Do anyone know what's in the 4 discs edition of RE:Afterlife (BB exclusive)?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Resident+Evil%3A+Afterlife+4pk+%28Best+Buy+Exclusi ve%29+-+Blu-ray+Disc/1669094.p?skuId=1669094&id=2173735
Does it come with a 3D Blu-ray of the movie?

Been a while since I have posted in here.. havent kept up lately as much with BD.
Do the 3d versions of movies also come with the regular 2d version? I don't have a 3d tv yet but I want to make sure that if I pick up the 3d version, I can watch the 2d version just fine.

Lists in the description that it'll supposedly play in 2D with a 2D TV, so i guess it's a 2D/3D disc. Not all 3D discs are playable in 2D, so you need to check and see before buying.
I missed the DD Shrek The Whole Story deal. :( But it's in my Gold Box for amazon today for $36--decent price, or do people think it'll go sub-$30 like Austin Powers did (and that one was only 3 movies)?

Shrek will drop...it's just a matter of how long you want to wait. $36 is good. I paid $33 through DD with tax.
Thanks for the reply Gizmo.

Princess Bride: does anyone know the difference between this (http://www.amazon.com/Princess-Bride-Two-Disc-Blu-ray-Packaging/dp/B000K7VHPA/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1294301254&sr=1-1), released last year, and this (http://www.amazon.com/Princess-Bride-Blu-ray-Cary-Elwes/dp/B0049M7BES/ref=sr_1_3?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1294301254&sr=1-3), which apparently came out this week? It looks like the older one is a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, but I'm wondering if anything else is different.

Other than the extra DVD and the price, nothing. The original BR release was quite good for a catalog title, and I can't imagine how (or why) they'd release something better, so I'd say go for the 2 disc because it's a buck less.

Pre-order Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray Now!
January 6, 2011
The most anticipated Blu-ray release ever -- the Star Wars Saga -- emerges from light speed this September 2011. For the first time, all six of George Lucas' epic films (Episodes I-VI) are united in one complete set. Fans worldwide are able to pre-order now with online retailers.
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Star Wars in three distinct sets to meet the needs of every Star Wars fan:
* Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray (9-disc Set includes all six films)
* Star Wars: Prequel Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes I-III)
* Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI)
Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray will feature all six live-action Star Wars feature films utilizing the highest possible picture and audio presentation, along with three additional discs and more than 30 hours of extensive special features including never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes, an exploration of the exclusive Star Wars archives, and much more.
Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray will be available for $139.99 US/$179.99 CAN and the Star Wars: Trilogy Sets for $69.99 US/89.99 CAN. Pricing for each set will vary by international territory.
Flanked by a legion of his finest Imperial stormtroopers, Darth Vader himself joined Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment President Mike Dunn at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to announce the release, vowing "The forces of the Empire will be at your disposal to assure the success of this endeavor."
"The Star Wars Saga is the most anticipated Blu-ray collection since the launch of the high-def format," Dunn said. "The epic franchise pioneered sound and visual presentation in theaters and is perfectly suited to do it again in the home, with a viewing experience only possible with Blu-ray."
"With all six episodes available for the first time in one collection, this is a great way for families and home audiences to experience the complete Saga from start to finish," said Doug Yates, Vice President of Marketing, Online, Distribution, Lucasfilm Ltd. "And with the quality of high-definition, Blu-ray provides the most immersive home experience possible."
"The Star Wars franchise has been the most anticipated Blu-ray release by Amazon's customers," said Bill Carr, Vice President of Music and Video at Amazon.com. "We think that Star Wars will be incredibly popular with our customers, and we expect pre-orders to be very strong."

