Good thought, but no. :) I already had the leaked beta, and I just tried a little while ago (maybe an hour ago). And I just got the e-mail now. I'll try again just to make sure, but if I don't update, assume we have to wait for tomorrow (which I'm about 99% sure of).

I guess we're in, tho, huh? Kinda fun, being in early.

It will be nice to be back on-line again, though! Whether tomorrow or the 19th. Although it looks like it will be tomorrow.)

I know its a bit trivial but I would like them to be able to let us hook up a external HD to the system. Not in a saving capacity but rather as a media capacity. I always get some lag when I use Media Center or TVersity and just being able to plug in one of my HDs would be pretty sweet as it would save me a headache.

They are having a preview of it for people who they selected at random who signed up through Microsoft Connect or apparently USA Today. They sent out emails in 3 waves if you were selected, then the update is automatically sent to your Xbox if you were selected.

Also to the person who asked about changing the floor color, I don't think you can.

Also, aside from the avatars, which I think are pointless (right now) I am really liking this. It's very fast when loading stuff from the marketplace unlike the slower than shit old marketplace (hopefully that won't change once it's officially released and 14 million people jam the servers) and it's very clean, easy to find downloads for the games you have, and overall a nice improvement over the old blades.

Update officially hits this coming Wednesday 11/19. There were signups to get into early 'previews' of NXE via MajorNelson/MS Connect and USATODAY just recently. If you didn't sign up for one of those and got accepted, you'll just wait till the 19th.

I would like to be able to access someone's avatar by choosing their name from the friend list on the guide, it seems like for now you have to go to the main dashboard and then to Friends and scroll to where that friend is at to see their avatar page.

Select it with A.

The Netflix feature is so nice. Entered my activation code and was watching Superbad within a minute after that. It would be nice if you could add movies to your instant queue via the 360, but just load a bunch of them up online and you should have plenty to pick from.

It depends on your connection speed, I have a slower speed (3.5MB), so it took me about 20 - 25 minutes to fully update.

i already did it but i forgot how i did it..i think you have to go to your game library or list of games played and then find one with 0 points then you press Y or X and you can delete it.

Does anyone know if this will be a problem to move to another console after 11/19? Like I posted earlier, I got my email last night but I am awaiting a coffin for my 360-- it works but the DVD drive is wonky... I'm just wondering if downloading this to play with until the coffin arrives and I ship my 360 off will cause issues when I get the replacement 360 back?

(Edit: just called the number in the invitation email and he said it would not cause any issues as long as I don't connect the HD to another Xbox before the update goes live on 11/19)

No code. Just turn on your xbox and it prompts you.

MS sends the update via your Console ID so it is automatic once your console ID is flagged for the update. No code required.

No, to remedy the problem you need to go into your Privacy Settings and set everything to Friend Only. Check and see if it's fixed after that and if it is, set your privacy settings back to whatever you had it at.

If it doesn't fix it that first time, set it back to Everybody instead of Friends Only and it should be fixed by then.

Strange, I updated quickly this morning. About 4 seconds for the initial update and about 3 minutes for the second part.

However, I got disconnected while making my avatar and I was almost finished but because I got disconnected I had to restart it! All day I have been getting random disconnects.

Slick. It is definitely faster than my laggy old dash. Then again, since I'm not connected to Live, I can't really compare those features.

How long did it take to install Gears2? Can you play while its installing?

I don't think whoever said 5 minutes is correct. When I installed Gears 2 (and have atleast 5 times already, since I have a 20GB, I can only have one game on at a time, and now I'm installing all games before I play them [ which means I have to install, delete, and then install again whenever I want to play a game ]), and each time, it was installing long enough for the "screen saver" to go into effect.

Which, for that to happen, I believe is about 15 minutes. Usually, they seem to finish about 1-2 minutes after that, making for a 15 - 17 minute install time.

I'm not sure, maybe it installs faster on bigger HDD's, but on my 20GB HDD, all big installs take about that much time.. it's all dependent on the size of the install though, of-course.

You also can't play any games while it is going, but you are able to access the guide, and send messages, and do pretty much anything else in the guide, but just not anything on the system itself until your install is complete.

Considering the amount of Gamer Pics I've had sneak onto my harddrive, several of them just from playing the demo of the game, I wouldn't be surprised if a Gears 2 theme snuck in.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all about the free stuff but I really wish they would announce in game when you get them. Would be nice to know they're there and would let me know if I can get others.

I'm going to answer my own question.

Hit the guide button, go left and click 'Achievements.' Any game that shows 0 gamerscore, including original Xbox games, will pop up an extra option to delete with 'X' at the bottom of the screen.

No. Apparantly if you just press play for a game thats on the hdd it will load from the hdd(with the disc thats currently in). I heard differently. Meaning you dont actualy have to go to the games library to load from the hdd

The primary reason games are installed to the HDD is to reduce wear and tear on the disc drive and prevent the console from overheating. Faster load times are an added bonus.

Yes, the disc is still needed to play. It does not behoove XBox 360 developers to give all of their software away for free.

The dashboard is available now to a handful of people who won entrance through a preview program. It is not a beta; the NXE being used by people now is the same NXE that will be available next week.

Also, less wear and tear on the disk. When you play off the HDD the game spins to make sure its the right game then the drive shuts down.

Hm, seems as though my connection has gotten shitty since installing the update.

Basically, it's like this:
Old Dashboard: No disconnects, perfect private chat, every onceinawhile voice lag in game lobbies, NAT Moderate

New Dashboard: Disconnected twice while playing L4D demo with a friend, voice chat is now ALL lag, wh-it-so-undi-ngl-ike-this-a-l-l-th-t-me, game chat still has lag, NAT Imnotsure.

Don't know if it's cause I'm using a Wireless Bridge (connect your ethernet cable to your PC, bridge the connections.) Though, I used this way with the old board, and it had what I described above. Wonder if it's just Live........

Download the free one called "Last Day", its NXE ready...looks bad ass...like when you look at your friends, there's a lot of Gears debris behind them like broken down buildings, helicopters...etc....cool stuff. The GS theme though is the best.

On the update...love it, very clean look, gamerpics actually are actually high quality. Only thing that sucks is that I can't get into XBOX Live with any game...as soon as the game boots up I get disconnected. They better be working on this right now...its bullshit!

It's not the new dashboard. It's affecting everyone as people are saying. I got disconnected 3 times, but right now has been stable. It's just everyone who is currently in the third wave that are downloading the NXE is definitely putting a strain on the system

That's a universal problem with everyone who has NXE. This will be fixed when all users have the NXE update, but until then you'll have to refrain from private chatting with non-NXE users. Of course in game chatting still works absolutely fine.

Lot of complaints in the newsgroup at connect.microsoft.com about it. I've been mingling through there and it's one of the more common complaints (Plus it's in the known issues section). Besides that I also see a lot of complaints about the party system not working for them, which has a work around to get it to work permanently.

I actually put on the leaked nxe, was pointless couldn't do anything, got the email yesterday from MS and got selected so messed around a bit with it, signed up for netflix, was streaming a documentary (which worked awesome) then all of a sudden shut off on me and wouldnt start back up, had my computer on, logged into netflix and everything.
