Swansea, MA Toys R Us still has one more TRU Exclusive Punisher for 10.99. The Mugg had a slight mark on it though. I picked up one of the last two for my friend who collects. :)

Yet another wave of SW Muggs goes retailer exclusive: http://jediinsider.com/index.php?catid=8&itemid=11517
This time, it's the Wicket/Wampa/Emperor's Guard/Qui-Gon wave that's an internet retailer exclusive. I can see doing Red Skull/Thanos as an exclusive, as they're relatively obscure characters and one is a Nazi. And I can see doing the last two Indy Muggs as exclusives, since the line was pretty much dead in the water. But I don't understand why a wave of fairly mainstream characters is being pushed as an exclusive. Unless the collectibles market is taking a bigger hit than we even know.

Am I the only one who thinks the new pricing for these is kind of a rip off ... I was there from the start buying them when they were reasonably priced ... but 10.99 ... come on ... these aren't worth $10.99 ... especially since the economy continues to slide as the price of toys increases. There's just no way for me to justify the cost anymore ... they still look cool ... but considering they don't "do" anything ... just can't do it. Well, at least not for the one's in stores, maybe the Comic Con exclusives will still be worth it at 15 or so.

Most of us have been taking advantage over Target's temporary price cut of $8.99 per Mugg. $10.99 is just $1 above what they were before...yeah it sucks but $1 won't make me quit collecting them yet.

Definitely mid to late February. I recall seeing something between 21st-23rd.
I know my Target is holding back their stock now, after I bought Wolverine there was only one of him left, then a few days later there were two again, with nothing else added. I'll have to find a geeky employee to see about finding me a shock trooper...

target uses the same item numbers for the different lines of muggs ie star wars, ij, joe, marvel. if someone would be nice enough to post the numbers from the receipts and who they bought on that receipt then it might help alot.
indiana jones - 087-06-0950 - mola ram and swordsman
marvel - 087-06-0187 - silver iron man

I got a baroness and destro at a local target. They're the only ones I've seen so far, which is why I'm only interested in getting rid of the baroness (I like destro and want to keep one). The box is perfect.

I bought one of these awhile ago for my now-ex .. she loves the Hulk, so I picked one up for her. Kind of wish I took it back when we broke up, 'cause they are awesome.
I really want one of those Iron Man ones though.. with the new look Iron Man though. Go figure that it's rare and like, $60+ on eBay. That's ridiculous. I hate how people insanely overprice things like that.

i actually have a somewhat noble cause for mine. at least, it started that way...
i've got a 9-month-old son, and i started buying the star wars muggs because they're somewhat more kid friendly. big and chunky. not many small parts. i'm actually buying the mighty muggs for him. and the plan is to use them to help introduce him to star wars, marvel, etc... and eventually pass them on.

True to a degree, however they are toys so I have to let them compete with things like Legos and video games when I'm buying them. Lately I've had trouble justifying the purchase compared to certain collectibles that are more interactive (Video game CE's and action figures that do a bit more, can be built, etc). But they have risen in cost to around the same price as smaller, collectible vinyls sold in places like Urban Outfitters. I just have to wonder if Mighty Muggs are truly collectible, since they keep re-releasing the hard to find ones. If they don't hold their value, then they're just another toy ... and judged in that light, they are cool but they don't do much.

i'm very nervous that the "online exclusives" spell the end of the line for mighty muggs.
the current star wars figures are target exclusive. maybe because no other retailers ordered them? and now, the next two waves look to be online exclusive, again, because nobody else wanted to carry them? and if places like walmart and toys r us don't carry your toys, it becomes really hard for a toy line to stay financially worthwhile for a company.
but looking at the way things have been going... it makes sense. after the next wave of marvel, we've not seen anything. destro and baroness are hitting stores now, but there's been no sense of anymore joe characters beyond that. indy muggs were canceled a long time ago because the line couldn't hold past the movie's release. and wave 3 of transformers were considered "canceled" by entertainment earth even before the first wave was released.
perhaps nothing is planned, and things are being canceled... because hasbro has no desire to continue. or rather, retailers have no desire to order more.
hate to bring the mood down, but as someone who's been down this road before... online exclusives seem like the beginning of the end. a final attempt for hasbro to cut its losses.
yukafls
02-01-2009, 02:33 AM
I like the characters in the exclusives but not enough to pay $5 extra for them, I mean come on. Look at the Red Skull and Thanos, no Luger for RS or gauntlet for Thanos??? I think it would be better off to have them like the punisher one or iron man, limited amounts in a certain store or in the comic cons.