Worth locking in the prices now in case they go up, which Amazon has done before.
Or it could drop like a rock in a couple weeks or sooner after release. >_>

Or it could drop like a rock in a couple weeks or sooner. >_>If the price drops, you're covered with the pre-order price guarantee, since you can always go back and have Amazon adjust the price for a cheaper price. Plus, you could cancel and re-order as well.
This just covers you against getting it for more than $90.
Sorry I meant after release--getting burned a lot more often recently with preorders that drop after release on Amazon. :p

So let me get this straight Fox wants $90 ($140 list) for 4 Aliens movies (2 of which are pretty much stinkers) and the same $90 (same $140 list) buys all 6 Star Wars films (once again 2 stinkers though...)?
Way to keep it consistent Fox.

Sorry I meant after release--getting burned a lot more often recently with preorders that drop after release on Amazon. :pAs long as you decide to cancel within a few days of release, you won't be out anything. I'm sure they will get Release Date Delivery, which means they'll ship the Friday or Monday before they come out. Plenty of time to cancel if someone else has a better deal before release.
Right after release, that's always a crapshoot.

Way to keep it consistent Fox.Aliens set is 50% crap, and the Star Wars set is 33% crap? The percentages are dropping, at least.
Aliens set has been about $70 at retail before any coupons come into play, though the cheapest the US release has been is about $53 at BN.com after a 25% off coupon that only works via a MasterCard. UK release of Aliens set has been right at $40 shipped at the cheapest point, though it's higher now.

First, forgot to mention that the 2 worst Star Wars are still better than the 2 worst Aliens (and this is coming from someone who is a bigger Aliens fan than Star Wars).
I understand there have been the sales and there will likely be sales on the Star Wars sets as well. I'm merely highlighting that Fox is somehow valuing 4 Aliens films the same as all 6 Star Wars films which is just silly. Even more silly is the fact that given how much control Lucas has over Star Wars they are likely not even getting as much percentage of the sales of Star Wars as they are with Aliens (a franchise they've owned and controlled from the beginning).
They will sell more Star Wars sets than Aliens sets regardless--it's a wash.

I know that from a revenue perspective, the Star Wars movies far outstripped the Alien movies, no question. It's been pretty much universal that people think Fox's price on the Alien series set in the US was much more expensive than it should have been, which is why a lot of people (myself included) imported it from the UK. I'm happy with $12-$15 per movie for Aliens and the same for Star Wars, though there's no way to believe that the Aliens movies are worth more than $20 each, especially with the last two being such dogs. I bet you if they came out with an Alien + Aliens double-pack at $30 - $40, it would sell like crazy.

$10 coupons for Disney titles usually come from the upgrade from past versions, by putting in the UPC of an appropriate product to upgrade from (DVD, VHS) into the DisneyMovieRewards.com website. Shows you own the prior title and you get the coupon for the upgrade.
All it needs is the UPC, which can be found on the Internet, obviously.

I want those Hot Fuzz and SotD SBs.
While I'm not a huge fan of the movie (and much less of a fan of Rosario Dawson) that Sin City SB is awesome. Just . . . damn.
I really don't like it when the SB are just a moderate rehash or variation of the original cover/movie poster, IDK why they do those like that.

I read over at Blu-Ray.com that they changed the aspect ratio (from 1:85 to 1:78)and that some parts of the UK release actually look better. I think I am going to stick with the copy I got. I was hoping for a nice new transfer, but I will stick with what I got. I like how the case matches the poster I have hanging in my room anyway.

The original DVD of the first film is NON ANAMORPHIC. This Blu-Ray could be completely mediocre and it would still be worth the purchase as long as you're interested in owning the movie.
I'm buying the game anyway so the costume download that you get is a nice bonus. Really surprised each film doesn't have a different character, looks like Jade is the download for both films.

Hey which is the Dragon Ball Z set that people are supposed to avoid? I was curious about the first DBZ Kai since it's on sale at Amazon. I know that's an abridged/remastered version, but I recall some offhand remark in a different thread about how you should avoid the ____ DBZ set and get ___ instead. For all I know that remark may have been directed towards the DVDs though.

