Thanks to D. Monic for pointing this out in his post in the deals thread. I figured I'd start a discussion of this game here. Be sure to check out the video preview review at the link below. I think it looks fantastic, and gets the idea of a workout game right - it's a *GAME* that that happens to get you a good workout (similar to DDR, but this has the advantage of incorporating hand/arm motions too in a greater way then DDR Hottest Party, and has more variety):

This will definitely be on my list of games to get for our kids (uh, yeah right) when they get a Wii this xmas.

If I'm not mistaken, this game has been pointed out before on this forum. From what I've read from other sources besides this guy, the responsiveness of the mat isn't so hot.

I agree. I saw a video for it on Amazon's main video game page and it looks fantastic. I would be way more apt to get this than I would Wii Fit, plus its cheaper.

If it wasn't yet ANOTHER accessory, I might actually be excited.

I don't feel like watching the video again. Is that mat a DDR-like mat, or is it game-specific?

It's the NES Powerpad mat. And I remember the other thread about this too but am too lazy to find it.
From what I read and saw on that site, it looks like you can get a better workout just from playing DDR on hard/expert. He brags about "firmer legs", but from watching him play, it's obvious he would barely be able to pass light mode on DDR, so I doubt he has ever played any sort of dance game in his life.

Way better than WiiFit? Sorry, those DS quality graphics and choppy animation aren't even saved by the use of Miis in the game. You can't have actually played WiiFit to make this analysis. It may itself be an amusing game, but after playing the skiing and snowboarding minigames on WiiFit and seeing the similar game on Family Trainer, I think I can safely say that there is no way this game can compete with the control scheme of WiiFit.
WiiFit is mainly about balance and strengthening you muscles to control your center of gravity. Almost all the excercises measure how well you can control that center which can't be duplicated by button pressing with your feet. I'm not saying either game is better or worse, just completely different. This modified dance mat would be really awesome with a remake of the classic Track & Field arcade game and NES release. Hell, I'd buy it tomorrow if they packaged it like that. But as far as continuing entertainment value, I can't say I'd be playing Family trainer more than a day or two, whereas WiiFit still gets played almost every other day in my house.

It's $52 shipped from eStarland. Even though it says "ships in 1 or 2 days," don't believe it. They'll get it when everyone else does on Sept. 9th.