The lack of new MM's could also stem from the fact that there isn't much expandability in the line, outside of adding new licenses. Most toys thrive off the need to buy the "next cool thing," for example GI Joes have vehicles, or bases, etc. Action figures have pieces of other figures with them that compel individuals to buy the complete set.
Mighty Muggs really don't have that, aside from the hole in one of their feet (someone should customize a vehicle and give Hasbro an idea). Not to mention the shelf space dedicated to MM's is negligible at most stores I go to.
This tends to indicate it's a niche product ... the only benefit I see to the online-exclusive lines is that it guarantees the potential for additional value if you collect them or plan to sell them someday. Other than that, I would agree it's probably bad for their longevity as a product.

A really awesome way to get your son into SW is the Lego SW games. That is how I got my son hooked on SW when he was 4 years old. Yesterday, he turned six and guess what his theme was? That's right, a Star Wars party. The only thing that was off was his birthday cake because it had Luigi on it (which is still cool, imo).
Anyways, after the party I stopped by Target to pick up some DiGiorno's pizza/Coke (BTW, thanks for that LinkinPrime) and I found a C-3PO. We have been looking for that MM for a while. It was a nice extra b-day present for my son.
That Scout Trooper looks awesome but DocRamon's foreboding post is not good news at all. Target's "temporary price cut" on MMs is a bit more telling now. I hope not.

02-01-2009, 11:11 AM
again, sorry for the downer last night...
i'm not totally counting them out yet. hasbro could fully intend to continue with these online releases for a long time still. that would be a great way for us all to see characters that the 'big box' stores wouldn't want to carry. and perhaps hasbro is waiting to wow us at toyfair or sdcc or something, and that's why the news has been lacking lately.
i'm just saying that, for the longevity of the line, the online exclusive route seems dangerous. and a lot of the recent questions (target exclusive wave? transformers wave canceled? why have we not heard of this mugg until is showed up in stores?) make sense when you think about the sad fact that muggs might be done.
that said, i'm still buying them all and supporting the mugg line until it's officially gone. and i have every online exclusive pre-ordered. and i still need destro and baroness.

I really wouldn't count on getting SDCC Iron Man through HasbroToyShop. They rarely come in stock, and it's usually not much at all. My guess is they're the ones that got sent away for AFA grading, but weren't worthy of the 9.0 rating.

They had The Baroness, Destro, and Storm Shadow all at Target. I really dont care to get The Baroness, the only reason I want her is to complete my GI Joe collection. Plus I still am yet to find a good Storm Shadow. Every single one I have found has some very noticeable scratch or marks on them. Plus its very noticeable on the extreme white. I did however pick up Destro and am very happy with him, he looks 10x better than what I was expecting for some reason.
They however had a beyond terrible selection of Marvel and Star Wars MM.

I can say the same thing about my local Targets. The newest Mugg they had was Palpatine of the Star Wars line. :bomb: However, I finally snagged a Jigsaw from my local TRU. They also had a Punisher, but I'd already ordered that from the website a few days back.. -.-

I would say the older SWs Muggs are getting rare ... one's like C3PO & Leia ... but Boba Fett and Vader V1 used to be rare ... until I just recently started seeing them on shelves again (at least both Fetts). Classic iron man used to be rare until he was recently re-released. Venom is still somewhat rare, although people are saying they've seen a re-issue of him as well. In the Indiana Jones line, I firmly believe Henry Jones Sr. is rare, only because I never ever saw one ... the monkey guy is kind of rare too, but not the same degree. None of the Joes are rare ... but Snake Eyes is the hardest to find. The rarest ones are the online exclusives like Short Round, Adm. Ackbar, etc ... only because they weren't sold in stores or at a convention ... That's my take on rare muggs, I'm sure others will add to or refute some of the muggs' rarity I listed ...

