Has anyone or does anyone know if this can work on a DS purchase?

I have bad credit so it might be rejecting me cuz of that. Or it is it Video GAMES no Video Games Systems.

The wording is kinda vague, seems like a DS for $130 would qualify for teh $20 off offer. " Video game products qualify for the offer "

And

Just a note to folks concerned about their credit score, this does affect your credit rating, as it does a credit check and if they approve you, it opens a line of credit. Both of those factors can impact your credit.

To an extent, absolutely. And yes yes yes on paying bills full and on time!

But when you go to buy a house or a car or some other big purchase and they check your credit, having a ton of open lines of credit does affect your rating, and what will be the interest rate they offer you. Not trying to start a credit discussion, I just wanted to throw an FYI out there. There's a lot of young folks here who don't pay much attention to their credit ratings or know that such deals as this can impact them later in life.

Yes, if you are young and do not have significant credit established please make sure you understand all the details of this offer and how it can impact your credit score if you do not pay on time. That said, this is a good opportunity to start a solid credit history if you are younger and just starting out using credit. Just make sure you pay off your entire bill before the due date. Also don't

That said, in for a Lancer bundle, Fable II & Too Human. The fact that this can be used multiple times is awesome.

Here's a tip for those having trouble getting this to work. When you go to the "Select Payment Type" screen to select BML, don't enter the promo code on that screen. Just choose BML, enter the required info, and then click Continue to move on to the Order summary screen. On the Order Summary screen, enter the promo code in the blank on the right side of the screen. Worked like a charm. Used it to get the Pokemon DS Lite.

For some reason, whenever I entered the code on the Select Payment Type screen, I received a "This promotion cannot be applied to this order" message. So I just chose BML, clicked Continue, and entered the code on the Order Summary screen. Viola! It worked!

Give it a shot if you're having trouble.

Very cool deal. Canceled my original Gears 2/Lancer bundle and re-ordered using my bill me later account to save the extra $20. Thanks OP!

For those wondering about the bill me later service. I really think it is worth it as long as you pay it off as soon as you get the bill. The potential hit to your credit score is minimal, or likely nothing unless you have a weak score or have maxed out your other lines of credit already, and offers like this $10 or $20 savings while using bill me later pop up several times a year.

How do you use this multiple times? It says limit of one usage per account. Unless you're using more than two Amazon accounts?

No just my main account. I preordered Fable II and used the code at checkout. After that I put in my pre-order for Gears/Lancer and the code was already showing up when I went to the checkout screen, just hit update/apply button and the amount showing changed from the $10 (Fable II under $100) to $20 since the GoW bundle is over $100 and qualified for the higher discount. Completed that and Too Human rang up $10 off too.

Also for those worried about their credit, having one or two open lines that are current and never late actually imporve your credit score. It is much better to have open lines of credit that are paid off and always current as opposed to going to buy a house or car and never having any type of credit history. Just don't go overboard with 20+ credit cards and a spotty history of paying on time and your credit should be good. Also check your credit every year with the Free government credit report you can get here:

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/

That is the free site you should use for credit reports.

I have a few questions about this. Sorry if they're a bit noobish, as I've never really had any credit before.

Say I use this promo once, pay the bill on time, never use Bill Pay again and keep the line of credit open. What happens? Do I still get charged a fee for leaving the line of credit open? Or does it just sit there, stealthily improving my credit score by virtue of staying open?

Say I use this promo once, pay the bill on time, never use Bill Pay again and keep the line of credit open. What happens? Do I still get charged a fee for leaving the line of credit open or does it just kind of sit there in limbo? Or does it just sit there, stealthily improving my credit score by virtue of staying open?IME there's no fees or any other hassles associated with just leaving it active with a zero balance.

As for your credit, having an unused open line can help or harm you depending on other circumstances. For example, one factor in the FICO score calculation is the ratio of your total outstanding balance to your total credit limit. If you do carry a balance, closing a credit line will raise this ratio and might actually hurt your score. However, closing a line can help you if you have a lot of lines open and an excessive credit limit.

