I live in California. Yesterday at around 7 i was in the left turn lane, waiting for the light to turn green so i could make my left turn. The light for other lane that was going straight turned green, and i thought it was my signal to go. I went about halfway into the intersection until i realized my signal was still red. This is a camera enforced intersection, but i didn't see any flashes (it was light out however). Do you think i will be getting a ticket?

No, no, I'm pretty sure you get locked up.

I've lived in California all my life; you should hear some of the horror stories my friends have had involving those cameras.

Man, you're trusting Wikipedia for matters as grave as this?

And those cameras are pretty good, since they have to get your plates. They definitely got you.
If you turn yourself in, you might be able to get off light.

They aren't going to lock you up for a simple traffic infraction. That's just ridiculous. I got nailed by a yellow red light camera in Delaware and I saw the flash in my rear view mirror. If you didn't notice a flash you may be okay. My fine was 75 dollars. Funny thing is the picture also caught a Delaware State Trooper (without his light bar on) going through at the same time. Wonder if he got fined?

the flash typically only goes off it it's quite dark. i noticed that twilight (around 7) usually isn't sensative enough to make the camera go.

btw, i'm in sd, and i HATE those things. i was driving casually and then the light changed to yellow. my immediate instinct was to hit the brake. i wound up almost stopping int he intersection, so i floored it instead. rear axle made it past the lines before red...so we'll see... this is a toss up:/

I'm pretty sure Liquid 2 is just joking. I've lived in California all my life, too: you don't get locked up for a red light violation, unless you're stupid enough to not show up for your court date or pay your fine. The camera takes your picture and license plate number and you get a ticket mailed to your address. That's all it is. No such thing as getting hauled off to jail.

I despise dbags bikers who use the road but don't obey the laws. Even more than drivers who don't obey the laws, because at the least the drivers know what they're doing is wrong, bikers usually think what they're doing is fine.

The key is to always slip on fake license plates over your real license plates. I recommend out-of-state license plates from the opposite coast.

Good luck, mrmafia33!

not sure how things are done in california....but i drove through one of those red light things once and i saw tons of flashes, this is during the day...if you didnt see any flashes, maybe that was NOT the red light corridor
(i didnt get a ticket btw, i saw one of those damn livery cabs like tailgating me through the intersection and he seemed visibly annoyed at the flashing)...

Its during daytime though so he probably couldn't see the flash, he's probably going to get a ticket in the mail. Maybe he can post the picture they send him and it'll show him looking scared looking directly at the camera

OP you will also have to do traffic school which costs another $100. That may not be mandatory, but if you don't do it I think its an automatic point. I believe if its your first offense you do not get a point on your record and it won't raise your insurance if you do the traffic school.

Of course I could be entirely wrong because this is going off the basis of an illegal left turn I made a couple years ago. A red light is much more serious, my ticket was only $60. They're both moving violations though so I'd imagine its the same process but more expensive.

i was just saying that since it wasn't dark, they don't necessarily need the flash (it doens't go off in the daylight).

just don't worrry about it until it comes. what's the point?

Might want to start saving for the ticket and look forward to the mailer with your photo printed on it. This happened to my wife when we were in Texas. She thought she saw a flash in her rear view mirror after going through an intersection. When we got back to Tennessee she had a letter with a ticket and picture included of the violation.

Not all the cameras are the same everywhere. The flash goes off regardless of the time of day in Texas.

As a biker who does that occasionally, lights with triggers don't pick up bikes meaning we can be stuck at red lights indefinitely until a car comes. If people are around I don't do it (don't need to), because it could be dangerous, but those lights piss me off.

That flash is bright enough to blind you if you're standing too close to it, and the flash goes off all the time, even in the day. Trust me, he didn't get a ticket.

You should buy a "reflective license plate protector" ;);) so it doesn't happen again.

Seriously, I see cars with these all the time around here. How are they not illegal?