thePhildown, I'm from Olympia too. I'm hoping to get a Shock Trooper and a Snow Trooper, but sadly the Targets haven't gotten them. If you ever here of the Targets getting them, you should shoot me a PM. I checkde like twice at both the Olympia and Lacey targets last week. All they ever have are a ton of Plo Koons.
I'll definitely give you a shout if I ever come across the new batch. Anything else you're looking for besides the new Star Wars ones?

the Phildown, I'm only collecting Star Wars. NOt a big fan of the other lines. With Star Wars I'm mainly into Empire and Sith stuff. I'd like to get all the trooper variations (Clone/Storm, etc). I only have Captain Rex, Shadow Storm Trooper, and a Storm Trooper now.

my transformers set just arrived from BBTS... great that we got these muggs, but i'm a big fan of the facial expressions on my figures. for instance, i love the look on storm shadow's face. it's hard to get a good facial expression from a robot. but still, the muggs are solid additions. it's hard to pick a winner or loser in the bunch.

As for doctor doom...I've found three, but not at the same stores. Two in phoenix, and one on the way to Cali. From previous posts mostly Jigsaw and Venom are rare and hard to found. I'm a huge Doctor Doom fan and even gave my son the last find. Its funny a one year old just loves his mighty muggs.

Rarity is somewhat location-dependent. Leia, Yoda, and Venom are fairly universally rare..."exclusives" can be rare, due to the limited number of stores they're released in (only exclusives are Jigsaw and Punisher at Toys R Us, and a bunch at Target...and then there's "online only" waves...).
Also of note - the new Marvel wave is up for pre-order on HasbroToyShop, along with the new GI Joe muggs (Destro and Baroness). Everything has an estimated shipping date of March 9.
Finally, Walmart.com has a lot of muggs on clearance - many for under 8. Shipping for most can be free using site-to-store, or only 97 cents. Might be worth checking out to get extras for customs or to fill some holes in a collection.

I am a poor college student without a credit card. I really want to nab at least Doom and Hulk for those low prices. I have seen Asajj and Dooku at Walmarts here and I doubt I can, but if I find them at the store, I doubt the price will reflect there, but could I have them look up the site and match their own site?
DocRamon
02-03-2009, 07:39 PM
probably not... walmarts don't use a universal pricing system. so the items on clearance vary from store to store. this includes their website. just because a figure is 'on clearance' online, it might (and likely will) be regular price in-store. stores can't adjust prices to match that of their website or even their other local stores. just not how walmart works. it's kinda lame, but target's the same way.
so if you want the clearance prices, you pretty much have to order online.

How would you feel about it if I told you doing a price-scan would have shown him to be only $8.99? They're secretly on sale at Target for at least another week (still no solid confirmation on the end date).
Don't feel obligated to buy any more than the one you love. I've had Iron Man for months and more recently Wolverine, but that's it. I look at all of them every time I'm in the store as well, but I only have my sights set out for a very select few. I agree with the kidrobot Simpsons toys. Only problem is that they're randomized so you don't know what you're buying. Plus, the only place I know that has them sells them for $8 which is the same price as a Mugg and about 1/5 the size.

THIS!
i'm a huge simpsons nut. hell, i'd even pay the $8 for one if it weren't blindboxed. but the combination of high price and blindboxing totally turned me off to these guys. i'm much happier with muggs.
my appeal is the simplicity. more realistic figures have details and articulation... and it all usually comes at the expense of the overall look or low prices. since the muggs are much more stylized and simple, the prices stay (relatively) low and the look is clean, consistent and creative.
i see muggs more as artwork than i do as toys. i'm not building realistic dioramas or anything, i'm displaying abstract representations of the things that i enjoy. plus, as i've said, my intent is to pass the little guys onto my son. muggs are more kid-friendly than your standard star wars figure. maybe not as he gets older, but i'll feel very comfortable handing muggs (sans lightsabers) over to him within a couple years.

the last day of the target temporary price cut is monday 2/9.
I find it unusual they call it a "temporary price cut" and not a "sale". Whatever the case though, I am determined to find Destro and Baroness before the 9th! They've been released on BBTS.com and are shipping now but at 18 a piece, not including shipping, is completely ridiculous. None of the Joes are going to be difficult to find in stores, I've seen floods of all 4 so far and expect to see equal doses of these 2 when stores get more of them in supply.
Maybe it's just my location, but the newer Mugg waves just aren't that difficult to find anymore. Granted, as long as you get them before the next wave comes out. Not to mention they appear to be readily available at Hasbro's site aside from a few hot ones, Revan for example.

