The 360 controller would be perfect if it wasn't for the d-pad. I'm looking to play about a 50/50 mix of emulated classics and relatively new stuff. Recommendations appreciated.

I really liked the 360 controller, friend has it. I've been trying to find one, but $60 is quite a bit for one.

You might look into a SNES to USB converter or something like that if you want a better dpad

I'd say get the controller and than an arcade stick for the emulation stuff.

I'd just get one of those Playstation to USB adapter so you can plug your original PSOne controller (like Dualshock 1) to your PC and still have the analog sticks as well as a nice D-pad. I use one of those and Windows recognize them without wonky drivers.

Either a PS2 to USB adapter or if you can't find them the defiantly a Logitech Rumblepad. I just picked up a wired Rumblepad so I could play a few games and I must say it is a PS2 controller almost exactly with higher select and start buttons and a little bit worse d-pad but the positioning is the same as the PS2 so it isn't horrible like the 360.
They a wired and wireless version of the rumblepad.
The PS3 controller is great too.

I've got one of those PSOne to PC adapters new in the box gathering dust on a shelf in my game room if anyone wants it. I'll send it to you for $5 to cover the shipping. PM me if anyone is interested.
