VOM Trades.
Trade 3 select PS2/Xbox/GC games and recieve $30 towards pre-purchase of Halo 2, Limitend Halo 2 or Forza.

One per customer. Boxes and instructions required. While supplies last. Not Valid on previous purchases. No Substitutions. No Rainchecks. 8/2-10/2

AND

The more you Trade, the more you're Paid
Trade 3 games in and recieve a extra $10 to total
Trade 4 games in and recieve a extra $15 to total
Trade 5 games in and recieve a extra $20 to total.

No Exclusions! No same titles. Must purchase something, no credit or cash will be given.

Normally I'd say the "more you trade, more you're paid" deal isn't the best....BUT it does say in little print that theres NO exceptions. So here's the perfect chance to get rid of some of those crappy POX titles or old sports titles that are taking up space.

Try again. The 'no cash or credit' is for those doing the trade in deal. It's there so you can't trade in 5 cruddy games and walk out with an extra Andrew Jackson.

You can still trade in normally.

I liked them more when it was trade in 5 games, and get 25 extra and you can keep the credit for next time and it included GBA games. Oh well.

Can you combine the deals to trade in 3 games for 30, then get an extra 10?

I'm thinking about picking up MLB 2k4 PS2 from Circuit City along with Outlaw Volleyball and another title to trade in.

I'm assuming even for the "The more you Trade, the more you're Paid" deal, you can only trade PS2, XBox, GCN games for the amount of cash. Am I correct or we can trade in other games for other systems as well for cash(credit)?

are those regular gameboy games? (like the ones for the B&W system)
If so those generally trade in for more than just $1..I had some the other day that traded in for about 4 to 5 dollars each. Some even more..Ninja Gaiden and Pac-Attack traded in for about 7..you might want to just go up there and see what they'll give you...

I had pre-ordered Halo 2 Limited Edition at EBGames already. Does this "not valid on previous purchases" thing mean that I can't trade in 3 games and get $30 to go towards my pre-order?

most likely... but you can always cancel that preorder, take your money back...THEN do the trade in deal

I just got back from there and you can use the trade 5 games deal towards a pre-order.

I played all the games I traded in until I got tired of them (some 5 minutes, some 1 hour). Here is what I traded in:

Nascar Thunder 2002- Bought for $5- Decent
Kelly Slater Pro Surfer- Bought for $5- Crap
Universal Studios- Bought for $5- Horrible

Those 3 were not excluded so I traded them for $30 towards Forza, which I will go back in a week to switch to Metroid Prime 2.

Credit: $30
Total Spent: $15
Profit: $15

Minority Report- Bought for $5- Crap
Swing Away Golf- Bought for $2- Crap
Fantavision- Bought for $5- Good at first, crap later
Wave Rally- Bought for $5- Crap
NCAA Gamebreaker 2004- Bought for $5- Decent, but have better football games

These 5 were all excluded so I had to do the trade 5 games, get $20 deal and pre-ordered Paper Mario 2.

Credit: $24
Total Spent: $22
Profit: $2 But at least I got to play these games a little and this will be the most I would probably ever get for them.

Total Credit: $54
Total Spent: $37
Total Profit: $17

So I got to get rid of a bunch of crappy games I would never play again and made a few extra dollars doing it. Plus I won't have to pay the full $50 for the two games I pre-ordered.

Confirmed. But you have to buy something in stock or buy something for 99 cents and then you can preorder.

I went and got two 2.99 games from gamestop to add to my 3 games I wanted to get rid of and got 23 bucks credit toward Sims 2 DVD.

Something tells me to wait another few months until Halo 2 is closer. There are another strong 2 months until November even arrives so I'm counting on some other kind of deal to come along much like this one. Hopefully it will be just as good if not better than this...such as the "trade in 5 games get Madden 2005 free" These offers come around about once a month so chances are if I pass on this another trade-in deal will come around?. Agree or disagree?

Anyway, it paid for all of the following:

Star Wars Battlefront (PC)
Pikmin 2
Fable
Half Life 2: CE
NHL 2K5 (Xbox)
Guilty Gear X2: Reload
Gungrave: Overdose
Mortal Kombat: Deception Kollector's Edition (Xbox)

Is this for every EB games, and how long does it go on for?

