Problem opening mpeg files... this has to be easy...

I have always clicked on video files and was given the option to save the file or open with the program of my choice. Now I only get the option to save with mpg files. I am using Firefox and playing videos in Windows Media Player and never had any problems before. Any idea on how to fix this? I haven't changed any settings (that I know of). Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about opening files from Firefox?

For Firefox 2.x: Go to Tools > Options, then the Content tab, the manage button should let you choose how you want Firefox to handle files.

For Firefox 3.x: Go to Tools > Options, then the Applications tab, you can choose how you want Firefox to handle files.

I'm using Firefox 3. Basically I can only open AVI and WMV files, anytime you click on a mpg file you only get the "save to" box. I'm using Windows Media Player. Sorry for the poorly worded original question. I re-edited the original post and hopefully make it more clear. Thanks for any help.

I've gotten the same file types all the time before from he same site no problems. I checked other sites and again only mpg files will save but not open in WMP. I can save and open them but not just open and play them. Saving them is a pain in the arse when all you wanna do is watch something once.

Copy the url, then open WMP, hit Ctrl-U then paste the url there?

Not really the most glamorous or easy of solutions, but it will keep you from having to save the thing.

But really, I think BlueLobstah covered it. Somehow the MPG files probably got changed in the options from "open with" to "save to my computer" or something.

Thanks, that Control U helps. I've dug through the options in WMP but I don't see anything where I would choose wether to open or save. Where can I find that?

Not in WMP, in Firefox.

Go to Tools>Options>Applications tab. In the search field, type mpg, then in the dropdown box choose "Use Windows Media Player"