Hey guys I'm about to buy my first Blu-ray player, the Samsung BD-C5500 (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BD-C5500-1080p-Blu-ray-Player/dp/B000B60H0G/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1300568263&sr=1-2), because it's pretty cheap and I was just wondering if anyone had any warnings about this particular one. I've read a lot of reviews and most of the things people list as cons don't really bother me. Let me know and thanks! I'd read through this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1235612)if you haven't already.

Looks like we're getting a complete series set for Stargate Atlantis on July 26th:
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Disc_Announcements/MGM/UA/Stargate_Atlantis:_The_Complete_Series_Announced_f or_Blu-ray/6714
MSRP is $200, so it'll be pricey. I'm hoping that we don't repeat the SG-1 Complete Series set packaging debacle with this one. Also wondering how it'll look on BD, since I think they shot it on HD Video though some of the series, if not all of it. In that case, I'd like to think it would look good to very good.
That one is worth waiting out to read reviews before sinking money into it.

But it was a Stargate!
I agree though, my DVDs came right out of that box and never went back in, but to its credit it does look fantastic on a shelf.
As for Atlantis, I already own all the individual seasons on DVD, so I'd probably wait on a pretty big sale (and of course the reviews) before upgrading to the blu.

I never had any DBZ discs before Kai, but I have all 4 (or is it 3?) blu ray sets that have been released so far, and I think they're quite good all things considered. It's waaaaaay better than the original DBZ in my opinion.

It's the Orange DVD sets some people say to avoid. They're cropped strangely and apparently the "remastering" messed up some of the colors. I have those sets, and I would never notice a difference. But if you want what is generally considered the best DBZ, go with the Dragon Box DVD's if you want the original unabridged show, or the Kai DVD's or Blu-rays if you want the filler cut out. The Kai sets are also the only version of DBZ on blu-ray, the movies not withstanding.

1 1/2 and 2 won't get stand alone releases for a while, at least according to someone I spoke to. Defeats the whole purpose of selling this gigantic boxset. Probably, eventually. Disney is weird with their releases. You can probably import both around October since Dinsey treats each territory differently (i.e. Bambi II is out in the UK already...along with Dumbo).
I pre-ordered the big boxset for $67 on Amazon. I may or may not keep it. Already getting the 3D copy for review, so not sure if $67 is worth it for two DTV Sequels.

I have it, it plays fine on my PS3. I'm almost entirely certain they're nearly the same disks between the US and UK versions. I got mine the last time it got really cheap (like ~$26 shipped cheap) and was very pleased with the purchase. The only downside is that each movie comes in its own case and they're fairly thick cases so if you're concerned about shelf space then you might want to look to the considerably slimmer US version.

Nightmare Before Christmas 3D (3D BD + 2D DB + DVD + DC) is dated for release on August 30th.
Up for pre-order on Amazon at $34.99, retails for $49.99:
http://www.amazon.com/Nightmare-Before-Christmas-3D-Blu-ray/dp/B00540G3G6
No sign of a Disney coupon yet, though we should keep an eye on this and see.

The BD + DC version trades in for up to $7.60 at Amazon, if you already have it.
This release would be a 3-disc (3D BD / 2D BD / DVD + DC or 3D BD / 2D BD / DVD / online on DMR.com website for DC) or 4-disc (3D BD / 2D BD / DVD / DC) release, so there's nothing stopping you from picking it up now or later and selling/trading your existing version.
There may be a trade-up/upgrade coupon coming from Disney or a non-upgrade coupon as well, though we have some time before such a thing gets released. Amazon normally releases their coupon on these types of releases very early in the pre-order cycle, so it would be worth keeping an eye out for them. In the case of Tangled, the 3D combo pack had a $8 coupon on Amazon ($5 B&M coupon, so a better coupon deal) as well as a price match to the cheaper price at Target of $24.99, so it was a win-win.
Yeah, that Tangled coupon was great.