Arkay Firestar
08-30-2004, 01:00 PM
I don't think its for all ebgames stores, at least, not all of them are aware of it.

For instance, the first one I called was not even aware of the promotion. The next one I called knew about it but said that there were exceptions. The third store I called pretty much said what was in this post, that there were no exceptions. So I got the guy's name and how long his shift was, and I got to work.

I went to my local Gamestop and bought Madden 2001 and NCAA Shootout 2001 for 6 bucks total. I already had NFL 2k3 (GC), Madden 2002 (GC), and Eternal Darkness, which is a great game, granted, but its not my genre...luckily I got it for 12 bucks so it was the smallest of my concerns.

So I traded those five games, even though they only gave me a couple of bucks for the games, I ended up with 22 bucks store credit. Now this guy, contrary to what someone posted in these forums, said you had to buy something INSTOCK or else it wouldnt work...something about trade-in credit being different than store credit.

So I asked him what the cheapest thing was, and he said a used N64 rumble pack for 99 cents. I said fine, and ended up with 21 credit. I put it on The Sims 2, and now I only have 32 bucks left to pay including tax, so I'm a happy man.

So my profit was:
Madden 2001 (2.99)
+
NCAA Shootout (2.99)
+
Three games I was happy to get rid of and were worth nothing to me (0.00)
-
21.00 or so dollars of store credit
=
15.00 profit (thereabouts)

Good luck if you can get this to work, although if you have more valuable games than I did, you'll make much more money off of this...but I don't mind...the only relatively expensive game in the group was Eternal Darkness.

(PS...I just realized, I should have sold Eternal Darkness to my Gamestop and bought another 2.99 game. Why? Because Gamestop was going to give me 5 dollars for Eternal Darkness  , while EB only gave me a buck :(. That would have been another 1.50 or so of profit...oh well)

The POX list for PS2 says ATV Offroad Fury. But it doesn't say ATV Offroad Fury 2, you know, the one that comes for free with PS2s now. Does that mean I can trade that in for one of the two games towards Burnout 3?

Or, I suppose I could trade it in with some other games as part of the trade in 3/4/5 deal since that only excludes demo discs.

Just so I understand each deal completely:
With the first deal, you get a GRAND TOTAL of $30 for the three games? So if this is the case, I guess it's the best way to unload your low-value games (which would normally fetch you much less that $10 individually).

And then the second deal gives you the specified amount IN ADDITION TO the normal trade amount? So if you have games with a high trade in value (worth more than $10 each), you will get a lot more out of this deal.

Am I getting this right?

BUT.. the trade 5/extra $20 has no exclusions, so crap like NFL QB Club can be traded in with 2 other games to get you 3.33+value of crappy game. The 3 for 30 off preorder is only for non-excluded games (which may be worth a lot more on ebay, the boards here, etc.)

Interesting time today trying to get the 2 for $20 Burnout 3 preorder deal.

The games: MechAssault, MGS2: Substance (xbox), ATV Offroad Fury 2.

Clerk A first tells me that none of the games are excluded. I tell him I'll keep MechAssault since you only need to trade in 2 games.

Clerk A says the deal isn't coming up in the computer, and says I either am thinking of the wrong game (yeah right) or it's an online only deal (can you even trade games in online?).

I print out the web page and take it back later. Clerk B and Clerk C are now working. Clerk C scans the games, still nothing in the computer. He's perplexed when I show him thr printout. Clerk B insists it's because "greatest hits games don't count". This is obviously wrong for several reasons and even Clerk C tells Clerk B this.

Clerk C tries calling other stores to get a manager. No such luck. He tells me to try back tomorrow when their manager is in and either maybe the point of sale will be updated to include this deal, or he could just manually give me the deal (he said he would have done this today but he couldn't get a hold of a manager).

side note--an employee came in to get his copy of ESPN NHL 2k5, and paid $18.18 after tax. I guess he must really have wanted to play it badly, because it will be at Best Buy tomorrow for $16.04.

To clarify: EB gives $25 for the Zelda disc, and I'd get $20 extra if I traded in four other games using the deal. So in the end I would get it's $25 + $20 + $value of other 4 games. Sorry for the confusion.

