yea but i was referring to the 50/20 ratio ,I Host 1 FTP server on a comcast cable line that needs to be faster, and the house internet if for everything else DSL Verizon Business. Be nice to pay the 150 for the 50/20 ratio and only worry about 1 line and one bill and fast speed.

That's about 6 Megabits/s. That's what I have with comcast for $33/mo. That roughly turns out to 700-780kb/s of max download speed. Maybe it'll be worth it if you don't have a bandwidth cap.

So, I am currently XBox360less and I saw online that Microsoft is offering a 20gb hard drive for $20 for people who qualify (Arcade and maybe core console owners). Does anyone know what exactly qualifies for this? Does it depend on when you purchased the XBox or not? If it doesn't, then I would much rather buy an Arcade console and get the hard drive for $20 as opposed to buying a 60gb XBox for $300. If anyone knows anything about this, please do tell.

I honestly think the current dashboard is fine the way it is but I definitely like the new features being offered with NXE. I don't really use my 360 for anything other than checking my friends list or scrolling down to my current game and clicking on it.

The Netflix stuff and the game installing features are what I really wanted to get in the preview for. Oh well, I'll just try PlayOn and see how that works.

Edit2: I definitely like the avatars, a step up from Miis. Theres a good amount of options for hair, eyes, etc however it is limited but on the other hand you get options with clothes and what not which is really cool. I can see these avatars being a HUGE hit with the community. You can take a picture of your avatar with a camera like function and it'll show up as your gamercard if you choose it to. I updated my gamerpic but it has not shown up on xbox.com yet, I'm not sure if they're withholding it or it's lagging behind.

Edit3: The menus are slick and fast no lag. The mini blades dash when you press the guide button takes about 2 seconds to fully load up but it works smoothly and seems a hell of a lot better than what we had before. First bug though, 1680x1050 as does 1440x900 have black bars on the top and bottom of the screen and the mini guide looks a little blurry compared to everything else all the time.

Netflix works; Netflix runs like a App for the dashboard sorta. The quality was kinda bad but that is most likely because of my shitty internet and it rated my internet at the lowest. Even still I am happy that it works well enough and should be good when they get the party viewing things going.

The boot up time is slightly faster but not a huge decrease or anything.

Do menus take forever to load like they do now? Surfing through the Marketplace and through my library takes a good 30-40 seconds to populate a page. I've learned to hate that stupid scrolling circle.

There's a feature now to disable auto booting a game when you insert the dvd. So now you can change game discs casually without actually starting up that game.

There is no review feature for XBLA games yet but I could see them implementing it. Theres several panes that can be scrolled through horizontally containing various information relevant to the game whether it be downloads or descriptions or achievements and so on. They could easily integrate a pane in the future for reviews.

The marketplace is MUCH faster now. Everything populates instantly and you can directly browse video or game marketplaces separately via the dashboard. You can also navigate via the alphabet if you are looking for something in specific.

Everything seems much more visually organized as you can scroll through everything by boxarts or avatars or what not. Scrolling through the friend list now(in the new dash not the guide) is done horizontally and you can see peoples avatars and their little mini "world" around them as well as a picture of the game they may be playing. There's a feature now to disable auto booting a game when you insert the dvd. So now you can change game discs casually without actually starting up that game.

It's funny because it defaulted me to something that's much closer to capris(granted "default" is really just a random starting point that you choose). Those that I have there are "cargo shorts" according to them, some of their other stock choices weren't that great pants/shorts wise.

They did have a dress up section where you can put a suit on your avatar and you can save "outfits" for your avatar. Something tells me that they want to emphasize role playing with these avatars.

From what I can tell, you have to use clothes items so if there's a clothes item that lets you use your gamerpic, I do not believe it exists yet. The clothes is somewhat limited as I suppose they want you to buy new clothes.
I apparently unlocked some jacket somehow when I started as it had a gold coin next to it and was called "pixelart" or something...

One interesting thing is that they don't limit you from cross dressing. You can also choose a feminine haircut and clothes. Beyond that there is some very fun things like facepaint, Kratos scar, and so on...

They wont get in trouble and neither will you the punishment is your gamercard can't access live till the 19th then.

Yeah I suspect too sadly that other people at MS have to clean up a mess that Major created. Sorry to say it major but it's true he told people they have a good chance which wasn't really the case and we all knew that but he completly passed by the fact that they wanted people outside the US. Don't have the update, but I think it's pretty safe to say the status quo will remain concerning things like Arcade Unplugged and the Compilation Disc.

And on a side note, even though I am not one to partake in complaining over trivial matters, I do agree that it was fairly stupid of the Major to say that there would be a good chance of getting in. I realize that this thread is but a small, small sampling of the people who signed up, but 95% of the responses have been in the negative.

