Well, I certainly like it. The Netflix streaming seems to work pretty well, better than it does with PlayOn. With PlayOn, I often have to let the movie sit for awhile, in order enough of it to buffer, so that I can watch it without any skipping. Also, when you fast forward, the buffering is quite quick the 360.

Where's the "personal settings" option where you can change your status to "Appear Offline" etc. It was right on the guide that popped up when you hit the xbox button before, but I can't find it now.

The best surprise has been the ability to use the right stick to scroll through descriptions of stuff in the marketplace, though they've removed some of the need for that now. I also really like that seeing how much space is left on the hard drive is much easier, as it's show on the last tab of the My Xbox section.

Yeah, it's kind of funny that they finally added that feature (manual scrolling through the description), and you don't need it nearly as badly as you did before.

Oh yeah, I love that to be honest. Sad to say it was one of the first things I went to try. Made my night heh.

I've answered that before, it should be anything that says Premium on the theme. For now, I've only seen 4 on the Marketplace. 3 GoW2 and 1 for Vigilante 8. All cost 250 except for V8 which was the same price as the normal theme.

Don't forget to see the themes that came with the new dashboard as well though.

Though they only show the GoW2 ones. I'm sure Vigilante 8 is one...since they have a normal and premium theme.

I noticed that New Arrival stuff in the marketplace is ordered by date added now instead of alphabetically, though it seems to be just gamerpics and themes that actually show the date they went up.

There seem to be a lot of community games available from the start. 26 is total.

Edit: It seems that the download queue's been increased, finally. At the moment, I have seven in there not including what was downloading.

Aye. I think I'll enjoy it quite a bit more when I have a full friends list full of avatars and voice chat is working well again.

Thanks. Tried the mini-blades and settings, where it was before and found nothing. Seems to be much, much quicker to show the themes than it took before.

Yeah I had just turned my box on last night and now update quickly put in Rockband and was prompted to update then it was taking over a minute to update as soon as It restarted before the NXE installation happend I know what it was haha

I'd say expect the worst. I don't see it bricking any consoles, but in the past XBL has been shitty right after console updates and multiplayer games really suffer. Last year Live wasn't the same for about a month after the update came out.

I was getting random disconnects the other night just from 10,000 people downloading NXE. Just wait until tomorrow when everyone gets it. They did do it a bit smarter this time releasing it to people little by little, but I don't see that helping that much. Hopefully I'm wrong.

The demos for community games kind of suck since it times out after a few minutes and requires a restart to keep playing. They don't show up for the quick launch part of the mini-blades, so it's a bit of a slow process.

I have to give a plug to Kerli. I was shocked to see she shows up under the "game with fame" category on the new NXE. She's from the same country as my wife. She did a small concert near my house last April and my wife met and talked to her afterwards, at length, in their native language (the look like they could be sisters). She's really down to earth and cool. I recommend people download her video and check her out. Really glad to see her career is taking off, she deserves it after working so hard to get over here. Her sound can be described as a goth bjork. It's really cool to see a record company dumping a lot of money on her and making cool videos etc.

The first thing that happens when you download the update is it jumps you straight into avatar creation. I do not know if this is required (as in if you can skip to dashboard), but it will not replace your gamerpic unless you specifically tell it to and even if you do somehow accidently, it can be changed back.

Your avatar will only show on xbox.com when someone is viewing your profile or when someone else with the NXE update scrolls over you in the dashboard friends list (different than the guide friendlist).

Yes, they are required. You'll play around with your avatard a bit, then by the end of the day, you'll be best buds. It happened to me.

Minutes...about 5 for a full game give or take a minute.

I think Microsoft is punishing everyone who doesn't have NXE right now, because when I'm anywhere (in a game or not), when I look at a Friend to see what they're playing it just says the game and "Online". No flavor text. Doesn't matter if it's Gears, Halo, or Banjo. It just says "Online".

Just logged on to my Netflix account and took a look at the Top 50 movies from last week and saw Caillou: Caillou's Winter Wonders (http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/Caillou_Caillou_s_Winter_Wonders/70108873?trkid=438218) on the list. One reason my wife agreed to getting an Xbox is so she can use the Netflix feature. Once she puts that on for my 2 year old daughter (which she will, my wife is savvy enough to know how) I'm never getting control of my Xbox again.