Cool... if my store does this I may unload a Zelda Collectors' Disc. Those aren't fetching nearly as much on Ebay as they used to. I think people are catching on to the fact that GameStop only sells them for $30. If I can think of four other games to trade, I'll get $45 for Zelda, plus whatever the remaining four trade in for, which is QUITE good.

EB gives you $45 for the Zelda Collector's Edition?
To clarify: EB gives $25 for the Zelda disc, and I'd get $20 extra if I traded in four other games using the deal. So in the end I would get it's $25 + $20 + $value of other 4 games. Sorry for the confusion.

AH...gotcha. I was going to say $45 seemed like a lot!

Well yet another set of employees put the kibosh on the special advertised on the website. So I did the trade 3 get $30 for Halo 2, seeing as how my games were worth $9 by themselves and $19 with the promotion.

If I go there on Tuesday and tell them I changed my mind and don't want Halo 2 anymore, will they give me the $30 credit to put towards Burnout 3 or my GTA:SA pre-order? Or do I have to wait until Halo 2 comes out, buy it, and then return it?

yes, yes, and yes. you can always change your pre-order, many clerks have told me this. if you're worried about it, do it over the phone so that they have no memory of you coming in. it works EVERY time.

All EBgames that I know of should be doing this sale, but there has been some reports of SOME Ebgames not doing it.

It's two seperate deals.

VOM stands for "Vender of the month"

Bullshit. Just traded in 2 yesterday for good money from them(Spidey2 and Fight Night got me 47).

Try again. The 'no cash or credit' is for those doing the trade in deal. It's there so you can't trade in 5 cruddy games and walk out with an extra Andrew Jackson.

You can still trade in normally.

No way i picked up some PS2 madden 2001-2003 for 1.99 each, the deal says 3 titles cant be same titles...so I did 3 different titles and 2 dupes and used my gamers edge card....so I paid 9 bucks then traded in the 5 used games and got $20 bucks so I made 11 bucks on the trade in any game including POX titles deal...muhahah...then on the HALO2 deal... If you find AGGRESSIVE INLINE for PS2 for 5.99 I grabbed 3 of those paid 18 bucks then traded in for the halo2 deal and made 30 back so a profit of 12 there...so I waled out with a total bonus of 23 bucks.....it was great...muahhaha

General question here... what type of things will EB "penalize" you for when trading in games? All the games I want to trade have the box and manuals. But a few have old GameStop price stickers on them... will stickers (or sticker residue) get me less trade-in money, or will it be the same as long as the materials are generally in fine condition? I'll go out of my way to take the stickers off all carefully if I have to, but if it won't make a difference I'll just leave them there.

I got them to take Madden 2002 for the GC. I got $4 for it ($.25 +$3.75) I also got $10.75 for Medal of Honor Frontline which is double what I paid for it at CC. All in all Id say this would be as good of a deal as you'll get on old sports titles. I could have done better if I had taken another one of my old sports games (the bonus would have been $5 instead of $3.75) but Im still playing the ones I have.

So after trading in 14 games that I either got for $5 at the CC or BB sales, or have had for a while and we're being played ever (NBA 2K2, anyone?), I now have $200 worth of pre-orders down on five different games (Fable, Halo 2, Burnout 3, GTA:SA, Katamari Damacy).

One tip I have, and I'm not sure if it's been mentioned here before, comes from the manager of my EB himself. As you well know, you can't use the "more you trade the more you make" deal on pre-orders; you have to purchase something right then and there. However, if you buy, say, a 10-cent mylar plastic card sleeve, you can use all the remaining credit towards whatever you want (i.e. pre-orders). Between that and switching pre-orders a day later, I was able to get the exact deals I wanted. I guess it's easier when the employees are trying to help you find the deals/exploit loopholes, but I would suggest trying them at your local store if you have any interest in fully taking advantage of these current trade-in deals.

That wasn't true in my case. I traded in four games, all the credit of which went to the preorder of DDR Extreme. I didn't have to buy anything there. This is probably a YMMV thing.

Also, I managed to get $20.75 credit for four games. I don't know how, but that was cool. Three of the games are on the exclusion list too.

Just got back from my local EB store... I ended up getting Fable and Halo2.... I started with the Halo2 deal and got the limited edition... Funny thing is the guy had no clue about this deal.. he told me I had to do it online... so I busted out my printed copy and had to show him... but all was good after that..