Not sure what you're looking for in terms of advice. I see you're in Michigan so my best advice is - stay outta my way!
Check out the Walmart link above, those are some pretty good prices if you can get site-to-store. Target seems to be the best for B&M shopping as far as selection and the temporary price cut. Also try Walmart/Kmart because I'm not sure how many people shop for these there. If you're willing to spend extra $$$ though, Urban Outfitters sells them in store for $20 each which is pretty much double what anyone else does, but they've also got a nice selection.

Magneto is awesome, I was wondering when they'd release him since he's pretty much perfect for might muggs. Ice man does look kinda funky though, wtf is in his hand?
And to answer spamfree2: Biggs isn't rare, if your Targets don't have them then they'll probably restock soon enough, I can pick one up for you, but it'll cost $17 to ship it to you, so it's better to just look around or wait :-P

More X-Men! :whee: Those are pretty cool. The second pick of Iceman is better concerning the snowball. I agree though, he would have been much cooler translucent. And I would have preferred removable helmet for Magneto.
Also, Phoenix's face (http://www.action-figure.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=ImageBank&file=index&id=91024) is painted different than what the stores have shown.

The unmasked spider and magneto look sweet but the iceman is weak. I finally was able to locate punisher and jigsaw but the jigsaw one did not look that interesting to me, but I did purchase punisher. Now to locate destro and baraness. there are lots of characters that need to be made, some (arguably) more important than deadpool. however, that's not the point...
assuming this spider-man is actually released in a standard wave (and doesn't end up being a convention exclusive or something, since it's clearly a movie version of the character) i think it's a really smart idea on hasbro's part. they know that core characters like this are essential to keep a line going, because that's what makes casuals buy figures and retailers order cases. BUT, instead of just re-releasing the old spider-man mugg and having it sit on shelves because collectors already have it, this mugg will actually sell. to a very wide audience.
i'm just saying... i've heard a lot of frustrated collectors complaining about the number of spider-man muggs, but honestly... muggs like this could be what keeps the line going, so that we see more fan favorites down the road.

C-3PO, Commander Cody, and Captain Rex were re-released as Target exclusives and are identical to the old ones besides the target stickers on the front. The others were first releases and exclusive to Target. I wouldn't be surprised if they were only initially Target exclusives and they ended up everywhere sooner or later, but that all depends on how Hasbro wanted to do it. They have plenty of other toys that are released only in certain stores and stay that way I think.
And about HasbroToyShop.com - I'm pretty sure they don't charge until they ship. I ordered a Human Torch and Venom when they had Venoms in stock and they shipped them separately and only charged for each one when they shipped.

Nope, there's no difference. I got a Wolverine late in the game, so it must be a wave 4, but it still only has spidey, venom, and iron man on the back of the box. I'm pretty sure the only way you could possibly tell that a figure is from the original or re-released waves is to know what numbers stamped in the bottom of the box correspond to which wave. I think those are the lot numbers, but somebody can correct me if I'm wrong.

The Star Wars and Marvel Muggs had shelf tags of $12.06! (Joe's were still tagged at $10.99)
They still scanned today at $8.99 but if this is the future of Muggs pricing....
I had never been in this Target before so maybe retail prices are higher here?

that's not necessarily true. try going back tomorrow and seeing if teebo's on the shelf. a lot of targets only put so many figures out on the shelf at one time. when they hit that limit, even if it's in the middle of a case, they save the rest in the back until something sells. then, when they restock the shelves, they finish unloading the case. of course, some stores don't follow this rule, but i think that's what they're supposed to do, based on my conversations with target employees during mugg hunts.
they could have gotten a case, put out snowtrooper, shock trooper and bossk, but then hit their figure limit and stashed the rest in the back. now that you've bought some, they might put out biggs and teebo and one of the re-releases or something.

