Wireless all the way, but do not get the white one, get the Halo Green Wireless headset, they are proven to be more reliable (I went through two white wireless headsets in 5 months, my Halo headset is still going strong after 9 months)

I've had that problem and sometimes I think it's the controller.

I have gone through three headsets, and the Microsoft wireless model is, by far and away, the best. The Microsoft wired headset doesn't fit and the volume isn't loud enough. Next, I bought a Plantronics ear-set, which is better than the Microsoft model, but very uncomfortable. Earlier this year, I found out in the Deals forum that Toys R' Us had put the Microsoft wireless model on sale and snagged one. Again, it's porridge that's just right.

I'm personally not a fan of the plantronics wired set. The placement of the mute is awkward (I like having it within a thumb's reach, not hanging on the cord), and I've personally had issues with its volume being very quiet-- I'm not a super quiet speaker but several times it didn't even detect my voice, meaning my friends started wondering why I was refusing to answer them. Whoops.

I like the original one. After having a 360 for 2 years, I have only gone through one. Not to mention the mute switch is placed in the best place.

I've used the official wireless headset since the month it came out. Works perfectly.

i think that you should just get a wired head set. the quality iss the same and mine has never broke and ive had it for seven months.

The quality isn't even close to the same official wireless compared to official wired.

the wired ones do seem to break quickly (went through 3 the first year alone) but my last one has lasted since late 06 or so... the newer wired ones are definitely better then the first release ones (they are made SLIGHTLY different, the old ones have a bulbusy thing on the wire near the volume control)... with that said i would either get the messenger kit headset as it is designed like other headsets with the volume control on the wire, or i'd go with a halo headset or 2nd gen white wireless (make sure it comes with a usb cable and NOT an ac adapter for charging as those fail a lot easier)... i also had the plantronics headset and it still works fine and definitely the volume is louder and clearer BUT as someone else said it is very uncomfortable

I've broken 2 within the last year. The mute buttons broke due to turning it on and off. Plus there was a problem were sometimes it would shut off and prompt me to "re-connect the controller".
I bought an AT&T headset. Any 2.5mm cell phone version will work but it needs to have a with a volume control & mute built in.
