I entered the chat and told at least Regian that we were trying to break into to smaller groups so we could get better play going. Apparently he did not hear or did not deliver the message. The game is simply easier to play in smaller groups. You don't have to cry about it. If you had a mic maybe we could communicate with you better.

I was waiting around for you guys to make a game and then I was trying to get my own room when you saw me joining and leaving the dressing room. I didn't want to come off like a dick and say, hey guys we don't want to play with you. Instead I wanted to get our own thing going on while you and n8rockerasu or whoever played.

So that's why I told you what was going on when you sent me the voice message on XBL.

We won like 4 or 5 games when it was us three playing, and then we did the game with 5 players and lost. After that I wanted to go back to 3 players since we were doing so well.

You wouldn't have come off as a dick to me. I completely understand if you wanted to have a game with you three, that's not a problem. My problem was with the way it was handled and that I had to initiate contact to figure out what was going on.

Nothing has to be secretive, all you have to do is communicate. I think you're a cool dude, so it's not like I'm going to harbor an anger against you if you want to go in and play with a group of your choosing. I just don't want to be the one hanging out in the dressing room with no clue and what's going on.

I have to say I'm really against the idea of having a NHL squad and an AHL squad. For one thing, the stat tracking on this game is so fucked up there is no accurate way to gauge who is better than who. Also, the competition is always different for everyone, we never play against the same online players. And since there is no matchmaking I know of, it really doesn't set up well to get an accurate reading of ones abilities. Finally, I just think it is an unnecessary division of the club. What is the advantage of this, to make the less skilled people feel like morons who have to swim in the kiddy pool? We should all just concentrate on getting better and most importantly have fun. Just my 2 cents.

I gave my reason for not having my mic on. And the letterman jacket thing was a joke. I kept asking Regian what was going on, and even suggested that you guys didn't want to play with us, and all he told me was "hang on" and "one sec".

I just wish I had known what the deal was. I didn't know if it was even working on my end, or if I was doing something wrong. As I said, I've yet to play in a team game, but that's sort of the main reason I bought this game. I just don't want to be purposefully excluded.

I will say I am really pissed off at my brother, Tootsieroll69. Here is the short story.

He is not a member of the CAG site, as me and my other brother Wpark83 are. We signed up for the team, and then my other brother, who is not a member of CAG, told me he was getting the game and I told him about the team. So I asked Apathy to put him on the team, not thinking it was too big a deal.

I get a call from my brother last night saying no one is ever on to play (not true) and that he wanted 2 of his friends to join. I told him that wasn't possible, and he should start his own if he wanted to play with them. We never asked to leave the team, but he got us kicked somehow.

My brother Wpark83 and I would like to be re-added back to the team, but with the problems you had with my other less intelligent brother, I wouldn't blame you if you won't allow us back. You aren't doing this for your health, you are doing something good for a bunch of other people and I appreciate it.

What does that GM column mean when you're looking at the roster of the team? When I looked at it last night, I saw FrankySox^ and Matt ( I think was their name) had a check mark in their box. I try to check the locker room once a night, but I haven't run into any cags in there as of yet. I've played goalie a couple times and I think I'm getting the hang of it.

Ok guys, here's the announcement for the big changes I was thinking about making to the team.

Either tonight or tomorrow night, I will be deleting everyone off of the team and will be doing away with the current CAG team. But fear not, because a new CAG team will rise like a phoenix from the ashes with a clean record.

We also noticed that some players stats are not being saved the right way, and we are hoping this will also fix that problem. So if you get online later tonight or tomorrow night and see you are no longer apart of the team, just wait 20 minutes or so and you should have a new invite waiting for you and you'll be able to rejoin the team.

We are going to take care of this as quickly as possible.

They try to skate end to end and miss golden centering passes over and over again. I'm not the best player, but I could care less about scoring. Thanks Matt. The only "reason" I could see was for voicing my concern about people getting clique-y. I didn't mean anything huge by it though...just trying to point out that we're all on the same team. Either way, I just want to be able to play for CAG, and keep my mouth shut.

