View Full Version : Thinking of signing up with Goozex

Alright, so I've been thinking for a while that I should try out Goozex. Just browsing the site a bit, it seems pretty good, and many CAGs here also use it. But I still have some questions and concerns

-How long will it take to get "matched"? Will it be automatic if I have enough points?
-How is priority? What if 5 people request a game but dont have enough points, I come along with enough points and request it, will I jump ahead of them or will I be stuck at #6? Or if there is a waiting list for a game, can someone with more seniority or points move ahead of me?
-What if they dont "reply"? How long will it take before the trade is canceled? Can I cancel it myself?
-How's the communication system? Can I talk to whoever is sending me a game, or can I give someone a DC number?
-How's the fraud system? Much creating fake accounts to get points, etc?
-Any types of limits? Can only recieve 5 games at a time or anything like that?
-Any other concerns or tips?

I'll also be signing up under a CAG obviously, a helpful post might give you more favor ;)

-How long will it take to get "matched"? Will it be automatic if I have enough points?

Depends on the game. For example:
http://www.goozex.com/trading/asp/itemdetail.asp?item=12539&tab=T#tabsection
GTA: Libery Stories has a bunch of people selling, but nobody buying. If you get in line to buy, and have enough points/trades, you'll get matched immediately. If you want to sell it, however, that could take a while. Some games have many sellers, few buyers, or vice versa*. If you sell full games, or buy disc-only, things move faster.

If there's people in the "ready" slot for the game/quality you're looking for, and you have enough points, matchup will be immediate.

*The extreme example would likely be games like:
http://www.goozex.com/trading/asp/itemdetail.asp?item=1326&tab=T#tabsection
Alundra 2, which is, for all practical purposes, unbuyable. Note the low price (unlikely to motivate sellers), the large number of buyers, and the total number of times the game has been traded.

You can only get games if you have enough points/trades, but if you're short, you stay in line.

-How is priority? What if 5 people request a game but dont have enough points, I come along with enough points and request it, will I jump ahead of them or will I be stuck at #6? Or if there is a waiting list for a game, can someone with more seniority or points move ahead of me?

Yes, you'll get the game immediately in that case, assuming there is someone willing to sell. If there isn't, though, any one of the five can change to "ready" by refilling points, or whatnot, and would then get the game ahead of you.

Everybody is in the same line. When making a match, the first person in the "ready" line for sellers is matched with the first person in the "ready" line for buyers, skipping over people that are "active" as needed. If you are active, you still move up in line, but will be ignored until you change to "ready".

This is complicated, and I'm not sure I explained it clearly. Feel free to ask for clarification....

-What if they dont "reply"? How long will it take before the trade is canceled? Can I cancel it myself?

Once a match is put in, the deadline is 24hr. I think you can cancel it yourself, but I've never tried.

-How's the communication system? Can I talk to whoever is sending me a game, or can I give someone a DC number?

Yes to both. (There's even a little box to put DCs in.) There's no need for communication in most trades; if you need to ask things like "greatest hits or first printing?" then Goozex isn't the best choice. For most trades as a buyer, I don't say anything, for most trades as a seller, I just put the DC in the box.

-How's the fraud system? Much creating fake accounts to get points, etc?

I assume they check IPs, but that's secret info. Extra accounts are unlikely to affect you, except in a very general way. They're good about responding to complaints. Always use DC.

-Any types of limits? Can only recieve 5 games at a time or anything like that?

Max in-transit games increase as you complete trades, and increase to unlimited. There's a list somewhere, but it's unlikely to be an issue after you complete your first trade.

-Any other concerns or tips?

Costs can change without warning for sellers, though they alert buyers. Goozex tends to undervalue old PC games, and overvalue DC/PS1 games a bit. You can buy points if needed, $5->100 points, and each game purchase costs one trade credit ($1, sold in packs of 5). There's a 100 point ($5) floor, so for CAG purposes, the cheapest games are $6. Shipping costs for games are around $3 (packaging+1st class+DC), so keep that in mind.

1. It depends. If you have the points and its a game not many people want and you are like top 3, you should get a message saying you are getting the game. If it is a really sought out game (let's say a new release), you could possibly be in queue over 50+

2. They have it where if 5 people want a game and only 2 people have enough points, the 2 people with enough points get priority over the other 3. And you sign up today and have the points, you will be number 3 in the queue.

3. You can request a cancel, but I do believe it is up to the person sending out the game to completely cancel the trade.

4.They have a pm system for chatting. They also have forums to chat on.

5.I haven't had any fraud happen to me, but there are stories of it. Like a user making up fake games and putting it on the site and using another account to "buy" that game, so he gets free points. It's best to google maps the address if you are sending out a game if the address is fishy just to make sure.

6.There is a limit, since you will be new I think they limit one trade simultaneously and after your first you get 3. When you get more positive feedback through trades, it goes up from there.

