My DS Lite is kinda Fucked up. My DS had started to shut itself off randomly while I was playing games. It would usually do it 45mins-1hr in, and for no specific reason. I know I wasn't sliding the power button because my hand was nowhere near it at the time. Now, for some reason, the idea to turn the brightness down occured to me. It was originally on 3, which is what I always played on, and I turned it down to 2. Since then, it has not shut off at all. I have played it for about 6 hours, and it's been good so far. The battery is ok, I know that for sure. I even bought a new one and it still turned off. But, for whatever reason, turning down the brightness seems to have saved it.

Since I had thought my DS was completely broken, I figured on selling it. Now, though, I don't really know what to do. The only games I'm really looking forward to are Chrono Trigger DS and the new Fire Emblem. Both of those I could play on my brothers DS if I wanted to... I could get quite a bit of credit at GS for my games using the 30% extra trade in value, so it is really tempting to do. I could use some help on this though.

Have you tried playing it while it's plugged in? Try it at full brightness plugged in, if it doesn't shut off, you might just need a new battery.

you could sell it broken, or just call nintendo and ask them to fix it.

I would imagine getting it repaired would be less than buying a new one? Does the DS have an auto-switch if it overheats? (Doubtful but a possibility)

The only way it can heat up is by charging it like any other portable system. But anyway either your battery is dying or the contact where your battery touchs is dirty.