To illustrate my commitment, I was so desperate to play last night, I created a club called the "Vazhins" with the club initials VAG. When I saw that Kazakhstan was a choice for the jerseys, I just had to. I wanted to call it "Sleeve of Wizard" but I think it was too many letters. It was at that point that I really wished EA had put Rock Band 2's "logo creator" in this game as well. Sadly, nobody joined my team and I deleted it this morning.

we have to pass way more from the half-line when going into our zone...

if you have the puck and 4 guys are in front of you, you aren't going to get by them. we need more passes.

defensively our team is playing very well, we gotta watch out pressing pass though when the goalie is covering the puck.

My Xbox just red ringed during a COD4 match with CAGs. It froze, then when I tried to restart it, bam, red ring. Unlike the first time (where it also froze during COD4) there were no warning signs.

You actually can play games with other random people/teams. I think you can level up your player as well and you can still stay on the CAG team.

I agree with this. I know you guys also have the league going on...and some of us have Madden as well, but do we want to declare an official weekly "CAG Team Hockey Night"? Not a required time, but just a generally agreed upon time that we'll try to get on and play some CAG hockey.

For instance, I'll just throw out maybe Thursday nights at 10 pm est? I don't know. It could be a stupid idea, and work about as poorly as anything else, but I'm just brainstorming here.

I like the way you think. I'm on at random times due to insomnia causing an abnormal sleep schedule, going to the gym 4 times a week (well, those are set days) and random social excursions, even though I have been staying in a lot lately. That, and I have a lot of new games I want to play. But we don't need me to be present for games to be played, obviously, so I'm good with setting up a day that is most suitable for the majority of team members.

And to do damage control before any potential conflict arises, I wasn't calling Wpark stupid, just his idea for reasons already mentioned (further segmenting the community). In my experience, he is a good person and a good player and I would like to have him back. Wpark, please understand that this is a time when many AAA games are releasing, and that combined with lack of on-forum organization is what is leading to inactivity.

Yeah all you have to do to fix this is clear your cache. Just go to the system blade and choose memory. Then press Y when you have the hard drive highlighted, then press X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X. Then a message will pop up asking if you want to perform maintenance on the storage device. Select yes and you'll be good to go!

Quick re-cap of what it is covering:

The jersey on the EASHL side select screen is more visible than
the team logo. This will make it easier for people to see when jersey

Deking controls normal when shooting downscreen with "Always Up"
controls

Checking has been tuned so you will see less big hits from guys
that aren't traditionally known for hitting

Less CPU AI one-timers

Increased the height of dump ins, for a better dump and chase

No more goals from flip dumps

Better CPU AI logic near offensive blueline so they don't go

CPU goalie will not drag the puck back toward himself in a
shootout

We have fixed the goals from outside shots that people are
scoring. We have reduced shot accuracy when on the rush and when turning
quickly, and from far out. You will now have to be more conservative
when shooting on the rush. If you aim all the way to the left or right,
your shot will go wide a lot more. Try aiming more towards the middle to
hit the net from outside. This fixes the cross goal where you shoot back
the other way, and the goal that goes in with the "curve" animation, and
a few others. There's a reason NHL players don't shoot from outside on
the rush very often. Dumping or trying to set up is a better play unless
you have an odd-man situation.

We reduced the time it took to get control of the goalie by 1/3.

When line changes are set to auto, and a user changes
lines/defense manually between whistles, the line/defensive pair you
asked for will come out (or stay out).

If you have line changes off in Be a Pro, line change player
chatter will be turned off.

When using a defenseman in BAP, BAP player won't get stuck on
the bench and will be able to call for change

The EASHL will now go to continuous 5v5 overtime until one team
scores. This way nobody has to sit out, and you get to decide who wins
(this is now just like the NHL Play-offs)

The proper own-goal cut scene will be shown where the player who
scored on himself is upset.

All cut scenes should now show players sitting in their
respective team's bench.

Increase AI team aggressiveness and the likelihood of them
getting called for a penalty on an infraction.

If Vision Control is pressed, you do not throw a hit when in
front of the attacking net. This helps with rebound shots.
Increase the likelihood of a penalty if the stick hits the body
during a stick lift.

Reduce the accuracy of shots for penalty shots and shootouts.
Aiming for just inside the post is a lot tougher now.

The changes have now made the game ALOT harder... I went from scoring 1-2 goals most games in Be a Pro, to only being able to hit 2 posts, no points in 3 games since.

It makes it much more realistic though, online is also more enjoyable.