7. Google map the address if it looks fishy. If you are anal about the condition of the game and what comes with it (like me ;)), it never hurts to send the person a pm. If the game is not to your specifications, than you can request a cancel in trade and if the person is cool with it, he/she will accept the canceled trade.

Hope this helps

Matching takes a while depending on the queue of the game and the popularity
games like Wii fit, Pikmin 2, tetris DS, basically any rare games seem like they will never come.

Also it seems that whether you want a complete game, manual and game only, or just disc only has a huge factor in it.

I believe that you will move up in queue if the others do not have the points, I think i was 1st in line for Mario Kart wii and didnt have the trade credit or points so they moved my to 5th place. Not 100% sure since i dont care to check my goozex unless i get an email but it seems as this is the case.

If no one replies to your game request it will be canceled in 26hrs, you can also cancel yourself after they accept but not before. Also once you are matched to trade with someone you can cancel before you ship it, if you decide to keep the game.

Communication will be between you and the seller, no different than ebay. If they want to reply they will, if they want to put delivery confirmation they will, etc. I dont care that much about the communication, I just want my game on time.

Limits depend on your trading feedback, the more points the more games you can trade at once.

Some tips from me? Well lets see, I know this is CAG and everyone likes their games complete, but for goozex I could care less. I always list my games Manual and Disc only. Once its ready to be traded, I throw box in a bubble envelope and slap 2x First Class stamps on it. I include everything I can except the case, so its basically complete once you get a case, but you dont have to waste as much shipping at the post office.

There's my answers, Now sign up under me in Sig! :-)

Oh, one other question, is there a way to request any condition? If I was the only one to request game X in a disk only condition, and someone had it avaliable as complete, would it give it to me?

You can request the game as either complete (disc, manual, case), incomplete (games, case), and disc only (just the disc). If you want a complete game, but everyone else has it as disc only, I think the trade will not go through.

You didn't answer his question.

Yes, if you request disc only, and someone is trading it as complete, it will match you with him.

I think you mean "full package" (disc, manual, case, insert), "disc + manual" (self explanatory) or "disc only" (which could mean the disc by itself, or the disc + case.

Beware, there's been a few instances where people have thought that "game + case" meant full package. Absolutely not. :bomb:

A tip about shipping:

Goozex has an excellent thread about using Paypal Shipping. It circumvents the need to ever step foot in a Post Office (unless you're shipping to Canada), and Delivery Confirmation is only 18cents instead of 75cents.

Google the words "goozex cheap mailers". It'll be the first non-ad link from the search (I could give you the direct link, but you'll need this link every time you want to use Paypal Shipping, so it's best to remember how to find it easiest rather than most directly). The link to the actual Paypal Shipping page is in the first post halfway down. I would highly suggest reading some of the thread, it answers many if not all questions about shipping and Goozex.

The only downfall to this method is needing to know the weight of your package. I picked up a nice digital scale from Dealextreme.com for $10.90 shipped, it works great and it's small enough to keep stashed with your games available for trade.

the link to the scale I bought:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1165

If you do some searches/browsing in the Goozex forum threads, you can have virtually all the answers you've ever wanted to know about anything Goozex related.

My personal experience so far: I haven't had a single bad condition game, even the PS2 discs and a PS1 disc I've gotten have all been in excellent condition. I try to follow the golden rule on Goozex, and it seems most others do as well. If you're offering something, be sure it's in a condition you'd expect it to be in if you were to receive it yourself.

And finally: Think of the condition (complete, game+manual, disc only) as "at least this or more". I recently traded Orcs & Elves DS. It was complete, but I didn't include the uber-limited edition wand stylus that came with the first run at Wal-Mart. I listed it as disc+manual since I didn't feel I was including everything that came with the original package (the wand stylus is actually mentioned on the front and back of the actual cover). Technically it was complete, but using the Goozex suggestion of "at least this or more" it fit nicely in the disc+manual category. It took much longer to get a match, but I felt 100% honest and positive that there would be no complaints on the other end, after all they weren't even expecting a case...

Another question, what if I have two games on my offer list, 200 and 400 points each that are both avaliable. I send a game and get 500 points for that game. So which game will I recieve? Can I choose? Or do I have to "manipulate" it by puting one game onto my hold list and hoping that I recieve the other?

I think it's basically random. If you want one more than the other, I'd drop the other one in the hold list.

You can gauge by looking at the trading info for each game and seeing your current spot.

Well, hypothetically if I was to be next for both games.

Hmm, if its random, well I guess I'll stay in line for now. The games are avaliable, but everyone who's requesting doesnt have enough points. So hopefully I can sell some things soon and get some back :D

Best thing for points AFAIK is wii sports. Its $7 at Gamestop and is worth 500 pts.