Bottom line is that FICO score isn't just a checklist of things you can either do correctly or incorrectly. There are pros and cons to most things you can do, and a lot depends on your personal circumstances.

BML is an open account loan, but without the credit cards.

Fees like standard credit cards apply.

I've used mine off and on... it doesn't close but it really isn't a line of credit but it individually assigns a top value.

I tried to make an order for a video card, about $250 and it denied it at Newegg.

I think it acts like bank loan, since there is a bank behind it, HSC or Chase, can't remember... But it performs as a credit card repayment plan with fees and what have you.

I've always payed mine in full the first month they send me the bill... kinda nice that way...

But I wonder what will happen on the preorders.... if they will bill me now, or bill me later

This is completely ridiculous.

First of all, you can still "apply" for a mortgage whether or not you have good credit. It's the matter of getting the mortgage that is the issue, and BML is not going to have a huge impact on you getting another line of credit--especially if you pay the thing off immediately and never use it again.

I seriuosly hope this was a joke and you just forgot to put a :D at the end.

People act like Bill Me Later is like taking out a $500,000 mortgage. It's a little $50-$100 line of credit - not a big deal at all. However if you cannot afford to pay of a $50-$100 line of credit, you probably should not be buying video games.

Guess I'll pass then, because I want to apply for a mortgage in five-seven years when I decide to get a house.

I think we have let a little bit too much paranoia take over this thread. If you use the Bill Me Later feature on Amazon or any other line of credit responsibly you will not have any problems with your credit in the future. By Responsibly I mean:

1. Pay your balance off in full prior to the due date.
2. Don't overdraw your credit limit on the card/account
3. Monitor your credit every year using the governments free credit report that I posted a couple pages back
4. Don't go overboard with credit cards, etc. It is fine to have 3 or 4 (or more) open accounts as long as you use them responsibly (see #1 & 2).

At some point you will need to have a credit history for some type of large loan (car/mortgage), so establishing good credit now is always a good idea. Look at it from the lenders point of view. Would you rather lend money to someone who has never borrowed anything in the past and has no quality references that will vouch for them or would you lend to someone who has a clean credit history that shows 3 or 4 accounts that are drawn against frequently but always paid in full on time? :-k

I can just imagine the scene... *harp sound*

The year is 2015. You and your wife are smiling as you sign the mortgage papers. The loan officer shakes your hand, hands you a bottle of champagne, and says, "Congratulations! You're now a homeowner!"

But wait... his smile suddenly drops as he notices a single line on a piece of paper on his desk. "Hold on a minute, I may have missed something on your credit report," he says tentatively, his brow furrowing... "Did you make a $50 purchase back in 2008 using a service called 'Bill Me Later'?"

"Yes, but I paid that bill years ago," you stammer.

"Oh, I'm truly sorry, but there's been a terrible mistake. We can't accept any borrowers who have used Bill Me Later. It's against our policy."

"But... I've never been late on a bill! I've kept ahead on my student loans and never carried a balance on my credit cards. How can this happen?"

"Sorry, that's just the way it is. This transaction will be a permanent stain on your credit rating for all time. There is no escape. You will never own a home." *yanks back champagne bottle*

:) Seriously, great post GLOCKGLOCK.

What do you mean by approving credit? You mean like a limit?

They are not just going to ship you a game in the hopes that you pay them later. They will determine your credit worthiness based on your financial history and earnings just like they would for a credit card. If youhave good credit they'll extend an offer, if not you will get rejected.

hey so is this bill me later thing a pain in the ass? do you have to sign up for it and set up an account? or is it the same as a regular order but they just literaly send you a bill later and you pay it like normal?

which makes me wonder if so, how amazon benefits from doing that.