I'm totally up for this. I still play this game all the time. I'm basically done with MLB 08, and I've given up on Madden. I'm also not buying a basketball game this year, so NHL 09 is my sports game of choice until at least March. I'd really like to play with CAGs because playing in the online community tends to suck. Most people won't start a game until it's 6 on 6, and then once all the forward positions are taken, people quit, thus completely defeating the purpose of waiting.

And then you get the people who will choose defenseman, but lead the charge into the offensive zone the whole freaking game. One game I played last night had so many 2 on 0 breakaways because of shitty defensemen. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing a faceoff won back to a defenseman, who then attempts to bring the puck into the zone himself.

Wait, no, that's not true. What REALLY pisses me off are the arrogant pricks who think they're a god in net, and choose goalie when there are other positions available (can't blame people who get stuck with it in the 6 on 6 game..but that gets back to my first point of 6 on 6 being a waste of time). Then they give up 3 goals in the 1st period. I can understand maybe "trying goalie out" once or twice, but if you suck at it, just stay away.

Anyway, yeah, let's please get some CAG team hockey going. Even if we pick a specific day and time as a CAG Hockey Night. I'd really enjoy it.

There will always be some way to score cheap ass goals (pun intended). And you will always have people who don't play their position correctly. But playing with CAGs should keep the latter to a minimum, anyway.

For example, my player is an offensive oriented center, and I'm above average at that position, but I do not mind- and I even enjoy- playing defense. I'll hold back at the blue line when we're on offense, set up the pass when necessary, and shoot a one timer if the opportunity arises. But other than that, I'll enjoy hitting the shit out of people and stealing the puck away when the other team thinks they have a good breakaway opportunity.

As for a night to play, any suggestions? All nights are pretty much equal for me. I may be on; I may not be. I can only pretty much guarantee availability later on in the evening when some of you might be in bed. But if people can agree on a day/time, I'll try to be there. I hope this team continues to be active.

I shouldn't have said lurker. I think "lurker" has a negative connotation. I guess I meant more like a ghost. Be around when I feel like it, and if people give me shit, I'll disappear. As for an actual night for CAG Hockey Night, my suggestion before was Thursday nights at 10/11 pm eastern. Trying to find an agreeable time for both east and west coast CAGs is tough, but to me that's kinda in between late and early. I'd just like to hear other people's suggestions, so we can kinda gauge interest.

Thursdays, I am available before 9 Eastern and after midnight Eastern.

I'm on Pacific time and I go to the gym 4 days a week, 2 of those time being on weeknights. Mondays and Thursdays, if I am home, I have TV shows that I don't like to miss. I'm weird about watching things live. I do tape stuff, but only if I go out. I really need a DVR, I guess.

But I can play up through 9 Eastern most days, most of that time being afternoon in my time zone, and then I'm almost always available late at night except on Fridays and Saturdays (but sometimes even those days). Not trying to make this about me event hough the amount of "I"'s in this post make it seem that way. I'm just hoping that even if I can't make the regularly scheduled night and time that everyone decides on, that there will still be people available to play late with me.

Well, the first week of CAG Hockey Night was a success! We played for over 4 hours and had some 4 man games going, and even managed to win a couple! Thanks to everybody who showed up! I think this is definitely the way to go if anyone has any desire to actually play games on the CAG team, as opposed to just filling a roster spot.

I know some people might not be able to play on Thursdays, but having an "official" night just gives people something to shoot for. I had a fun time playing with you guys, and can't wait to do it again next week. Hopefully more people will join us too!

That's cool man. I figured somebody knew why you had to leave, haha. I do kinda wish the OP would be updated distinguishing the more active players (starters) from the "that sounds cool" group (benchwarmers). I guess it depends how much interest this stirs back up in Pure Apathy. I'd be all up for maintaining it, but alas, I am powerless, haha.

As for a first night though, I don't think it went badly at all. Really, unless we had an outstanding human goalie, we wouldn't want more than 5 at a time. It would be cool to have a couple teams going at once though, and maybe swap teammates after awhile, to mix it up a little more.

I'm open to moving the day to like a Saturday or something as long as that doesn't screw it up for the 5 who were committed enough to show up last night. Yes, you have to play a regular ranked vs game to unlock this. You can actually go to the Leaderboards screen and invite a friend to a 1v1 ranked session to make it easier. To lock yourself as the goalie, before the game loads, when it lets you edit your lines. Hit LT to go to the goalie screen. Highlight your starting Goalie and hit 'X'. It will show the letter "G" underneath your controller icon to indicate you are locked to play as the goalie. Just go ahead and make one save and then run out the clock. Achievement should unlock that way.