I do not recommend installing on your main 360.
I just installed it on an extra 360 I have.
Update is 7MB and takes about 10 seconds.
After that your old Blades OS is gone forever.
You will not be able to connect to Xbox Live on that 360 till Nov 19.
Do not transfer the hard drive you installed it on to another 360.
Put the NXE folder on a flash drive and boot up the 360.
No avatars, no Xbox Live, no Arcade games, no Friends List.
This is just the NXE operating system only.
I have my Gamertag on a memory card with some recent game saves.
I've had no problems alternating between the two 360's with the
new offline NXE OS 360 and the old online Blades OS 360.
Major Nelson said whoever did this will not have Live or the full NXE features until Nov 19.
Your gamertag or console will not be banned, but your console ID is not recognized,
so you cannot login to Live till Nov 19.

I installed Gears of War 6.8GB and the Arcade Compilation disc 4.7GB,
it takes about 10 minutes of reading the disc.
The game loads faster and the 360 is whisper quite.
No DVD drive spinning a disc or the second fan churning away.
Under 'My Xbox', fanning through 91 games I have supposedly played 'blades'
is incredibly fast, no loading of achievements at all, totally instant.
Each game played blade shows the achievements earned badges, which look incredible.
We've always had them, but now they are much bigger and more prominent.
Under achievements, if a game has a '0' gamerscore, an option to "remove game history" is available.
Afterwards, fanning through 46 games I have actually played is even faster.
Crap, under notifications, still can't put notify 'achievements only',
instead of seeing all 100 Friends login and logout every 10 seconds.

Even though it was all quite anti-climatic,
I think it's growing on me a little bit.
I'm so glad I got this out of my system.
Now I can get back to gaming.

I'll be damned, it actually works. I tried it on my spare 360 just to check it out.

Just download the file, unRAR it, burn the unRARed folder (and file inside) to a CD, put it in your Xbox, turn it off and reboot. It'll then ask you to update.

So far it looks like everyone has said - no LIVE access, etc - but I'm installing Fable 2 right now. That's pretty much the #1 feature I want.

The dashboard is definitely faster, but the sounds kind of remind me of the PS2...

I have the smallest HD ( 20 gig?) and don't think most games would fit on the space I have left on it. However if I run into a particularly loud, grindy sounding game ( my 360 sometimes scratches discs) or one that has super long loading times, I will delete stuff and see if I can fit it in there.

Because you'll still need the game disc in the system to activate the game. Installing it won't eliminate the need for the disc, just cut down on load times, system noise, and reduce the strain on the hardware.

But I'm sure the hackers will have a work-around ready about a week later...

Definitely yes now that Fable 2 has officially murdered my less than 1 year old 360. That game made my system roar like a passenger jet taking off. All other games worked fine, though.

YES. It's the one feature I really am looking forward to. I've been through a few Xboxes due to DvD drive failures. I don't particularly care about the reduced noise or load times. Just the reduced wear and tear.

You hit it right on the button. Just ordered a 120gb to upgrade to from my 20gb because the reason the noise is cut down is that it is using the drive a whole lot less and cuts down on the strain and heating of the system. I got a RRROD and tryed to fix it myself but couldn't (big mistake) next one I will send in, but would rather not get to that point. The shorter load times don't seem that signifficant, but the fact of taking the strain off the system is what really makes me want to use it.

You pay for games, the NXE is free.

Now it would probably be illegal for people to sell the updates for profit.

1) Decreased load times. GameStop already ran some tests. The results were not stellar, but the reduction is some games is still noticeable.

2) Less stress on the disc drive. This is really good for older systems that have the less reliable drives.

3) Less noise coming from the system.

Saves on wear and tear, and it loads faster, and it's quieted. You only need the disc to start up to make sure you actually own the game. Otherwise, people would just rent games and copy them to their hard drive.

i don't know why so many people on other sites are making such a big deal about the leaked dashboard and bannings. Think of it like this, if you play world of warcraft, and you get a "patch" earlier than other people, you just wouldnt be able to play it until they officially update it, so you are pretty much locked out until then. they wouldn't ban you for getting a patch earlier, you aren't downloading a game illegaly early, you are just downloading a patch early which is the official patch they released, except you just got it earlier.

This is for those who want to buy a 120GB HDD for <$50 and use that versus $149 for the official 120GB HDD. Thread is still active and people aren't reporting any problems so if i can find the right HDD, i'm going to give this a shot.

I've actually read through much of that exact topic recently and I am waiting for the NXE to hit and see if anyone (namely my roommate) has any problems with using his hacked hard drive (aka see if he gets banned). If not, I will more than likely pick up a cheap 120gb hard drive.
