Im only missing a few RPGs from my PS2 collection and starting to debate which ones to pick up. Any of you ever play either of these two and what are your thoughts?

Grim Grimoire is not an RPG. It's an RTS. Personally, I don't think those kind of games work well on a console, and Grim Grimoire is no exception. I love some good PC RTS'ing, though.

Magna Carta is terrible, but you should go ahead and give it a try if you've got the time. There are actually some people who liked it.

Grim Grimoire is not an RPG. It's an RTS. I'm not a big fan of RTSes, but I loved this one. You can pause the action at any time to look around and give orders. Fun story and beautiful art.

Never played Magna Carta.

GrimGrimoire is a fun strategy game but as stated would work better on a PC (and it's not an RPG). It's nothing you haven't seen on the PC before (and better) with Starcraft, etc. The controls are pretty solid and there are a bunch of side missions in addition to the main story.

The plot is not horrible but it really plagiarizes Harry Potter, if you care about that sort of thing.

I have Magna Carta. Damn pretty box art dragging me in. While I haven't gotten around to playing it, my roomate did for a while (the pretty box art dragged her in too). Her thoughts--very nice graphic in the game, storyline isn't too bad.....but the battle system is highly annoying, controlling one character at a time. I'll let someone else explain the "chi" drawing system since I can't really remember it well. Plus to not be "surprised" by the enemy you have to run around with your sword out, which of course makes you walk at about 50% normal speed. Oh, and load times are pretty bad too. All and all she ended up stopping after about 25 hours saying she couldn't take it anymore. lol. I still plan on playing it someday soon as I slowly chip away at my backlog....but I'm a glutton for punishment as long as there is a decent story involved.

Grim Grimoire I'm actually wondering about myself. Keep seeing a couple of new copies at a local store, but always wondered what others thought about it.

Shortly after making the post my neighbor came over and he said he had the game. I havnt even played that long and quit. The battle system is annoying, I cant tell if the characters are girls or boys till they talk and the voice acting is the worst iv ever heard.

Yep, I bought that game for pretty box art but I played 25 minutes and couldn't stand the battle system. I don't want to control one character at a time. I sold it like a week later.

Thanks for letting me know to stay far far away from both games.

I couldn't stand GrimGrimoire. The PS2 was not the correct system. The storyline was interesting and the art was great, but it was too easy to abuse and in some cases too difficult to keep track of what was going on.

Like many other RTS games, I suppose.

Well, just to add a differing opinion, I liked Grim Grimoire a lot. I have bought a ton of PS2 RPGs and RPG-like games (yes, this is not an RPG) but haven't gotten around to playing many of them. But I enjoyed playing through the Grim Grimoire story and several of the side missions. I didn't do all of the side missions by any means, but I was glad I played what I played (and did complete it).

As for Magna Carta, I had bought that a long while ago during an EB Games Buy 2 Get 1 free sale. After reading up on it a bit, I decided to dump it on eBay back when it commanded a decent price - got about what I paid for it before the B2G1 so that was a good choice. It would have been WAY down on my list of RPGs to play so I don't regret it. It would be nice to have for my RPG collection, but I sort of limit that to games I want to play (even if I never get around to them - heck, haven't even played FF X or FF XII yet!).