You might be right, but for my store, they tend to stick everything out there. I saw Cody and Rex out there, which come in the same shipment with Teebo and C-3PO. The last two weren't there, which makes me think they put everything out there and the ones missing were snatched up.

I don't think there is a street date for TF MMs, *BUT* Hasbro might not ship it to B&M retailers until they ship figures from the new TF movie, which WILL have a street date. So some retailers might hold off stocking them until they put out TF2 movie figures.

nope a company policy now states it. since they are deemed "collectible" they are not allowed to go outback until the shelf needs to be re-stocked. there are little signs in the toy section. i agree with you linkin, they are losing money. i had a conversation with a few people yesterday when i went and they agreed, but since it was policy they really couldnt do anything. at least rotate them but that would mean floating muggs out back as opposed to sealed boxes they can toss around.

That sucks. I haven't noticed those signs either but I have a newer Target in my area and they usually go the extra mile for their customers (for the time being, I guess). I'll ask them to check the stockroom the next time I'm there.
Finally, a trip to TRU is actually worth it. I picked up The Punisher, Jigsaw and Snake Eyes earlier today.

I found a Galactus today at my local target that wasn't there. It looks like they are being filled in here and there no big restocks. Is Captain America getting rare because I can't seem to find him either.

Just a quick "CAG-Back" (Giving back to the community sort of thing). I know this isn't a trade thread, but I'm trying to do a good deed, so I figured it could get overlooked? I'll delete if anybody has a problem with this here.
It looked like my TRU had just put out two cases of the Punishers/Jigsaws today, so I grabbed two of each for you guys. If anybody wants a pair or the 4 of them for the cost (10.99 ea) and whatever the shipping is (Not looking for profit), pm me. I'd rather not split them up individually just yet, but if you just want one, PM me and I'll let you know if nobody wants the sets.
ETA: Both sets are spoken for at this point, but still feel free to let me know, and I will PM back if anyone changes their mind. Sounds like they're going to good homes.

On Hasbro.com there are coming soon signs on Hoth Luke, Old Ben, Scout trooper, and Gamorian Guard. According to Mightymuggslounge it seems to be hasbro.com only. Guard and Scout look pretty cool

Damn.
I have a The Empire Strikes Back theme going on on top of my media shelf. The Hoth Luke will fit in nicely.

they're not hasbro exclusive, they're online exclusive... it's the same wave that entertainment earth has said they'll start selling on 2/25 and bbts (and others) will likely have around that time as well.

Ben Kenobi and the Scout Trooper look awesome but the Gamorrean guard looks too thin. I'm not sure that there's anything they could've done about that but it just looks "off" (in my opinion).

if anyine is looking for a specific mugg let me know, I usually hit up my target about 2 times a week and they have a pretty good selection:D

I want them all. Hoth Luke will go well the the Wompa, and I would love to have my original single faced Vader fighting Old Ben!
I can not wait for this wave.

I was at my local Toys R Us last night and picked up 2 Punishers. I have never traded anything on CAG before so I am not sure I am quite ready yet but my intention is to trade one away eventually.
I was at Meijer and they had Iron Man, Wolverine and 2 Things. Nothing amazing about the selection but I have never seen the boxes for these things pristine before.

I just picked up a Cairo Swordsman yesterday at Walmart for 3 bucks on clearance. I was wondering, for customizing, what kind of paint is it best to use, both as a base coat and for detailing.
EDIT - NM, found a good tutorial here...

stopped by a TRU this afternoon... found PLENTY of all 4 transformers, 2 jigsaws and 6 punishers. have them all already, but figured i'd report back in case someone needs a little help.
with all the stuff being released/announced recently, i'm starting to lose track of all my orders! i've got baroness and destro coming from tru.com (was coming from hasbro, but tru got them in stock first, so yeah), starscream and grimlock coming from hasbro, the next wave of star wars coming from bbts, the next marvel wave coming from bbts... and we've still seen another (target exclusive) wave of marvel, another star wars wave, 2 possibly canceled transformers and serpentor.
wow.
