The contents of My Pictures (inside My Documents) no longer show up in Desktop Properties > Desktop tab. WTF? Anyone know how to fix this?

I have never encountered one problem that those two sites wouldn't solve.

Neither have I. So I'm looking again, been looking for a good ten minutes now, can't seem to find the answers yet. Lots of people asking for the problem I have, but its the other way around.. they don't want their pics showing up in the desktop tab.
Ugh.

Could you clarify what you mean by Desktop Properties? I assume you're in XP.

Do you mean Display Properties? Words matter.
If so, just use the browse button to get to the appropriate driectory if it isn't the default.

My bad. Display Properties, Desktop tab, and that fucking list with wallpaper in it. I've read a billion newsgroups threads by now that tell me which directories show up in that list, but nothing telling me why the fuck one of them doesnt show up anymore.
And epobirs you just don't understand. I don't want to fucking click that god damn button every time I want to set my wallpaper. I want to have everything I've got in My Pictures to show up in that list. That's the way it has always been, and now it doesn't work any more.

Always? Which version of Windows are you using? I don't ever remember such a feature and I've used every iteration since 95.

XP Pro. The content of the My Pictures directory (C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Pictures) has ALWAYS been in the list.
A simple fix that I just noticed would to be hit browse then go to your my pictures folder and make sure it's view>thumbnails and pick something from the folder. As long as you don't pick a file from a different folder to be your wallpaper later on it should stay in your my pictures folder when you click on browse and you'll see the thumbnails. It may not be what you want exactly, but it seems like it will be the same functionality as what you're used to.

Except I'm clicking the browse button now, huh? That's NOT what I want... I want the contents of My Pictures to show in the list, just like it has been for years.

Jeeze, how often do you change wallpaper?
Obviously something chewed on your registry. That is where all such settings reside. There are numerous tools to use to tweak those settings or if you feel brave you can do it in regedit. The problem I'm having is locating the default setting that creates the effect in the first place.
Alternately, you can copy the pictures you want for wallpaper to C:\WINNT\Web\Wallpaper

Oh, well if you want the contents of my pictures to be in there it's I believe it's regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion. It's under the setting "WallPaperDir." Modify it to your my pictures path and you should be good to go.

Thanks, but that really wasnt the cause of the problem in the first place. If I were to mod that regkey, the entire system would point to *my* My Pictures... and we don't want that.

So I decided to try that... and you're right. I guess I was a bit too lazy, too. Oh well. Too bad Microsoft doesn't have a page on their knowledge base about this. would have saved me some time, and some of youse guyses time as well.