Looks like we have a 15-disc "Treasure Chest" edition of the four POTC movies, retailing at $114.99, with a MSRP of $169.99:
http://www.amazon.com/Pirates-of-the-Caribbean-Blu-ray/dp/product/B0054K8JSG
Not sure what's in the 15 discs, though the first three movies are 3-discs each as 2 BD discs and one DVD disc, for 9 discs, and the separate POTC: OST release (over here with $8 off coupon on Amazon (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=296722)) has 5 discs, so we're up to 14. Maybe the 7th disc from the POTC trilogy pack is included for the 15th disc.

Does anyone know what is up with Louie S1 BD/DVD?..first off, it was shelved early at a Fry's I stopped by on Saturday. Of course they didn't sell it to me, but what I found interesting was while it was both formats, the copy in my hand was DVD case sized. Now, at Fry's it is $19.99 this week, stellar deal compared to checking BB.com at $34.99 (!!!) and Amazon for $30..
Now what perplexes me, and this references the question above, is I just searched it out on Frys.com and there are two listings stating DVD/BD and another BD/DVD..so I guess I'm wondering if there is only one set of this, or if there should be BD sized packaging?? Not that it matters since I lumped all my TV seasons together on the shelf (which doesn't look that good) but it would still be nice to know if I need to hunt a BD sized box out..

not really a deal but Justice League Season 2 Bluray came out the end of july under the radar to like no fanfare. I got my copy yesterday and watched a couple episodes, extras are pretty much same as on dvds, little annoying because they list the extras on both discs and if you have the wrong disc it just tells you to insert other disc, bit annoying. BD live is little cool, does have new Dark Knight Rises trailer available for play.
My god, the actual shows though, just awesome. Colors pop, detail, anamorphic widescreen, just, I teared up a bit. Miles ahead of the JL season one set and just makes me salivate for a JLU bluray set seeing what they can do now. Any fans of JL animated this is a must buy, was watching Twilight and it was just so beautiful, scene with all father in front of the source wall and the fire just danced on the screen in glorious HD just so beautiful. Haven't even got to the Justice Lords episode yet but can't wait.

If you're really willing to open your bank account for the ultimate format, buy a film print and a projector. Better quality, and unbastardized cuts.

$40. Maybe.
I flipped one a year ago (when Anthem still had the rights) for $100ish, but now, Gary is pressing his own and has done so on HD DVD and Blu-ray. You'll be lucky to get back what you paid for it.

After reading about all the changes and tweaks I cancelled my preorder. Lucas is terrible. If you told me 15 years ago I'd eventually grow hate the Star Wars saga, I'd said you were nuts. Now I think it's teetering on garbage.
Han shot first for life. I'm sure uncle Owen's corpse will get edited out in the 3D release.
Glad I have my LD of the original trilogy; If 480p is the best picture one can get for an untainted print then so be it.

Speaking of taints, that's probably where Lucas rubs the original print, just out of spite.

I realize I'm probably a little late to the party, but Louie S1 Blu (http://www.foxconnect.com/louie-the-complete-first-season-blu-ray-widescreen.html) is $14.99 on the FoxConnect website. If you sign up for their mailing list you can also get a 10% off + free shipping code, although I have been having trouble getting it to work correctly (going to call customer service tomorrow).
As a side note, their search function is usually either broken, or terrible, or both, so keep that in mind if you are trying to find something (e.g. no results for wallstreet, only wall street).

starting to build a blu ray collection with this barnes and noble sale going on. What else do you think I should add to this?
Goldfinger
Baraka
Bladerunner
Heat
Up
Toy Story 3
John Adams
Modern Family
No horror, but other than that, anything that would be spectacular to watch in a home theater

Yeah, not worth much. Anthem was actually shipping them at here in my town so I was able to grab a few pretty cheap. I doubt they actually sold all 500 though. It'll probably be worth something in the future...but right now, not much.