I then proceded to get my 5 games for the extra $20 deal.. and I simply asked if I could put that on Fable.. (which is still on preorder..) and then pay it off right then... he had no problem with that....

So im thinking you can put this on preorder games.. but you may have to pay off the game in whole... I dunno.. I got 2 games for about $50 total..

so im happy..

oh.. I traded in Splinter Cell, NHL Hitz 2k, NBA Live 2k, Madden 2k, Nba 2k3 for a total of $30 trade in..

not bad considering you normally get .50 for sports titles....

Some things I've noticed:

--Every EB I've checked in Long Island has the "Trade 5 for 20 extra" deal. So if you're in the area, go for it.

--A point of interest is that the sign for the promotion states that you must have three distinct games. So technically, I think you could have three copies of the same game, and then two other games and it would still work.

--The first EB I went to was aware of the promotion, but it didn't seem to be in the computer. The employees were stumped for a while and they finally just did everything manually in the computer. At another EB (which was in a mall), everything showed up right away in the computer with no hassle at all. I actually broke the rules on that one (three copies of Zelda Collectors and Wipeout Fusion--only two distinct games) and one employee told me it probably wouldn't work. But the promotion still showed up and I got $15 extra. So the "no same titles" thing isn't actually in the computer; it's up to the individual employees to enforce it.

I really goofed, I traded in SIX games without even realizing it. I was so caught up in the transaction that I forgot to take back Jet Set Radio Future. I just looked at the receipt today and it finally hit me. The plan was to buy JSRF right back from a nearby GameStop, after trading it in as my fifth game. But oh well, no biggie. I still ended up getting MK6 Kollector's Edition (preorder) and a friggin' Xbox for just $80 after my trade-ins, so I'm quite happy with the whole deal.

Oh and the first EB I went to had no problem with me just doing a pre-order with all the trade-in credit. I didn't have to buy anything in stock. But then again that EB didn't have the promotion in the computer (they had the signs up though, so they just did everything manually), so I may have just been lucky with that.

Could someone explain something to me? Yesterday I did the deal where you trade in any five games and you get $20 extra added on to the value of what you traded.

What I'm confused about is this deal where you trade in three "select" games and you get $30 off of Halo. That seems like a MUCH better deal than trading in five and getting $20 extra. But what are the select titles? I saw some people link to this page at EBgames.com (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/ads/shops/instoretradein/exclusions.asp). Is that a list of games that are excluded from that Halo 2 deal? And while I'm at it, does that include all those deals at EB? Like, is it a universal list for all of the deals?

Robotech PS2
WWE Wrestlemania XIX GC
Pacman Fever PS2
NFL GameDay 2004 PS2
Beach Spikers GC
Zelda Collectors Edition GC
Rally Fusion PS2
Parappa the Rapper 2 PS2
Virtua Fighter 4 PS2
Spy Hunter 2 PS2

That gave me a total of $75.75, which I put $52 (after tax) down on Donkey Konga and bought myself a copy of The Suffering with the remaining money. Also grabbed a copy of Manhunt using a gift certificate I had.

Of course, I did have to buy a 0.49 copy of some shitty movie reviews CD for PC. They were laughing at how pathetic it was, so I told them to keep it.

Considering I never really played any of those games, and they all came from the $5 CC or BB sales (aside from Zelda, which I got for free), I'd say I did pretty decent. I'm satisfied. :)

I very rarely trade in games, but I made an exception for this deal and came away happy. Traded in 8 games received $79 credit including the bonus cash. Had to buy a $5 sub to a pre own thingie so the bonus's could be applied and so I use the rest on pre-orders(Couldn't find anything cheaper, at least this might be used in the future). Pre-ordered Shadow Hearts 2 and Katamari Damacy, and put the rest that was left on my Halo 2 SE pre-order. That last part was the best part, for some reason when she applied that, I got an extra $17 dollar credit from some other promotion that was suppose to end on Sunday apparently. So $96 for 8 games, which isn't to bad when I probably should have never purchased a few of those games in the first place.

