Great flick. I am big mystery fan, particularly Agatha Christie, so it's fun to see the conventions and cliches of the genre taken to task, especially by such a talented cast.

I don't expect Sony's embargo to last legally. Netflix has to be furious right now, they were banking on hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of new customers from NXE. I have a really hard time believing that the legal contracts with the studios have exceptions saying studios can mandate their movies not be played on certain devices when they feel like it. The fact that it happened in the 11th hour tells me that there has been some very heated legal battles and Netflix pulled the plug "just in case" while they try to fight it.

Now that MS and Netflix are friends, I sense a stalemate/ultimatum given to Sony if they want Netflix on the PS3.

Oh and if you go to Netflix's device page, there are two blu-ray players that can stream netflix. Sony has all kinds of irons in this fire.

I seriously believe in the next 5 years or so MS will buy a major movie studio. Probably NBC/Universal, so they can play tit for tat, among other things.

I just turned mine on a few minutes ago and got the update notice as soon as I signed in. There was a quick update and then a reboot followed by a much longer update that is happening now (and competing for bandwidth with some other software I'm downloading for work - nothing quite like working and updating the Xbox at the same time - I feel super-productive tonight!).

And, wow, that was very fast actually - just watched the snazzy intro video... I'm off to see what the hell this is all about. I really haven't been paying attention to the hype. I know about game installs and the avatars and that's about it.

I hope there is a way to make My Xbox the default start, theres a little dot next to Spotlight that makes me thing we can change it.

I stayed up to get the update and stream Netflix movies through my 360 and none of the codes fucking work! I've entered over 30 and that is not an exaggeration. I'm done with it! This is the worst implementation ever! Way to fuck up Netflix. This is the only reason why I even kept my Netflix account and I can't even access it. And I better not have to enter a code every time I log in. If so then I'm done and will cancel my Netflix account. Seriously, so fucking stupid. I'm about to throw my controller through my TV.

The Gears 2 theme I have changes the buildings too. Ones a Raven and there's a Centaur and there's a Derrick and there's a Grindlift and there's some generic building. It's teh Last Day theme I'm pretty sure it's still free on marketplace.

Yeah, I already installed Civ Rev which I was about to play anyway. It is one of those games that starts and stops the drive all the time which is more annoying than just keeping it running (plus also probably hard on the system). Looking forward to playing that now! I'll do Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour for sure. I spent about 10 minutes cleaning demos and videos off the system (even though I have a 120GB) as I suspect I will install lots of games.

Yeah, it looks like the Xbox brought to you by Nintendo. I kind of like that as a poke in the eye for those who look down on the Wii ;).

Though, oddly enough, even though they are more realistic looking, I can't quite get my Avatar to look as much like me as my Mii. I think it has to do with the lack of feature placement adjustment (moving/resizing individual elemetns like eyes and mouth).

So far it is pretty neat, the NXE makes everything flow much better (in terms of layout). It seems to be more overwhelming in terms of navigation with all the different GUI, and options etc, but people will get use to it in time.

Thanks, I think it is pretty cool. The only thing with older themes are half the background is covered and most were not designed for that. I just decided to use the standard. Would be interesting to see new themes that really do the entire thing including the friends background. Especially if they are free to promote a movie and it has props from the movie back there.

Also it has connected with my media server without an update with TVeristy but there is a music update that its not letting me do. I really wanted to test the Netflix stuff. Along with the media, I wish it did have the new slide with it instead of the old menu of scrolling down. Hopefully it is something they can add down the road.

Bungie said (or someone important said) Halo 3 runs better without being on the hard drive. That's why I said what I said.

As far as it not playing immediately...holy shit. It works. Hallelujah. At the same time though, it's eerie. Kinda like no noise from the 360 when the game is installed. I'm kinda dumbstruck by it. Also when I try to exit a game, for some reason, the disc tries to spin. That's weird, too.

Oh, and Xbox Live is giving me many, many Error Codes.

I understand that they want to make money, but this is considered direct marketing to your customers and it seems that videogame companies don't use it, other media or companies do. I have to admit though, considering that it is pretty much a total revamp I would have to give MS a thumbs up. There is more stuff working than not working and seem to have delivered on a good experience. I do wish that the Netflix were working but I think it is on Netflix's end. Compared to Nintendo and Sony, it has taken forever to get any sort of update and nothing like this.

Finally, all they need is a iphone app to put really over the top. Not sure how well Microsoft would be with doing that, but I mean Google has their own phone and has some of the best apps. Here is what it should have...

* XBL Friends Updates w/ Status
* XBL Marketplace w/ download queue
* XBL Messaging
* XBL Spotlight updates for new demos, movies, etc.

So having the ability to queue up your downloads before you get home would be great.

Saw that earlier when there was nothing to add yet, but now it's just giving me a 500 error. I did like that they have my download history on there, so instead of scrolling down the list of the hundreds of items I've downloaded that has to refresh every 25 or so items I scroll through, I can just queue up a redownload from the much more simple browser version.

I have a weird bug with one of my Fallout 3 PC Achievements (Finding The Garden Of Eden) not showing the Achievement Picture when I look at the game profile on my Xbox 360 now. 2 other Achievements I got after it do show the pictures and in the Xbox Live PC games list all the pictures are showing up so I am not sure what happened.

I think that the best thing they could do is make the "X" bubble button a My Xbox button by double tapping it. Quick double press just brings you to that, would be easy and just as slick for function use, especially if you are in some marketplace menus.

Also once you update the device, on the Queue they leave notes if they can be played on the NXE. Some dissapointments are Walk Hard: The Dewy Cox Story and The Tick TV show. :/ fuck you Sony

I have Netflix activated, but can't get it working on my 360. I get sound, but no picture: just the white xbox 360 screen and the error message "secure HDCP link not found" that keeps popping up for me.

