I'm looking for a good 360 headset, either a headset for cheap, OR just the best ones on the market.

I noticed the little female port for the headset looks just like the female port for a cell phone, will a hands free cellphone headset work for the 360?

Are the Microsoft brand headsets that come with the 360 good or is there a better brand?

yep, any 2.5mm headset works, but it needs to have a built in volume & mute. I've broken 2-3 headsets by turning mute on and off over a period of time.

I said fuck MS this time around and bought a new/sealed AT&T 2.5mm version off Ebay for $7-8 shipped. It's working great and it has volume/mute, plus a padded ear piece which I hate the foam covered MS 1st party ear cover. the plug stays firmly in the controller aswell.

It's more expensive bid wise than what i payed for them. I found a the same set with no bids during the week for 2.75 + 5.95 shipping. Someone could probably find a good quality cell phone brand for $15-20 shipped but just make sure it's 2.5mm with volume & mute.

Ebay has cheaper 3rd party 360 mics for 6-7 and another for $12-13 but they require a Paypal accounts or payment via cc since their from hongkong.

The 360 ones are easy to repair if the mute button breaks. Unscrew the two back screws and look for a little gold box under the mute switch. On the gold box is a little black switch. All the mute button does is hit the black switch so just hit the switch manually

yeah, i did that with all of mine. I took them apart and used a bread tie to hold it together and switched the mute on and off that way but eventually the mic crapped out. All of my mute switch broke first & then they started echoing really bad to the point were it couldn't be used.