Word going around is that Transformers: Dark of the Moon will hit blu this month, September 30th.. but the catch is - it's only a barebones release. Movie only. The 3d version and version w/ extras will be released in December, then a trilogy set w/ fancy stuff later on.
I think I'll pick up the barebones release. I wouldn't watch the extras on it anyway.

I have zero emoitional attachment to the Star Wars films. I couldn't care less about any of the changes to them made thus far. I don't think the prequels are particularly bad or good. I'm glad to watch all 6 films but I'm not even close to being a purist.
But with that said - that hilarious "NOOOO" they added makes me embarassed watching it...on Youtube...by myself. I ain't got much time to decide now, but I really am thinking strongly about cancelling my preorder for the set. At this point I don't buy that Lucas isn't just trolling everybody for his own amusement.

anyone else have "Waiting" on BD and think the PQ sucks? the colors look super-enhanced and there is no detail to anything in the background. I checked a few review sites and they gave it 3 - 3.5 out of 5. I almost wanna pull out the DVD and see if it's better, only cause the color levels were like burning my eyes out.

Yeah, I finally watched it and I gotta say, it really does come across as almost slapstick. I'm not one who gets too worked up over the changes (new Anakin in Jedi, Han shoots first, etc.) but this new "noooo" just feels completely out of place. It completely ruins one of the best scenes in the original trilogy.

Warner HMV is going to pull a Disney-style vault practice with all of the Harry Potter movies:
http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=7614
Deathly Hallows Pt 2 and the complete 8-film collection will be on the shelf from release date until the end of the year, and then they're gone until some time into 2012, plus the other 7 films.

Create demand then just release them a year from now again anyway, good strategy.

Seems like a short period between going in the vault and coming back out again, at least compared to Disney. It makes the whole thing look pretty silly in my opinion. It's not like demand would have really suffered much if they simply left them on the shelves, and re-released them later next year. All this does is piss off people who want to buy the movies, and benefit resellers who are likely buying up these movies all now to sell to these poor souls.

Indiana Jones collection with all four movies (yes, I know everyone's take on Crystal Skull), out this fall:
http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=8283
Let's hope Paramount does what we had with the Alien collection and make the movies individually for people that don't want Crystal Skull.
I also hope that the movies are remastered correctly and they look good on BD. No reason they couldn't look great on BD.
EDIT: Apparently up for pre-order on Amazon, no date, for $74.99:
http://www.amazon.com/Indiana-Jones-Blu-ray-Collection/dp/B000NQRE9Q/
Also, don't bother trading in the DVD sets to Amazon unless they're new and sealed, as they have a $0.25 trade-in value if not new and sealed.

I don't remember if I asked this or not. If I buy the 3D version of the new Piranha 3D movie, will it still play in 2D effectively?
I only have one 3D TV and I'm pretty sure I won't be watching it there very often, but I'd love to at least once. The rest of the time, it'd be viewed on my non-3D TV with probably a non-3D blu-ray player.
Hopefully it makes sense.

From the Amazon discussion, 2D is included on the disc and is the default.

I recently heard that some of the Studio Ghibli films are finally being put on Blu-ray. Does anyone know which ones are currently available/what the future releases are going to be?
I know that Nausicaa and Ponyo have been around for a while and that Castle in the Sky's coming out next month, but I'd kill for some of the others (not that there's a single bad film in the bunch).

Oh, I've never heard of Whisper of the Heart. Should I be ashamed of that? Looks like it's yet another well-reviewed Miyazaki film, whatever the case. I knew about Arrietty, too, but I'm gonna hold out on that one 'till it drops a little bit. ;)

If you don't mind buying used, GoHastings has a 33% off sale right now and that makes the movies you've listed a bit cheaper than Amazon's prices (I think - haven't factored in the sales tax or shipping costs). Here's a link to the topic discussing it:

I'm not sure if everything GoHastings sells is complete, though. Sorry!