Cool, thanks for posting that, gonna send in for a price match.I'm guessing that this was a Quick Pick discount: 5% discounts that are offered to specific customers based on their personal recommendations. You can't get the discount or price match for it unless it was offered to you personally.

Simple, more people buy stuffs with "future" money. The mentality is that, you can't afford it now, but you can with the next paycheck :)

No it takes 30 seconds to sign up. You just enter the last 4 digits of your SSN, your name and address. The company Bill Me Later pays amazon for you and they bill you for it. It is just like opening a credit card. Bill me later will send you a bill, you pay it on time and you never have to use them again.

Amazon benefits by accepting another form of payment. Bill Me Later is the company who actually is providing the $10/$20 discounts. I'm sure they are trying to get more customers, so offering sweet discounts at the largest online retailer is a good strategy.

Yea, you might be right that you aren't supposed to get it unless it was in your personal gold box, but when I ordered RB bundle last year it showed up in other people's gold boxes and I sent in for the PM and they gave it to me. So I figure it it worth a try. What is the worst thing they can do, tell me no? The email took 30 seconds to write so I figured it was a good investment!

Thanks, but I was looking for cheaper fillers, I know I'm cheap, but that's why I'm on CAG.
These companies tick me off sometimes, they know that the items will come in a couple of cents under the minimum to get free shipping or $10 off or whatever.

In for:
- The Shield Season 6
- It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 3
- The Office Season 4
- Hellboy :br:

Came to roughly $102 after discount and tax. Unfortunately with me being cheap I chose to ship them when they all became available so I am looking at a Sept. 15 ship date :(

Wanted to get Shield Season 6 as soon as possible with the new season starting first week of September, but with college and a new dorm I can wait. ;)

Viola! It worked!

Give it a shot if you're having trouble."

Some info for people with the same problem as me:

I tried using the method above, and I could not stack Super Saver shipping with it because I was selecting the free shipping method BEFORE inputting the promo code. I had to follow the method above, and then I could select Super Saver shipping without being blocked by Amazon's checkout.

I picked up Eye of Judgement Camera Bundle, Hot PXL PSP and RE4 Wii for $49.97. I also considered Indianapolis 500 ($20) and DBZ BT3 Wii ($24), but I thought RE4 Wii was a more solid choice. My other option was MGS:Essentials for PS2 and EoJ for PS3, but I already own all of the MGS games, so it's a bit redundant.

Btw, my Soul Calibur IV CE for $39.99 shipped like 12 days ago, and I have not received it yet. That free shipping really is slow as a snail, but I'm a cheap bastard :)

I'm sure it is possible if you are not careful with your information, but it is probably more secure than using a real credit card. If you are worried just use it to get the promo and then pay off the bill immediately. Just be careful with your personal info like you would anything else, but since you probably will not get a physical credit card from this it will all be electronic so use the standard safeguards you would use when buying something online.

Personally I have not been billed for anything yet since all my items were Pre-orders, but a couple people have posted on here that they have done this without any issues.

It's hard to ship anything also since billing needs to match shipping. The site can't get the entire SSN, and all it has is your BD.

So, if anything is "different" they immediately reject the order.

I had to submit paperwork to show that I changed my name.

It's very secure since if I change my address, they will likely want to confirm it. And I do have an account online.

I don't know though if closing one then rejects you for opening a new one in the future.

I've used mine about 6 times with only once having issues... and that was because of my name change, which was painless to fix.

Just made my pre-order for Rock Band 2, total comes to $160 after my Gold Box Quick Picks discount.

I want to pay this off immediately when it ships, will I be safe if I pay it as soon as I receive my paper statement...or should I register with BML online and make an online payment?
I've only paid by a paper statement once in my life (I usually do everything online), and it was bullshit because even though I paid right away, they still charged me interest for about 2 bucks the following month...$2 isn't a big deal, but it was ridiculous I had to mail a check for that amount even though I sent the first check right after I got my statement.
