I was thinking about getting one of these for a few reasons. Mainly because of it is small and easy to carry around, cheap price and supposed durability.

However, I am just not sure. Would this be worth the $300? The only thing I would really be using it for is Web Surfing and document editing on the go. Having only Linux is no problem for me as I am comfortable using it.

So, does anybody have experience with these? Mainly I want something that will run a web browser smoothly and not give me a bunch of errors or slowdowns. I also want something that will be durable. Also, if I purchased a small compact USB HDD, would I be able to use that on this Laptop?

I thought abour buyiung one of these suckers for a while, and I think it would be a good buy for Web and Office. I dont know how durable it is, maybe someone that has one can tell you how strong it holds itself together? I'm pretty sure it has usb, at least I think I read that somewhere, and if it does you should be able to use it on the laptop. I'm not sure about speeds though, it may not have USB 2.0 so it might crawl.

I have a friend who went 2G and regretted it immediately. He said he'd have been better off putting extra money into the EEE to get a bigger drive, a better battery, whatever other benefits come on the more expensive models. He described the performance as sluggish, also, but I think he may have had unfair expectations of a 600 MHz CPU.

See the other thread on ultraportables for alternatives or for encouragement on the wait-and-see front.

$300 is really steep. We have the 4G at my retail job and I think that isn't worth it either. You might be able to find the 2G on sale for $199 or used for cheaper. I see a lot of people wanting to get rid of them because they either can't get what they want out of them or want one of he 9in models (900, 901). I'd suggest the MSI Wind for $500 you get a 10inch screen, 1.6gHz, 1gb RAM, and an 80gb hdd.