Make sure you are the only profile signed in and that your controller is linked to the first spot on the xbox. I had my rock band stuff plugged in when I got this last night and it seemed to be stopping the achievement from unlocking.

If you need a hand with it just let me know and I'd be happy to help.

It would also serve as a test run to see if Friday works out for more people since it won't conflict with Call of Duty Night, and other commitments people may have. Hey guys! As I've mentioned to a few of you, I'm thinking of moving CAG Hockey Night to Friday this week (since Thursday is Thanksgiving). It would also serve as a test run to see if Friday works out for more people since it won't conflict with Call of Duty Night, and other commitments people may have. If it goes well, we could keep it on Friday from now on. Let me know what you guys think...and if you'll be available for:

Yeah man, it's for the actual CAG team. Last week was really fun. Going up against Call of Duty Night, we still had 5 guys show up over the course of 4 hours (mostly had 4 man games going).

However you want to do it is cool. Playing against each other over and over again might get a little stale though, haha. But we could play a couple against your guys. But you'd have to talk to one of the captains (Pure Apathy, Matt Young, etc.) about rejoining the team for the day. I'm powerless there.

Hmm...I have no idea about that. I don't know if there is a way to go from the dressing room to a set up game. That's a good question.

In regards to CAG Hockey Night #2, though, we had another good night. I think we had 5 guys show up over the course of the 4+ hours that we played. Only two of those guys played last week (myself and GLOCKGLOCK).

Other CAGS who showed up were: AK85/AK85, SeanAmI/S3anAmI, and cubs2321/DarkTower80

I'm hoping that the guys from last week who couldn't make it this week was more because of the holiday than playing on a Friday night. For now, I'm thinking of keeping CAG Hockey Night on Friday, UNLESS enough people speak out against it. Friday availability for me will change on a week to week basis. Sometimes I feel like going out; sometimes I don't. Then there are the hockey games. Next Friday, there's another Reign game. After that, no more in December. However, there are 2 Friday night Kings games. January and February feature 3 Friday night Reign games in each month, so I won't be back till late.

So I guess in the end that all means that I will be able to play, but not till just as late as I was able to on Thursday. It doesn't really make a difference. But we can always get a few games in on any given day of the week.

I would love that honor. I know I ditched on my Madden league, but I actually give two shits about this game (sometimes 3! :lol:) NHL is my sports game of choice until at least April...and probably even until NHL 10 comes out.

I briefly thought about the need to "restructure" the team, but I'd hate to remove anybody even on the sheer chance that they might show up for one CAG Hockey Night. I guess as long as we haven't reached our max 50 limit, there's no need.

I think we just need to get the word out on CAG Hockey Night. I wish there would have been an update on NXE to allow you to set "game timers" for people on your friends list to send them reminders of pre-set game nights. That would have been useful.

But yeah, just check with Apathy. See if he minds if we handle the team. Let him know that the first two CAG Hockey Nights were actually pretty damn successful, and that there's plenty of room for people who enjoy playing hockey.

As far as the CAGNHL tag, I always see people on it... They're just always playing something else. But that's the exact reason to have a set game night. With the ridiculous amount of good games that have come out lately, it's unfair to expect people to be playing NHL all the time. HOWEVER, I don't think taking one night out of the week to play hockey with your felllow CAGs is unreasonable.

So far, we've had 2 weeks of CAG Hockey Night. Haha, understood ;) Sorry, I just saw all the posts and thought people were ganging up. But yeah, CAG Hockey Night #3 is scheduled for Friday, 12/5/08 from 10 PM EST to 2 AM EST. I'll be on the whole time, but others are welcome to show up whenever they can make it. Nobody's going to get mad if you don't play the whole time, haha.

I'm honestly just hoping for overall team improvement and better chemistry week to week. The one thing I think we need to work on is setting up plays and looking for guys infront of the net. As a team, we generally don't score much. We do check the hell out of teams though! I think one game last week we had 80 hits in the game! Unreal!

I'll be on Friday for some games. After playing the past two weeks, it would be great to get some full 5v5 games going.

