Last night my TV started crapping out on me. The screen flickers and goes in and out. It's a really old TV (10+ years, probably) and I was planning on upgrading to an HDTV, but that's not in the cards for few more months.

So, in order to not go insane from not being able to play games for a couple months, I want a really cheap way to hook up my PS2 and such to a computer monitor or my laptop.

I would prefer to be able to hook it up through an older monitor I have rather than the laptop. Both have the standard VGA connector. The monitor has speakers built in with a separate line-in for those. My laptop also has an additional connector that I can't remember what it is. It's yellow, and has 3 pins over 5 pins.

If you monitor has an in-line connector that connects to speakers, than you need one of these http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=666&seq=1&format=2 to get the system's sound coming out of the speakers on the monitors

Most laptops will only have video out connections and never in connections, so you probably won't be able to game on a laptop unless you buy something else.

I also have one of these http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/support/Video/prod/AVC-1400/ This thing let me play my ps2 or anything that has the Red, White, and Yellow connectors on my old laptop. You might have to get something like this to be able to play on a monitor unless your monitor has the proper connections for it.

I found this http://www.universalpart.com/product.aspx?ProductIDX=4970 and decided to give it a whirl in addition to the speaker cable you suggested. No big deal if it doesn't work since they're both cheap.

That should work. Also, if you want the best possible connection with that plug, s-video is the way to go.

Hope this all works for ya

That won't work. Thats for VGA to Composite, not the other way around. Composite video signals don't contain as much data as a VGA signal. So, in order to send a composite signal to a VGA monitor, the composite signal has to be broken down and rebuilt to contain enough data. This can't be achieved simply through a cable. You're going to need a converter box as mentioned earlier.

You could try something like this: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-de-77-6-49-en-15-vga-70-2sob.html

I haven't used that one, but I had Redant VGA converter boxes for both my PS2 and GameCube that were unfortunately bought from lik-sang, and seem to be out of stock everywhere else. In order to be able to play on your monitor, you are going to have to probably spend at least $30-40 just on the converter.

I'm not worried about it enough to spend $50 to get this to work when I'm going to be buying a new TV in 2-3 months (I guess I'll just have to buy it before the PS3 instead of the other way around like I was hoping). I still think the cable I bought will work, the plugs just seem backwards to convert the other way. Even if it doesn't, no big deal since the TV is still mostly working.
Thanks anyway.