Just for clarification...because some of you seem a little confused and no wonder, given the mixed reactions of your local EB employees. Every single EB should be doing this. Every single one. If they don't know about it, make them (nicely) trade in your stuff, ring something up, doesn't matter what and (very important) HIT TOTAL. Just say "F12". If they don't know what that key does, then they have problems.

The "more you trade the more you're paid" deal applies to trade-ins of complete (game, box, instructions, art) PS2, Gamecube and XBox games. No duplicates within the same transaction. No exceptions. Not even that Madden 2001 for the PS2. In plain English: all POX titles will work for this particular promotion. You do need to buy something in order to get the bonus.

Trade in 3 Games=$10 EXTRA
Trade in 4 Games=$15 EXTRA
Trade in 5 Games=$20 EXTRA

You cannot however trade in 10 games and get $40. So just do a separate transaction and you're good to go.

Once both the trade ins and the purchases are in the computer the computer will automatically bump up the trade in values. You can see it for yourself on the receipt.

You cannot do this deal for cash, you cannot buy a gift certificate. Also found out today that it had been changed not to work for pre-orders, sorry.

Oh, and be nice to your EB salesperson. It's not his/her fault if s/he's ignorant. It's their manager's.

So there's a trade in 5 get one free now? Any game can be traded in and any game can be selected as the free game?

It's actually trade in 2, 3, 4, or 5 games to get $20, $30, $40, or $50 towards the purchase of select games. The select games are:

Silent Hill 4 The Room
Def Jam fight for NY
Star wars Battlefront
Gran Turismo 4
GTA San Andreas
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005
WWF Day of Reckoning
Halo 2
THUG 2

The exclusion list applies and games must have box and manual. masha was lucky enough to have an EB that let him choose any game.

If I understand it correctly, the $30 you get off halo is ALL you get, period. Not the value of your games + 30. So in other words, if it's not excluded, you get $10 each game. Pretty standard.

hey guys i have a question. i just got back from EB and I traded in 4 ps2 games and 1 xbox game, and the guy said all 5 have to be for the same system and he only gave me an extra $15. Is this how it works or did I get screwed?

What exactly do you mean by a "separate transaction" here? I'm looking to trade in 15-20 games when I take advantage of this deal, and I want to get $20 for every 5 I trade in, not just $20 extra for all the 15.

Gojtron
09-23-2004, 12:17 AM
Zman, it means you do 5 games per transaction, recieve an extra 20 per transaction. Check as many as possible against the exclusiion list and put down preorders for things like GT4 to get the $10 per game and then move it over later.

I need some help. I did the halo 2 deal and I want to switch the pre-order to buy a Def Jam Fight For NY. Is that possible? To use the money put down for Halo 2 for Def Jam? Also I picked up the last copy of Katamari. Life is awesome.

I went to EB to trade in the following Xbox games:

Outlaw Golf
Azurik: Rise of Perathia
Crazy Taxi 3
Midtown Madness 3 (I found boring, quickly)
Cel Damage

I got $31 for them, and then I picked up two PS2 games:
Mega Man X: Command Mission
Katamari Damacy (my preorder pickup)

I am thinking about taking advantage of this deal. I was wondering if anyone would know how much I could get for this list of games including the bonus $20 for every five games.

NBA 2k3 (PS2)
ESPN Football 2k4 (XBOX)
NBA Street 2 (PS2)
World Series 2k3 (PS2)
World Series 2k3 (XBOX)
NBA Live 2004 (XBOX)
Madden 2003 (PS2)
MLB 2004 (PS2)
MLB 2005 (PS2)
All-Star Baseball 2005 (XBOX)
ESPN College Hoops (XBOX)
Home Run King (GC)
High Heat MLB 2004 (PS2)
Mega Man Anniversary Collection (GC)
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GC)

If this EB Games deal is not the best thing to do, what would be. I have no Game Rush stores here or Media Plays.

I'd check with a Gamecrazy or FYE/Coconuts if you have one near you. While they aren't running promos like the $20 extra thing, they will likely give you more for all those games. I do know that EB will give you jack crap for the sports games, and buy that I mean likely less than $1-2 or so.

Strider Turbulence
09-25-2004, 09:35 PM
EB will give you about 25 cents for some of thos sports games. I have to agree with Duo Maxwell, Gamecrazy or FYE will hook you up with better credit.