Just my quick observations after playing the past two weeks. We obviously need to shoot and pass more instead of carrying the puck around. Throwing it on net once you gain the zone is never a bad idea. Either that, or hit an open guy with a pass. It seems that very often, especially against user controlled defensemen, whoever is carrying the puck gets knocked off the puck right as they gain the blue line, which usually leads to a rush for the other team. If you do carry the puck in deep, we need other forwards to go to the back post and get open for one timers.

Just a quick question for the guys who have played this game alot. Are the majority of teams online using the same exploits/cheap goals over and over, or it is just me? It seems almost every goal online falls into 2 or 3 categories:

1. Guy carries puck up center of ice, drifts in the slot and hits one of the corners of the net on an impossible shot between the defenseman.
2. Winger carries it down boards into corner and slides a pass across the goalie to someone on the back post for an easy tap in.
3. Some random garbage goal where someone throws it to the net, it hits a post or the goalie misplays it and it ends up getting knocked in by the goalie or a defenseman.

Nate and I were playing late last Friday and in game 1 the other team had all 5 positions under user control, and they just exploited #1 and #2 listed above for like 8 goals. It was even worse because we had CPU defense and they never adjust to anything. Then in game two we came back from 2 - one goal deficits. Both our goals were good goals that involved either a deke on the goalie or some good passing/shooting, but all 3 of the goals the other team scored fell into one of the categories above.

Is this how most games end up going online?

I've never seen shot accuracy like that before. They would just cruise down the ice, fire a slapshot, and place everything perfectly in a corner, as close to the post as you could possibly get. Nothing they had was really "garbage", but it was improbable as hell.

Also, I generally consider skating along the boards and then centering the puck infront of the net to be a good play. But good defense should also stop it. Either A: your defensemen should knock that shit away. Or B: your goalie should pounce on it as it drifts lazily across the ice right infront of his damn face.

Both defensemen and our goalie were computer controlled, and they couldn't stop that play to save their lives. I stopped it a couple times by just sitting in the passing zone, but it's just stupid for a center to be diving infront of his own goal all night.

I'm not sure whether to attribute that game to "glitches" or just being ridiculously overmatched by a team that obviously has their stats maxed out and plays together a lot. Either way, we ran into a freaking buzzsaw! The best thing we can do is improve our own stats and chemistry. Then, we look for the rematch! 8-)

I think I called it a night after that game. That was absolutely ridiculous, every single shot was perfectly placed. They had to have their stats super high because it seemed like they could just skate circles around us.

I had fun tonight. Played 4 games, in pairs, watching Smackdown in between. Once I get my DVR in a month or so, I can stay on and play the full time when I'm home on Friday nights. I normally tape the show when I go out, but if I'm home I like to watch live since I have no remote for my VCR and hate having to keep getting up to fast forward through commercials, LOL.

I echo Matt Young's sentiments. We had a really fun night last night. I was really impressed by all the CAGs who came out! It was cool having multiple games going at once. I could hardly keep up with who was playing with who.

I know we're definitely not the best team in EASHL, but we rarely get embarrassed. A lot of times I just think our guys are outmatched statistically. We play against teams who are bigger and faster, and are ridiculously skilled at handling the puck. I almost wish the game would show you the players ratings for the guys on the other team before the game starts, so you would at least know what you're going up against.

I echo Matt Young's sentiments. We had a really fun night last night. I was really impressed by all the CAGs who came out! It was cool having multiple games going at once. I could hardly keep up with who was playing with who.

I know we're definitely not the best team in EASHL, but we rarely get embarrassed. A lot of times I just think our guys are outmatched statistically. We play against teams who are bigger and faster, and are ridiculously skilled at handling the puck. I almost wish the game would show you the players ratings for the guys on the other team before the game starts, so you would at least know what you're going up against.

For the little time I was there, It was a blast. I think what set's us off and makes us different is that we are just playing to have fun and it's a blast. Sure we might lose by 4, but F it. Were having a blast playing with other CAG's.

Also, I was wondering for those that saw me play, What do you think I could Improve on? I was playing Left D(#2-Russell) last night Cause somebody took my Right D ;) It's all good though.

I think my problem is when it's a one on one and I go to check and it completely misses. Also IMHO, The cross checking penalties are bogus, half the time you get them, half the time you don't.