Edit - looks like they have a really good selection of Classic movies for streaming if you're into that sort of thing. Their Film Noir list isn't too hot but their classic comedies has some great ones. Plenty of Bogart and Monroe flicks too.

Wait, what? I've never needed to invite someone to my NXE party before inviting them into my game whether it be Gears 2 or Halo 3. HotShot hasn't reported any problems either about him sending me invites.

However I have noticed that occasionally messages don't show up nor am I able to send any and I need to relog onto Live. Although you won't notice it unless someone tells you via some other method that they sent you something. I don't this is NXE centric though as I believe I've gotten it a few times before as well.

Same here. I look forward to getting new things. Honestly, I'm kinda excited for more avatar stuff. I've really taken a liking to them. I even customize them a little (if possible), when I'm playing a new game. For example, when I got Mirror's Edge, I put gloves on my avatar, sorta like what Faith wears.

I just wanted to make a few comments about the new NXE,

#1. The Avatar (Mii's are fun) but they have left out 80% of the clothes and items I have already seen no doubt they will sell them later on.

#2. You can no longer see or access your FRiends List Unless you are LOgged onto XBOX LIVE. This is being all done on purpose to remove off line useabllity to force people to always be on XBOX LIVE. (unless I missed it)

#3. THE NXE is designed visually to look like CRap unless you are on XBOX LIVE and signed in. When your online it looks great, But the NXE looks far worse than the old Dashboard if your offline. This again is designed on purpose to make you be online always.

#4. If you have a 20GB HDD I mean 13GB HDD you can only install 1 360 Game to the Hard drive.

#5. I don't understand how Microsoft justifies selling so many Adds and ad space on our Menus system we pay a monthly fee for. Its like now there are full video ads for games and movies, which immediately start playing with video and sound and we don't even have to click on it, Its basically a commercial thats always there taking up bandwidth with out our consent and theres no way to diable it.

#6. overall there are more Ads now regeardless of what type they are ads
For starters, if you have a 20GB HDD (with 13GB usage), you can install about 12.5GB worth of games. That means 2 games that are 6.2GB, 3 games that are 4GB each, 4 games that are 3GB each, or any combination. You could upgrade to a larger HDD if you want to make use of the install FEATURE, or you can continue to use the game disc like many others. It's nice to have but not mandatory.

I agree that there are quite a few ads, especially considering we pay about $30 a year (this is 'Cheap Ass Gamer's for a reason)...but a lot of the 'ads' are informative, to me at least. My only major complaint is that i want 'My Xbox' to be the first thing i see, not Spotlight.

The selection of movies that one can stream from Netflix to the Xbox 360 just got a bit smaller, as a batch of content distributed by Columbia Pictures — owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment (dun dun dunnnnn!) — is now listed as "currently unavailable for playback on the Xbox." That affects some big releases from the studio, including titles like Superbad, The Karate Kid and The Lives of Others but also thankfully saves us from becoming incredibly depressed by watching Spider-Man 3 while drunk.

The titles will still be available for stream via PCs and other set top boxes — just not your Xbox 360.

According to a follow up on the story from MTV Multiplayer, "a few hundred titles are temporarily unavailable" for Microsoft's console, but Netflix spokesfolk say "we hope they’ll be licensed for Xbox 360 shortly." On the eve of the New Xbox Experience roll out, I'd be plenty pissed at the last minute change if it didn't likely save me from actually going through with a viewing of Ghost Rider.

Heck its 2008 the 360 is 3 years old barely, and theres serious talk about a new machine being worked on. 360 won't last 3 to 4 more years period.

Given a more long term global life span and all the PS3 can do besides games it will easily outsell the 360.

Even if it's just my connection being flaky, it's kind of lame.

The Windows comparison is completely faulty. Microsoft makes money and continues to grow its market share by having their operating system on Sony computers. Sony, in the current deal, would get squat for having their movies run on 360 consoles. Bad business.

Also, I'm tired of the "people don't buy game consoles to do such and such." It's 2008. Game consoles are more than just game consoles. So, yes, people are buying systems now to watch movies. If you honestly want to make the argument that no one is buying them to stream a particular company's movies, yeah, you're right. But that's a silly thing to bring into the argument. The point is, people were excited about this new feature, and they just lost like 15% of the movies they can watch with it.

As far as their relationship with Netflix goes, Netflix is not going to piss off a major player like Sony. That would only hurt them.