God I hate those pesky cameras, they get you really paranoid. I work in an area where theres a lot of those camera enforced intersections, needless to say I got caught once and I had to pay $500+. Thats was a huge blow for a cheapass like me -_-.

You need to immediately report your car stolen and then leave it somewhere with a busted window (because it costs less than the traffic ticket) and let the police find it. Think long term here :D

If the camera was on (and it likely was) you probably got caught and missed the flash. I'd probably prepare for the worst here:

Your going to federal pound me in the a$$ Prison.

My mother works for a car dealership and they get the tickets on a daily basis since they provide loaner cars for customers have service done. The customer does something retarded and gets a camera ticket. Then they find the contract of whoever had that vehicle at the time of the ticket and essentially forward the bill to them (gotta love signatures and the fine print on contracts).

I work in an area infested with traffic cameras, red light, turning lane, etc. I haven't gotten a ticket (yet). One thing I've noticed watching others get caught is the camera doesn't go off immediately after the light goes red to allow the intersection to clear of vehicles in motion. It then gets everyone about a second after the light turns red.

In your case, being already stopped and then essentially running the red light, I'm willing to bet you were caught.

My mom got caught by a red light cam a few months ago. funny story actually. she was screaming at me for i have no idea, probably because i play too much xbox or something, and of course she was mad. SO she drives reallllyy recklessly when she is mad. and the light turned yellow when we are still like, a good 40 meters away still, and she guns it. FLASH, click, ticket.

Point is, it was broad daylight, and it still flashed. Rather brightly too. the letter in the mail was hilarious. picture on her face was priceless (the letter comes with 4 pictures of the "infraction": one of the drivers face, one of the front plate, and before and after pictures.)

Anyways, he didnt get a ticket. he couldve seen the flash if he was blind in one eye.

i doubt it works... and the camera doesn't always flash...
and the photos are digital so they can just look up you car type and if any # or letters show up in the system, you can still get the ticket...

i believe that it takes a picture of the driver, the car running the yellow to red, and the plate#

very hard to fight it in court... if you do get a ticket, it just means that no more $$$ to buy games this holiday season

Damn well heres the thing. The girl in the lane next to me was pretty hot. When i was backing up back into my rightful lane, I was chegging (chegg it) her out, and it might be possible that I didn't see the flash becuase of it. shieeeeeet

I got a ticket last week...not a red light camera..motorcycle cop.

You know how it is...most people dont think they deserve the ticket etc etc...well, thats me in this case.

*Ive had a hand full of tickets and Ive only ever fought 1, and I had it reversed because it wasnt issued by the cop that showed up, it was issued by someone higher up after the fact. Long story, not telling it now*

So anyhoo, Ive had a few tickets and if Im guilty, I take it like a big boy and handle my business.

I was in the middle of an intersection turning left on a yellow light. The light was still yellow as I started the turn.

A few secs later I had a motorcyle cop pull me over and gave me a ticket saying the light was red before I even entered the intersection, which was horsesh*t.

Im smart enough to know that THATS not the time to argue because cops have pretty much decided wether you get a ticket or a warning as they pull you over.

I get home and dig through the details...

Cost of running a red light in this town- 175.00
Court costs of dealing with said ticket- 102.00

Prob is I got it during work and for me to fight it, Id have to drive 1hr+ one way, take a chance on stating my case with a small town cop to a judge.

My thoughts are, suck it up, request deferred ajudication, pay the court costs, state my case via letter to the judge and hope he lowers the fine a bit.

Its cheaper this way but I hate not fighting a ticket I know Im right on.

What irks me even more is someone I work with, got popped for having weed on him, in a diff county though, and is getting off lighter than I am.

I've only ever had 1 ticket in my life and it was for the dumbest thing. Cop said i got in a turning lane too early. I only did it because i was in a lane full of cars at a red light and i needed to turn left. I wasn't going to wait in that line of cars for the light to turn green, just so i could get closer to the light before getting in the turning lane. He said i was about 250 feet from the light when i changed lanes, which isn't true. I drive by that area all the time and there's no way that was 250 feet.