I think ESPN College Hoops and ESPN football still carries a $17 value at FYE. NBA Live 2004 might also still have a $20-something credit value but hurry up because it will drop once Live 2005 comes out.

Turok
NHL 2001
Madden 2002
Smackdown: Shut your mouth
Project Gotham Racing (it was scratched up really bad, big gouge, they took it)

I think I might trade in the following tomorrow

Mark of Kri
Arc the Lad
Silent Hill 3
Kill.Switch (ps2)
SegaGT/JSRF Combo

hopefully I can get a decent amount. I know the combo pack and mark of kri is pretty much worthless to EB though.

FaintDeftone

I am not trading anything at EB anymore from now on. I traded in those 5 games and I got ripped off badly. I can understand Mark of Kri and SegaGT/JSRF being extremely low, but damn man, I got only 31 dollars out of ALL of that stuff, and thats including the 20 bucks since I traded in 5. I got 11 dollars for those five games. Kill.Switch is still 30 bucks and I only got 4 dollars for it! EB's trade in values are horrible, they are ripping you off left and right. Whats up with Arc the Lad? That game sells new 30 bucks and 20 bucks used, and they gave me a buck for it. Thats bullshit.

I didn't play any of them anyways so I took the trade in and picked up .Hack 1, Red Faction 1, and ATV Offroad 2 (which blows). That will be the last trade in transaction I do there from now on.

Hello! I'm kinda new so i'm sorry if this sounds repeated or dumb but I just want to make sure before I go:
Trade 3 games in and recieve a extra $10 to total
Trade 4 games in and recieve a extra $15 to total
Trade 5 games in and recieve a extra $20 to total

So I can take any 3 (or4or5) games and even if theyre sports games that are worth.25 they will add 10 (or15or20) to the total?
Thanks!

There are no exceptions. So yes, now is the time to dump sports titles that otherwise pay close to jack. The deal ends on Saturday (end of business on Saturday) and you must buy something in the same transaction to get your bonus credit.

Used this lovely deal a few weeks ago to get Fable.

Today I traded in Fable, Onimusha 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Animal Crossing and Kingdom Hearts.

Then I bought Sly 2, even finding -- after I handed it to them -- that they had marked a case the wrong price ($29.99 instead of $39.99). I usually let these things slide and don't screw them over... but the woman in charge was really rude about it so I never opened my mouth, accepting the $10 off.

Had enough left over to almost completely pay for a GTA: SA preorder.

Anyway, thanks for the deal post.

I called two of the EBs in my area and both of the guys I talk to said no exclusions (got their names just in case). I'm taking tomorrow off and going to give that nasty little girl that works at EB a coronary.
Trading in:
PS2 and 5 shitty games for credit to get a new PSTwo -$150.
Gamecube and 5 shitty games to get the $100.
GBA and 5 shitty games to get the $50.
DC and 5 shitty games to get the $30.
2 N64s and 10 shitty games to get the $60.
2 sets of Cubes and Gbas to get credit for new PSTwos for my kids - $300.
Subtotal: $690.

I also have about 10 other DC games, 10 other PS2 games, 8 Xbox games, and 10 GC games to trade in.

That little witch is going to drop a load when she sees what I have to trade in tomorrow. I already get a "I smell shit" look from her when I trade in a grocery sack worth of stuff.

Sorry I posted this in the wrong thread - my bad.
I talked to the guy at EB, and he said I could put any or all of the amount of the credit on my Edge card.
$300 gets saved to get the kids their PSTwos, and I'll need one also.
The way I figure it, I'll be sitting on $300+ or so. I'll definitely pick up Katamari Damacy for the PS2 and Star Wars Battlefront for Xbox, but I'm not sure what else will catch my eye. :D

What's the BOGO deal, I missed that? I thought gamestop had that.
Anyway, I traded in 12 games and got about 80 bucks credit, including 3x15 bonus [instead of 2x20]. Obviously without the bonus credit I would have laughed and walked away, because their tradein values do suck. But they were games I wasn't playing/didn't like, and haven't moved on Half.com, and games that I bought over six months for a total of 101.00, so that's not too bad.
Bought Katamari Damacy and preordered Nocturne in full, and have a couple bucks left on a gift card.
