View Full Version : Is this a good Digital Camera?

I've been looking for a digital camera for awhile now, and to be honest I don't know what I'm looking for. I mean, I've asked people at stores, but it seems more like they just want to make that sale. I'm not looking for something "over the top" or anything, I just want a decent camera and a great price.

So I was thinking of this one, as I've heard Cybershots are great

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Cybershot-DSCS730-Digital-Optical/dp/B0011E35WO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1216191841&sr=1-1

I was thinking of going with that and the memory card "bundle" that amazon suggests. However getting a 4gb card instead of the two for 4 bucks more. Also, I have Amazon Prime, so the shipping is free 2 day, plus no taxes.

*If this is the wrong forum for something like this I apologize, wasn't sure where it put it*

I've personally found the Canon PowerShot line to be a little better than the Sony stuff.

So would something like this be better in your opinion? even though I think the thing is ugly looking

He probably means the Canon SD series which are awesome cameras in my opinion as well. They are very compact, sleek, and take great quality pictures. The SD1000 is probably in your range.

To give you an idea of just how small it is (black model shown, I prefer silver):

I spoke with my parents and both my mom and sister have that model and love it. Unfortunitly it's OOS on Amazon, but I noticed they have a "newer" model of that camera

I think I might go with that one.

Has anyone had an experience with the replacement plans Amazon is offering with the camera at the bottom of the page?

Also can someone explain to me the difference in the memory cards that they're offering. Are Sandisk's the best ones?

If you're really interested in an SD1000, you might check a nearby Toys R Us to see if they have one in stock by chance. They clearanced that model there a couple of months back. I think I picked mine up for around $120 including tax after some sort of coupon or additional clearance discount. Odds aren't great that they would still have it in, but people don't typically shop TRU for electronics, and those items are always kept in a glass case in the R Zone. That area isn't always well organized, so there's always a chance.

Barring that, you could try Radio Shack for $139:

Just check online to see if a local store has it in stock.

Just in case you were wondering, my wife has been very happy with this camera. A big step up from the Nikon Coolpix L4 that she was using before.

It's funny you mentioned Radio Shack, I just had check that not that long ago, unfortunitly they didn't have it in stock here

Edit: Just went and checked my local Meijer, they only had a display model, it would have been 96 bucks too with the sale their having :(

I know this is significantly more then 96 bucks,

but I was able to find the Canon Powershot SD1000 plus a 2gb memory card, with 2 year warranty for 210 after tax. Is this is a good price for the combo?
