Definition for bootleg here is:
Authentic, but not legal for your sales market region.
Pirated goods, cd-r, dvd-r.
Think eBay, auctions and "I lost my originals but heres my backups"
Definition for Authentic here is:
Factory shipped specially for you sales market region.
Think stuff bought at major retail chains.
Keep in mind this poll includes USED Games/DVD and NEW Games/DVD.

i'd love to hear your reasons for choosing "If new, i want authentic, if used i dont care" because thats similar to my mind set.

oviously us at CAG don't tolerate bootlegs, but i regonize most of us wait for new relases to drop in price, but that actually does not help production of games (it encourge buggy games like matrix reloaded to pop out games because of hype though.) nintendo recently announced that GC games can be purchased over a new media, only in china. which cost around 10 dollar US per official game release due to piracy, PS2 and Xbox sales have been way low also. Nintendo is hoping to bring up sales by this attempt. makes me wonder is the an victory or a big big lost considering it stunts the growth of quality games

I always buy authentic games, no bootlegs for me! Most of my dvd collection is authentic, with just a sprinkling of HK anime (overpriced titles).
Maybe that'll spark some dialogue.

i have a few bootleg DC games, most imported type games (And ikaruga, but now i have the GC version).
My girlfriend likes an Anime called Fushigi Yugi. the american releases aer $150 a pop for each of the 2 seasons. Bought the first season for $50 region free, with english dialouge. Had my first screw up when i bought season 2 and it was a complete boot, including PERMANENT chinese subtitles and shitty video. I rebought it from the guy i bought season 1 from for $30, and it was perfect.
Other wise i have Around 100 completely official video games, somewhere over 200 real dvd's, and around 500 cd's...all original copies. (i do have 2 burened cd's...Justin Timberlake and Lewis Black. Yeah those two guys go together...)

Great anime, by the way. I did the same. I wanted the R1's (the sets themselves are beautiful) but they're just too expensive. $150 for 26 episodes, times two seasons. $300? Nah. Spent about $80 total for the 2 seasons and the OVAs. The quality is perfectly fine.

For whatever reason, I can't quite justify paying over 200 dollars for the Gundam W series.

Umm.. there's patches for Windows regardless if you bought it or not. Plus what OS do you use rimsforsale that never has had any problems whatsoever.
Oh yeah what was this about again. I never bought pirated goods however I have received them as gifts. I like shiny boxes so I prefer to buy retail games when they drop to a certain price.

I don't buy bootleg games or dvds, but it's as much a quality issue as an anti-piracy one. With authentic ones, they're pretty much guaranteed to work right, and if they don't, you can usually return them for a refund.