That means your HDTV (or monitor) is not HDCP complient. Meaning that if your running over HDMI or DVI the digital handshake that has to happen to make sure that your not capture carding or anything like that is not being done. Blame piracy and blame DRM.

Yup. I was sitting there with my 360 on, reading the codes off the TV, typing them into the activation page on my laptop.

It kept saying the code was not valid, so I clicked the "get a new code" button the 360, entered that new code, didn't work, rinse, repeat. I even tried using IE instead of FF, but that wasn't the issue.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. It sounds like Netflix is trying to steam an HD movie to your TV but your TV is not HDCP (High Def Copy Protection) compatible.

I think i've isolated the issue: It looks to be a handshake issue with just one of my HDMI ports. My panny broke down a few weeks ago, and when I had it repaired, the front HDMI port won't display any HDCP protected content---the 360 Netflix movies won't work, the charter dvr won't work..anything.

The netflix and cable work fine on the other two HDMI ports. Is there a way to "reset" an HDMI port to solve these HDCP handshake issues?--or is this something that has to be repaired by panasonic?

You have to add them to your queue on the Netflix website. You can't add them directly from your computer, yet. Not sure if that function will be added down the road. Would be cool, but not exactly sure if they will have like a whole Netflix Marketplace.

i downloaded it this morning around 830am EST and it downloaded fine. then it restarted and was updating, updating, updating.......then the bar stopped moving about 85% of the way there.

i tried to press B to cancel, then it froze on me. i restarted, and now i get the E68 error on my console.

if i unplug the HDD, it starts up on the dashboard just fine.....Any suggestions???

BTW the quality is pretty good for the streaming, it is DVD basically and plays in full widescreen if it has the option. Havn't seen HD quality yet but don't think I can.

I own a PS3, but have never bought a game.

Everything about Sony is disgusting. How they defeated HD DVD was disgusting, and now consumers get the format that's not as good.

Even down to movie theaters. I usually get discount passes when I go to the movies. Saves me about $3 per ticket. But Sony/Columbia films have told the theaters they are not allowed to take discount passes for their movies. They are the only movie company that has done that.

And now the netflix thing. They are such greedy sore losers they would rather muddy the watters of digital entertainment, just because they are now, as of today, two whole magnitudes behind their competitor in the interface/os department.

So fuck Sony. I saw Quantum of Solace, but it made me feel sick to give them money for it. I will still sometimes have to give them money to be a good little consumer, but when I can help it, I will always choose their competitor over them.

I think the main reason this wasn't out over a month ago (when it was finished) was that they had to go back and do tons of retro artwork for old games. They likely still don't have all of them done.

I do agree but I think right now they are putting R&D into the next console. If anything, a mistake last time was jumping away from the Xbox far too soon. The PS2 still sells a ton and what Microsoft should do is at least redesign it's hardware to really cut cost and slim it down before they announce a next gen hardware. This should include wifi and new HD system that would be cheaper.

I don't understand how you think the Wii menu is simpler than this? If you want to buy a game you have to go through multiple screens to even find it and tons of loading just to get into the store. I havn't used the PS3 XMB but this is pretty slick. Again, this is all new so if there are more tricks and tweaks I am sure we will all know about them soon enough. Just don't understand how this is not better than the old stuff, especially the loading times for menus and pictures.

If your system automatically logs you onto Xbox Live then your will see Spotlight first. If it just logs you onto your profile, you will get My Xbox first since you will be disconnected from Xbox Live.

I think that the best thing they could do is make the "X" bubble button a My Xbox button by double tapping it. Quick double press just brings you to that, would be easy and just as slick for function use, especially if you are in some marketplace menus.

Or map the 'Select' button to your friends list. That button is fucking useless except on the guitar/rock games. I could see them adding a dedicated 'Friends list' button to the next Xbox controller.

After looking through them, I would have probably got The Last Remnant Theme if not for the huge ass title in the middle of ths screen. Normally I'd stay away from Gears and Halo type themes, but that Halo Wars one is pretty sexy and I'm considering going for that one.

Wow, just played Bully after installing from Hard Drive..system sounds like a fan that is burning itself up. Slight churn/hum coming from the box. Not a major difference in load times though, however like others said, this will probably be corrected with new games that are made to take advantage of the process.

I installed Civ Rev last night and played through a game. It was MUCH faster. The game used to stutter around when doing disc access and all of that was gone. The saves were much faster too (for some reason those involved lots of disc stuff too). There used to be huge pauses while the game did stuff with the disc - all gone. It is MUCH smoother, and actually sped up my game quite a bit. Also, much quieter of course. Civ Rev is one of those games that starts and stops the disc all the time which is almost more annoying than the constant drone.

I have a 120GB and spent some time clearing off videos and demos (only had about 30GB free before the update) so I can install pretty much any game I plan on playing more than a few minutes ;).

As for the avatars vs Miis, I said this last night (who knows how many pages back that is!): even though the Avatars are more "realistic" looking I can't get one to look like me as much as my Mii does - it's all about the customization of feature placement.

There was an update just now, hopefully it fixed it a little.

I've only had that happen to me three times in Netflix. Once of which is when I started a download and forgot to immediately pause it on my PC. The other two times I think were today, shortly after the video began but thereafter it was fine.

Mine has locked up a couple time while viewing my friends. However, hitting the guide button and waiting a couple minutes got it going again. (I was just about ready to power it down.)

But yeah, I hope it gets resolved quickly.

I'm not too happy with the way some of the old themes look. Can't say I'm thrilled with the interface either. And the avatar feature feels gimicky. So far, not a good impression. Let's see how these new features (hard drive installs, etc.) work out...
