I went supermarket shopping today and there was a section with all kinds of Hummus. I don't anything about it except its mid-eastern. I'm a cunlinary newbie so I was curious

Can someone tell me what this is? Can it be used as a sandwich spread? Is it used for dipping something?

Thanks in advance.

Weird, I just got done watching the episode of friends where phoebe spills hummice on her dress. Idk what it is either, and I'd like to know.

Chick Peas (a/k/a Garbanzo Beans)
Tahini (think Peanut Butter, with almonds instead of peanuts - somewhat bitter in flavor)
Garlic (Roasted, preferrably)
Olive Oil
Spices (paprika, salt, white pepper, cayenne pepper are all safe bets)
Additional (not necessary) ingredients can include roasted peppers, more garlic, etc.

I enjoy hummus with a bit o' brown mustard and swiss cheese on wheat bread.

It's, understandably, not for everybody.

myke.

It's one of those foods that can be used in different ways, you can eat it straight or put it on sandwiches or hot or cold or whatever, it all depends on how badly you want to eat it and which ways it tastes best to you.

Hummous is amazing. Traditionally you put a little olive oil on it and dip warm pita bread with it. The store bought stuff is not too good, you have to make it yourself or have one of your arab friends make it fresh. This is coming from a Palestinian here.

hummus- sounds like something the captain of a high school football team might say when asking a slutty cheerleader to give the team blowjobs

Hummus is one of the best things out there. This comment comes from an Israeli here.

That's how they serve it at a vegetarian resturant I go to. Good shit.

Anyone in the suburbs of, or in the city of Detroit will get a severe trashing from me if they talk down Hummous before actually going to La Shish (except the Roseville one... they kind of suck).
