today.

"Yes, voice chat support is planned for Fat Princess."

So there you go.
The demo I played around with was still early. Hopefully the large amounts of screen-tearing I was seeing is fixed in the final game. Overall, Fat Princess coming along quite nicely. Priced accordingly, I think this could be a nice, cute alternative for Team Fortress 2 fans. With its customizable characters, extra game modes, and surprisingly deep strategy-driven gameplay, this could be a sleeper hit in 2009.
I'm definitely excited. :D
